This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effects of micro-current stimulation (MCS) on inflammatory responses in chondrocytes and degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in osteoarthritis (OA). To determine the efficacy of MCS, IL-1ß-treated chondrocytes and monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)-induced OA rat model were used. To evaluate the cytotoxicity and nitric oxide (NO) production in SW1353 cells, the presence or absence of IL-1ß treatment or various levels of MCS were applied. Immunoblot analysis was conducted to evaluate whether MCS can modulate IL-1R1/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway and various indicators involved in ECM degradation. Additionally, to determine whether MCS alleviates subchondral bone structure destruction caused by OA, micro-CT analysis, immunoblot analysis, and ELISA were conducted using OA rat model. 25 and 50 µA levels of MCS showed effects in cell proliferation and NO production. The MCS group with IL-1ß treatment lead to significant inhibition of protein expression levels regarding IL-1R1/MyD88/NF-κB signaling and reduction of the nucleus translocation of NF-κB. In addition, the protein expression levels of MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-13, and IL-1ß decreased, whereas collagen II and aggrecan increased. In animal results, morphological analysis of subchondral bone using micro-CT showed that MCS induced subchondral bone regeneration and improvement, as evidenced by increased thickness and bone mineral density of the subchondral bone. Furthermore, MCS-applied groups showed decreases in the protein expression of MMP-1 and MMP-3, while increases in collagen-II and aggrecan expressions. These findings suggest that MCS has the potential to be used as a non-pharmaceutical method to alleviate OA.

A low-cost and indium-tin-oxide (ITO)-free electrode-based flexible perovskite solar cell (PSC) that can be fabricated by roll-to-roll processing shall be developed for successful commercialization. High processing temperatures present a challenge for the PSC fabrication on flexible substrates. The most efficient planar n-i-p PSC structures, which utilize a metal oxide as an electron transport layer (ETL), necessitate high annealing temperatures. In addition, the device performance deteriorates owing to the migration of halogen ions, which causes the oxidation of the metal electrodes. These drawbacks conflict with the development of highly efficient flexible PSCs fabricated on ITO-free transparent electrodes. Herein, an efficient ETL material that enables low-temperature processing is presented. Tin dioxide (SnO2) is modified by (sulfobetaine-N,N-dimethylamino)propyl naphthalene diimide (NDI-B) and used as an ETL. The NDI-B effectively reduces the interfacial nonradiative recombination between the ETL and perovskite and suppresses the ion migration by passivating oxygen-vacancy defects in SnO2 and strongly interacting with halogen ions, respectively. Based on the NDI-B-blended SnO2 ETL, a record PCE of 17.48% is achieved in the ITO-free flexible PSC fabricated at low temperature.

Numerical simulations of D y 3+-doped aluminosilicate fiber lasers for yellow light emission are presented. The 4 F 9/2→6 H 13/2 laser transition emitting at approximately 580 nm has been developed experimentally with 445 nm diode pumping and shows promise for higher output power in both silicate and in particular fluoride glass hosts. In this report, we focus on accumulating the published spectroscopic data in order to quantify cross relaxation (CR) in each of these hosts and use it to estimate its role in the laser dynamics. The model involves calculation of the branching ratios, and radiative and nonradiative decay rates and compares well with reported experimental results. We show the important role of the background losses on previous laser performance and the relatively strong increase in the laser threshold as a result of CR despite the moderately low D y 3+ concentrations that have been experimentally tested.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder characterized by joint destruction due to synovial hypertrophy and the infiltration of inflammatory cells. Despite substantial progress in RA treatment, challenges persist, including suboptimal treatment responses and adverse effects associated with current therapies. This study investigates the anti-rheumatic capabilities of the newly identified multi-protein kinase inhibitor, KMU-11342, aiming to develop innovative agents targeting RA. In this study, we synthesized the novel multi-protein kinase inhibitor KMU-11342, based on indolin-2-one. We assessed its cardiac electrophysiological safety using the Langendorff system in rat hearts and evaluated its toxicity in zebrafish in vivo. Additionally, we examined the anti-rheumatic effects of KMU-11342 on human rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS), THP-1 cells, and osteoclastogenesis in RAW264.7 cells. KMU-11342 demonstrated the ability to inhibit LPS-induced chemokine inhibition and the upregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, p-IKKα/ß, p-NF-κB p65, and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 in RA-FLS. It effectively suppressed the upregulation of NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) and caspase-1 cleavage. Furthermore, KMU-11342 hindered the activation of osteoclast differentiation factors such as RANKL-induced TRAP, cathepsin K, NFATc-1, and c-Fos in RAW264.7 cells. KMU-11342 mitigates LPS-mediated inflammatory responses in THP-1 cells by inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome. Notably, KMU-11342 exhibited minimal cytotoxicity in vivo and electrophysiological cardiotoxicity ex vivo. Consequently, KMU-11342 holds promise for development as a therapeutic agent in RA treatment.

The wide band gap perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted considerable attention for their great potential as top cells in high efficiency tandem cell application. However, the photovoltaic performance and stability of PSCs are constrained by nonradiative recombination, primarily stemming from defects within the bulk and at the interface of charge transport layer/perovskite and phase segregation. In this study, we systematically investigated the effects of 2-thiopheneethylammonium chloride (TEACl) on a wide band gap (∼1.67 eV) Cs0.15FA0.65MA0.20Pb(I0.8Br0.2)3 (CsFAMA) perovskite solar cell. TEACl was employed as a passivation layer between the perovskite and electron transport layer (ETL). With TEACl treatment, charged defects responsible for sub-band absorption and electrostatic potential fluctuation were effectively suppressed by the passivation of bulk defects. The incorporation of TEACl, which led to the formation of a TEA2PbX4/Perovskite (2D/3D) heterojunction, facilitated better band alignment and effective passivation of interface defects at the ETL/CsFAMA. Owing to these beneficial effects, the TEACl passivated PSC achieved a photo conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.70% and retained ∼85% of initial PCE over ∼1900 h, surpassing the performance of the untreated PSC, which exhibited a PCE of 16.69% and retained only ∼37% of its initial PCE.

Importance: The appropriate follow-up surveillance strategy for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains unknown. Objective: To assess clinical outcomes in patients with and without ACS who have undergone high-risk PCI according to a follow-up strategy of routine stress testing at 12 months after PCI vs standard care alone. Design, Setting, and Participants: The POST-PCI (Pragmatic Trial Comparing Symptom-Oriented vs Routine Stress Testing in High-Risk Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) trial was a randomized clinical trial that compared follow-up strategies of routine functional testing vs standard care alone 12 months after high-risk PCI. Patients were categorized as presenting with or without ACS. Patients were enrolled in the trial from November 2017 through September 2019, and patients were randomized from 11 sites in South Korea; data analysis was performed in 2022. Intervention: Patients categorized as presenting with or without ACS were randomized to either a routine functional testing or standard care alone follow-up strategy 12 months after high-risk PCI. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was a composite of death from any cause, myocardial infarction, or hospitalization for unstable angina at 2 years following randomization. Kaplan-Meier event rates through 2 years and Cox model hazard ratios (HRs) were generated, and interactions were tested. Results: Of 1706 included patients, 350 patients (20.5%) were female, and the mean (SD) patient age was 64.7 (10.3) years. In total, 526 patients (30.8%) presented with ACS. Compared with those without ACS, patients with ACS had a 55% greater risk of the primary outcome (HR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.03-2.33; P = .03) due to higher event rates in the first year. The 2-year incidences of the primary outcome were similar between strategies of routine functional testing or standard care alone in patients with ACS (functional testing: 16 of 251 [6.6%]; standard care: 23 of 275 [8.5%]; HR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.40-1.44; P = .39) and in patients without ACS (functional testing: 30 of 598 [5.1%]; standard care: 28 of 582 [4.9%]; HR, 1.04; 95% CI, 0.62-1.74; P = .88) (P for interaction for ACS = .45). Although a landmark analysis suggested that the rates of invasive angiography and repeat revascularization were higher after 1 year in the routine functional testing group, the formal interactions between ACS status and either invasive angiography or repeat revascularization were not significant. Conclusion and Relevance: Despite being at higher risk for adverse clinical events in the first year after PCI than patients without ACS, patients with ACS who had undergone high-risk PCI did not derive incremental benefit from routine surveillance stress testing at 12 months compared with standard care alone during follow-up. Traditional experimental methodologies suffer from a few limitations in the toxicological evaluation of the preservatives added to eye drops. In this study, we overcame these limitations by using a microfluidic device. We developed a microfluidic system featuring a gradient concentration generator for preservative dosage control with microvalves and micropumps, automatically regulated by a programmable Arduino board. This system facilitated the simultaneous toxicological evaluation of human corneal epithelial cells against eight different concentrations of preservatives, allowing for quadruplicate experiments in a single run. In our study, the IC50 values for healthy eyes and those affected with dry eyes syndrome showed an approximately twofold difference. This variation is likely attributable to the duration for which the preservative remained in contact with corneal cells before being washed off by the medium, suggesting the significance of exposure time in the cytotoxic effect of preservatives. Our microfluidic system, automated by Arduino, simulated healthy and dry eye environments to study benzalkonium chloride toxicity and revealed significant differences in cell viability, with IC50 values of 0.0033% for healthy eyes and 0.0017% for dry eyes. In summary, we implemented the pinch-to-zoom feature of an electronic tablet in our microfluidic system, offering innovative alternatives for eye research.

Aminopyrrolnitrin (APRN), a natural halogenated phenylpyrrole derivative (HPD), has strong antifungal and antiparasitic activities. Additionally, it showed 2.8-fold increased photostability compared to pyrrolnitrin, a commercially available HPD with antimicrobial activity. For microbial production of APRN, we first engineered anthranilate phosphoribosyltransferase encoded by trpD from Corynebacterium glutamicum, resulting in a TrpDA162D mutation that exhibits feedback-resistant against L-tryptophan and higher substrate affinity compared to wild-type TrpD. Plasmid-borne expression of trpDA162D in C. glutamicum TP851 strain with two copies of trpDA162D in the genome led to the production of 3.1 g/L L-tryptophan in flask culture. Subsequent step for L-tryptophan chlorination into 7-chloro-L-tryptophan was achieved by introducing diverse sources of genes encoding tryptophan 7-halogenase (PrnA or RebH) and flavin reductase (Fre, PrnF, or RebF). The combined expression of prnA from Serratia grimesii or Serratia plymuthica with flavin reductase gene from Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, or Lechevalieria aerocolonigenes yielded higher production of 7-chloro-L-tryptophan in comparison to other sets of two-component systems. In the next step, production of putative monodechloroaminopyrrolnitrin (MDAP) from 7-chloro-L-tryptophan was achieved through the expression of prnB encoding MDAP synthase from S. plymuthica or P. fluorescens. Finally, an artificial APRN biosynthetic pathway was constructed by simultaneously expressing genes coding for tryptophan 7-halogenase, flavin reductase, MDAP synthase, and MDAP halogenase (PrnC) from different microbial sources within the L-tryptophan-producing TP851 strain. As prnC from S. grimesii or S. plymuthica was introduced into the host strain, which carried plasmids expressing prnA from S. plymuthica, fre from E. coli, and prnB from S. plymuthica, APN3639 and APN3638 accumulated 29.5 mg/L and 28.1 mg/L of APRN in the culture broth. This study represents the first report on the fermentative APRN production by metabolically engineered C. glutamicum.

Background: Hominis placental (HPP) extract has been approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea for treating chronic liver diseases and postmenopausal syndrome. However, its efficacy and safety for treating chronic temporomandibular disorder (TMD) remains unclear. We aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of HPP for treating chronic TMD compared with physical therapy (PT). Methods: This study is a 2-arm parallel, multi-center, randomized controlled trial. We enrolled 82 chronic TMD patients from 2 Korean medicine hospitals between December 2019 and January 2021. We included patients with chronic TMD and randomly assigned them to undergo HPP or PT. The primary outcome was the difference in the scores for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain at baseline and week 6. The secondary outcomes were the scores for TMJ pain and bothersomeness, TMJ range of motion, the Korean version of Beck's depression index-Ⅱ, jaw functional limitation scale (JFLS) score, patient global impression of change (PGIC) scores, EuroQoL 5-dimension 5-level score, and short form-12 health survey (SF-12) scores. Results: Compared with PT, HPP showed significantly superior effects on TMJ pain and bothersomeness, protrusive movement pain, JFLS (verbal, emotional, and global), SF-12, and PGIC scores at week 6 (P < 0.05). Compared with the PT group, the HPP group showed a significantly higher recovery rate (≥50 % reduction in the scores for TMJ pain at the 24-week follow-up). Conclusion: HPP was more effective than PT managing pain and improving function and quality of life. Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of HPP for TMD treatment. BACKGROUND: The optimal functional evaluation of coronary artery stenosis in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) has not been established. The objective of the study was to evaluate the instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) in patients with and without severe AS. METHODS: We retrospectively investigated 395 lesions in 293 patients with severe AS and 2257 lesions in 1882 patients without severe AS between 2010 and 2022 from a subgroup of the Interventional Cardiology Research In-Cooperation Society FFR Registry. All patients had FFR values, and iFR was analyzed post hoc using dedicated software only in lesions with adequate resting pressure curves (311 lesions in patients with severe AS and 2257 lesions in patients with nonsevere AS). RESULTS: The incidence of iFR ≤0.89 was 66.6% and 31.8% (P<0.001), while the incidence of FFR ≤0.80 was 45.3% and 43.9% (P=0.60) in the severe AS group and the nonsevere AS group, respectively. In the severe AS group, most lesions (95.2%) with iFR >0.89 had FFR >0.80, while 36.2% of lesions with iFR ≤0.89 had FFR >0.80. During a median follow-up of 2 years, FFR ≤0.80 was significantly associated with deferred lesion failure (adjusted hazard ratio, 2.71 [95% CI, 1.08-6.80]; P=0.034), while iFR ≤0.89 showed no prognostic value (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.31 [95% CI, 0.47-3.60]; P=0.60) in the severe AS group. Lesions with iFR ≤0.89 and FFR >0.80, in particular, were not associated with a higher rate of deferred lesion failure at 3 years compared with lesions with iFR >0.89 (15.4% versus 17.0%; P=0.58). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested that FFR appears to be less affected by the presence of severe AS and is more associated with prognosis. iFR may overestimate the functional severity of coronary artery disease without prognostic significance, yet it can be useful for excluding significant stenosis in patients with severe AS.

Background/purpose: The long-term outcomes of implants placed in grafted sinuses using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) are unclear. This study aimed to compare 3- and 5-year implant survival rates and marginal bone loss (MBL) during functional loading. Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed 63 implants inserted after maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) in 45 patients between January 2016 and April 2019. The outcome variables were: 1) 3- and 5-year cumulative survival rates of the implants and 2) MBL after functional loading. Other assessed variables included patient demographic information, preoperative residual bone height (RBH), surgical site, implant length and diameter, graft material, healing period before loading, prosthetic type, and opposing dentition. Results: The cumulative 3- and 5-year survival rates of the implants were 100% in the rhBMP-2 group and 95.5% and 86.4% in the non-rhBMP-2 group, respectively. The average 3- and 5-year MBL were 1.14 ± 0.67 mm, 1.30 ± 0.74 mm in the rhBMP-2 group and 1.68 ± 0.90 mm, 2.27 ± 1.29 mm in the non-rhBMP-2 group, respectively. Significant differences were observed between 3 and 5 years between the two groups. Conclusion: Addition of the rhBMP-2 to the graft materials positively affects implant placement in the grafted maxillary sinus in terms of implant survival and MBL when preoperative RBH is unfavorable.

Background: Sex-related disparities in clinical outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and the impact of sex on clinical outcomes after TAVR among different racial groups are undetermined. Objectives: This study assessed whether sex-specific differences in baseline clinical and anatomical characteristics affect clinical outcomes after TAVR and investigated the impact of sex on clinical outcomes among different racial groups. Methods: The TP-TAVR (Trans-Pacific TAVR) registry is a multinational cohort study of patients with severe aortic stenosis who underwent TAVR at 2 major centers in the United States and 1 major center in South Korea. The primary outcome was a composite of death from any cause, stroke, or rehospitalization after 1 year. Results: The incidence of the primary composite outcome was not significantly different between sexes (27.9% in men vs 28% in women; adjusted HR: 0.97; 95% CI: 0.79-1.20). This pattern was consistent in Asian (23.5% vs 23.3%; adjusted HR: 0.99; 95% CI: 0.69-1.41) and non-Asian (30.8% vs 31.6%; adjusted HR: 0.95; 95% CI: 0.72-1.24) cohorts, without a significant interaction between sex and racial group (P for interaction = 0.74). The adjusted risk for all-cause mortality was similar between sexes, regardless of racial group. However, the adjusted risk of stroke was significantly lower in male patients than in female patients, which was more prominent in the non-Asian cohort. Conclusions: Despite significantly different baseline and procedural characteristics, there were no sex-specific differences in the adjusted 1-year rates of primary composite outcomes and all-cause mortality, regardless of different racial groups. BACKGROUND: Prognostic value of poststenting fractional flow reserve (FFR) remains uncertain in patients undergoing an imaging-guided optimal stenting strategy. OBJECTIVES: The authors evaluated the prognostic value of poststenting FFR according to the intracoronary imaging-guided lesion preparation, stent sizing, and postdilation (iPSP) strategy to optimize stent outcomes. METHODS: Poststenting FFR assessment was performed in 1,108 lesions in 1,005 patients from the IRIS-FFR registry. The primary outcome was target vessel failure (TVF), a composite of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization at 5 years. RESULTS: At the index procedure, 326 lesions (29.4%) were treated using all 3 parts of the iPSP strategy. In the overall population, poststenting FFR was significantly associated with the risk of TVF at 5 years (per 0.01 increase of FFR, adjusted HR [aHR]: 0.94; 95% CI: 0.90-0.98; P = 0.004). Significant interaction was detected between poststenting FFR and the iPSP strategy on the risk of TVF at 5 years (P = 0.045 for interaction). In the iPSP group, poststenting FFR was not associated with the risk of TVF at 5 years (per 0.01 increase of FFR, aHR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.96-1.05; P = 0.95), whereas a significant association between poststenting FFR and TVF at 5 years was observed in the no iPSP group (per 0.01 increase of FFR, aHR: 0.94; 95% CI: 0.90-0.99; P = 0.009). CONCLUSIONS: Poststenting FFR showed a significant association with cardiac events. However, its prognostic value appeared to be limited after the application of an imaging-guided optimal stenting strategy.

Evidence regarding the use of Korean medicine (KM) for the conservative treatment of meniscus tears remains lacking. We aimed to evaluate clinical effectiveness and long-term follow-up outcomes in patients undergoing integrative KM treatment for meniscus tears. We analyzed the electronic medical records (EMRs) of 86 patients with meniscus tears and administered a follow-up survey. Patients treated at 1 of 4 KM hospitals between June 1, 2015, and June 30, 2020, were reviewed. KM treatment comprised herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, bee venom pharmacopuncture, Chuna therapy, and KM physiotherapy. The primary outcome was the numeric rating scale (NRS) score for knee pain; secondary outcomes were the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), EuroQol 5-dimension (EQ-5D) score, range of motion, and patient global impression of change. The NRS for knee pain was reduced by an average of 2.49 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.03-2.95) at discharge and 1.97 (95% CI: 2.03-2.95) at follow-up. The WOMAC decreased by an average of 15.52 (95% CI: 10.14-20.89) during hospital stay and 30.72 (95% CI: 24.58-36.87) at follow-up. The EQ-5D score increased by an average of 0.06 (95% CI: -0.14 to 0.02) at discharge and 0.19 (95% CI: -0.29 to -0.09) at follow up. KM treatment effectively reduced knee pain, improved knee joint function, and enhanced the quality of life in patients with a meniscus tear for a relatively long period after treatment.

BACKGROUND: The optimal surveillance strategy after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for high-risk patients with multivessel or left main coronary artery disease (CAD) remains uncertain. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to determine the prognostic role of routine functional testing in patients with multivessel or left main CAD who underwent PCI. METHODS: The POST-PCI (Pragmatic Trial Comparing Symptom-Oriented Versus Routine Stress Testing in High-Risk Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) trial randomized high-risk PCI patients to routine functional testing at 1 year or standard care alone during follow-up. This analysis focused on participants with multivessel or left main CAD. The primary outcome was a composite of death from any cause, myocardial infarction, or hospitalization for unstable angina at 2 years. RESULTS: Among 1,706 initially randomized patients, 1,192 patients with multivessel (n = 833) or left main (n = 359) were identified, with 589 in the functional testing group and 603 in the standard care group. Two-year incidences of primary outcome were similar between the functional testing group and the standard care group (6.2% vs 5.7%, respectively; HR: 1.09; 95% CI: 0.68-1.74; P = 0.73). This trend persisted in both groups of multivessel (6.2% vs 5.7%; HR: 1.09; 95% CI: 0.62-1.89; P = 0.78) and left main disease (6.2% vs 5.7%; HR: 1.09; 95% CI: 0.46-2.56; P = 0.85) (P for interaction = 0.90). Routine surveillance functional testing was associated with increased rates of invasive angiography and repeat revascularization beyond 1 year. CONCLUSIONS: In high-risk patients with multivessel or left main CAD who underwent PCI, there was no incremental clinical benefit from routine surveillance functional-testing compared with standard care alone during follow-up. A 28 GHz digitally controlled 6-bit phase shifter with a precision calibration technique in GaN high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT) technology is presented for Ka-band phased-array systems and applications. It comprises six stages, in which stages 1 and 2 for 5.625° and 11.25° are designed in the form of a switched-line circuit, and stages 3, 4, and 5 for 22.5°, 45°, and 90° are designed in the form of a switched-filter circuit. The final stage 6 for 180° is designed in a single-to-differential balun followed by a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch for achieving an efficient phase inversion. A novel continuous tuning calibration technique is proposed to improve the phase accuracy. It controls the gate bias voltage of off-state HEMTs at the stage 6 SPDT switch for fine calibration of the output phase. Fabricated in a 0.15 µm GaN HEMT process using a die size of 1.75 mm2, the circuit produces 64 phase states at 28 GHz with a 5.625° step. The experimental results show that the Root-Mean-Square (RMS) phase error is significantly improved from 8.56° before calibration to 1.08° after calibration. It is also found that the calibration does not induce significant changes for other performances such as the insertion loss, RMS amplitude error, and input-referred P1dB. This work successfully demonstrates that the GaN technology can be applied to millimeter-wave high-power phased-array transceiver systems.

Autonomous driving systems heavily depend on perception tasks for optimal performance. However, the prevailing datasets are primarily focused on scenarios with clear visibility (i.e., sunny and daytime). This concentration poses challenges in training deep-learning-based perception models for environments with adverse conditions (e.g., rainy and nighttime). In this paper, we propose an unsupervised network designed for the translation of images from day-to-night to solve the ill-posed problem of learning the mapping between domains with unpaired data. The proposed method involves extracting both semantic and geometric information from input images in the form of attention maps. We assume that the multi-task network can extract semantic and geometric information during the estimation of semantic segmentation and depth maps, respectively. The image-to-image translation network integrates the two distinct types of extracted information, employing them as spatial attention maps. We compare our method with related works both qualitatively and quantitatively. The proposed method shows both qualitative and qualitative improvements in visual presentation over related work.

The fabrication of a highly controlled gold (Au) nanohole (NH) array via tip-based lithography is improved by incorporating a sacrificial layer-a tip-crash buffer layer. This inclusion mitigates scratches during the nano-indentation process by employing a 300 nm thick poly(methyl methacrylate) layer as a sacrificial layer on top of the Au film. Such a precaution ensures minimal scratches on the Au film, facilitating the creation of sub-50 nm Au NHs with a 15 nm gap between the Au NHs. The precision of this method exceeds that of fabricating Au NHs without a sacrificial layer. Demonstrating its versatility, this Au NH array is utilized in two distinct applications: as a dry etching mask to form a molybdenum disulfide hole array and as a catalyst in metal-assisted chemical etching, resulting in conical-shaped silicon nanostructures. Additionally, a significant electric field is generated when Au nanoparticles (NPs) are placed within the Au NHs. This effect arises from coupling electromagnetic waves, concentrated by the Au NHs and amplified by the Au NPs. A notable result of this configuration is the enhancement factor of surface-enhanced Raman scattering, which is an order of magnitude greater than that observed with just Au NHs and Au NPs alone.
