RESUMO

Phasing down fossil fuels is crucial for climate mitigation. Even though 80-90% of fossil fuels are used to provide energy, their use as feedstock to produce plastics, fertilizers, and chemicals, is associated with substantial CO2 emissions. However, our understanding of hard-to-abate chemical production remains limited. Here we developed a chemical process-based material flow model to investigate the non-energy use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions in China. Results show in 2017, the chemical industry used 0.18 Gt of coal, 88.8 Mt of crude oil, and 12.9 Mt of natural gas as feedstock, constituting 5%, 15%, and 7% of China's respective total use. Coal-fed production of methanol, ammonia, and PVCs contributes to 0.27 Gt CO2 emissions ( ~ 3% of China's emissions). As China seeks to balance high CO2 emissions of coal-fed production with import dependence on oil and gas, improving energy efficiency and coupling green hydrogen emerges as attractive alternatives for decarbonization.

The majority of advanced breast cancers exhibit strong aggressiveness, heterogeneity, and drug resistance, and currently, the lack of effective treatment strategies is one of the main challenges that cancer research must face. Therefore, developing a feasible preclinical model to explore tailored treatments for refractory breast cancer is urgently needed. We established organoid biobanks from 17 patients with breast cancer and characterized them by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and next generation sequencing (NGS). In addition, we in the first combination of patient-derived organoids (PDOs) with mini-patient-derived xenografts (Mini-PDXs) for the rapid and precise screening of drug sensitivity. We confirmed that breast cancer organoids are a high-fidelity three-dimension (3D) model in vitro that recapitulates the original tumour's histological and genetic features. In addition, for a heavily pretreated patient with advanced drug-resistant breast cancer, we combined PDO and Mini-PDX models to identify potentially effective combinations of therapeutic agents for this patient who were alpelisib + fulvestrant. In the drug sensitivity experiment of organoids, we observed changes in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling axis and oestrogen receptor (ER) protein expression levels, which further verified the reliability of the screening results. Our study demonstrates that the PDO combined with mini-PDX model offers a rapid and precise drug screening platform that holds promise for personalized medicine, improving patient outcomes and addressing the urgent need for effective therapies in advanced breast cancer.

Ionic liquid-based thermoelectric gels become a compelling candidate for thermoelectric power generation and sensing due to their giant thermopower, good thermal stability, high flexibility, and low-cost production. However, the materials reported to date suffer from canonical trade-offs between self-healing ability, stretchability, strength, and ionic conductivity. Herein, a self-healing and tough ionogel (PEO/LiTFSI/EmimCl) with tunable thermoelectric properties by tailoring metal-halogen bonding interactions, is developed. Different affinities between polymer matrix and salts are exploited to induce phase separation, resulting in simultaneous enhancement of ionic conductivity and mechanical strength. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and spectroscopic analyses show that Cl- ions impair the lithium-ether oxygen coordination, leading to changes in chain conformation. The migration difference between cations and anions is thus widened and a transition from n-type to p-type thermoelectric ionogels is realized. Furthermore, the dynamic interactions of metal-ligand coordination and hydrogen bonding yield autonomously self-healing capability, large stretchability (2000%), and environment-friendly recyclability. Benefiting from these fascinating properties, the multifunctional PEO-based ionogels are applied in sensors, supercapacitors, and thermoelectric power generation modules. The strategy of tuning solvation dominance to address the trade-offs in thermoelectric ionogels and optimize their macroscopic properties offers new possibilities for the design of advanced ionogels.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has greater infiltration of M2-like macrophages (TAMs), which enhances cancer cell invasion and leads to a poor prognosis. TNBC progression is mediated by both tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here we elucidate the mechanism of the interaction between TNBC cells and TAMs. In this study, we confirmed that CD44v5 is highly expressed in TNBC, which drives TNBC cell metastasis and promotes TAM polarization by co-localizing with IL4Rα and inhibiting its internalization and degradation, thereby promoting activation of the STAT3/IL6 signaling axis. At the same time, TAMs also facilitate TNBC cell metastasis by secreting IL-4, IL-6, and other cytokines, in which the IL-4/IL-4R/STAT3/IL-6 signaling axis plays the same role for TNBC cells responding to TAMs. Moreover, we found that the above progress could be suppressed when the CD44v5 domain was blocked. We demonstrated that the CD44v5/IL-4R/STAT3/IL-6 signaling pathway plays a key role in TNBC cell metastasis, and in TNBC cells inducing TAM polarization and responding to TAMs, promoting metastasis. Collectively, we suggest that the CD44v5 domain may be a promising target for regulating the TME of TNBC as well as treating TNBC.

In this work, an intramolecular carbon nitride (CN)-based quaternary homojunction functionalized with pyridine rings is prepared via an in situ alkali-assisted copolymerization strategy of bulk CN and 2-aminopyridine for efficient visible light hydrogen generation. In the obtained structure, triazine-based CN (TCN), heptazine-based CN (HCN), pyridine unit incorporated TCN, and pyridine ring inserted HCN constitute a special multicomponent system and form a built-in electric field between the crystalline semiconductors by the arrangement of energy band levels. The electron-withdrawing function of the conjugated heterocycle can trigger the skeleton delocalization and edge induction effect. Highly accelerated photoelectron-hole transfer rates via multi-stepwise charge migration pathways are achieved by the synergistic effect of the functional group modification and molecular quaternary homojunction. Under the addition of 5 mg 2-aminopyridine, the resulting homojunction framework exhibits a significantly improved hydrogen evolution rate of 6.64 mmol g-1 h-1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of 12.27% at 420 nm. Further, the catalyst verifies its potential commercial value since it can produce hydrogen from various real water environments. This study provides a reliable way for the rational design and fabrication of intramolecular multi-homojunction to obtain high-efficient photocatalytic reactions.

Beta-lactoglobulin (ß-Lg), a prominent milk protein, is a major contributor to milk allergies. The quantitative assessment of ß-Lg is a valuable method for assessing the allergenic potential of dairy products. In this study, a specific aptamer, ß-Lg-01, with an affinity constant (KD) of 28.6 nM for ß-Lg was screened through seven rounds of magnetic bead SELEX (MB-SELEX). A novel bio-layer interferometry (BLI)-based aptasensor was developed, which had a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.3 ng mL-1, a linear range of 1.5 ng mL-1-15 µg mL-1, and a recovery rate of 102-116% among the milk samples. This aptasensor provides a potential tool for the detection and risk assessment of ß-Lg within 10 min.

BACKGROUND: Acute pancreatitis (AP) has heterogeneous clinical features, and identifying clinically relevant sub-phenotypes is useful. We aimed to identify novel sub-phenotypes in hospitalized AP patients using longitudinal total serum calcium (TSC) trajectories. METHODS: AP patients had at least two TSC measurements during the first 24 h of hospitalization in the US-based critical care database (Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III (MIMIC-III) and MIMIC-IV were included. Group-based trajectory modeling was used to identify calcium trajectory phenotypes, and patient characteristics and treatment outcomes were compared between the phenotypes. RESULTS: A total of 4518 admissions were included in the analysis. Four TSC trajectory groups were identified: "Very low TSC, slow resolvers" (n = 65; 1.4% of the cohort); "Moderately low TSC" (n = 559; 12.4%); "Stable normal-calcium" (n = 3875; 85.8%); and "Fluctuating high TSC" (n = 19; 0.4%). The "Very low TSC, slow resolvers" had the lowest initial, maximum, minimum, and mean TSC, and highest SOFA score, creatinine and glucose level. In contrast, the "Stable normal-calcium" had the fewest ICU admission, antibiotic use, intubation and renal replace treatment. In adjusted analysis, significantly higher in-hospital mortality was noted among "Very low TSC, slow resolvers" (odds ratio [OR], 7.2; 95% CI, 3.7 to 14.0), "moderately low TSC" (OR, 5.0; 95% CI, 3.8 to 6.7), and "Fluctuating high TSC" (OR, 5.6; 95% CI, 1.5 to 20.6) compared with the "Stable normal-calcium" group. CONCLUSIONS: We identified four novel sub-phenotypes of patients with AP, with significant variability in clinical outcomes. Not only the absolute TSC levels but also their trajectories were significantly associated with in-hospital mortality.

In this study, a novel quality control strategy was proposed, aiming to establish a multivariate specification for the processing step by exploring the correlation between colors, chemical components, and hemostatic effects of the carbonized Typhae pollen (CTP) using multivariate statistical analysis. The CTP samples were stir-fried at different durations. Afterward, the colorimeter and LC-MS techniques were applied to characterize the CTP samples, followed by the determination of bleeding time and clotting time using mice to evaluate their hemostatic effect. Then, principal component analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and multi-block partial least squares were used for data analysis on colors, chemical components, and their correlation with the hemostatic effect. Consequently, 13 critical quality attributes (CQAs) of CTP were identified via multivariate statistical analysis-L*, a*, b*, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 3-hydroxybenzoic acid, quercetin-3-O-glucoside, azelaic acid, kaempferol-3-O-glucoside, quercetin, naringenin, kaempferol, and isorhamnetin. The multivariate specification method involving the 13 CQAs was developed and visualized in the latent variable space of the partial least squares model, indicating that the proposed method was successfully applied to assess the quality of CTP and the degree of carbonization. Most importantly, this study offers a novel insight into the control of processing for carbonized Chinese herbal medicines.

The precise mechanism behind the association between plants' reactions to cadmium (Cd) stress and brassinosteroid (BR) remains unclear. In the current investigation, Cd stress quickly increased the endogenous BR concentration in the rice roots. Exogenous BR also increased the hemicellulose level in the root cell wall, which in turn increased its capacity to bind Cd. Simultaneously, the transcription level of genes responsible for root Cd absorption was decreased, including Natural Resistance-Associated Macrophage Protein 1/5 (OsNRAMP1/5) and a major facilitator superfamily gene called OsCd1. Ultimately, the increased expression of Heavy Metal ATPase 3 (OsHMA3) and the decreased expression of OsHMA2, which was in charge of separating Cd into vacuoles and translocating Cd to the shoots, respectively, led to a decrease in the amount of Cd that accumulated in the rice shoots. In contrast, transgenic rice lines overexpressing OsGSK2 (a negative regulator in BR signaling) accumulated more Cd, while OsGSK2 RNA interference (RNAi) rice line accumulated less Cd. Furthermore, BR increased endogenous Gibberellic acid (GA) level, and applying GA could replicate its alleviative effect. Taken together, BR decreased Cd accumulation in rice by mediating the cell wall's fixation capacity to Cd, which might relied on the buildup of the GA.

RESUMO

Since genetic research entered the post-genomic era, the high heritability of language disorders has been confirmed. A variety of genetic-related diseases may cause various types of language disorders in children and/or adults. This article has summarized language disorders and their underlying mechanisms by searching the Web of Science database over the last decade, and combed the genetic researches for dyslexia, frontotemporal degeneration, specific language disorder, childhood speech apraxia and other single diseases that are strongly associated with the language disorders. It also provided a discussion over the co-occurrence of multiple diseases, with an aim to revealing the genetic association and/or pathogenetic mechanism in order to provide inspiration for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of language disorders.

Trousseau syndrome (TS) is a malignant tumor-mediated complication of the hypercoagulable state with an unknown etiology. Laboratory testing results in patients with TS have indicated elevated D-dimer levels. The imaging analysis in patients who had undergone stroke has shown the presence of several cerebral infarction lesions in multiple regions. Since patients have had malignant tumors for a long time when they suffer from a secondary stroke, the optimum time for radical tumor treatment is usually missed. This study reports a case to improve the early screening and detection of TS and reduce the risk of recurrence of cerebral infarction.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine the design and implementation of a high-fidelity simulation training course for medical and nursing collaboration, based on the Fink integrated course design model. Additionally, the study aims to validate the teaching effectiveness of the course. Background: Previous empirical studies have highlighted the effectiveness of collaborative healthcare education in institutional teaching and hospital training. However, the development of healthcare collaborative education in China has been slow to develop in China. In recent years, Chinese nursing educators and researchers have shown interest in utilizing high-fidelity simulators for healthcare collaborative education. These simulators help address the limitations of traditional nursing teaching and healthcare separation simulation. Nevertheless, a standardized simulation interprofessional education curriculum is still lacking. Therefore, nursing educators need to develop a standardized high-fidelity simulation training curriculum for healthcare collaboration, guided by established science curriculum development theories. Methods: A high-fidelity simulation training course on healthcare collaboration was designed based on the Fink integrated curriculum design model. The course was taught to 14 nursing students and 8 clinical medicine students from March to July 2022. To comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of the healthcare collaboration high-fidelity simulation training course, several assessment tools were used. These included course grades, satisfaction and self-confidence scales, simulation teaching practice scales, healthcare collaboration attitude scales, critical thinking skills scales, and semi-structured interviews. Results: After the course was implemented, students demonstrated high overall scores (79.19 ± 5.12) and reported high satisfaction ratings (4.44 ± 0.37). They also exhibited increased self-confidence (4.16 ± 0.33). Additionally, students evaluated all four dimensions of the course teaching practice scale positively. Furthermore, the study demonstrated significant improvements in various aspects, such as attitudes toward medical and nursing collaboration (t = -7.135, P < 0.01), shared education and teamwork (t = -3.247, P = 0.002), job autonomy for nurses (t = -1.782, P = 0.000), and reduced physician dominance (t = -6.768, P = 0.000). The critical thinking skills of the students showed significant improvement, with higher scores in truth-seeking (t = -3.052, P = 0.004), analytical ability (t = -2.561, P = 0.014), systematic ability (t = -3.491, P = 0.001), self-confidence in critical thinking (t = -4.024, P = 0.000), and curiosity (t = -5.318, P = 0.000) compared to their scores before the course (all P < 0.05). The interviews showed that the course's student-centered approach enabled active learning. Students suggested enhancing teaching cases and allocating more time for reflection and summarization. Conclusion: The study successfully designed a high-fidelity simulation training course for healthcare collaboration by utilizing the Fink integrated curriculum design model. The findings provide valuable insights for the development of standardized curricula and healthcare collaboration education in China. Moreover, the course adheres to best practice principles, fostering improved attitudes toward healthcare collaboration and enhancing students' healthcare collaboration and clinical thinking skills.

INTRODUCTION: Intestinal flora and the translocation of its products, such as muramyl dipeptide (MDP), are common causes of sepsis. MDP is a common activator of the intracellular pattern recognition receptor NOD2, and MDP translocation can cause inflammatory damage to the small intestine and systemic inflammatory responses in rats. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of MDP on the intestinal mucosa and distant organs during sepsis and the role of the NOD2/AMPK/LC3 pathway in MDP-induced mitochondrial dysfunction in the intestinal epithelium. METHODS: Fifty male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into five treatment groups: lipopolysaccharide (LPS) only, 1.5 and 15 mg/kg MDP + LPS, and 1.5 and 15 mg/kg MDP + short-peptide enteral nutrition (SPEN) + LPS. The total caloric intake was the same per group. The rats were euthanized 24 hours after establishing the model, and peripheral blood and small intestinal mucosal and lung tissues were collected. RESULTS: Compared to the LPS group, both MDP + LPS groups had aggravated inflammatory damage to the intestinal mucosal and lung tissues, increased IL-6 and MDP production, increased NOD2 expression, decreased AMPK and LC3 expression, increased mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production, and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. Compared to the MDP + LPS groups, the MDP + SPEN+LPS groups had decreased IL-6 and MDP production, increased AMPK and LC3 protein expression, and protected mitochondrial and organ functions. CONCLUSIONS: MDP translocation reduced mitochondrial autophagy by regulating the NOD2/AMPK/LC3 pathway, causing mitochondrial dysfunction. SPEN protected against MDP-induced impairment of intestinal epithelial mitochondrial function during sepsis.

Chronic diabetic wounds are a serious complication of diabetes and often result in limb amputations and confer high mortality rates. The proinflammatory secretome in the wound perpetuates defective neovascularization and contributes to dysregulated tissue repair. This study aims to design a gelatin methacrylamide (GelMA) hydrogel to sustained the release of grancalcin-neutralizing antibody (GCA-NAb) and evaluate it as a potential scaffold to promote diabetic wound healing. Results show that the expression of grancalcin(GCA), a protein secreted by bone marrow-derived immune cells, is elevated in the wound sites of individuals and animals with diabetic ulcers. Genetic inhibition of grancalcin expression accelerates vascularization and healing in an animal model. Mechanistic studies show that grancalcin binds to transient receptor potential melastatin 8(TRPM8) and partially inactivates its downstream signaling pathways, thereby impairing angiogenesis in vitro and ex vivo. Systemic or topical administration of a GCA-NAb accelerate wound repair in mice with diabetes. The data suggest that GCA is a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetic ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Despite promising overall survival of stage I lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients, 10-25 % of them still went through recurrence after surgery. [1] While it is still disputable whether adjuvant chemotherapy is necessary for stage I patients. [2] IASLC grading system for non-mucinous LUAD shows that minor high-grade patterns are significant indicator of poor prognosis. [3] Other risk factors, such as, pleura invasion, lympho-vascular invasion, STAS, etc. are also related to poor prognosis. [4-6] There still lack evidence whether IASLC grade itself or together with other risk factors can guide the use of adjuvant therapy in stage I patients. In this article, we tried to establish a multi-variable recurrence prediction model for stage I LUAD patients that is able to identify candidates of adjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS: We retrospectively collected patients who underwent lung surgery from 2018.8.1 to 2018.12.31 at our institution and diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma pT1-2aN0M0 (stage I). Clinical data, manifestation on CT scan, pathologic features, driver gene mutations and follow-up information were collected. Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed utilizing the non-adjuvant cohort to predict disease free survival (DFS) and a nomogram was constructed and applied to the total cohort. Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare DFS between groups. Statistical analysis was conducted by R version 3.6.3. FINDINGS: A total of 913 stage I LUAD patients were included in this study. Median follow-up time is 48.1 months.4-year and 5-year DFS are 92.9 % and 89.6 % for the total cohort. 65 patient experienced recurrence or death. 4-year DFS are 97.0 %,94.6 % and 76.2 %, and 5-year DFS are 95.5 %, 90.0 % and 74.1 % in IASLC Grade1, 2 and 3, respectively(p < 0.0001). High-risk patients defined by single risk factors, such as, IASLC grade 3, pleura invasion, STAS, less LN resected could not benefit from adjuvant therapy. A LASSO-COX regression model was built and patients are divided into high-risk and low-risk groups. In the high-risk group, patients underwent adjuvant chemotherapy have longer DFS than those who did not (p = 0.024), while in the low-risk group, patients underwent adjuvant chemotherapy have inferior DFS than those who did not (p < 0.001). INTERPRETATION: IASLC grading is a significant indicator of DFS, however it could not guide adjuvant therapy in our stage I LUAD cohort. Growth patterns and T indicators together with other risk factors could identify high-risk patients that are potential candidate of adjuvant therapy, including some stage IA LUAD patients.

Background: Due to scarce therapeutic options, hospital-acquired infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP), particularly carbapenem-resistant KP (CRKP), pose enormous threat to patients' health worldwide. This study aimed to characterize the epidemiology and risk factors of CRKP among nosocomial KP infections. Method: MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, and Google Scholar were searched for studies reporting CRKP prevalence from inception to 30 March 2023. Data from eligible publications were extracted and subjected to meta-analysis to obtain global, regional, and country-specific estimates. To determine the cause of heterogeneity among the selected studies, prespecified subgroup analyses and meta-regression were also performed. Odds ratios of CRKP-associated risk factors were pooled by a DerSimonian and Laird random-effects method. Results: We retained 61 articles across 14 countries and territories. The global prevalence of CRKP among patients with KP infections was 28.69% (95% CI, 26.53%-30.86%). South Asia had the highest CRKP prevalence at 66.04% (95% CI, 54.22%-77.85%), while high-income North America had the lowest prevalence at 14.29% (95% CI, 6.50%-22.0%). In the country/territory level, Greece had the highest prevalence at 70.61% (95% CI, 56.77%-84.45%), followed by India at 67.62% (95% CI, 53.74%-81.79%) and Taiwan at 67.54% (95% CI, 58.65%-76.14%). Hospital-acquired CRKP infections were associated with the following factors: hematologic malignancies, corticosteroid therapies, intensive care unit stays, mechanical ventilations, central venous catheter implantations, previous hospitalization, and antibiotic-related exposures (antifungals, carbapenems, quinolones, and cephalosporins). Conclusions: Study findings highlight the importance of routine surveillance to control carbapenem resistance and suggest that patients with nosocomial KP infection have a very high prevalence of CRKP.

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common source of brain metastasis (BM), resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to identify patients with high BM risk who possibly benefit from brain-penetrant drugs, prophylactic cranial irradiation, or close brain magnetic resonance imaging surveillance. METHODS: Metastatic lung adenocarcinoma patients with extracranial tumor samples profiled by a next-generation sequencing panel targeting 425 tumor-related genes were retrospectively enrolled between February 2008 and July 2021. We compared BM and non-BM patients' genomic and clinical features and studied their associations with BM risk. Two external cohorts were used for result validation and molecular mechanisms investigation, respectively. RESULTS: We included 174 eligible patients, including 90 having developed BM by the end of follow-up. Age≤60, EGFR activating mutations, and high-level apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide-like (APOBEC) mutational signatures were associated with elevated BM risk. Similar findings in BM-free survival were obtained by fitting Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models addressing competing risks. Increased BM risk related to APOBEC mutational signatures was validated in an external cohort (N = 440). RNA sequencing data analyses performed in another external cohort (N = 230) revealed that expressions of metastasis-related pathways such as transforming growth factor (TGF)ß and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) were upregulated in the patients with high-level APOBEC mutational signatures. CONCLUSION: APOBEC mutational signatures related to upregulated TGFß and EMT, could serve as an independent risk factor for BM and BM-free survival in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma patients. Further investigations are warranted to tailor personalized treatments to improve the susceptible patient's outcomes.

BACKGROUND: It is uncertain whether adjunctive thrombolysis is beneficial for patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within 120 minutes of presentation. This study was to determine whether in patients presenting with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction a single bolus recombinant staphylokinase (r-SAK) before timely PCI leads to improved patency of the infarct-related artery and reduces the infarct size. METHODS: This is an open-label, prospective, multicenter, randomized study. We enrolled patients aged 18 to 75 years who were within 12 hours of symptom onset of ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction and expected to undergo PCI within 120 minutes. Patients were administered loading doses of aspirin and ticagrelor and intravenous heparin and were randomized to receive 5 mg bolus of r-SAK or normal saline intravenously before PCI. The primary end point was Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction flow grade 2 to 3 or grade 3 in the infarct-related artery 60 minutes after thrombolysis. The infarct size was detected by cardiac magnetic resonance 5 days after randomization. The safety end point was major bleeding (Bleeding Academic Research Consortium ≥3) during 30-day follow-up. RESULTS: A total of 283 patients were screened from 8 centers and 200 were randomized (median age, 58.5 years; 14% female). The median symptom to thrombolysis time was 252.5 (interquartile range, 142.8-423.8) minutes and thrombolysis to coronary arteriography was 50.0 (interquartile range, 37.0-66.0) minutes. Patients randomized to r-SAK compared with normal saline more often had Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction flow grade 2 to 3 (69.0% versus 29.0%; P<0.001) and Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction flow grade 3 (51.0% versus 18.0%; P<0.001) and had smaller infarct size (21.91±10.84% versus 26.85±12.37%; P=0.016). There was no increase in major bleeding (r-SAK, 1.0% versus control, 3.0%; P=0.616). CONCLUSIONS: A single bolus r-SAK before primary PCI for ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction improves infarct-related artery patency and reduces infarct size without increasing major bleeding. Foreign body reaction (FBR) is a prevalent yet often overlooked pathological phenomenon, particularly within the field of biomedical implantation. The presence of FBR poses a heavy burden on both the medical and socioeconomic systems. This review seeks to elucidate the protein "fingerprint" of implant materials, which is generated by the physiochemical properties of the implant materials themselves. In this review, the activity of macrophages, the formation of foreign body giant cells (FBGCs), and the development of fibrosis capsules in the context of FBR are introduced. Additionally, the relationship between various implant materials and FBR is elucidated in detail, as is an overview of the existing approaches and technologies employed to alleviate FBR. Finally, the significance of implant components (metallic materials and non-metallic materials), surface CHEMISTRY (charge and wettability), and physical characteristics (topography, roughness, and stiffness) in establishing the protein "fingerprint" of implant materials is also well documented. In conclusion, this review aims to emphasize the importance of FBR on implant materials and provides the current perspectives and approaches in developing implant materials with anti-FBR properties.
