RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare systemic conditions at the time of diagnosis between patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). DESIGN: This study included patients diagnosed with CRVO or BRVO between February 2009 and August 2017 at three branch hospitals of Hallym University Medical Center. Demographic and anthropometric variables, systemic comorbidity profiles, and laboratory findings at diagnosis were collected from a clinical data warehouse system, and were compared between the CRVO and BRVO groups. RESULT: Four hundred and seventeen patients with CRVO and 1,511 patients with BRVO were included. The mean age was 61.8 ± 13.9 years, which was comparable between two groups (P = .332). Female proportion was higher in the BRVO group (55.0%) than in the CRVO group (48.0%; P = .013). Diabetes mellitus (P = .017) and chronic kidney disease (P = .004) were more prevalent in the CRVO group. Serum homocysteine level was abnormally high in 23.5% of CRVO patients and in 8.4% of BRVO patients (P < .001). Blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels were abnormally elevated in more subjects with CRVO (P = .002). CONCLUSION: CRVO is associated with higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease, as well as with elevated serum homocysteine level. These results might suggest a difference between the pathophysiologies of CRVO and BRVO.

RESUMO

Macular diseases cause vision loss, as the macula is the functional center for vision. In this study we assessed optical quality in eyes with macular diseases and evaluated the effectiveness of the Optical Quality Analysis System (OQAS) to detect macular diseases. We analyzed 88 eyes of 88 patients with macular diseases (51 men and 37 women; mean age: 65.24 ± 12.96 years) and 43 eyes of 43 control subjects (11 men and 32 women; mean age: 54.70 ± 15.03 years). The macular diseases included age-related macular disease (n = 62), diabetic macular edema (n = 19), and retinal vein occlusion (n = 7). We measured the objective scattering index (OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF), Strehl ratio, and predicted visual acuities (PVAs) at 100, 20, and 10% contrast levels in both groups using OQAS. We measured the retinal thickness in the macular disease group on optical coherence tomography. The macular disease and control groups significantly differed in OSI, MTF, Strehl ratio, and PVAs at 20 and 10% contrast levels (p < 0.05). In the macular disease group, retinal thickness correlated with OSI (r = 0.370, p < 0.001) and MTF (r = -0.264, p = 0.014). In conclusion, optical quality was worse in the patients with macular diseases compared to the control subjects, and retinal thickness affected optical quality. Therefore, the distortion of macular shape may contribute to vision disturbance in patients with macular diseases.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of orally administered grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) in patients with non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). METHODS: In this randomized (1:2:2), multicentre, double-blind trial, patients (n = 124; age: 40-78 years) were administered placebo, calcium dobesilate (CD; 750 mg/d), or GSPE (150 mg/d) orally for up to 12 months. All patients had retinal thickening with hard exudates (HEs) that met predefined criteria; the median best-corrected visual acuity was 0.8, as assessed using the Snellen visual acuity card. The main outcome measure was an improvement in HEs by at least 1 grade on a 10-grade severity scale. This was evaluated using fundus photography over 1 year. RESULTS: The rate of improvement in the HE severity was higher in the GSPE group than in the CD group. No statistically significant difference existed among the study groups in optical coherence tomography parameters, such as central subfield macular thickness and total macular volume (TMV). However, in the GSPE group, TMV after 9 months of treatment was significantly decreased compared with that at baseline. The GSPE group showed a significantly greater improvement in HE severity than did the placebo or CD group. Four cases in the GSPE group and 2 in the CD group were determined to have developed potential treatment-related adverse reactions, which were all gastrointestinal in nature. CONCLUSIONS: Oral GSPE therapy for 1 year improved HEs in patients with NPDR. The efficacy of GSPE for HEs was higher than that of oral CD in the study patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Limited data exist on real-world treatment patterns for diabetic macular edema (DME) in Korea. In this study, we investigated DME treatment patterns from 2009 to 2014 and the impact of baseline treatment on healthcare resource utilization and visual acuity (VA) outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort chart review of DME patients treated at 11 hospital ophthalmology clinics between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013 was conducted. We collected data on demographics, healthcare resource utilization (clinic visits, treatment visits, and visits for ocular investigations), distribution of DME treatments, and VA. RESULTS: Overall, 522 DME patients (men, 55.2%; mean age, 59 years; mean HbA1c [n = 209], 8.4%) with 842 DME eyes were evaluated. For all treatments, healthcare resource utilization was significantly higher during the first 6 months versus months 7-12, year 2, or year 3 (P ≤ 0.001), but was highest for patients whose first treatment was an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment (visits/quarter; anti-VEGF, 1.9; corticosteroids, 1.7; laser, 1.4). Use of macular laser therapy decreased (44% to 8%), whereas use of anti-VEGF injections increased (44% to 69%) during the study period. However, VA improvement was not commensurate with healthcare resource utilization of anti-VEGF treatment (mean VA gain, 2.7 letters). CONCLUSION: A trend toward increasing use of intravitreal anti-VEGF injections for DME treatment was observed in Korea. However, the frequency of dosing and monitoring was lower in clinical practice versus major clinical trials, which may have led to the less-than-favorable improvements in visual outcomes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A cataract is a common cause of vision impairment that requires surgery in older subjects. The Optical Quality Analysis System (OQAS, Visiometrics SL, Terrassa, Spain) assesses the optical quality of the eye in cataract patients. This study shows the role of the optical quality evaluation system for decision-making in cataract surgery. We investigated the clinical utility of the OQAS for decision-making in cataract surgery. METHODS: Sixty-seven eyes from 67 patients undergoing cataract surgery and 109 eyes from 109 control subjects were compared. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was measured. The objective scatter index (OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF), Strehl ratio, predicted visual acuity (PVA) 100%, PVA 20%, and PVA 10% were measured using the OQAS. The sensitivity and specificity of the different parameters were analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The main parameters measured were sensitivity and specificity. RESULTS: The BCVA, OSI, PVA 100%, PVA 20%, and PVA 10% were higher in the cataract group compared to those in the control group, while the MTF and Strehl ratios were lower (p <  0.001 for all). ROC analysis showed that the OSI had the largest area under the curve and that the sensitivity and specificity of the OSI were 83.9 and 84.6%, respectively, at the optimal cut-off point of 2.35. CONCLUSION: The MTF, OSI, Strehl ratio, PVA 100%, PVA 20% and PVA 10% may be useful parameters for preoperative decision-making in cataract surgery. The OSI appears to be the most effective parameter for this purpose.

RESUMO

ABSTRACTObjective:Our aim was to examine the prevalence, correlates, and association of depressive and anxiety disorders with quality of life (QoL) and such other outcomes as the need for psychosocial services in cancer patients. METHOD: A total of 400 patients participated in a multicenter survey involving five cancer centers located throughout Korea. The Short-Form Health Survey, the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory, the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer (MINI-MAC), and Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview were administered. RESULTS: The prevalence rates for depressive and anxiety disorders were 16 and 17.1%, respectively. Younger age and poor Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, and all physical symptoms, as well as helplessness/hopelessness, anxious preoccupation (AP), and cognitive avoidance (CA) on the MINI-MAC were found to be significantly related to depressive disorder (DD) in a univariate logistic regression analysis. Metastases, the symptoms of disturbed sleep, dry mouth, and numbness or tingling, as well as AP and CA were significantly correlated with anxiety disorder (AD) in the univariate analysis. In the multivariate analyses, only AP was significant for AD (odds ratio = 2.94, p < 0.001), while none reached statistical significance for DD. Psychiatric comorbidity status had a detrimental effect on various dimensions of QoL. Patients with DD or AD reported a significantly higher need for professional psychosocial services. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS: Given the substantial prevalence and pervasive impact of DD and AD on various aspects of QoL, its assessment and care should be integrated as a regular part of oncological care throughout the cancer continuum.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To report the development and validation of the National Cancer Center Psychological Symptom Inventory (NCC-PSI). METHODS: Psychometric properties of the NCC-PSI were examined by using multicenter surveys involving 400 patients with cancer in 5 cancer-treatment hospitals throughout Korea. Related measures including the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview were administered. RESULTS: Convergent validity was supported by NCC-PSI's significant associations with related measures. Known-group validity was proven with higher scores of helplessness/hopelessness and anxious preoccupation on the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer in the depression and anxiety diagnosis group, defined by the NCC-PSI. Cutoff scores for insomnia, anxiety, and depression were identified. Overall, the screening performance of the NCC-PSI was comparable to that of the distress thermometer and Patient Health Questionnare-2. CONCLUSIONS: The NCC-PSI represents a meaningful effort to develop a distress screening tool that addresses specific psychological symptoms common in cancer, which are tailored to the local oncology care system with varying degrees of psychosocial care resources.

RESUMO

This study investigated the effect of vitamin D supplementation in patients with dry eye syndrome (DES) refractory to conventional treatment with vitamin D deficiency. A total of 105 patients with DES refractory to conventional treatment and vitamin D deficiency that was treated with an intramuscular injection of cholecalciferol (200,000 IU). Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels were measured. Eye discomfort was assessed using ocular surface disease index (OSDI) and visual analogue pain score (VAS). Tear break-up time (TBUT), fluorescein staining score (FSS), eyelid margin hyperemia, and tear secretion test were measured before treatment, and 2, 6, and 10 weeks after vitamin D supplementation. Mean serum 25(OH)D level was 10.52 ± 4.61 ng/mL. TBUT, and tear secretion test showed an improvement at 2 and 6 weeks after vitamin D supplementation compared to pretreatment values (p < 0.05 for all, paired t-test). Eyelid margin hyperemia and the severity of symptoms showed improvement at 2, 6, and 10 weeks after vitamin D supplementation (p < 0.05 for all). Compared to pre-treatment values, FSS, OSDI and VAS were decreased at 2 weeks (p < 0.05 for all). In conclusion, vitamin D supplementation is effective and useful in the treatment of patients with DES refractory to conventional treatment and with vitamin D deficiency.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare oxidative stress status in the aqueous humor of highly myopic eyes and control eyes. METHODS: Aqueous humor samples were collected from 15 highly myopic eyes (high myopia group) and 23 cataractous eyes (control group) during cataract surgery. Central corneal thickness, corneal endothelial cell density, hexagonality of corneal endothelial cells, and cell area of corneal endothelial cells were measured using specular microscopy. Axial length was measured using ultrasound biometry. 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and malondialdehyde levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: 8-OHdG level was lower in the aqueous humor of myopic patients than in that of control group (p = 0.014) and was positively correlated with central corneal thickness and negatively correlated with axial length (r = 0.511, p = 0.02; r = -0.382, p < 0.001). There was no correlation between 8-OHdG level and corneal endothelial cell density, hexagonality, or cell area. Malondialdehyde level did not show any correlation with any parameters evaluated. CONCLUSIONS: 8-OHdG might be a sensitive biomarker for evaluating oxidative stress status in the eye. Oxidative stress level was lower in the aqueous humor of highly myopic eyes compared to that in control eyes, which indicates lower metabolic activity in these eyes.

RESUMO

This study investigated the baseline predictors of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central retinal thickness (CRT) at 6 months in patients with treatment-naïve branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). This multicenter, interventional case series included 208 BRVO and 123 CRVO patients with follow-up period of 6 months or more. Outcome measures of BCVA (logMAR) included absolute change from baseline and a gain or loss of ≥ 0.3 from baseline. Outcome measures of CRT included absolute change from baseline and a measurement of ≤ 250 µm or ≥ 400 µm at 6 months. Univariate and multiple regression analyses were done to find baseline predictors. For BRVO, younger age, worse baseline BCVA, and shorter duration of symptom were associated with more gain in BCVA. For CRVO, worse baseline BCVA was associated with more gain in BCVA. For CRT outcomes, higher baseline CRT predicted greater decrease at 6 months in both BRVO and CRVO. Younger age and better baseline BCVA were associated with an increased likelihood of measurement of a ≤ 250 µm outcome for BRVO and CRVO, respectively. For CRVO, smoking was associated with greater decrease from baseline and decreased likelihood of measurement of a CRT ≥ 400 µm at 6 months. In conclusion, several baseline factors including age, symptom duration, and baseline BCVA and CRT are associated with BCVA and CRT outcomes at 6 months, which may help to predict disease course for RVO patients.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of sulodexide for the treatment of hard exudates (HE) in non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). METHODS: This was a randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial involving 130 patients (65 for each group) who had mild-to-moderate NPDR with macular HE. Participants were given a daily dose of either 50 mg sulodexide or a matching dose of placebo orally for 12 months. Main outcome measure was an improvement in HE defined as a decrease in severity by at least two grades on a 10-grade severity scale. This was evaluated by fundus photography over 12-month period. RESULTS: The sulodexide group showed significantly greater improvement in HE severity than that shown by the placebo group (39.0 % vs. 19.3 %; chi square, P = 0.005). Logistic regression analysis yielded an odds ratio of 2.790 (95 % confidence interval, 1.155-6.743; P = 0.023) for the effect of treatment once adjustments were made for demographic, prognostic and disease confounders. Intention to treat and per-protocol analysis yielded similar results. Sulodexide's safety was comparable to that of the placebo. CONCLUSIONS: Oral sulodexide therapy over 12 months improved macular HE in patients with mild-to-moderate NPDR, without leading to detectable adverse events. The study protocol was registered on clinicaltrial.gov under identifier NCT01295775.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To determine the correlation between the duration of macular edema (ME) and visual outcomes among Korean patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). METHODS: Multicenter, interventional case series. Treatment-naive patients (n = 249) with branch or central RVO (BRVO/CRVO) and ME for <6 months were included. We assessed the correlation between the duration of ME and treatment outcomes including the mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution best-corrected visual acuity (logMAR BCVA) improvement, the proportion of patients achieving at least a 3-line gain in BCVA, and the mean reduction in central retinal thickness (CRT) at 6 months. RESULTS: One hundred and fifty-six patients with BRVO and 93 patients with CRVO were divided into five groups based on the duration of ME (<2, 2-4 weeks, 1-2, 2-3, 3-6 months); the mean baseline BCVA and CRT among the groups did not differ significantly. In BRVO, the mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) BCVA improvements in the groups were 0.51, 0.32, 0.17, 0.19, and 0.13, respectively (P = 0.002). The respective percentages of at least 3-line gains were 64, 53, 39, 38, and 21 % (P < 0.001). The BCVA didn't significantly improve in CRVO. The decrease in CRT was not correlated significantly with the duration of ME in either disease. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of BRVO as early as 2 weeks after onset of ME enhanced the visual outcome; there was no correlation in the patients with CRVO. This finding supports the current trend favoring early treatment to obtain better visual outcomes in patients with BRVO.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term intraocular pressure (IOP) changes after intravitreal injection of bevacizumab for age-related macular degeneration. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 83 eyes that received intravitreal injections of bevacizumab for age-related macular degeneration were enrolled. IOP measurements at baseline, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months, and at the last follow-up after injection were analyzed. On the basis of the median number of injections, the changes in IOP were compared. RESULTS: The mean number of injections was 3.71±1.62. There was no significantly higher elevation than baseline IOP (14.11±2.76 mm Hg) after multiple intravitreal injections of bevacizumab (P>0.05). In the group which had ≥4 injections, mean IOP measurements were not higher compared with the group which had <4 injections during the follow-up period (P>0.05). In the patients with preexisting glaucoma (3 eyes), there were no significant increases of IOP during the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: IOP elevation was not observed during the long-term follow-up period. In addition, the numbers of injection and preexisting glaucoma did not affect IOP changes.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To identify the clinical features, treatment outcomes, and prognostic factors of endogenous endophthalmitis in multiple tertiary referral centers of South Korea over a 6-year period. METHODS: The authors conducted a retrospective review of medical records of 57 eyes of 43 patients diagnosed with endogenous endophthalmitis from January 2005 to December 2011, which was referred to tertiary referral centers. RESULTS: Fifty-seven cases of 43 patients were followed for a mean of 18.7 months (range, 0.5-50 months). The common underlying diseases were diabetes mellitus (46.5%) and liver cirrhosis (20.93%). Liver abscess (39.5%) was the most common infection source. Among prognostic factors, the initial visual acuity was associated with favorable visual outcome significantly (P < 0.001). Endogeneous endophthalmitis with gram-negative bacteria had worse visual outcomes than gram-positive bacteria or fungus (P = 0.014). CONCLUSION: Similar to the findings of previous East Asian studies, this study showed that Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most common causative organism of endogenous endophthalmitis and liver abscess was the most common infection focus. Although endogenous endophthalmitis is generally associated with poor visual acuity outcomes, the prognosis depends mainly on the initial visual acuity and the pathogen.

RESUMO

We report a case of CMV corneal endotheliitis that was treated with intravitreal ganciclovir injection. A 56-year-old man who has suffered from uveitis was referred to our clinic due to corneal endothelial abnormality. Slit lamp examination showed a localized sectoral corneal edema and linear keratic precipitates along the boundary of edema. In spite of treatment with oral steroid and acyclovir, the disease progressed and two new coin-like lesions were developed. After topical ganciclovir and intavitreal injection of ganciclovir, the corneal lesions disappeared.

RESUMO

We investigated the demographic characteristics and risk factors of Korean patients with naÏve central or branch retinal vein occlusion (CRVO or BRVO). This study enrolled 41 clinical sites throughout Korea and included 557 consecutive patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) from May through November 2010. A total of 557 patients with new-onset RVO participated in this study. Two hundred and three (36.4%) patients were diagnosed with CRVO and 354 (63.6%) patients were diagnosed with BRVO. Comparisons between the two groups showed that the prevalence of diabetes mellitus was significantly higher in CRVO patients and hypertension was significantly higher in BRVO patients (P = 0.001 and 0.002, respectively). Poor baseline visual acuity was significantly associated with female and old age in BRVO patients (P = 0.002 and 0.013, respectively), whereas the wide intraretinal hemorrhage (CRVO, P = 0.029; BRVO, P < 0.001) and the macular ischemia (CRVO, P < 0.001; BRVO, P < 0.001) were associated with both groups. The study results show the clinical features of RVO in Korean patients. Hypertension is strongly associated with BRVO and diabetes mellitus is more strongly associated with CRVO in Korean patients with RVO. RESUMO

PURPOSE: To compare the aqueous humor levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in high myopic eyes and control eyes. METHODS: Aqueous humor samples were collected from 21 highly myopic eyes of 20 patients (high myopia group) and from 30 cataract eyes of 30 patients with no choroidal neovascularization (CNV) or other ocular or systemic diseases (control group). Of the 21 high myopic eyes, 13 had no complications secondary to high myopia (high myopia with no complications group), 3 had posterior staphyloma (high myopia with staphyloma group), and 5 had chorioretinal atrophy (high myopia with chorioretinal atrophy group). The aqueous humor levels of VEGF and PEDF were determined by using commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. RESULTS: Aqueous humor levels of VEGF were significantly lower in the high myopia group compared to that in the control group (p<0.001). VEGF levels decreased with an increase in the axial length (p<0.001). PEDF levels tended to be higher in the high myopia group compared to that in the control group; however, the difference was not significant. Three high myopia groups had significantly lower VEGF/PEDF ratios than the control group (p=0.000, 0.002, and 0.005). CONCLUSIONS: Aqueous humor levels of VEGF in the high myopia group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The differing levels of VEGF and PEDF in the high myopia and control groups suggest that high myopia disrupts the VEGF/PEDF balance in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Psychological distress is common in cancer patients, and the need to develop a system for assessing and managing distress is widely recognized. This project developed recommendations that are feasible for Korean cancer patients and the Korean healthcare system. METHODS: Based on the findings from a series of studies in the context of this project, we developed guidelines following the steps and parameters recommended by the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN). The Development Group consisted of individuals from several professions, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, a health policy expert, and a methodologist. Opinions from various healthcare providers, patients, and related societies were also reflected in the guidelines. RESULTS: The main recommendations for distress management in cancer patients were the following: (1) a concept of distress in Korean cancer patients, screening tools, management algorithms, and triage approaches was developed and (2) four symptom-specific guidelines with management algorithms were proposed for depression, anxiety, insomnia, and delirium. CONCLUSION: This is the first effort to develop recommendations for distress management in psycho-oncology in Korea. These guidelines offer standards for psychosocial care for cancer patients in Korea. We have made a significant step toward integrated cancer care that incorporates the psychosocial care of patients as an essential component of patient care in a Korean oncology context. This version will be updated constantly to keep up with emerging evidence from empirical research and clinical experience.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study is to assess the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms and associated factors in North Korean Defectors (NKDs). METHODS: One hundred forty-four NKDs (male: 20; female: 124; average age: 40.4±11.7 yrs.) completed the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale (CES-D). A stepwise logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate factors associated with the psychiatric symptoms of the participants. RESULTS: NKDs mainly reported somatization (42.4%) and depressive symptoms (38.9%). Female NKDs showed higher prevalence of somatization (p=0.001), anxiety (p=0.020), hostility (p=0.026) and psychoticism (p=0.022) than males. The presence of physical illness was strongly related to most psychiatric symptoms on the SCL-90-R including somatization (p<0.001), obsessive-compulsive symptoms (p=0.020), interpersonal sensitivity (p=0.031), depression (p<0.001), anxiety (p<0.001), hostility (p=0.011), paranoid ideation (p=0.015) and psychoticism (p<0.001). Younger age, unemployment, lower income, and longer duration of defection were found to be the risk factors of psychiatric symptoms. In regard to mental health service utilization, we found that most (83.3%) of the participants had not received any form of psychiatric help. CONCLUSION: Somatization and depression were the most prevalent psychiatric symptoms in NKDs. Our results suggest that psychiatric symptoms accompany certain sociodemographic and clinical characteristics that are associated with susceptibility to acculturation stressors. An understanding of these factors will be helpful providing appropriate mental health services to NKDs.

RESUMO

The current study aimed to investigate the interaction between the serotonin 1A receptor gene (HTR1A) C-1019G polymorphism and recent negative life stressors on depression in a Korean community sample. The HTR1A C-1019G polymorphism was genotyped in 416 community-dwelling Koreans (156 males, 260 females; 44.37 ± 14.67 years old). Lifetime and current major depressive episodes were diagnosed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV. The Center for Epidemiological Studies for Depression Scale (CES-D) was self-applied and face-to-face interviews investigating negative life stressors within the last 6 months were also performed. The results indicated that there were significant interactions between the C-1019G polymorphism and negative life stressors on CES-D scores (p = 0.02) as well as on current major depressive episodes (p = 0.002), but not on past major depressive episodes. G carriers alone had higher CES-D scores and more frequently experienced major depressive episodes after stressors. The interaction between the C-1019G polymorphism in HTR1A and recent negative life stressors accounted for current major depressive episodes and depressive symptoms. Our findings suggest that people with this gene variant may be more susceptible to developing depression especially after negative life stressors.
