RESUMO

Adipogenic differentiation and thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue (BAT) undergo dynamic processes, altering phenotypes and gene expressions. Proper reference genes in gene expression analysis are crucial to mitigate experimental variances and ensure PCR efficacy. Unreliable reference genes can lead to erroneous gene expression quantification, resulting in data misinterpretation. This study focused on identifying suitable reference genes for mouse brown adipocyte research, utilizing brown adipocytes from the Ucp1-luciferase ThermoMouse model. Comparative analysis of gene expression data under adipogenesis and thermogenesis conditions was conducted, validating 13 housekeeping genes through various algorithms, including DeltaCq, BestKeeper, geNorm, Normfinder, and RefFinder. Tbp and Rer1 emerged as optimal references for Ucp1 and Pparg expression in brown adipogenesis, while Tbp and Ubc were ideal for the expression analysis of these target genes in thermogenesis. Conversely, certain conventional references, including Actb, Tubb5, and Gapdh, proved unstable as reference genes under both conditions. These findings stress the critical consideration of reference gene selection in gene expression analysis within specific biological systems to ensure accurate conclusions.

Seasonal erosion flooding events present a significant challenge for effective disaster monitoring and land degradation studies. This research addresses this challenge by harnessing the combined capabilities of time-series Landsat and MODIS images to achieve high spatiotemporal-resolution mapping of flooding during such events. The study underscores the critical importance of precise flood monitoring for disaster mitigation and informed land management. To overcome the limitations posed by the trade-off between spatial and temporal resolution in current satellite sensors, we emplyedand theflexible spatiotemporal data fusion (FSDAF) methods to produce synthetic flood images with enhanced spatiotemporal resolutions for mapping by using MODIS and Landsat data from August 29 to September 3, 2016. A comparison was made between flood maps from several post-disaster forecasts based on ground-obtained time-series images of the Tumen River flood in China. According to the FSDAF approach, the input Landsat image of March 25, 2016, and the fused results had a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.0301, average difference of 0.001, r of 0.941, and structure similarity indexof 0.939, indicating that temporal variation data had been effectively incorporated into a forecast on August 16, 2016. Results also indicated that the FSDAF forecast values are lower than those from the actual Landsat image. The results of the study also showed that the generated images could be effectively used for flood mapping. By using our newly developed simulation model, we were able to produce a comprehensive map of the inundated areas during the event from August 29 to September 3, 2016. This shows that FSDAF holds great potential for flood prediction and study and has the potential to benefit further disaster-related land degradation by combining multi-source images to provide high temporal and spatial resolution remote sensing information.

Viruses have evolved sophisticated mechanisms to manipulate host cell processes and utilize intracellular organelles to facilitate their replication. These complex interactions between viruses and cellular organelles allow them to hijack the cellular machinery and impair homeostasis. Moreover, viral infection alters the cell membrane's structure and composition and induces vesicle formation to facilitate intracellular trafficking of viral components. However, the research focus has predominantly been on the immune response elicited by viruses, often overlooking the significant alterations that viruses induce in cellular organelles. Gaining a deeper understanding of these virus-induced cellular changes is crucial for elucidating the full life cycle of viruses and developing potent antiviral therapies. Exploring virus-induced cellular changes could substantially improve our understanding of viral infection mechanisms.

The Korean Society of Laryngology, Phoniatrics and Logopedics created a task force to establish clinical practice guidelines for the use of botulinum toxin (BT) in otolaryngology. We selected 10 disease categories: spasmodic dysphonia, essential vocal tremor, vocal fold granuloma, bilateral vocal fold paralysis, Frey's syndrome, sialocele, sialorrhea, cricopharyngeal dysfunction, chronic sialadenitis, and first bite syndrome. To retrieve all relevant papers, we searched the CORE databases with predefined search strategies, including Medline (PubMed), Embase, the Cochrane Library, and KoreaMed. The committee reported 13 final recommendations with detailed evidence profiles. The guidelines are primarily aimed at all clinicians applying BT to the head and neck area. In addition, the guidelines aim to promote an improved understanding of the safe and effective use of BT by policymakers and counselors, as well as in patients scheduled to receive BT injections.

Numerous natural disasters that threaten people's lives and property occur in Indonesia. Climate change-induced temperature increases are expected to affect the frequency of natural hazards in the future and pose more risks. This study examines the consequences of droughts and forest fires on the Indonesian island of Kalimantan. We first create maps showing the eleven contributing factors that have the greatest impact on forest fires and droughts related to the climate, topography, anthropogenic, and vegetation. Next, we used RF to create single and multi-risk maps for forest fires and droughts in Kalimantan Island. Finally, using the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) integrated evaluation model, a future climate scenario was applied to predict multiple risk maps for RCP-SSP2-4.5 and RCP-SSP5-8.5 in 2040-2059 and 2080-2099. The probability of a 22.6% drought and a 21.7% forest fire were anticipated to have an influence on the study's findings, and 2.6% of the sites looked at were predicted to be affected by both hazards. Both RCP-SSP2-4.5 and RCP-SSP5-8.5 have an increase in these hazards projected for them. Researchers and stakeholders may use these findings to assess risks under various mitigation strategies and estimate the spatial behavior of such forest fire and drought occurrences.

The TRPM4 gene encodes a Ca2+-activated monovalent cation channel called transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (TRPM4) that is expressed in various tissues. Dysregulation or abnormal expression of TRPM4 has been linked to a range of diseases. We introduced the hemagglutinin (HA) tag into the extracellular S6 loop of TRPM4, resulting in an HA-tagged version called TRPM4-HA. This TRPM4-HA was developed to investigate the purification, localization, and function of TRPM4 in different physiological and pathological conditions. TRPM4-HA was successfully expressed in the intact cell membrane and exhibited similar electrophysiological properties, such as the current-voltage relationship, rapid desensitization, and current size, compared to the wild-type TRPM4. The presence of the TRPM4 inhibitor 9-phenanthrol did not affect these properties. Furthermore, a wound-healing assay showed that TRPM4-HA induced cell proliferation and migration, similar to the native TRPM4. Co-expression of protein tyrosine phosphatase, non-receptor type 6 (PTPN6 or SHP-1) with TRPM4-HA led to the translocation of TRPM4-HA to the cytosol. To investigate the interaction between PTPN6 and tyrosine residues of TRPM4 in enhancing channel activity, we generated four mutants in which tyrosine (Y) residues were substituted with phenylalanine (F) at the N-terminus of TRPM4. The YF mutants displayed properties and functions similar to TRPM4-HA, except for the Y256F mutant, which showed resistance to 9-phenanthrol, suggesting that Y256 may be involved in the binding site for 9-phenanthrol. Overall, the creation of HA-tagged TRPM4 provides researchers with a valuable tool to study the role of TRPM4 in different conditions and its potential interactions with other proteins, such as PTPN6.

Breast cancer is a common tumor type among women, with a high fatality due to metastasis. Metastasis suppressors encode proteins that inhibit the metastatic cascade independent of the primary tumor growth. Raf kinase inhibitory protein (RKIP) is one of the promising metastasis suppressor candidates. RKIP is reduced or lost in aggressive variants of different types of cancer. A few pre-clinical or clinical studies have capitalized on this protein as a possible therapeutic target. In this article, we employed two breast cancer cells to highlight the role of RKIP as an antimetastatic gene. One is the low metastatic MCF-7 with high RKIP expression, and the other is MDA-MB-231 highly metastatic cell with low RKIP expression. We used high-throughput data to explore how RKIP is lost in human tissues and its effect on cell mobility. Based on our previous work recapitulating the links between RKIP and SNAI, we experimentally manipulated RKIP in the cell models through its novel upstream NME1 and investigated the subsequent genotypic and phenotypic changes. We also demonstrated that RKIP explained the uneven migration abilities of the two cell types. Furthermore, we identified the regulatory circuit that might carry the effect of an existing drug, Epirubicin, on activating gene transcription. In conclusion, we propose and test a potential strategy to reverse the metastatic capability of breast cancer cells by chemically manipulating RKIP expression.

It was recently found that glutamine (Gln) supplementation activates glutamatergic neurotransmission and prevents chronic-stress-induced mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In this study, we evaluated the effects of Gln on glutamatergic activity in the medial prefrontal cortex and the onset of cognitive impairment in a triple-transgenic Alzheimer's disease mouse model (3×Tg-AD). Female 3×Tg-AD mice were fed a normal diet (3×Tg) or a Gln-supplemented diet (3×Tg+Gln) from 2 to 6 months of age. Glutamatergic neuronal activity was analyzed at 6 months, and cognitive function was examined at 2, 4, and 6 months. 3×Tg mice exhibited a decrease in glutamatergic neurotransmission in the infralimbic cortex, but 3×Tg+Gln mice did not. The 3×Tg group showed MCI at 6 months of age, but the 3×Tg+Gln group did not. The expressions of amyloid peptide, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and IBA-1 were not elevated in the infralimbic cortex in the 3×Tg+Gln group. Therefore, a Gln-supplemented diet could delay the onset of MCI even in a mouse model predisposed to cognitive impairment and dementia through genetic modification.

Dye eye disease (DED) is a common ocular disorder in patients with diabetes. It has been reported that APX-115A, a pan-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAPDH) oxidase inhibitor, has an apoptosis-inducing effect on Epstein-Barr virus-infected retinal epithelial cells, but its effects in DED are poorly understood. Therefore, a rat model of diabetes was used in the present study to investigate whether APX-115A has an impact on DED in diabetic rats. A diabetic model was established in male Sprague Dawley rats via the intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. The eyeballs of the rats were treated with a solution containing APX-115A or a saline control. Tear secretion was measured with the phenol red thread tear test, and the morphology of the eyeball and lacrimal gland tissues was determined using hematoxylin and eosin staining. In addition, localization of NAPDH oxidase 2 (NOX2) in the eyeball and lacrimal gland tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. The APX-115A treatment had no effect on body weight, blood glucose level or the size of the lacrimal glands. However, morphological changes, namely intracellular vacuoles and acinar atrophy, were observed in the lacrimal glands of the diabetic rats, and APX-115A treatment attenuated these changes. Immunohistochemistry revealed that NOX2 expression was decreased in the lacrimal glands of the diabetic rats, and APX-115A treatment did not attenuate the reduction in NOX2. The corneas of the diabetic rats treated with APX-115A exhibited no change in thickness but had lower NOX2 expression levels compared with those of the control diabetic rats. APX-115A also increased tear secretion and ameliorated the histological changes associated with diabetes. Furthermore, the NOX2 expression levels in the corneas of the diabetic rats treated with APX-115A were restored to the levels observed in normal rats. These findings suggest that APX-115A has potential as a therapeutic agent for DED.

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is the most used member of the phthalate class of compounds. Extensive use of this plasticizer allows daily exposure to humans via various routes. A positive relationship between DEHP exposure and neurobehavioral disorders is suspected. But, there are insufficient data on the harmfulness of neurobehavioral disorders caused by DEHP exposure, particularly at daily exposure levels. In this study, we assessed the consequences of daily DEHP ingestion (2 and 20 mg/kg diets) in male mice for at least 100 days and examined its effects on neuronal functions associated with neurobehavioral disorders, such as depression and cognitive decline. We found the marked depressive behaviors and reduced learning and memory function in the DEHP-ingestion groups, and that biomarkers related to chronic stress were increased in plasma and brain tissues. Long-term DEHP ingestion induced collapse of glutamate (Glu) and glutamine (Gln) homeostasis as a result of disruption of the Glu-Gln cycle in the medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. The reduced glutamatergic neurotransmission activity caused by DEHP ingestion was demonstrated using an electrophysiological method. This study revealed that long-term exposure to DEHP is hazardous and can cause neurobehavioral disorders, even at daily exposure levels.

Biogenic amines are cellular components produced by the decarboxylation of amino acids; however, excessive biogenic amine production causes adverse health problems. The relationship between hepatic damage and biogenic amine levels in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains unclear. In this study, mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks to induce obesity, presenting early-stage of NAFLD. We administered histamine (20 mg/kg) + tyramine (100 mg/kg) via oral gavage for 6 days to mice with HFD-induced early-stage NAFLD. The results showed that combined histamine and tyramine administration increased cleaved PARP-1 and IL-1ß in the liver, as well as MAO-A, total MAO, CRP, and AST/ALT levels. In contrast, the survival rate decreased in HFD-induced NAFLD mice. Treatment with manufactured or traditional fermented soybean paste decreased biogenically elevated hepatic cleaved PARP-1 and IL-1ß expression and blood plasma MAO-A, CRP, and AST/ALT levels in HFD-induced NAFLD mice. Additionally, the biogenic amine-induced reduction in survival rate was alleviated by fermented soybean paste in HFD-induced NAFLD mice. These results show that biogenic amine-induced liver damage can be exacerbated by obesity and may adversely affect life conservation. However, fermented soybean paste can reduce biogenic amine-induced liver damage in NAFLD mice. These results suggest a beneficial effect of fermented soybean paste on biogenic amine-induced liver damage and provide a new research perspective on the relationship between biogenic amines and obesity.

The aim of this study was to develop evidence-based recommendations for determining the surgical extent in patients with locally invasive differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Locally invasive DTC with gross extrathyroidal extension invading surrounding anatomical structures may lead to several functional deficits and poor oncological outcomes. At present, the optimal extent of surgery in locally invasive DTC remains a matter of debate, and there are no adequate guidelines. On October 8, 2021, four experts searched the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases; the identified papers were reviewed by 39 experts in thyroid and head and neck surgery. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to assess the quality of evidence, and to develop and report recommendations. The strength of a recommendation reflects the confidence of a guideline panel that the desirable effects of an intervention outweigh any undesirable effects, across all patients for whom the recommendation is applicable. After completing the draft guidelines, Delphi questionnaires were completed by members of the Korean Society of Head and Neck Surgery. Twenty-seven evidence-based recommendations were made for several factors, including the preoperative workup; surgical extent of thyroidectomy; surgery for cancer invading the strap muscles, recurrent laryngeal nerve, laryngeal framework, trachea, or esophagus; and surgery for patients with central and lateral cervical lymph node involvement. Evidence-based guidelines were devised to help clinicians make safer and more efficient clinical decisions for the optimal surgical treatment of patients with locally invasive DTC.

Functional traits are characteristics of species that affect their fitness and ecosystem, and they greatly influence ecological niches. Thus, biodiversity assessment based on functional groups rather than species per se can more realistically reflect the ecological niche space. As essential players of ecosystem functions, herpetofauna are appropriate subjects of functional trait-based analyses. In this study, using a nationwide dataset and applying trait information and ecological niche modeling, the richness within each functional group, and the taxonomic and functional diversity indices of South Korean herpetofauna were visualized to identify and compare the geographic distributions. The results revealed that the reptile community seemed more locally diverse with more overlapping randomized patterns among groups than amphibians, while amphibians showed wider distributions and a higher within-grid occurrence ratio. Functional diversity indices of reptiles also showed more randomized geographic patterns with higher levels at Jejudo Island than amphibians. The findings of this study may help to identify biodiversity hot spots and understand its ecosystem health. Increasing survey data and trait information will improve the assessment.

The etiology of hyperglycemic-induced depressive behaviors is unclear. We hypothesized that long-term hyperglycemia may induce long-lasting disturbances in glutamatergic signaling and neural damages, causing depressive behaviors. To prove our hypothesis, a C57BL/6N mouse model of hyperglycemia was maintained for 4 weeks (equivalent to approximately 3 years in humans), after which insulin treatment was administered for an additional 4 weeks to normalize hyperglycemia-induced changes. Hyperglycemic mice showed depressive-like behaviors. Glutamatergic neurons and glial cells in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) were affected by hyperglycemia. Insulin treatment improved blood glucose, water intake, and food intake to normoglycemic levels, but did not improve depressive-like behaviors. Glutamatergic signaling decreased with long-term hyperglycemia and did not normalize with insulin-induced normoglycemia. Importantly, hyperglycemia-induced changes in the mPFC were almost not reversed by the 4-week insulin treatment. In particular, levels of insulin receptor beta subunit (IRß), IRS-1, vesicular glutamate transporter 1, glutamine transporter SNAT2, phosphate-activated glutaminase, and GLUT-3 were not changed by insulin. Nitration and the dephosphorylation of IRß in the PFC also did not improve with insulin treatment. Therefore, our results suggest that hypoactive glutamatergic activity in the mPFC is involved in diabetic-associated depressive behaviors, and it is difficult to cure with glycemic regulation alone.

Global changes may direct species expansion away from their current range. When such an expansion occurs, and the species colonizes a new region, it is important to monitor the habitat used by the species and utilize the information to updated management strategies. Water deer (Hydropotes inermis) is listed as Vulnerable species in IUCN Red List and is restricted to east central China and the Korean Peninsula. Since 2017, water deer has expanded its range towards northeast China and the Russian Far East. The objective of our study is to provide support for a better understanding of habitat use and provide suggestions for developing conservation strategy. We collected occurrence data in northeast China and the Russian Far East during 2017-2021. We used MaxEnt to predict habitat suitability for water deer and applied Circuitscape to determine possible dispersal routes for the species. We used seven environmental variables, viz., altitude, slope, aspect, distance to built-up area, distance to water source, distance to cropland and distance to roads for habitat suitability prediction. We chose the MaxEnt model (AICc = 2572.86) suitable for our data with the AUC value result of 0.935±0.014. There is good quality habitat for water deer in the boundary area of the Yalu and Tumen River estuaries between China, North Korea, and the Russian Far East, as well as the east and west regions of the Korean Peninsula. We identified three main suitable habitat patches, two of them located in east (NK2) and west (NK3) North Korea, and one in the newly colonized area downstream of the Tumen River along the border of China, Russia, and North Korea (TM1). Elevation, distance to cropland and water sources, and presence of wetlands were the variables that positively contributed to modelling the suitable habitats. Two possible dispersal routes were determined using the circuit theory, one was across the area from North Korea to the downstream Tumen transboundary region (Route B), and the other was across North Korea to the boundary region in China and along the tiger national park in northern China (Route A). A series of protected areas in North Korea, China, and Russia may support the dispersal of water deer. From the study on water deer dispersal, we can understand the existing ecological network in northeast Asia, which will benefit the whole landscape and biodiversity conservation. However, there are many threats present, and there is need for continued monitoring inside and outside the protected areas. Information sharing with stakeholders and carrying out local communities awareness activities are important. The establishment of a Northeast Asia landscape conservation network would help establish monitoring and conservation planning at a broad scale, and this study provides an example of the need for such a network.

Voice change is a common complaint after thyroid surgery and has a significant impact on quality of life. The Korean Society of Laryngology, Phoniatrics and Logopedics assembled a task force to establish guideline recommendations on education, care, and management related to thyroid surgery. The guideline recommendations encompass preoperative voice education, management of anticipated voice change during surgery, and comprehensive voice care after thyroid surgery, and include in-depth information and up-to-date knowledge based on validated literature. The committee constructed 14 key questions (KQs) in three categories-preoperative (KQ 1-2), intraoperative (KQ 3-8), and postoperative (KQ 9-14) management-and developed 18 evidence-based recommendations. The Delphi survey reached an agreement on each recommendation. A detailed evidence profile is presented for each recommendation. The level of evidence for each recommendation was classified as high-quality, moderate-quality, or low-quality. The strength of each recommendation was designated as strong or weak considering the level of evidence supporting the recommendation. The guidelines are primarily targeted toward physicians who treat thyroid surgery patients and speech-language pathologists participating in patient care. These guidelines will also help primary care physicians, nurses, healthcare policymakers, and patients improve their understanding of voice changes and voice care after thyroid surgery.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has proved the importance of fast and widespread diagnostic testing to prevent serious epidemics timely. The first-line weapon against rapidly transmitted disease is a quick and massive screening test to isolate patients immediately, preventing dissemination. Here, we described magnetoplasmonic nanozymes (MagPlas NZs), i.e., hierarchically coassembled Fe3O4-Au superparticles, that are capable of integrating magnetic enrichment and catalytic amplification, thereby the assay can be streamlined amenable to high-throughput operation and achieve ultrahigh sensitivity. Combining this advantage with conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), we propose a MagPlas ELISA for urine-based tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and anti-TB therapy monitoring, which enables fast (<3 h), and highly sensitive (up to pM with naked-eyes, < 10 fM with plate reader) urinary TB antigen detection. A clinical study with a total of 297 urine samples showed robust sensitivity for pulmonary tuberculosis (85.0%) and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (52.8%) patients with high specificity (96.7% and 96.9%). Furthermore, this methodology offers a great promise of noninvasive therapeutic response monitoring, which is impracticable in the gold-standard culture method. The MagPlas ELISA showed high sensitivity comparable to the PCR assay while retaining a simple and cheap ELISA concept, thus it could be a promising point-of-care test for TB epidemic control and possibly applied to other acute infections.

Models created by the intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and D-galactosamine (D-GalN) have been widely used to study the pathogenesis of human acute liver failure (ALF) and drug development. Our previous study reported that oyster (Crassostrea gigas) hydrolysate (OH) had a hepatoprotective effect in LPS/D-GalN-injected mice. This study was performed to identify the hepatoprotective effect of the tyrosine-alanine (YA) peptide, the main component of OH, in a LPS/D-GalN-injected ALF mice model. We analyzed the effect of YA on previously known mechanisms of hepatocellular injury in the model. LPS/D-GalN-injected mice showed inflammatory, apoptotic, ferroptotic, and pyroptotic liver injury. The pre-administration of YA (10 mg/kg or 50 mg/kg) significantly reduced the liver damage factors. The hepatoprotective effect of YA was higher in the 50 mg/kg YA pre-administered group than in the 10 mg/kg YA pre-administered group. These results showed that YA had a hepatoprotective effect by reducing inflammation, apoptosis, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis in the LPS/D-GalN-injected ALF mouse model. We suggest that YA can be used as a functional peptide for the prevention of acute liver injury.

The two-pore domain K+ (K2P) channel, which is involved in setting the resting membrane potential in neurons, is an essential target for receptor agonists. Activation of the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors (GABAAR and GABABR) reduces cellular excitability through Cl- influx and K+ efflux in neurons. Relatively little is known about the link between GABAAR and the K+ channel. The present study was performed to identify the effect of GABAR agonists on K2P channel expression and activity in the neuroblastic B35 cells that maintain glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) activity and express GABA. TASK and TREK/TRAAK mRNA were expressed in B35 cells with a high level of TREK-2 and TRAAK. In addition, TREK/TRAAK proteins were detected in the GABAergic neurons obtained from GABA transgenic mice. Furthermore, TREK-2 mRNA and protein expression levels were markedly upregulated in B35 cells by GABAAR and GABABR agonists. In particular, muscimol, a GABAAR agonist, significantly increased TREK-2 expression and activity, but the effect was reduced in the presence of the GABAAR antagonist bicuculine or TREK-2 inhibitor norfluoxetine. In the whole-cell and single-channel patch configurations, muscimol increased TREK-2 activity, but the muscimol effect disappeared in the N-terminal deletion mutant. These results indicate that muscimol directly induces TREK-2 activation through the N-terminus and suggest that muscimol can reduce cellular excitability by activating the TREK-2 channel and by inducing Cl- influx in GABAergic neurons.

Over the past decades, the production and use of hazardous chemicals has increased worldwide, and the incidence of neurological diseases is increasing proportionately. Among these chemicals, Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is the most common member of the phthalate family used as a plasticizer. The present study assessed the consequences of daily DEHP ingestion and its effects on brain functions related to depressive-like behaviors. Adolescent C57BL/6 male mice ingested different concentrations of DEHP in their diet (2, 20, and 200 mg/kg of diet), and behavioral changes in anxiety, despair, anhedonia, and sociality were investigated. DEHP exposure evoked depressive-like behaviors in a dose-dependent manner for each symptom. The levels of corticosterone and reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species increased in DEHP-exposed groups, suggesting chronic stress-like responses. In the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), glutamate and glutamine were decreased, and glutamine synthetase showed lower activity compared to the control group, suggesting imbalanced glutamatergic signaling. Measuring the spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic current of glutamatergic neurons, we found that DEHP ingestion resulted in hypoactive glutamatergic signaling in the mPFC.
