RESUMO

Helicid (HEL) has been found to possess antidepressant pharmacological activity. The paper was to testify to the precise molecular mechanism through which HEL regulates lncRNA-NONRATT030918.2 to exert an antidepressant impression in depression models. A depression model stimulated using chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) was created in rats, and the depressive state of the rats was assessed through behavioral experiments. Additionally, an in vitro model of PC12 cells induced by corticosterone (CORT) was established, and cytoactive was tested using the CCK8. The subcellular localization of the NONRATT030918.2 molecule was confirmed through a fluorescence in situ hybridization experiment. The relationship between NONRATT030918.2, miRNA-128-3p, and Prim1 was analyzed using dual-luciferase reporter gene assay, RNA Binding Protein Immunoprecipitation assay, and RNA pull-down assay. The levels of NONRATT030918.2, miRNA-128-3p, and Prim1 were tested using Q-PCR. Furthermore, the levels of Prim1, Bax, Bcl-2, and caspase3 were checked through Western blot. The HEL can alleviate the depression-like behavior of CUMS rats (P < 0.05), and reduce the mortality of hippocampal via downregulating the level of NONRATT030918.2 (P < 0.05). In CORT-induced PC12 cells, intervention with HEL led to decreased expression of NONRATT030918.2 and Prim1 (P < 0.05), as well as increased expression of miRNA-128-3p (P < 0.05). This suggests that HEL regulates the expression of NONRATT030918.2 to upregulate miRNA-128-3p (P < 0.05), which in turn inhibits CORT-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells by targeting Prim1 (P < 0.05). The NONRATT030918.2/miRNA-128-3p/Prim1 axis could potentially serve as a crucial regulatory network for HEL to exert its neuroprotective effects.

The applications of organic-amine desulfurization have steadily increased owing to its high efficiency, low cost, and low energy consumption. Different proportions of organic amines exert different effects on sulfur dioxide removal. Therefore, the accurate determination of different organic amines in the desulfurization solution is of great importance. The ion-chromatographic method for the detection of organic amines does not require a derivatization step, has simple pretreatment procedures, and allows for the simultaneous determination of many types of organic amines. In this study, a method based on ion chromatography was developed for the simultaneous determination of ethanolamine (MEA), diethylethanolamine (DEEA), n-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), hydroxyethylethylenediamine (AEEA), piperazine (PZ), n-hydroxyethylpiperazine (HEPZ), and diethylenetriamine (DETA). The separation efficiency of the eight organic amines in different types of columns, leaching solutions, and column temperatures were compared. The determination was performed using an IonPac CS17 column with column temperature of 35 ℃ and gradient leaching with methyl sulfonic acid (MSA) solution via the inhibition conductance method. Samples of the desulfurization solution were analyzed using ultrapure water filtered through a 0.22 µm nylon microporous filter membrane and an OnGuard Ⅱ RP column; thus, the pretreatment steps are simple. The eight organic amines showed a good linear relationship within a certain concentration range, and the coefficient of determinations (R2) were greater than 0.998. The limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) were determined from the mass concentrations of the organic amines corresponding to signal-to-noise ratios (S/N) of 3 and 10, respectively. LODs of 0.02-0.08 mg/L and LOQs of 0.07-0.27 mg/L were determined from a 1.0 µL sample injection. The actual recoveries ranged from 93.0% to 111%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs, n=5) ranged from 0.31% to 1.2%. The results indicated that the proposed method has good accuracy and precision; thus, it is suitable for the determination of various organic amines in desulfurization solution.

Tris(2,4,6trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) group has been widely used for constructing organic radicals, but the poor optical stabilities limit the application prospects of the TTM radicals. In this work, the rigid B- and N-embedded dioxygen-bridged (BO and NO) units were attached to the TTM skeleton as the strong electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups, respectively. The rigidity and strong electronic effect of the BO and NO units contribute to the high chemical and optical stability of BO-TTM and NO-TTM radicals. Notably, NO-TTM exhibits near-infrared emission at 830 nm with a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 55 nm (100 meV), while BO-TTM shows blue-shifted luminescence at 635 nm and a narrower FWHM of merely 43 nm (130 meV). This study has developed a methodology to produce highly efficient and enduring luminescent radicals, which could tune emission properties such as wavelength and FWHM.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) has become a new endoscopic imaging technology at the microscopic level, which is extensively performed for real-time in vivo histological examination. CLE can be performed to distinguish benign from malignant lesions. In this study, we diagnosed using CLE an asymptomatic patient with poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma. CASE SUMMARY: A 63-year-old woman was diagnosed with gastric mucosal lesions, which may be gastric cancer, in the small curvature of the stomach by gastroscopy. She consented to undergo CLE for morphological observation of the gastric mucosa. Through the combination of CLE diagnosis and postoperative pathology, the intraoperative CLE diagnosis was considered to be reliable. According to our experience, CLE can be performed as the first choice for the diagnosis of gastric cancer. CONCLUSION: CLE has several advantages over pathological diagnosis. We believe that CLE has great potential in the diagnosis of benign and malignant gastric lesions.

Hydrogel actuators with anisotropic structures exhibit reversible responsiveness upon the trigger of various external stimuli, rendering them promising for applications in many fields including artificial muscles and soft robotics. However, their effective operation across multiple environments remains a persistent challenge, even for widely studied thermo-responsive polymers like poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAm). Current attempts to address this issue are hindered by complex synthetic procedures or specific substrates. This study introduces a straightforward methodology to grow a thin, dense PNIPAm nanoparticle layer on diverse hydrogel surfaces, creating a highly temperature-sensitive hydrogel actuator. This actuator demonstrates adaptability across various environments, including water, oil, and open air, owing to its distinct structure facilitating self-water circulation during actuation. The thin PNIPAm layer consists of interconnected PNIPAm nanoparticles synthesized via in situ interfacial precipitation polymerization, seamlessly bonded to the hydrogel substrate through an interfacial layer containing hybrid hydrogel/PNIPAm nanoparticles. This unique anisotropic structure ensures exceptional structural stability without interfacial delamination, even enduring harsh treatments such as freezing, ultrasonic irradiation, and prolonged water immersion. Remarkably, PNIPAm films on hydrogel surfaces which enable programmable 3D actuation can also be precisely patterned. This synthetic approach opens a novel pathway for fabricating advanced hydrogel actuators with broad-ranging applications.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and ferroptosis show significant potential in tumor treatment. However, their therapeutic efficacy is often hindered by the oxygen-deficient tumor microenvironment and the challenges associated with efficient intracellular drug delivery into tumor cells. Toward this end, this work synthesized perfluorocarbon (PFC)-modified Pluronic F127 (PFC-F127), and then exploits it as a carrier for codelivery of photosensitizer Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and the ferroptosis promoter sorafenib (Sor), yielding an oxygen self-supplying nanoplatform denoted as Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127. The PFCs on the surface of the micelle play a crucial role in efficiently solubilizing and delivering oxygen as well as increasing the hydrophobicity of the micelle surface, giving rise to enhanced endocytosis by cancer cells. The incorporation of an oxygen-carrying moiety into the micelles enhances the therapeutic impact of PDT and ferroptosis, leading to amplified endocytosis and cytotoxicity of tumor cells. Hypotonic saline technology was developed to enhance the cargo encapsulation efficiency. Notably, in a murine tumor model, Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127 effectively inhibited tumor growth through the combined use of oxygen-enhanced PDT and ferroptosis. Taken together, this work underscores the promising potential of Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127 as a multifunctional therapeutic nanoplatform for the codelivery of multiple cargos such as oxygen, photosensitizers, and ferroptosis inducers.

An unprecedented protocol has been developed for the synthesis of 3,4-heterocycle-fused coumarins from 4-aminocoumarins and aurones through iodine-catalyzed cascade reactions. Dihydropyridine-fused coumarin, pyridine-fused coumarin, and pyrrole-fused coumarin derivatives were achieved in good yields with high selectivity when CH3CN, AcOH, and DMSO were used as the solvent, respectively. This protocol provides several advantages, such as easily available starting materials, high atom economy, friendly environment, and simple procedure.

BACKGROUND: Patients with mood disorders usually require repeated and prolonged hospitalization, resulting in a heavy burden on healthcare resources. This study aims to identify variables associated with length of stay(LOS) of repeatedly hospitalized patients with mood disorders and to provide information for optimizing psychiatry management and healthcare resource allocation. METHODS: Electronic medical records (EMRs) of repeatedly hospitalized patients with mood disorders from January 2010 to December 2018 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. Chi-square and t-test were adopted to investigate the differences in characteristics between the two groups of short LOS and long LOS. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) was conducted to investigate potential factors influencing LOS. RESULTS: A total of 2,009 repeatedly hospitalized patients with mood disorders were enrolled, of which 797 (39.7%) had a long LOS and 1,212 (60.3%) had a short LOS. Adverse effects of treatment, continuous clinical manifestation, chronic onset type, suicide attempt, comorbidity and use of antidepressants were positively associated with long LOS among all repeatedly hospitalized patients with mood disorders (P < 0.050). For patients with depression, factors associated with long LOS consisted of age, monthly income, adverse effects of treatment, continuous clinical manifestation, suicide attempt and comorbidity (P < 0.050). Whereas, for patients with bipolar disorder (BD), adverse effects of treatment, four or more hospitalizations and use of antidepressants contributed to the long LOS (P < 0.050). Influencing factors of LOS also vary among patients with different effectiveness of treatment. CONCLUSION: The LOS in repeatedly hospitalized patients with mood disorders was influenced by multiple factors. There were discrepancies in the factors affecting LOS in patients with different diagnoses and effectiveness of treatment, and specific factors should be addressed when evaluating the LOS.

Constructing soft robotics with safe human-machine interactions requires low-modulus, high-power-density artificial muscles that are sensitive to gentle stimuli. In addition, the ability to resist crack propagation during long-term actuation cycles is essential for a long service life. Herein, a material design is proposed to combine all these desirable attributes in a single artificial muscle platform. The design involves the molecular engineering of a liquid crystalline network with crystallizable segments and an ethylene glycol flexible spacer. A high degree of crystallinity can be afforded by utilizing aza-Michael chemistry to produce a low covalent crosslinking density, resulting in crack-insensitivity with a high fracture energy of 33 720 J m-2 and a high fatigue threshold of 2250 J m-2. Such crack-resistant artificial muscle with tissue-matched modulus of 0.7 MPa can generate a high power density of 450 W kg-1 at a low temperature of 40 °C. Notably, because of the presence of crystalline domains in the actuated state, no crack propagation is observed after 500 heating-cooling actuation cycles under a static load of 220 kPa. This study points to a pathway for the creation of artificial muscles merging seemingly disparate, but desirable properties, broadening their application potential in smart devices.

Objective:To summarize the clinical characteristics and therapeutic effect of traumatic facial nerve palsy. Methods:Sixty-eight cases of traumatic facial nerve palsy were retrospectively analyzed from January 2015 to May 2023. Results:The median course of disease was 33 days. The facial nerve function of the patients was grade HB-Ⅱin 2 cases, grade HB-Ⅲ in 4 cases, grade HB-Ⅳin 16 cases, grade HB-Ⅴ in 37 cases(38 ears), and grade HB-Ⅵ in 9 cases. 42 cases occurred immediately after injury and 26 cases were delayed. CT examination of temporal bone revealed longitudinal fractures in 51 cases(52 ears) , transverse fractures in 6 cases and mixed fractures in 4 cases. No definite temporal bone fracture was found in the remaining 7 cases. The segments of facial nerve injury in 49 cases(50 ears) were geniculate ganglion and adjacent, in 7 cases were vertical segment, in 7 cases were horizontal segment, in 2 cases were horizontal segment and vertical segment; and the other 3 cases could not be evaluated. Conservative treatment with glucocorticoids was used in 23 ears and surgery was used in 46 ears. Patients were followed up 6-24 months after treatment, including 20 cases of grade HB-Ⅰ, 19 cases of grade HB-Ⅱ, 23 cases(24 ears) of grade HB-Ⅲ, 4 cases of grade HB-Ⅳ, and 1 case of grade HB-Ⅴ.One patient was lost to follow-up. After treatment, the facial nerve function of patients was significantly improved(P<0.05), and there were significant differences between conservative treatment group and surgical treatment group in the course of facial nerve palsy, the ratio of facial palsy immediately after injury, the nerve function before treatment and the nerve function after treatment(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in age, sex, hearing condition, temporal bone fracture, facial nerve injury segment and rate of favorable neurologic outcomes(P>0.05). The comparison of patients with neurodegeneration rate>90% and ≤90% showed that the facial nerve function of patients with neurodegeneration rate>90% before treatment was significantly worse(P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the facial nerve function after treatment(P>0.05). There was no significant difference in facial nerve function between middle fossa approach group and mastoid approach group(P>0.05). Conclusion:Patients with traumatic facial nerve palsy should be evaluated individually. Patients with mild facial nerve palsy, low neurodegeneration rate and short course of disease can be treated conservatively and followed up closely. Patients with severe facial nerve palsy, high neurodegeneration rate and more than 6 weeks of disease can be actively considered surgery. Good prognosis can be obtained by correct evaluation and treatment.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) refers to the widespread impairment of brain function caused by noncentral nervous system infection mediated by sepsis. Lipid peroxidation-induced ferroptosis contributes to the occurrence and course of SAE. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between neuronal injury and lipid peroxidation-induced ferroptosis in SAE. METHODS: Baseline data were collected from pediatric patients upon admission, and the expression levels of various markers related to lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis were monitored in the serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with SAE as well as SAE model mice. The hippocampal phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP)-1/15-lysine oxidase (LOX)/ glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) pathway was assessed for its role on the inhibitory effect of ferroptosis in SAE treatment. RESULTS: The results showed elevated levels of S100 calcium-binding protein beta (S-100ß), glial fibrillary acidic protein, and malondialdehyde in the serum of SAE patients, while superoxide dismutase levels were reduced. Furthermore, analysis of PBMCs revealed increased transcription levels of PEBP1, LOX, and long-chain fatty acyl-CoA synthetase family member 4 (ACSL4) in SAE patients, while the transcription levels of GPX4 and cystine/glutamate transporter xCT (SLC7A11) were decreased. In comparison to the control group, the SAE mice exhibited increased expression of S-100ß and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in the hippocampus, whereas the expression of S-100ß and NSE were reduced in deferoxamine (DFO) mice. Additionally, iron accumulation was observed in the hippocampus of SAE mice, while the iron ion levels were reduced in the DFO mice. Inhibition of ferroptosis alleviated the mitochondrial damage (as assessed by transmission electron microscopy, hippocampal mitochondrial ATP detection, and the JC-1 polymer-to-monomer ratio in the hippocampus) and the oxidative stress response induced by SAE as well as attenuated neuroinflammatory reactions. Further investigations revealed that the mechanism underlying the inhibitory effect of ferroptosis in SAE treatment is associated with the hippocampal PEBP-1/15-LOX/GPX4 pathway. CONCLUSION: These results offer potential therapeutic targets for the management of neuronal injury in SAE and valuable insights into the potential mechanisms of ferroptosis in neurological disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) have been found to have changes in cerebral perfusion and overlap of some of the lesioned brain areas. However, a consensus regarding the specific location and diagnostic significance of these cerebral blood perfusion alternations remains elusive in both iRBD and PD. The present study evaluated the patterns of cerebral blood flow changes in iRBD and PD. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 59 right-handed subjects were enrolled, including 15 patients with iRBD, 20 patients with PD, and 24 healthy controls (HC). They were randomly divided into groups at a ratio of 4 to 1 for training and testing. A PASL sequence was employed to obtain quantitative cerebral blood flow (CBF) maps. The CBF values were calculated from these acquired maps. In addition, AutoGluon was employed to construct a classifier for CBF features selection and classification. An independent t-test was performed for CBF variations, with age and sex as nuisance variables. The performance of the feature was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. A significance level of P < 0.05 was considered significant. CBF in several brain regions, including the left median cingulate and paracingulate gyri and the right middle occipital gyrus (MOG), showed significant differences between PD and HC, demonstrating good classification performance. The combined model that integrates all features achieved even higher performance with an AUC of 0.9380. Additionally, CBF values in multiple brain regions, including the right MOG and the left angular gyrus, displayed significant differences between PD and iRBD. Particularly, CBF values in the left angular gyrus exhibited good performance in classifying PD and iRBD. The combined model achieved improved performance, with an AUC of 0.8533. No significant differences were found in brain regions when comparing CBF values between iRBD and HC subjects. CONCLUSIONS: ASL-based quantitative CBF change features can offer reliable biomarkers to assist in the diagnosis of PD. Regarding the characteristic of CBF in the right MOG, it is anticipated to serve as an imaging biomarker for predicting the progression of iRBD to PD.

BACKGROUND: The overlap of imaging manifestations among distinct splenic lesions gives rise to a diagnostic dilemma. Consequently, a definitive diagnosis primarily relies on histological results. The ultrasound (US)-guided coaxial core needle biopsy (CNB) not only procures sufficient tissue to help clarify the diagnosis, but reduces the incidence of puncture-related complications. CASE SUMMARY: A 41-year-old female, with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis, was admitted to our hospital with multiple indeterminate splenic lesions. Gray-scale ultrasonography demonstrated splenomegaly with numerous well-defined hypoechoic masses. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) showed an enlarged spleen with multiple irregular-shaped, peripherally enhancing, hypodense lesions. Positron emission CT revealed numerous abnormal hyperglycemia foci. These imaging findings strongly indicated the possibility of infectious disease as the primary concern, with neoplastic lesions requiring exclusion. To obtain the precise pathological diagnosis, the US-guided coaxial CNB of the spleen was carried out. The patient did not express any discomfort during the procedure. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous US-guided coaxial CNB is an excellent and safe option for obtaining precise splenic tissue samples, as it significantly enhances sample yield for exact pathological analysis with minimum trauma to the spleen parenchyma and surrounding tissue.

OBJECTIVE: There are very diverse approaches for voice therapy, and the application of voice quality used in vocal arts in voice therapy can also be seen. However, there is little research on the application of opera voice quality in voice therapy. This study explored the applications of our Opera Voice Quality Exercise in the field of voice therapy and investigated the impacts of this exercise on pitch, intensity, voice quality, and vocal ability. METHODS: Sixty-two healthy subjects, defined as those with no discomfort in their voice and no appearance of organic lesions on the larynx via stroboscopic laryngoscopy were included in the study. The subjects were randomly divided into an experimental group of 31 subjects and a control group of 31 subjects. The experimental group received a voice health education and weekly coaching sessions of Opera Voice Quality Exercise, whereas the subjects in the control group only had the former. The acoustic and aerodynamic parameters were evaluated before and after the experimental interventions. RESULTS: When producing [a] at comfortable speech pitch and intensity, the experimental group compared to the control group showed statistically significant improvement (P < 0.05) in the irregularity component (IC) parameter for males. When producing [a] at loudest intensity at a higher pitch in the normal speech pitch range, the experimental group compared to the control group showed statistically significant increase (P < 0.01) in sound pressure level (SPL) as well as improvements (P < 0.05) in shimmer and IC parameters for males. There was a statistically significant increase (P < 0.05) in SPL for females. During continuous speech, the experimental group compared to the control group showed statistically significant increase (P < 0.01) in SPLmax (maximum sound pressure level) for both males and females. There was a statistically significant increase in highest pitch (P < 0.01) and lowest pitch (P < 0.05) for males. CONCLUSION: Regardless of gender, there is the greatest impact of Opera Voice Quality Exercise on phonation intensity. Furthermore, for males, this exercise causes the voice quality to be improved and the speech pitch to raise. Therefore, there may be applications of Opera Voice Quality Exercise in voice problems with weak voice such as nonorganic hypofunctional dysphonia, vocal fold paresis and paralysis, and voice problems related to Parkinson and age.

The molecular-scale structural changes in polycarboxylic superplasticizer (PCE) can influence dispersion and water retention. Polycarboxylate superplasticizer, synthesized using different methods, may alter dispersion and water-reducing effects. The synthesis of PCE involves creating a novel macromolecular monomer with a controllable molecular mass, adjustable lipophilic, and hydrophilic moieties, as outlined in this study. This article reviews processes for synthesizing polycarboxylates and identifies the optimal method through orthogonal experiments to produce a modified polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE-P). The study investigated the effects of different PCE types and concentrations on the surface tension, fluidity, and ζ potential of cement paste. PCE-P, synthesized at room temperature, showed comparable performances in initial hydration and conversion rate in cement to PCE synthesized at high temperatures. PCE-P exhibited an increased slump but had a wider molecular weight distribution and longer main and side chains, leading to a 24.04% decrease in surface tension, indicating a good dispersibility.

BACKGROUND: The Glypican 3 (GPC3)-positive expression in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is associated with a worse prognosis. Moreover, GPC3 has emerged as an immunotherapeutic target in advanced unresectable HCC systemic therapy. It is significant to diagnose GPC3-positive HCCs before therapy. Regarding imaging diagnosis of HCC, dynamic contrast-enhanced CT is more common than MRI in many regions. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to construct and validate a radiomics model based on contrast-enhanced CT to predict the GPC3 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma. METHODS: This retrospective study included 141 (training cohort: n = 100; validation cohort: n = 41) pathologically confirmed HCC patients. Radiomics features were extracted from the Artery Phase (AP) images of contrast-enhanced CT. Logistic regression with the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regularization was used to select features to construct radiomics score (Rad-score). A final combined model, including the Rad-score of the selected features and clinical risk factors, was established. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, Delong test, and Decision Curve Analysis (DCA) were used to assess the predictive performance of the clinical and radiomics models. RESULTS: 5 features were selected to construct the AP radiomics model of contrast-enhanced CT. The radiomics model of AP from contrast-enhanced CT was superior to the clinical model of AFP in training cohorts (P < 0.001), but not superior to the clinical model in validation cohorts (P = 0.151). The combined model (AUC = 0.867 vs. 0.895), including AP Rad-score and serum Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) levels, improved the predictive performance more than the AFP model (AUC = 0.651 vs. 0.718) in the training and validation cohorts. The combined model, with a higher decision curve indicating more net benefit, exhibited a better predictive performance than the AP radiomics model. DCA revealed that at a range threshold probability approximately above 60%, the combined model added more net benefit compared to the AP radiomics model of contrastenhanced CT. CONCLUSION: A combined model including AP Rad-score and serum AFP levels based on contrast-enhanced CT could preoperatively predict GPC3-positive expression in HCC.

Mouse auditory cortex is composed of six sub-fields: primary auditory field (AI), secondary auditory field (AII), anterior auditory field (AAF), insular auditory field (IAF), ultrasonic field (UF) and dorsoposterior field (DP). Previous studies have examined thalamo-cortical connections in the mice auditory system and learned that AI, AAF, and IAF receive inputs from the ventral division of the medial geniculate body (MGB). However, the functional and thalamo-cortical connections between nonprimary auditory cortex (AII, UF, and DP) is unclear. In this study, we examined the locations of neurons projecting to these three cortical sub-fields in the MGB, and addressed the question whether these cortical sub-fields receive inputs from different subsets of MGB neurons or common. To examine the distributions of projecting neurons in the MGB, retrograde tracers were injected into the AII, UF, DP, after identifying these areas by the method of Optical Imaging. Our results indicated that neuron cells which in ventral part of dorsal MGB (MGd) and that of ventral MGB (MGv) projecting to UF and AII with less overlap. And DP only received neuron projecting from MGd. Interestingly, these three cortical areas received input from distinct part of MGd and MGv in an independent manner. Based on our foundings these three auditory cortical sub-fields in mice may independently process auditory information.

Organic materials containing humic acids (HAs) play important roles in regulating the bioavailability of cadmium (Cd) in soils and thus its accumulation in crops. The effects of the two active components of HAs, humic acid (HA) and fulvic acid (FA), in organic materials and their different ratios (HA/FA) on Cd uptake and accumulation in rice were investigated using a field plot experiment, and their relationships with the Cd fractions and availability in paddy soil as influenced by the use of these organic materials were analyzed in combination with the fractionation method of chemical continuous extraction. The results showed that the effects of HAs on Cd availability in soil and Cd accumulation in rice grains were controlled by the ratios of the active components in the organic materials. The treatments with an HA/FA ratio ≥ 4/6 had a passivating effect on soil Cd, resulting in a significant reduction in Cd availability. Compared with that in the control without the application of HAs (CK), rice grain Cd concentration was reduced by 15.2%-33.3%, whereas those with an HA/FA ratio ≤ 2/8 activated Cd in soil, and the available Cd content was significantly increased. Compared with that in CK, rice grain Cd concentration was increased by 24.2%-42.4%. The ratios of HA/FA in HAs affected the morphological transformation of soil Cd. Compared with the CK treatment, the treatments with ratios of HA/FA ≥ 4/6 promoted the transformation of soil Cd from the exchangeable form (EX-Cd) with high activity to the carbonate bound form (CA-Cd) and Fe and Mn oxide-bound forms (FM-Cd) with low activity, whereas those with ratios of HA/FA ≤ 2/8 showed the opposite effects. The effects of HA and FA on soil pH and available sulfur concentration differed. Soil pH had a significant positive correlation with HA addition but a negative correlation with FA addition, and soil available sulfur content had a significant positive correlation with FA addition at the rice tillering stage. Therefore, to ensure the quality and safety of rice, organic materials with an HA/FA ratio ≥ 4/6 should be selected. The results provided a scientific basis for the directed utilization of organic materials containing HAs.
