RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Although health literacy (HL) has emerged as a critical public health concern, research on HL in emergency management departments is limited. This study aimed to investigate the awareness of HL and associated factors among firefighters of emergency management departments in southwest China to provide a basis for carrying out targeted health education. METHODS: A cross-sectional convenience sample of 1,742 firefighters from an emergency management department in southwestern China was surveyed from February to April 2023 using the Chinese Citizen's Health Literacy Questionnaire (2019 version). The chi-square test, linear trend chi-square test, Fisher's test, rank sum test, and multifactorial logistic regression model were used to identify influential factors associated with HL. RESULTS: The HL level of the 1742 respondents was 34.3%. Age, ethnicity, education level, length of service, type of job, smoking status, types of parental jobs, annual household income, time of daily internet use, etc. (P < 0.05). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicate that type of job (OR = 0.648, 95%CI:0.426-0.985), length of service (OR = 0.496, 95%CI:0.251-0.981), household income (OR = 1.900, 95%CI:1.443-2.502), daily internet usage time (OR = 0.726, 95%Cl:0.588-0.896), health status (OR = 0.750, 95%Cl:0.585-0.962) and frequency of organizing HL sessions (OR = 1.603, 95%Cl:1.101-2.330) were influencing factors affecting the HL of the officers and soldiers. CONCLUSION: The health literacy level of firefighters in the Emergency Management Department in Southwest China was 34.3%. Lower levels were found in the health-related skills dimension (HRS, 30.1%) and in infectious disease control (ID, 30.7%). Health information literacy (HI, 34.3%) was lower than the national level. The type of urban and rural areas, literacy level, and household income level may be the factors affecting the level of health literacy among the respondents. Therefore, health education and promotion interventions should target high priority dimensions (HRS, HI, and ID) and should focus on strengthening health literacy levels of firefighters with rural types, low education levels, and low household income to improve their health.

Teachers' audible teaching language is essential for organizing classroom instruction. This study used a questionnaire to compare expert, skilled, and novice high school mathematics teachers' audible teaching language from the perspective of student satisfaction. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, and the participants were students from a key high school in Changsha, China. A research framework and research instrument with good reliability and validity were constructed for this study. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. The results showed 263 valid questionnaires, good measurement model fit, and high reliability and validity of the questionnaire. It was found that: (1) students were highly satisfied with the audible teaching language of high school mathematics teachers; (2) student satisfaction with the audible teaching language of skilled, expert, and novice mathematics teachers declined in order, but there was no significant difference overall; (3) students were more satisfied with expert mathematics teachers than with novice teachers in terms of the tone and adaptability of the audible teaching language. The researchers discussed the study's results, suggested how pre-service and post-service mathematics teachers can improve the quality of their audible teaching language, and pointed out the value and limitations of the study.

Preservice mathematics teachers' accurate understanding of mathematical problem solving and its teaching is key to the performance of their professional quality. This study aims to investigate preservice mathematics teachers' understanding of problem solving and its teaching and compares it with the understanding of in-service mathematics teachers. After surveying 326 in-service mathematics teachers, this study constructs a reliable and valid tool for the cognition of mathematical problem solving and its teaching and conducts a questionnaire survey on 26 preservice mathematics teachers. Survey results reveal that preservice mathematics teachers have a good understanding of mathematical problem solving and its teaching and are more confident in the transfer value of problem solving ability. By contrast, in-service teachers are more optimistic that problem solving requires exploration, continuous thinking, and the participation of metacognition. This article concludes that preservice mathematics teachers should focus more on the initiative and creativity of students and put students at the center of education. In addition, teacher educators should provide more teaching practice opportunities for preservice teachers. The findings also show that in-service teachers' understanding of problem solving and its teaching is inferior to that of preservice teachers on some indicators, implying the importance of post-service training for in-service teachers.

In Weyl semimetals, charge density wave (CDW) order can spontaneously break the chiral symmetry, gap out the Weyl nodes, and drive the material into the axion insulating phase. Investigations have however been limited since CDWs are rarely seen in Weyl semimetals. Here, using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S), we report the discovery of a novel unidirectional CDW order on the (001) surface of chiral crystal CoSi - a unique Weyl semimetal with unconventional chiral fermions. The CDW is incommensurate with both lattice momentum and crystalline symmetry directions, and exhibits an intra unit cell π phase shift in the layer stacking direction. The tunneling spectrum shows a particle-hole asymmetric V-shaped energy gap around the Fermi level that modulates spatially with the CDW wave vector. Combined with first-principle calculations, we identify that the CDW is locked to the crystal chirality and is related by a mirror reflection between the two enantiomers of the chiral crystal. Our findings reveal a novel correlated topological quantum state in chiral CoSi crystals and raise the potential for exploring the unprecedented physical behaviors of unconventional chiral fermions.
