OBJECTIVE: Cognitive decline represents a critical clinical and public health issue that adversely affects the quality of life for older patients and their families. This concern was exacerbated by the reduced engagement in outdoor activities among seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic, presenting substantial challenges to aging societies. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of health qigong combined with Tibetan dance on working memory in middle-aged and elderly women, and to determine its potential as a preventive strategy against cognitive disorders. METHODS: A pilot study was conducted to compare the effects of a Health Qigong exercise intervention with those of everyday life and sports routines. The primary outcome measure was working memory assessed using a 2-Back working memory task research paradigm. Between July and September 2021, a total of 33 women were divided into four groups: two middle-aged groups (N = 18, with 8 women in the experimental group and 10 in the control group) and two elderly groups (N = 15, with 7 in the experimental group and 8 in the control group). Participants in the experimental groups underwent a 10-week intervention, consisting of three 60-min sessions per week. Each session included a warm-up, Health Qigong combined with Tibetan dance, and a cool-down. Throughout the study, all participants continued their daily routines. Response times and error rates were analyzed using a mixed-design repeated-measures analysis of variance. RESULTS: A simple effects analysis revealed that Health Qigong combined with Tibetan dance significantly enhanced 2-Back response time and error rate in the middle-aged group. In contrast, the 2-Back error rate significantly increased in the elderly control group that did not receive the intervention (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Health Qigong demonstrates beneficial effects on middle-aged and elderly women. Combining Health Qigong with dance may serve as a preventive measure against cognitive disorders. This pioneering study conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, assesses the new possibility of Health Qigong and dance, with the objective to offer more diverse indoor exercise options for middle-aged and elderly women.

In this study, microcapsule beads-0-3-layers (M-0-3 indicates microencapsulated beads with 0, 1, 2, and 3 layers) were prepared, their properties were measured and characterized, and the effects of M-0-3 on solid-state fermentation were investigated. The results showed that in a liquid environment, the releasing glucoamylase activities of M-0-3 were 55.77%, 47.67%, 45.85%, and 42.87% in 360 h, respectively. In the solid environment, the reducing sugar production efficiency of M-0-3 was 29.84%, 27.72%, 19.16%, and 15.93% in 15 days, respectively. Adding M-0-3 improved the alcohol and reduced sugar content while decreasing the residual starch content of the Jiupei, indicating that adding M-0-3 was beneficial to the solid-state fermentation of Baijiu. Solid-state fermentation simulation experiments illustrated that microcapsule beads play a positive role in the production of Baijiu, enhancing raw material utilization and yield of Baijiu production.

RESUMO

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease with no known cure that results in joint deformities and dysfunction, significantly impacting the quality of life of patients. The abnormal NF-KB signaling pathway in RA has emerged as a crucial research area for the development of RA therapies, with non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) serving as a potentially meaningful avenue to regulate it. Thus, understanding the role of ncRNAs in RA and the identification of new therapeutic targets have become pressing issues in the field. In this review, we aim to summarize recent studies on ncRNAs that regulate the NF-KB signaling pathway in RA, including miRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs, as well as the mechanisms by which drugs modulate NF-K B activity. By highlighting these recent advances, we hope to promote further research into targeted RA therapy and provide novel directions and ideas for researchers in the field.

BACKGROUND: Rotavirus infection is the main cause of severe dehydration enteritis in children under 5 years old. It gives rise to malnutrition and even death in children even though there were rotavirus vaccines. However, there is no effective anti-virus drugs for rotavirus, supporting treatments are used in the clinics. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been treating diarrhea for many years. Gegen Huangqin Huanglian Decoction (GHHD)is a classic prescription for diarrhea in TCM. With the development of clinical trials and basic studies, GHHD has been proved that a good curative effect on diarrhea. Therefore, a systematic review is necessary to improve available evidence for GHHD in therapy of children under 5 years old with rotavirus enteritis. METHODS: Different studies from various databases will be involved in this study. Only randomized controlled trials of rotavirus enteritis patients diagnosed with Guidelines for the Treatment of Acute Gastroenteritis in Outpatient Pediatrics, which released by the Washington International Children's Medical Center, Zhu Futang's Practical Pediatrics (7 th Edition), and the 2016 clinical practice guidelines for children with acute infectious diarrhea in China. We will search the literature in the databases from China Conference Paper Database, manual searching. Electronic database includes PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI (China National Knowledge Internet), WanFang, VIP (Chongqing VIP), and CBM (China Biomedical Literature CDROM Database). The primary outcomes include the total effective rate, the time of stopping diarrhea, the level of IL-6 serum concentration, fecal microflora ratio, the conversion of fecal rotavirus antigen. The secondary outcomes include clinical efficacy and the quantitative integral of TCM symptom, recovery time of stool character, treatment period. Besides, incidence of adverse events (such as irritation and toxicity) and costs will be also considered. Data will be extracted by 2 researchers independently, risk of bias of the meta-analysis will be evaluated based on the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. All data analysis will be conducted by data statistics software Review Manager V.5.3 and Stata V.12.0. RESULTS: This study will synthesize and provide high-quality evidence based on the data of the currently published GHHD for the treatment of children rotavirus enteritis, in terms of the total effective rate, the time of stopping diarrhea, the level of IL-6 serum concentration, fecal microflora ratio, stool rotavirus antigen, clinical efficacy and the quantitative integral of TCM symptom, recovery time of stool character, treatment period, and safety. CONCLUSION: This systematic review aims to evaluated the benefits and harms of GHHD for the treatment of children rotavirus enteritis reported in randomized controlled trials, and provide more options for clinicians and patients to treat children rotavirus enteritis. BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence showed that microRNAs are involved in development and progression of multiple tumors. Recent studies have found that miR-181a were dysregulated in several types of cancers, however, the function of miR-181a in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear. In this study we assessed the potential association between miR-181a, HBV and HCC. METHODS: The expression of miR-181a in HBV-expressing cells was determined by using qRT-PCR. Dual-Luciferase reporter Assay, qRT-PCR and western blot were performed to investigate the target genes of miR-181a. The effects of miR-181a on HCC proliferation were analyzed by MTS and colony formation assay. Tumor growth assay was used to analyze the effect of miR-181a on tumor formation. RESULTS: HBV up-regulated miR-181a expression by enhancing its promoter activity. Overexpression of miR-181a in hepatoma cells promoted cell growth in vitro and tumor formation in vivo. Conversely, inhibition of miR-181a suppressed the proliferation of HBV-expressing cells. Mechanism investigation revealed that miR-181a inhibited the expression of transcription factor E2F5 by specifically targeting its mRNA 3'UTR. Moreover, E2F5 inhibition induced cell growth and rescued the suppressive effect of miR-181a inhibitor on the proliferation of SMMC-7721 cells. Interestingly, we also discovered that HBV could down-regulate E2F5 expression. CONCLUSIONS: Those results strongly suggested that HBV down-regulated E2F5 expression, in part, by up-regulating the expression of miR-181a. Up-regulation of miR-181a by HBV in hepatoma cells may contribute to the progression of HCC possibly by targeting E2F5, suggesting miR-181a plays important role in HCC development.
