Purpose: The aim of our study was to explore the relation between serum levels of non-enzymatic antioxidants, thyroid function with the risk of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in depressed adolescents. Patients and Methods: We retrospected the electronic records of 454 hospitalized patients aged 13-17 years old with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (239 patients with NSSI and 215 subjects without NSSI), and collected their demographic and clinical information, including serum levels of total bilirubin (Tbil), uric acid (UA), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Results: The incidence of NSSI was 52.6% among depressed adolescents aged 13-17, 57.1% in female and 38.5% in male. After using the propensity scoring method to exclude the influence of age between the two groups, it was found that patients with NSSI showed lower levels of Tbil (P=0.046) and UA (P=0.015) compared with those without NSSI. Logistic regression results showed that serum UA was associated with NSSI behavior in female patients (OR=0.995, 95% CI: 0.991-0.999, P=0.014), and TSH was associated with NSSI in male participants (OR=0.499, 95% CI: 0.267-0.932, P=0.029). Conclusion: Female and male may have different pathological mechanisms of NSSI. NSSI is more likely to be related to antioxidant reaction in female adolescent patients, while more likely to be related to thyroid function in male depressed adolescent patients.

BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with Silibinin in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are still inconclusive. This meta-analysis intends to evaluation to explore the clinical efficacy and quality assessment of traditional Chinese medicine in combination with Silymarin in the treatment of NAFLD, aiming to aims to provide evidence-based data analysis for researchers and clinical practitioners involved in TCM research for NAFLD, with the hope of facilitating wider adoption and application. METHODS: In this meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CQVIP and CBM databases from the establishment of the databases to Oct 2023. The study proposed to include studies that reported combination of TCM with Silibinin and Silibinin alone in the treatment of NAFLD, excluding studies for which full text was not available or for which data extraction was not possible; studies using animal studies; reviews and systematic reviews. All data were processed by STATA15.1 statistical software. RESULTS: 16 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this meta-analysis. The sample size ranged from 48 to 120, with a total of 1335 patients, including 669 in the Combined treatment group and 384 in the Silibinin group. The findings indicated that the total effective rate of combined treatment group was significantly higher than that of Silibinin alone. Levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) of combined treatment group were all significantly lower than that of western medicine alone. Additionally, after treating NAFLD with a combination of TCM and Silibinin, the TCM syndrome score were significantly lower than those observed with Silibinin alone. CONCLUSION: Traditional Chinese medicine in conjunction with Silibinin capsules has shown significant efficacy in the treatment of NAFLD, improving clinical symptoms, blood lipid levels, and liver function. Furthermore, it is essential to engage in multi-omics research, investigate iron death, and explore the gut microbiota as potential observational indicators for the diagnosis and inclusion criteria. Conducting more high-quality clinical experiments is necessary to further validate these findings.

OBJECTIVE: Radiomics can reflect the heterogeneity within the focus. We aim to explore whether radiomics can predict recurrent intracerebral hemorrhage (RICH) and develop an online dynamic nomogram to predict it. METHODS: This retrospective study collected the clinical and radiomics features of patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage seen in our hospital from October 2013 to October 2016. We used the minimum redundancy maximum relevancy and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator methods to screen radiomics features and calculate the Rad-score. We use the univariate and multivariate analyses to screen clinical predictors. Optimal clinical features and Rad-score were used to construct different logistics regression models called the clinical model, radiomics model, and combined-logistic regression model. DeLong testing was performed to compare performance among different models. The model with the best predictive performance was used to construct an online dynamic nomogram. RESULTS: Overall, 304 patients with intracerebral hemorrhage were enrolled in this study. Fourteen radiomics features were selected to calculate the Rad-score. The patients with RICH had a significantly higher Rad-score than those without (0.5 vs. -0.8; P< 0.001). The predictive performance of the combined-logistic regression model with Rad-score was better than that of the clinical model for both the training (area under the receiver operating curve, 0.81 vs. 0.71; P = 0.02) and testing (area under the receiver operating curve, 0.65 vs. 0.58; P = 0.04) cohorts statistically. CONCLUSIONS: Radiomics features were determined related to RICH. Adding Rad-score into conventional clinical models significantly improves the prediction efficiency. We developed an online dynamic nomogram to accurately and conveniently evaluate RICH.

Objective: Post-stroke hyperglycemia as a common phenomenon is associated with unfavorable outcomes. Focusing on admission hyperglycemia, other markers of dysglycemia were overlooked. This study aimed to explore the contribution of acute phase blood glucose levels in combination with other radiological signs to the prognostication of functional outcomes in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH). Methods: Consecutive patients with sICH with at least five random plasma glucose measurements and complete radiological data during hospitalization were included. We calculated the average, maximum, minimum, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation of blood glucose levels for each patient. Radiological data, including island, black hole, blend, and satellite signs were collected. Functional outcomes were evaluated using the Barthel index. Unfavorable outcomes were defined as a Barthel index score ≤ 60. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Results: Two hundred and thirty-eight patients (mean age 58.5, 163 men and 75 women) were included, and 71 had a history of diabetes. Unfavorable outcomes occurred in 107 patients (45.0%) at 3 months. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that maximum blood glucose levels (odds ratio, 1.256; 95% confidence interval, 1.124‒1.404; p < 0.001) and island sign (odds ratio, 2.701; 95% confidence interval, 1.322‒5.521; p = 0.006) were independent predictors of unfavorable outcomes in the nondiabetic group. Meanwhile, patients without diabetes who experienced hematoma expansion had higher average (p = 0.036) and maximum blood glucose levels (p = 0.014). Interpretation: Maximum blood glucose levels and island sign were independently associated with unfavorable outcomes in patients without diabetes, whereas no glycemic variability indices were associated with unfavorable outcomes. Glucose levels influenced hematoma expansion and functional outcomes, particularly in patients without diabetes with sICH. Thus, clinical management of blood glucose levels should be strengthened for patients with sICH with or without a history of diabetes.

Neuroimaging studies have revealed abnormal brain activities in depressed teenagers who engage in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). We used resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) microstate analysis, which indicates the brief overlap of brain network activation for exploring the characteristics of large-scale cortical activities in depressed adolescents engaged with NSSI to clarify the underlying temporal mechanism. A modified k-means cluster algorithm was used to segment 64-channel resting-state EEG data into microstates. Data from 27 healthy adolescents, 37 adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD), and 53 adolescents with both MDD and NSSI were examined in this study. The resting-state microstate parameters were compared among groups using the one-way ANOVA and Spearman correlation. Then the associations between significantly different microstate parameters and the depressive severity and self-harming data in the patient groups were further analyzed. The MDD group had higher contribution (p < 0.01), occurrence (p < 0.01) of microstate A, and higher microstate E→A transition (p < 0.05) than the HC and the NSSI group. The MDD group showed a distinctly longer duration (p < 0.05) of microstate A and microstate A→C transition than the HC. The transition probability from B to C was increased in the NSSI group compared to the HC. In the MDD group, the HAMD correlated with the duration of microstate A (Spearman's rho = 0.34, p = 0.044), as the PHQ-9 correlated with its occurrence (Spearman's rho = 0.37, p = 0.028). This research revealed that whereas depressive adolescents with NSSI and MDD displayed similar patterns with healthy controls in EEG microstate, the MDD group did not. Additionally, the non-random transition from microstate E→A may protect against recent self-harm in adolescents with MDD.

Microstates are analogous to characters in a language, and short fragments consisting of several microstates (k-mers) are analogous to words. We aimed to investigate whether microstate k-mers could be used as neurophysiological biomarkers to differentiate between depressed patients and normal controls. We utilized a bag-of-words model to process microstate sequences, using k-mers with a k range of 1-10 as terms, and the term frequency (TF) with or without inverse-document-frequency (IDF) as features. We performed nested cross-validation on Dataset 1 (27 patients and 26 controls) and Dataset 2 (34 patients and 30 controls) separately and then trained on one dataset and tested on the other. The best area under the curve (AUC) of 81.5% was achieved for the model with L1 regularization using the TF of 4-mers as features in Dataset 1, and the best AUC of 88.9% was achieved for the model with L1 regularization using the TF of 9-mers as features in Dataset 2. When Dataset 1 was used as the training set, the best AUC of predicting Dataset 2 was 74.1% for the model with L2 regularization using the TF-IDF of 9-mers as features, while the best AUC of predicting Dataset 1 was 70.2% for the model with L1 regularization using the TF of 8-mers as features. Our study provided novel insights into the potential of microstate k-mers as neurophysiological biomarkers for individual-level classification of depression. These may facilitate further exploration of microstate sequences using natural language processing techniques.

The Project Optimus initiative by the FDA's Oncology Center of Excellence is widely viewed as a groundbreaking effort to change the status quo of conventional dose-finding strategies in oncology. Unlike in other therapeutic areas where multiple doses are evaluated thoroughly in dose ranging studies, early-phase oncology dose-finding studies are characterized by the practice of identifying a single dose, such as the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) or the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D). Following the spirit of Project Optimus, we propose an Multi-Arm Two-Stage (MATS) design for proof-of-concept (PoC) and dose optimization that allows the evaluation of two selected doses from a dose-escalation trial. The design assesses the higher dose first across multiple indications in the first stage, and adaptively enters the second stage for an indication if the higher dose exhibits promising anti-tumor activities. In the second stage, a randomized comparison between the higher and lower doses is conducted to achieve PoC and dose optimization. A Bayesian hierarchical model governs the statistical inference and decision making by borrowing information across doses, indications, and stages. Our simulation studies show that the proposed MATS design yield desirable performance. An R Shiny application has been developed and made available at https://matsdesign.shinyapps.io/mats/.

Background: This study aimed to objectively evaluate the severity of impulsivity [behavior inhibitory control (BIC) impairment] among adolescents with depression. In particular, those involved in non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors, compared with those engaged in suicidal behaviors and adolescents without any self-injury behavior, using event-related potentials (ERPs) and event-related spectral perturbation (ERSP) within the two-choice oddball paradigm. Methods: Participants with a current diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) engaged in repetitive NSSI for five or more days in the past year (n = 53) or having a history of at least one prior complete suicidal behavior (n = 31) were recruited in the self-injury group. Those without self-injury behavior were recruited in the MDD group (n = 40). They completed self-report scales and a computer-based two-choice oddball paradigm during which a continuous electroencephalogram was recorded. The difference waves in P3d were derived from the deviant minus standard wave, and the target index was the difference between the two conditions. We focused on latency and amplitude, and time-frequency analyses were conducted in addition to the conventional index. Results: Participants with self-injury, compared to those with depression but without self-injury, exhibited specific deficits in BIC impairment, showing a significantly larger amplitude. Specifically, the NSSI group showed the highest value in amplitude and theta power, and suicidal behavior showed a high value in amplitude but the lowest value in theta power. These results may potentially predict the onset of suicide following repetitive NSSI. Conclusion: These findings contribute to substantial progress in exploring neuro-electrophysiological evidence of self-injury behaviors. Furthermore, the difference between the NSSI and suicide groups might be the direction of prediction of suicidality.

Background: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a common mental health threat in adolescents, peaking in adolescence with a lifetime prevalence of ~17%-60%, making it a high-risk risk factor for suicide. In this study, we compared changes in microstate parameters in depressed adolescents with NSSI, depressed adolescents, and healthy adolescents during exposure to negative emotional stimuli, and further explored the improvement of clinical symptoms and the effect of microstate parameters of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in depressed adolescents with NSSI, and more evidence was provided for potential mechanisms and treatment optimization for the occurrence of NSSI behaviors in adolescents. Methods: Sixty-six patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) exhibiting NSSI behavior (MDD + NSSI group), 52 patients with MDD (MDD group), and 20 healthy subjects (HC group) were recruited to perform neutral and negative emotional stimulation task. The age range of all subjects was 12-17 years. All participants completed the Hamilton Depression Scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, the Ottawa Self-Injury Scale and a self-administered questionnaire to collect demographic information. We provided two different treatments to 66 MDD adolescents with NSSI; 31 patients received medication and completed post-treatment scale assessments and EEG acquisitions, and 21 patients received medication combined with rTMS and completed post-treatment scale assessments and EEG acquisitions. Multichannel EEG was recorded continuously from 64 scalp electrodes using the Curry 8 system. EEG signal preprocessing and analysis was performed offline, using the EEGLAB toolbox in MATLAB. Use the Microstate Analysis Toolbox in EEGLAB for segmentation and computation of microstates, and calculate a topographic map of the microstate segmentation of the EEG signal for a single subject in each dataset, and four parameters were obtained for each microstate classification: global explained variance (GEV), mean duration (Duration), average number of occurrences per second (Occurrence), and average percentage of total analysis time occupied (Coverage), which were then statistically analyzed. Results: Our results indicate that MDD adolescents with NSSI exhibit abnormalities in MS 3, MS 4, and MS 6 parameters when exposed to negative emotional stimuli compared to MDD adolescents and healthy adolescents. The results also showed that medication combined with rTMS treatment improved depressive symptoms and NSSI performance more significantly in MDD adolescents with NSSI compared to medication treatment, and affected MS 1, MS 2, and MS 4 parameters in MDD adolescents with NSSI, providing microstate evidence for the moderating effect of rTMS. Conclusion: MDD adolescents with NSSI showed abnormal changes in several microstate parameters when receiving negative emotional stimuli, and compared to those not receiving rTMS treatment, MDD adolescents with NSSI treated with rTMS showed more significant improvements in depressive symptoms and NSSI performance, as well as improvements in EEG microstate abnormalities.

Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a serious risk behavior in adolescents and is a high risk factor for suicide, while negative emotions can lead to increased NSSI behaviors. In this study, we investigated the altered behavioral performance and neural reactivity of adolescents with NSSI by using a two-choice oddball paradigm when exposed to negative emotional stimuli, and analyzed the brain lateralization effect. Our data indicated that adolescents with NSSI exhibit more pronounced N250, P300, and LPP components during negative emotional face stimulation, as evidenced by a smaller N250 wave amplitude, larger P300 wave amplitude, steeper LPP waveform, and faster fallback baseline; and the presence of brain lateralization responses in both the N250 component and the LPP component. These results suggested that adolescents with NSSI showed significant alterations in cognitive EEG components associated with emotional processing during negative emotional face stimulation, particularly in EEG components representing inhibitory control, and there was a lateralization effect on emotional processing in the brain, with different processing stages and different dominance of the left and right brain.

OBJECTIVES: Childhood traumatic experiences greatly influenced the brain network activities of patients with depression, and there is an urgent need to explore the temporal dynamics for these changes. This study aims to investigate the abnormalities of resting-state electroencephalogram (EEG) microstates in eye-open state of depressed adolescents and to explore the correlations between their EEG microstates and the childhood traumatic experience. METHODS: Using resting-state EEG microstate analysis, we explored the temporal dynamics of brain activity in patients with adolescent depression. This study selected 66 adolescents with depression as a patient group, and 27 healthy adolescents as a healthy control group. A modified k-means clustering algorithm was used to classify the 64-channel resting-state EEG data into different microstates. Independent sample t-tests were used to compare the microstate parameters between the 2 groups and further assciations between these parameters and childhood traumatic experience in patients were explored via using Spearman correlation. RESULTS: In this study, significant differences were observed in the occurrence and transition probabilities of EEG microstates between the healthy control and the patient group. Notably, there was a statistically significant difference (P<0.05) in the occurrence of microstate A across 2 groups, exhibiting a negative correlation with the emotional abuse component within the childhood trauma scores (Spearman's rho=-0.31, P=0.013). Furthermore, patient-specific, non-random transitions from microstate B to A (Spearman's rho=-0.30, P=0.015) and C to A (Spearman's rho=-0.31, P=0.013) were inversely associated with the scores of emotional abuse factors from childhood trauma in the patient group, showing statistically significant differences when comparing to the healthy controls (P<0.05). Upon stratification into quartiles based on the emotional abuse factor scores, the occurrence of microstate A, as well as the transition rates from microstates B to A and C to A, retained statistical significance following adjustment for multiple comparisons (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The abnormal temporal dynamics in brain networks of adolescents with depression are linked to childhood emotional abuse. Those who have suffered severe emotional abuse may show greater impairments in the brain's visual and central executive networks. EEG microstate analysis could be a potential tool for detecting adolescent depression with severe childhood trauma.

Background: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) may be a type of addiction, that is characterized by cue reactivity. We aimed to explore the behavioral performance and neural reactivity during exposure to self-injury cues in adolescents with NSSI and major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: Eighteen MDD patients, 18 MDD patients with NSSI, and 19 healthy controls (HC) were recruited to perform a two-choice oddball paradigm. All subjects were 12-18 years old. Neutral cues and self-injury related cues separately served as deviant stimuli. Difference waves in N2 and P3 (N2d and P3d) were derived from deviant waves minus standard waves. Accuracy cost and reaction time (RT) cost were used as behavioral indexes, while the N2d and P3d were used as electrophysiological indexes; the N2d reflects early conflict detection, and the P3d reflects the process of response inhibition. Results: No significant main effects of group or cue or an effect of their interaction were observed on accuracy cost and P3d latency. For RT cost, N2d amplitude, and N2d latency, there was a significant main effect of cue. For P3d amplitude, there was a significant main effect of cue and a significant group × cue interaction. In the NSSI group, the P3d amplitude with self-injury cues was significantly larger than that with neutral cues. However, there was no such effect in the MDD and HC groups. Conclusions: Adolescents with NSSI showed altered neural reactivity during exposure to self-injury cue. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm our results.

Bilayer solar evaporator combines high photothermal conversion capacity and low heat loss, has become the new darling in interfacial solar steam generation (ISSG). However, the bilayer structure generally achieved by introducing a photothermal coating on the substrate is not conducive to long-term use due to the poor stability of coating. Herein, a fully biomass-based bilayer evaporator is all-in-one designed, using chitosan (CS) as building blocks and CS derived N, S - doped porous carbon (NSPC) as fillers via pre-freezing and freeze-drying. This facile method could realise the quantitative addition of photothermal materials and controllably regulate the structure of the bilayer evaporator, making the structural optimisation readily available. The optimised evaporator exhibits a remarkable evaporation rate of 2.51 kg m-2h-1. After 1000 times of pressing, it still maintains at 2.42 kg m-2h-1. Additionally, the evaporator displays outstanding long-lasting stability, excellent salt-resistant and degradability. More importantly, a solar desalination device is fabricated for harvesting freshwater outdoor. The daily water production per unit area (4.55 kg) meets the consumption of two adults. This work provides a controllable synthesis strategy of bilayer evaporators for handling global freshwater shortages.

BACKGROUND This population study aimed to investigate the demographic and clinical characteristics and outcome of cases of coronavirus disease 2019 in Lu'an City, China between January 22, 2020 and February 18, 2020 identified from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention (CISDCP). MATERIAL AND METHODS Laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the CISDCP were included in this study. The distribution of cases, exposure history, clustered epidemic situation, and clinical manifestations, disease severity, and key time nodes were analyzed. Once the throat swab or sputum sample was positive for SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction testing as confirmed cases. RESULTS There were 69 cases of COVID-19 that were confirmed between January 22 and February 18, 2020 reported. The onset time was concentrated on January 25, 2020 solstice to February 6, 2020 (71.0%), and the reporting dates were concentrated on January 31, 2020 and February 9, 2020 (69.6%). Nineteen cases (27.5%) had a history of sojourn in Hubei Province, and none of the cases reported after February 6, 2020 had a history of exposure in Hubei Province. There were 14 cluster outbreaks, and human-to-human transmission was the most common (78.6%). The most common symptoms were fever (56.5%), cough (37.7%), and self-conscious discomfort (14.5%). Besides, there were 9 severe cases (13.0%). CONCLUSIONS The epidemic prevention and control in Lu'an City has achieved phased results. Yet, new strict control measures need to be implemented to prevent a further outbreak, especially for those who will return to Lu'an City.

Clinicians have been faced with the challenge of differentiating between severe acute respiratory syndrome associated coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infected pneumonia (NCP) and influenza A infected pneumonia (IAP), a seasonal disease that coincided with the outbreak. We aim to develop a machine-learning algorithm based on radiomics to distinguish NCP from IAP by texture analysis based on computed tomography (CT) imaging. Forty-one NCP and 37 IAP patients admitted from January to February 6, 2019 admitted to two hospitals in Wenzhou, China. All patients had undergone chest CT examination and blood routine tests prior to receiving medical treatment. NCP was diagnosed by real-time RT-PCR assays. Eight of 56 radiomic features extracted by LIFEx were selected by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression to develop a radiomics score and subsequently constructed into a nomogram to predict NCP with area under the operating characteristics curve of 0.87 (95% confidence interval: 0.77-0.93). The nomogram also showed excellent calibration with Hosmer-Lemeshow test yielding a nonsignificant statistic (P = .904). The novel nomogram may efficiently distinguish between NCP and IAP patients. The nomogram may be incorporated to existing diagnostic algorithm to effectively stratify suspected patients for SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted with the intent to develop and validate a radiomic model capable of predicting intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) in patients with intrahepatic lithiasis (IHL) complicated by imagologically diagnosed mass (IM). METHODS: A radiomic model was developed in a training cohort of 96 patients with IHL-IM from January 2005 to July 2019. Radiomic characteristics were obtained from arterial-phase computed tomography (CT) scans. The radiomic score (rad-score), based on radiomic features, was built by logistic regression after using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method. The rad-score and other independent predictors were incorporated into a novel comprehensive model. The performance of the Model was determined by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness. This model was externally validated in 35 consecutive patients. RESULTS: The rad-score was able to discriminate ICC from IHL in both the training group (AUC 0.829, sensitivity 0.868, specificity 0.635, and accuracy 0.723) and the validation group (AUC 0.879, sensitivity 0.824, specificity 0.778, and accuracy 0.800). Furthermore, the comprehensive model that combined rad-score and clinical features was great in predicting IHL-ICC (AUC 0.902, sensitivity 0.771, specificity 0.923, and accuracy 0.862). CONCLUSIONS: The radiomic-based model holds promise as a novel and accurate tool for predicting IHL-ICC, which can identify lesions in IHL timely for hepatectomy or avoid unnecessary surgical resection.

This study aims to investigate the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission rate in HIV serodiscordant couples, in addition to the relevant influencing factors. From January 1999 to August 2016, patients with HIV/AIDS (index cases) along with their fixed partners were registered and monitored to determine the rate of HIV transmission between couples, as well as relevant influencing factors. A total of 231 HIV-positive couples were investigated, of these, 45-negative (19.48%) partners were infected with HIV via sexual transmission prior to diagnosis of the first case detected in couples. After diagnosis, the transmission rate between spouses was 0.39 per 100 person-years (2/507.7), and the cumulative transmission rate was 1.08% (2/186), which was significantly lower than the transmission rate before diagnosis (χ2 = 35.714, P < 0.001). Among the 119 HIV/AIDS patients who received antiretroviral therapy (ART), the transmission rate was 0 (0/119), whereas the transmission rate was 2.99% (2/67) in HIV/AIDS patients who did not receive ART. In addition, HIV transmission rate in serodiscordant couples was high prior to diagnosis of the index case. However, following diagnosis, the transmission rate was reduced, and the risk of transmission in the index case with antiviral treatment was null. Therefore, a prompt intervention in HIV discordant couples with ART of index case is vital to reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
