RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: A study was undertaken to determine the relationships among organizational culture, organizational commitment, and organizational readiness in a sample of employees participating in a hospital-wide redesign process. METHODS: Employees of an organization undergoing patient-focused redesign were surveyed after a 6-month period of preparation and before the initiation of the new care delivery model. RESULTS: Organizational readiness, a variable rarely described in organizational change literature, was the strongest predictor of employee commitment to the organization. Constructive culture also was predictive, but less so than readiness for change. CONCLUSIONS: Additional research is needed to clarify how an organization's history and culture of change contribute to employee willingness to work for the goals of the organization. Findings suggest that when change is seen as a positive characteristic of the environment, employees are more likely to commit to the work of the institution.

RESUMO

An optical architecture is proposed that uses two modified liquid-crystal televisions (LCTV's) to control amplitude and phase modulation independently. Two applications in pattern recognition are discussed.

RESUMO

The phase modulating capabilities of a commercially available liquid crystal television (LCTV) have been investigated and applied to the joint transform optical correlator architecture. Operating the LCTV in a phase modulating mode requires a much smaller coherent light source while still producing a good joint transform power spectrum and good correlation signals.

RESUMO

A novel polarization-encoded two-channel joint transform correlator is described that can produce unity interference modulation, independent of the illumination of the target and the reference.

RESUMO

In a time of financial constraints in health care, it is essential that nursing staff development in hospitals--a costly part of the budget--make a difference. The findings of the following study supported a positive relationship between nurse satisfaction with hospital-sponsored nursing staff development and the nurse's job satisfaction, commitment to the organization, and intent to remain employed in the organization.

RESUMO

The recent production of a deformable mirror device (DMD) spatial light modulator has naturally led to techniques of using this device in popular optical correlator architectures. In this paper, the DMD is used in both joint transform and VanderLugt arrangements. In some cases, the DMD is used as the input device to a single stage joint transform correlator, and in other cases it is used as the filter device in a VanderLugt correlator. A liquid crystal TV is also used for real time addressing of filters displayed on the DMD.
