RESUMO

The microbiome of oral cavity in healthy people and patients with periodontitis was analyzed to determine their adhesive properties and the ability to form biofilms. The study involved 2 groups: healthy, 18 people, and an experimental group, 20 patients with chronic generalized periodontitis moderate severity of the disease. The average age of the studied people was 35-45 years. Material - dental plaque, scraping from the mucous membrane of the back of the tongue, the contents of the periodontal groove and periodontal pocket, as well as oral fluid. The main method of diagnostic was bacteriological. The average adhesion index (AAI) was used to determine adhesion level of microorganisms to epithelial cells of oral cavity's mucous membrane. The microbiota's ability to form biofilm was tested on glass and plastic surface. The microbiota of oral cavity of patients with periodontitis was characterized by decrease in the frequency of bacteria of the genera: Streptococcus, Peptostreptococcus, Peptococcus, and an increase in Staphylococcus aureus, Veillonella spp., Bacillus spp. The microbiota of the oral cavity of patients with generalized periodontitis has a greater ability to adhere to the cells of the mucous membrane than in healthy people, while their ability to form biofilms and exhibit pathogenic properties is enhanced. The biofilm formation of microorganisms in healthy and sick people differs both on glass and on plastic surfaces.

RESUMO

The catalytic activity of nanotubular titanium dioxide films formed during the oxidation of acetone to carbon dioxide under the action of visible light with a wavelength of 450 nm was found to be approximately 2 times higher compared to standard titanium dioxide (Degussa P25). The nanotubular films were grown by the anodization of titanium foil using an original technique. Diffuse reflectance spectra of the films are attributed to enhanced activity in the visible spectrum by the nonstoichiometry of titanium dioxide near the interface between the nanotubular film and the titanium foil substrate.

RESUMO

Air disinfection from bacteria and viruses by means of photocatalytic oxidation is investigated with microorganisms loaded over photocatalysts' films from aerosols. Deposition method and equipment have been developed to load Mycobacterium smegmatis , Bacillus thuringiensis , vaccinia virus, and influenza A (H3N2) virus on slides with undoped TiO(2) and platinized sulfated TiO(2) (Pt/TiO(2)). Inactivation dynamics was measured under UVA irradiation and in the dark. About 90% inactivation is reached in 30 min irradiation on TiO(2) and from 90 to 99.8% on Pt/TiO(2). The first-order inactivation rate coefficient ranged from 0.18 to 0.03 min(-1), over Pt/TiO(2) being higher than on TiO(2) for all microorganisms except Bacillus thuringiensis. The photocatalytic mineralization of Bacillus thuringiensis was performed on TiO(2) and Pt/TiO(2) with different photocatalyst and microorganism loadings. Completeness of mineralization depended on the TiO(2) to bacteria mass ratio. The rate of the photocatalytic carbon dioxide production grows with both the cell mass increase and the photocatalyst mass increase. Pt/TiO(2) showed increased rate of mineralization as well as of the inactivation likely due to a better charge carrier separation in the doped semiconductor photocatalyst. The results demonstrate that photocatalytic filters with deposited TiO(2) or Pt/TiO(2) are able to inactivate aerosol microorganisms and completely decompose them into inorganic products and Pt/TiO(2) provides higher disinfection and mineralization rates.

RESUMO

Microflora of urinary tract was studied in 419 children aged 1 - 17 years and hospitalized due to acute or chronic pyelonephritis. Etiology of inflammatory process was established in 57.8% of cases. According to our study, etiologic structure of causative agents of pyelonephritis did not differ from all-Russian data. The leading positions belonged to Gram-negative microorganisms from Enterobacteriaceae family: Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella spp. Results of the study point to high susceptibility of main causative agents of pyelonephritis to cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, and fluoroquinolones. High resistance to aminopenicillines was noted. In several isolates from Enterobacteriaceae family significant resistance to nalidixic acid and furazidin was observed.

RESUMO

Effect of biogenic amine serotonin on the development of human blood leukocytes during interaction with species from Yersinia genus (Y. pestis EV, Y. pseudotuberculosis serovars I and IV, Y. enterocolitica serovars 09 and 03) was studied in model system in vitro using flow cytofluorometry. Serotonin in concentration 10(-5) M had differently marked effects on Yersinia spp.-induced apoptosis of leukocytes. Pattern of the observed changes depended from species and serovar of Yersinia. Serotonin inhibited development of early (after 6 hours) apoptosis of leukocytes induced by Y. pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis serovar I.

RESUMO

The paper presents the results of cerebral circulation (CC) in 17 ventilated patients with severe brain injury in its acute phase. All the patients developed traumatic subarachnoidal hemorrhage, which was accompanied with angiospasm in the majority of cases. Doppler transcranial study (DTCS) was performed, by using the carotid compression test; the findings correlated with paCO2 and CV parameters. A dynamic study was performed every two days starting from their admission to an intensive care unit to the recovery from coma or normalization of CC parameters. The dilation and constriction components of the CC reserve were assessed from the results of this test and continued to be controlled during therapy. Thus, this paper shows the possibility of goal-oriented correction of CC autoregulation and optimization by selecting the parameters of assisted ventilation and by changing paCO2 under the guidance of Doppler transcranial study.

RESUMO

Seventeen patients with severe brain injury (Glasgow-8 Coma Scale 3-8 scores) complicated by traumatic subarachnoidal hemorrhage and severe cerebral hemodynamic disorders (hyperemia, vasospasm) were examined. Hyperventilation was performed in different phases of cerebral circulation under multiparametrical monitoring (intracranial pressure, cerebral perfusion pressure, jugular oximetry, Doppler study using the carotid compression test). The use of hyperventilation to eliminate intracranial hypertension in victims with brain hyperemia was shown to make cerebral circulation consistent with brain tissue oxygen demands and to improve the autoregulatory reserve of cerebral vessels. The application of hyperventilation to eliminate intracranial hypertension in vasospasm leads to a temporary reduction in intracranial pressure, but simultaneously causes cerebral circulatory changes that do not correspond to cerebral oxygen demands, as well as lowered cerebral perfusion pressure, which increases a risk for ischemic brain tissue lesion. This requires a strict rationale for the use of hyperventilation and for multiparametrical monitoring of cerebral functions, which includes jugular oximetry, Doppler transcranial study, and measurement of intracranial pressure throughout the hyperventilation period in order to prevent secondary brain lesion.
