RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between internet addiction and violence tendency in adolescent students and the factors affecting violence tendency. METHODS: The research was conducted on 2,648 middle school students in Turkey. A socio-demographic form, the Young Internet Addiction Scale, and the Violence Tendency Scale were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: It was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between the Young Internet Addiction Scale and the Violence Tendency Scale. Age has a positive effect on violence tendency levels. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the variables of age and internet addiction contribute to the occurrence of violence tendency. Psychiatric nurses should plan trainings and evaluate its effectiveness to raise awareness.

OBJECTIVE: Burnout syndrome can have a negative impact on people who work in occupations that require close interaction with others, contributing to a decline in their psychological well-being. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Group Interpersonal Therapy (IPT-G) in reducing burnout among care workers for older adults in a Turkish long-term care facility. METHODS: The study employed a pretest-post-test randomised experimental design. Fifty care workers scoring 27 or above on emotional exhaustion and 10 or above on depersonalisation subscales of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were randomly assigned to the intervention or control group for 8 weeks. The study utilised the World Health Organization (WHO) Group Interpersonal Therapy for Depression manual as a guide. The post-test was conducted immediately after the last session of the intervention. RESULTS: In comparing pre- and post-test scores of the intervention group, a statistically significant difference was found in overall burnout scores (pretest M = 74.10, post-test M = 63.08, p < 0.001; d = 1.12). Additionally, emotional exhaustion scores (pretest M = 30.99, post-test M = 24.89, p < 0.001; d = 1.11) and depersonalisation scores (pretest M = 12.76, post-test M = 8.53, p < 0.001; d = 1.69) exhibited significant differences. However, no significant difference was observed in personal accomplishment scores (p > 0.05). The control group had no significant differences concerning the overall burnout scores and all three subscales (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The IPT-G used in this study effectively decreased burnout among care workers in a long-term care facility in Türkiye. In addition, the participants reported high satisfaction with the IPT-G program. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Our results support the usefulness of the IPT-G program for care workers in long-term care facilities considering adding it to their occupational health management. This research aimed to determine whether IPT-G successfully decreased care worker burnout. Future research focusing on various types of healthcare workers in long-term care facilities and examining factors such as burnout, job satisfaction and self-efficacy could provide more information on the effects of IPT-G.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness stress training given to nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic period on the quality of work-life and motivation of nurses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research was carried out as a pre-test and post-test control group quasi-experimental model from nurses working in a university hospital in eastern Turkey between September 2021 and December 2021. The study population consisted of 850 nurses working in the hospital. The sample consisted of 42 nurses (21 experimental, 21 control group) who agreed to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria. In the study, selection bias was controlled by randomized assignment and concealing randomization. The nurses' names were grouped alphabetically and randomized using the research randomizer program. Within the scope of the research, the mindfulness Stress Training Program was applied to the nurses in the experimental group. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Nurse WorkLife Quality Scale, and Nurse Work Motivation Scale. Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon marking tests were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: It was determined that the total score of the work motivation scale of the nurses in the experimental group was 48.42 ± 5.39 before the training, 59.52 ± 6.52 after the training, and the total score of the nurse work-life quality scale was 81.00 ± 12.46 before the intervention and 91.08 ± 11.06 after the intervention. The post-test scores of the control and experimental groups were statistically significant (P < .05). CONCLUSION: It was found that the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program was effective in nurses' work motivation and quality of work-life during the pandemic period.

PURPOSE: High work-family conflict affects nurses' physical, mental and psychological health and reduces their job satisfaction and performance. This study was conducted to determine the effect of work stress experienced by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic on family life and the factors affecting work stress and work-family conflict. METHOD: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted on 820 nurses who agreed to participate in the research working in a hospital serving only patients with confirmed COVID-19 in a province in eastern Turkey. RESULTS: It was found that the average PJSS score of the nurses included in the study was 3.26 ± 0.56; the average WAFCS score was 3.00 ± 0.81. It was found that there was a moderately positive, statistically significant relationship between the PJSS and WAFCS average scores for the nurses, and the impact of work stress on the levels of work-family conflict was 28 % (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: It was determined that the work stress levels of the nurses included in the study were at a level that could threaten their health, the conflict levels in work-family life were high, and the conflict levels in work and family life increased as the levels of work stress increased.

The purpose of the study was to measure the impact of psychological hardiness on the intolerance of uncertainty (IOU) among university students during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A cross-sectional correlational research design was used in the study, where participants were selected by convenience sampling. The data was collected from 1217 undergraduate students from a university in Turkey through web-based questionnaires. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale assessed data, including intolerance of uncertainty. In addition, the Personal Views Survey III-R was used to measure students' psychological hardiness. The results indicated that Turkish undergraduate students overall had high IOU and above-average psychological hardiness. Psychological hardiness was negatively correlated with IOU. Students losing a loved one because of COVID-19 had increased intolerance to uncertainty and lower psychological hardiness. Psychological hardiness was a powerful predictor of IOU. These findings show the need to implement hardiness-training programs for undergraduate students to increase their tolerance to uncertainty and reduce the effect of grief.
