RESUMO

Due to its properties, pervious concrete is usually considered a material of choice for permeable surfaces. However, its permeability properties, as well as mechanical performance, depend on its effective porosity. In this paper, the Authors investigated the influence of material and technological factors on the selected properties of pervious concrete. A new method, based on the Vebe consistency test method, was developed to assess the vibration time required to reach a designed effective porosity of pervious concrete. Five classes of pervious concrete's consistency measured by the modified vebe method were proposed, and the limiting values to determine optimum vibration time were indicated. A model of dependence between the porosity of pervious concrete, its consistency, and compaction time was proposed. It was found that for the assumed range of variability, compaction time and material composition significantly influence the porosity of pervious concrete, and, therefore, all properties of pervious concrete.

RESUMO

The generation of energy for the needs of the population is currently a problem. In consideration of that, the biomass combustion process has started to be implemented as a new source of energy. The dynamic increase in the use of biomass for energy generation also resulted in the formation of waste in the form of fly ash. This paper presents an efficient way to manage this troublesome material in the polymer-cement composites (PCC), which have investigated to a lesser extent. The research outlined in this article consists of the characterization of biomass fly ash (BFA) as well as PCC containing this waste. The characteristics of PCC with BFA after 3, 7, 14, and 28 days of curing were analyzed. Our main findings are that biomass fly ash is suitable as a mineral additive in polymer-cement composites. The most interesting result is that the addition of biomass fly ash did not affect the rheological properties of the polymer-cement mortars, but it especially influenced its compressive strength. Most importantly, our findings can help prevent this byproduct from being placed in landfills, prevent the mining of new raw materials, and promote the manufacture of durable building materials.

RESUMO

A monomer structure of a novel human insulin analog A22S-B3K-B31R (SK3R) has been characterized by NMR in water/acetonitrile solution and compared with the structure of human insulin (HIS) established in the same medium. The composition of the oligomer ensemble for neat insulins in water was qualitatively assessed by monitoring, derived from NMR experiment, translational diffusion coefficient Dix10-10m2s-1, whose value is a population averaged of individual coefficients for species in oligomeric ensemble. Nanospray ESI/MS experiment was used to establish the masses of oligomers in pharmaceutical formulation of the SK3R insulin. The pharmacodynamic data were established and compared to insulin glargine characterized by the same profile of action in diabetics. The oligomerization process of insulin during development of pharmaceutical formulation with routinely used excipients has been studied using translation diffusion coefficient Dix10-10m2s-1 established in water solution. These properties were compared with those of human insulin (HIS) which is a standard reference for novel recombinant insulins.
