RESUMO

PURPOSE: Biopsies play a crucial role in determining the classification and staging of tumors. Ultrasound is frequently used in this procedure to provide real-time anatomical information. Using augmented reality (AR), surgeons can visualize ultrasound data and spatial navigation information seamlessly integrated with real tissues. This innovation facilitates faster and more precise biopsy operations. METHODS: We have developed an augmented reality biopsy navigation system characterized by low display latency and high accuracy. Ultrasound data is initially read by an image capture card and streamed to Unity via net communication. In Unity, navigation information is rendered and transmitted to the HoloLens 2 device using holographic remoting. Concurrently, a retro-reflective tool tracking method is implemented on the HoloLens 2, enabling the simultaneous tracking of the ultrasound probe and biopsy needle. Distinct navigation information is provided during in-plane and out-of-plane punctuation. To evaluate the effectiveness of our system, we conducted a study involving ten participants, assessing puncture accuracy and biopsy time in comparison to traditional methods. RESULTS: Ultrasound image was streamed from the ultrasound device to augmented reality headset with 122.49±11.61ms latency, while only 16.22±11.25ms was taken after data acquisition from image capture card. Navigation accuracy reached 1.23±0.68mm in the image plane and 0.95±0.70mm outside the image plane, within a depth range of 200 millimeters. Remarkably, the utilization of our system led to 98% and 95% success rate in out-of-plane and in-plane biopsy, among ten participants with little ultrasound experience. CONCLUSION: To sum up, this paper introduces an AR-based ultrasound biopsy navigation system characterized by high navigation accuracy and minimal latency. The system provides distinct visualization contents during in-plane and out-of-plane operations according to their different characteristics. Use case study in this paper proved that our system can help young surgeons perform biopsy faster and more accurately.

The Beijing Healthy Aging Cohort Study (BHACS) was established to supplement the limited data of a large representative cohort of older people based on the general population and was designed to evaluate the prevalence, incidence, and natural history of cognitive decline, functional disability, and conventional vascular risk factors. The aim was to determine the evolution of these conditions by estimating the rates and determinants of progression and regression to adverse outcomes, including dementia, cardiovascular events, cancer, and all-cause death. It can therefore provide evidence to help policy makers develop better policies to promote healthy aging in China. BHACS consisted of three cohorts (BLSA, CCHS-Beijing, and BECHCS) in Beijing with a total population of 11 235 (6281 in urban and 4954 in rural areas) and an age range of 55 years or older (55-101 years) with a mean age of 70.35 ± 7.71 years (70.69 ± 7.62 years in urban and 69.92 ± 7.80 years in rural areas). BHACS-BLSA conducted the baseline survey in 2009 with a multistage stratification-random clustering procedure for people aged 55 years or older; BHACS-CCHS-Beijing conducted the baseline survey in 2013-2015 with a stratified multistage cluster random sampling method for people aged 55 years or older; and BHACS-BECHCS conducted the baseline survey in 2010-2014 with two-stage cluster random sampling method for people aged 60 years or older. Data were collected through questionnaires, physical measurements, and laboratory analyses. Topics covered by BHACS include a wide range of physical and mental health indicators, lifestyles and personal, family, and socio-economic determinants of health. There are no immediate plans to make the cohort data freely available to the public, but specific proposals for further collaboration are welcome. Adult neurogenesis confers the hippocampus with unparalleled neural plasticity, essential for intricate cognitive functions. The specific influence of sparse newborn neurons (NBNs) in modulating neural activities and subsequently steering behavior, however, remains obscure. Using an engineered NBN-tetanus toxin mouse model (NBN-TeTX), we noninvasively silenced NBNs, elucidating their crucial role in impulse inhibition and cognitive flexibility as evidenced through Morris water maze reversal learning and Go/Nogo task in operant learning. Task-based functional MRI (tb-fMRI) paired with operant learning revealed dorsal hippocampal hyperactivation during the Nogo task in male NBN-TeTX mice, suggesting that hippocampal hyperexcitability might underlie the observed behavioral deficits. Additionally, resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) exhibited enhanced functional connectivity between the dorsal and ventral dentate gyrus following NBN silencing. Further investigations into the activities of PV+ interneurons and mossy cells highlighted the indispensability of NBNs in maintaining the hippocampal excitation/inhibition balance. Our findings emphasize that the neural plasticity driven by NBNs extensively modulates the hippocampus, sculpting inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility.

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) increases the risk of cognitive decline, but the extent to which this can be offset by adherence to an active integrated lifestyle is unknown. METHODS: This prospective study used the baseline and 2-year follow-up data of 2537 dementia-free elderly ≥60 from PINDEC Project. Lifestyle factors (including physical exercise, social interaction, leisure activities, sleep quality, smoking, and alcohol consumption) were collected and the integrated score was calculated. Participants were divided into three groups based on integrated score tertiles (inactive, ≤3 score; intermediate, 4 score; and active, ≥5). Logistic regression was used in data analysis. RESULTS: 35.2 % participants had 5-6 healthy components, while only 5.4 % had all 6 healthy lifestyles. The multiadjusted odds ratios (ORs, 95 % confidence interval) of early cognitive decline was 1.223 (0.799-1.871) and 1.832 (1.140-2.943) for participants with only one CMD and any two or more CMDs, respectively. An inverse dose-response relationship was found between lifestyle scores and early cognitive decline (Ptrend = 0.017). In participants with active lifestyle, the OR for early cognitive decline comparing the CMDs status of any two or more CMDs vs. CMDs-free was 0.778 (95%CI: 0.302-2.007). Participants with inactive lifestyle and any two or more CMDs had a near 3.4-fold increased risk of early cognitive decline than those without CMDs who had intermediate to active lifestyle (OR = 3.422, 95%CI: 1.764-6.638). LIMITATIONS: Our research lacks information about nutrition. CONCLUSIONS: A dose-response relationship exists between CMDs status and risk of early cognitive decline. However, adherence to an active integrated lifestyle may mitigate this risk.

The theoretical capacity of pristine silicon as anodes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) can reach up to 4200 mAh g-1 , however, the low electrical conductivity and the huge volume expansion limit their practical application. To address this challenge, a precursor strategy has been explored to induce the curling of graphene oxide (GO) flakes and the enclosing of Si nanoparticles by selecting protonated chitosan as both assembly inducer and carbon precursor. The Si nanoparticles are dispersed first in a slurry of GO by ball milling, then the resulting dispersion is dried by a spray drying process to achieve instantaneous solution evaporation and compact encapsulation of silicon particles with GO. An Al2 O3 layer is constructed on the surface of Si@rGO@C-SD composites by the atomic layer deposition method to modify the solid electrolyte interface. This strategy enhances obviously the electrochemical performance of the Si as anode for LIBs, including excellent long-cycle stability of 930 mAh g-1 after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g-1 , satisfied initial Coulomb efficiency of 76.7%, and high rate ability of 806 mAh g-1 at 5000 mA g-1 . This work shows a potential solution to the shortcomings of Si-based anodes and provides meaningful insights for constructing high-energy anodes for LIBs.

Objective: To explore the application effect of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) perioperative plan in the treatment of complex appendicitis in children, and further enrich the implementation plan of ERAS in the field of pediatric surgery. Method: This study selected 122 children who underwent laparoscopic complex appendectomy at Inner Mongolia Maternal and Child Health Hospital and Baotou Fourth Hospital from August 2018 to July 2022, and randomly divided them into a traditional surgery group (TS) and an enhanced recovery surgery group (ERAS). The changes of white blood cell (WBC), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (CRP), pro Calcitonin (PCT) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) before and after surgery were compared. The degree of pain, recovery time of intestinal function, length of hospital stay, hospital costs, postoperative complications and parental satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Result: The WBC and CRP levels in the ERAS group at 6 h after surgery, as well as the IL-6 levels on the 3rd day after surgery, were lower than those in the TS group. Meanwhile, the analgesic effect of ERAS group at 3 h and 6 h after surgery was better than that of TS group. And the ERAS group had a shorter postoperative first exhaust time, fewer overall hospital stays, and lower hospitalization costs. In addition, the ERAS group had high parental satisfaction during hospitalization. There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative complications between the two groups of children. Conclusion: ERAS can promote postoperative recovery of children, reduce surgical stress, save family medical expenses, alleviate the pain of children, and improve parental satisfaction. It is a safe and effective method for treating complex appendicitis in children.

BACKGROUND: Although hypoalbuminemia was associated with high risk of mortality in community-dwelling older adults, as well as in the hospitalized older adults, little is known among centenarians. And there are limited data on whether having cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) is associated with additive effects. METHODS: Baseline examinations including a determination of albumin levels were performed in 1002 Chinese centenarians from January 2014 through to December 2016, and the survival status was subsequently ascertained until 31 May 2021. Cox proportional risk model was performed to assess the risk of all-cause mortality associated with albumin levels and hypoalbuminemia combined with CMDs. RESULTS: Of 1002 participants included in the analysis, the mean level of albumin was 38.5 g/L (± standard deviation, 4.0 g/L), and 174 (17.4%) had hypoalbuminemia (albumin < 35 g/L). The multivariable analyses showed that albumin level was negatively associated with all-cause mortality (Ptrend < 0.05). Compared to normoalbuminemia, hypoalbuminemia was associated with an increased mortality risk in the overall participants (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.55, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.22-1.97). Furthermore, the HR (95% CI) of hypoalbuminemia combined with multiple CMDs was 2.15 (1.14-4.07). There was evidence of an additive deleterious dose effect of an increasing number of CMDs (Ptrend = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Hypoalbuminemia is associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality in Chinese centenarians, and this risk is more pronounced among centenarians with multiple cardiometabolic diseases. Our findings suggest that older adults with hypoalbuminemia, especially comorbid multiple CMDs warrant early identification and management.

Two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is considered as a highly promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its unique layer structure, large plane spacing, and high theoretical specific capacity; however, the overlap of MoS2 nanosheets and inherently low electrical conductivity lead to rapid capacity decay, resulting in poor cycling stability and low multiplicative performance. This severely limits its practical application in LIBs. To overcome the above problems, composite fibers with a core//sheath structure have been designed and fabricated. The sheath moiety of MoS2 nanosheets is uniformly anchored by the hydrothermal treatment of the axial of carbon nanofibers derived from an electrospinning method (CNFs//MoS2). The quantity of the MoS2 nanosheets on the CNFs substrates can be tuned by controlling the amount of utilized thiourea precursor. The influence of the MoS2 nanosheets on the electrochemical properties of the composite fibers has been investigated. The synergistic effect between MoS2 and carbon nanofibers can enhance their electrical conductivity and ionic reversibility as an anode for LIBs. The composite fibers deliver a high reversible capacity of 866.5 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A g-1 and maintain a capacity of 703.3 mA h g-1 after a long cycle of 500 charge-discharge processes at 1 A g-1.

Clean coal technology is the important thrust to the achievement of "carbon neutralization"; clearing the transformation mechanism of thiophene, the dominant organic sulfur species in coal, is conducive to promoting the development of sulfur removal technology. DFT calculations were performed, and 28 reaction paths were proposed in this research, clarifying the decomposition mechanism of thiophene and the fixation mechanism of H2S. Thiophene is pyrolyzed mainly through the hydrogen-transfer reaction, which occurs at above 2000 K rather than 800 K. The hydrogen transfer between the C-C bond rather than the C-S bond causes the ring opening. Hydrogen promotes the decomposition of thiophene, which happens at 800 K, with a molar ratio of hydrogen to thiophene of 5. Therefore, thiophene is decomposed at 800 K mainly through the hydrogenation reaction that occurs at para carbons and the C-S bond, the H2S elimination reaction, and the generation of ethane. Furthermore, H2S can be converted into thiophene through the addition reaction with unsaturated hydrocarbon, or the dehydration reaction with hydroxyl or carboxyl groups. The combination between H2S and the aliphatic compound occurs at 800 K, which is mainly influenced by the species of the functional group rather than the composition and morphology of the carbon chain. Meanwhile, the conversion of aromatic compounds tends to the generation of aryl mercaptan rather than thiophene at around 800 K.

Background: As the focal point of epidemic prevention and control, the mental health of COVID-19 patients cannot be ignored. Online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) allows for the provision of conveniently accessible, effective and low-cost interventions on a large scale. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness of an online MBSR intervention in alleviating anxiety and depression among asymptomatic/mild patients limited by COVID-19-related restrictions. Methods: Fifty-eight patients treated in Sanya Fangcang hospital were randomly allocated to either to the experimental group (n = 29) following daily, for 5 days, an online-based mindfulness intervention or to the control group (n = 29). Patients from both groups underwent online questionnaires including assessment of anxiety and depression status at pre- and post-tests using Self-rating Anxiety Scale and Self-Rating Depression Scale. Results: After the online-based MBSR program, the anxiety and depression scores of the patients in the MBSR group decreased significantly in comparison to the scores of those in the control group (respectively η2 = 0.175, η2 = 0.215, p < 0.001). And the proportion of severe anxiety and depression patients in the MBSR group decreased to 0% which lower than the control group, and the proportion of light anxiety and depression patients was significantly more than that in the control group after the MBSR intervention. Conclusion: The online-based MBSR intervention appears to be an effective way of alleviating anxiety and depression symptoms among COVID-19 patients with associated quarantine in Fangcang hospital. Given the seriousness of mental health threat that could be posed by this ongoing pandemic, our study provides a new idea and method for cost-effective and time-efficient interventions in the future of epidemic prevention and control.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease has become the leading cause of death worldwide, but there is a lack of data on whether cardiovascular health (CVH) is associated with elderly mortality in China. We investigated the relationship between the ideal CVH score of Chinese elderly and the all-cause mortality. METHODS: The Beijing Elderly Comprehensive Health Cohort Study included a total of 4,499 participants aged 60 years and above. The CVH metric was calculated at baseline and had a score ranging from 0 to 12. The relationship of CVH metrics with all-cause mortality was investigated using Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. The robustness of results was tested using subgroup and sensitivity analysis. RESULTS: The median CVH score among participants was 8.00 (2.00), with only 8.0% scoring 11-12 points. 667 deaths were observed during an average follow-up time of 8.2 years. Participants with a CVH score of 11-12 had a decreased risk of all-cause mortality when compared to those with a CVH score of 0-4(HR = 0.584, 95% CI: 0.373-0.913). Participants had a 7.5% lower risk of all-cause death with each unit higher CVH score (HR = 0.925, 95%CI: 0.885-0.967) with a linearly decreasing trend (P nonlinear = 0.575). The relationships were greater in younger elderly people and stroke patients (P interaction = 0.011 and 0.037. respectively). The consistency of significant trends in sensitivity analysis shows the robustness of association (P trend < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Among the Chinese elderly, there was a linear relationship between improving CVH scores and a lower risk of all-cause mortality. Because of the enormous benefits brought by one point, strategies are essential for improving cardiovascular health attainment. Objective: This study aims to explore the real-time navigation with guide template using an augmented reality head-mounted device (ARHMD) for pedicle screw placement. Methods: The spatial coordinate relationships between augmented reality images and real objects were established through the custom-made guide template, and the registration and tracking were completed using an ARHMD. The feasibility and accuracy of this method were verified by pedicle screw placement in 2 lumbar models. According to the Gertzbein-Robbins grading scale, the accuracy of pedicle screw placement was assessed. The navigation errors were estimated by measuring the deviation values of entry point and trajectory angle. Results: A total of 20 pedicle K-wires were placed into L1-L5 in 2 lumbar models, which were successfully completed, with an average time of 11.5 min per model and 69 s per screw. The overall K-wires placement accuracy was 100% (20 screws). The navigation error was 2.77 ± 0.82 mm for the deviation value of entry point, and 3.03° ± 0.94° for the deviation value of trajectory angle. Conclusions: The application of an ARHMD combined with guide template for pedicle screw placement is a promising navigation approach.

Quantum liquid, in the form of a self-bound droplet, is stabilized by a subtle balance between the mean-field contribution and quantum fluctuations. While a liquid-gas transition is expected when such a balance is broken, it remains elusive whether liquid-gas critical points exist in the quantum regime. Here, we study the quantum criticality in a binary Bose mixture undergoing the liquid-gas transition. We show that, beyond a narrow stability window of the self-bound liquid, a liquid-gas coexistence persists, which eventually transits into a homogeneous mixture. Importantly, we identify two distinct critical points where the liquid-gas coexistence terminates. These critical points are characterized by rich critical behaviors in their vicinity, including divergent susceptibility, unique phonon-mode softening, and enhanced density correlations. The liquid-gas transition and the critical points can be readily explored in ultracold atoms confined to a box potential. Our work highlights the thermodynamic approach as a powerful tool in revealing the quantum liquid-gas criticality, and paves the way for further studies of critical phenomena in quantum liquids.

IMPORTANCE: Little evidence on the association between adiposity measures and all-cause mortality was observed among centenarians, and no targeted development of optimal weight recommendations for them. OBJECTIVE: To comprehensively assess the association between adiposity indices and all-cause mortality among centenarians. DESIGN SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This prospective population-based cohort study included 1002 centenarians registered in 18 counties and cities in Hainan Province from June 2014 to May 2021. The age of participants at baseline was provided by the civil affairs bureau and verified before enrollment. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: All-cause mortality was rigorously confirmed as the primary outcome. BMI was calculated by height and weight. BRI was calculated by height and waist circumference. RESULTS: At baseline, the mean (SD) age was 102.8 ± 2.7 years, and 180 participants (18.0%) were men. The median follow-up time was 5.0 (4.8-5.5) years, with 522 deaths. In BMI categories, compared with the lowest group (mean BMI = 14.2 kg/m2), the highest group (mean BMI = 22.2 kg/m2) had lower mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.61; 95%CI, 0.47-0.79) (P for trend = 0.001). In BRI categories, compared with the lowest group (mean BRI = 2.3), the highest group (mean BRI = 5.7) had lower mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.66; 95%CI, 0.51-0.85) (P for trend = 0.002), and the risk did not decrease after BRI exceeded 3.9 in women. Higher BRI was associated with lower HRs after adjusting for interaction with comorbidities status. E-values analysis suggested robustness to unmeasured confounding. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: BMI and BRI were inverse linear associated with mortality risk in the whole population, while BRI was observed to be J-shaped in women. The interaction of lower multiple complication incidence and BRI had a significant effect on the reduced risk of all-cause mortality.

PURPOSE: Plant-based diets, particularly when rich in healthy plant foods, have been associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. However, the impact of plant-based diets that distinguish between healthy and unhealthy plant foods on cardiometabolic biomarkers remains unclear. METHODS: Dietary information was collected by two 24-h recalls among 34,785 adults from a nationwide cross-sectional study. Plasma levels of insulin, C-peptide, glucose, C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell (WBC) count, triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured. Linear regression was used to evaluate the percentage difference in plasma marker concentrations by three plant-based diet indices, namely the overall plant-based diet index (PDI), the healthful PDI (hPDI), and the unhealthful PDI (uPDI). RESULTS: Greater hPDI-adherence scores (comparing extreme quartiles) were associated with lower levels of insulin, Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), TG/HDL-C ratio, CRP, WBC count, and TG, and higher levels of HDL-C, with the percentage differences of - 14.55, - 15.72, - 11.57, - 14.95, - 5.26, - 7.10, and 5.01, respectively (all Ptrend ≤ 0.001). Conversely, uPDI was associated with higher levels of insulin, C-peptide, HOMA-IR, TG/HDL-C ratio, CRP, WBC count, and TG, but lower HDL-C, with the percentage differences of 13.71, 14.00, 14.10, 10.43, 3.32, 8.00, and - 4.98 (all Ptrend ≤ 0.001), respectively. Overall PDI was only associated with lower levels of CRP and WBC count (all Ptrend ≤ 0.001). CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that hPDI may have positive, whereas uPDI may have negative impacts on multiple cardiometabolic risk markers, and underscore the need to consider the quality of plant foods in future PDI studies.

During traditional surgeries, planning and instrument guidance is displayed on an external screen. Recent developments of augmented reality (AR) techniques can overcome obstacles including hand-eye discoordination and heavy mental load. Among these AR technologies, optical see-through (OST) schemes with stereoscopic displays can provide depth perception and retain the physical scene for safety considerations. However, limitations still exist in certain AR systems and the influence of these factors on surgical performance is yet to explore. To this end, experiments of multi-scale surgical tasks were carried out to compare head-mounted display (HMD) AR and autostereoscopic image overlay (AIO) AR, concerning objective performance and subjective evaluation. To solely analyze effects brought by display techniques, the tracking system in each included display system was identical and similar tracking accuracy was proved by a preliminary experiment. Focus and context rendering was utilized to enhance in-situ visualization for surgical guidance. Latency values of all display systems were assessed and a delay experiment proved the latency differences had no significant impact on user performance. Results of multi-scale surgical tasks showed that HMD outperformed in detailed operations probably due to stable resolution along the depth axis, while AIO had better performance in larger-scale operations for better depth perception. This paper helps point out the critical limitations of current OST AR techniques and potentially promotes the progress of AR applications in surgical guidance.

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) for navigation purposes has shown beneficial in assisting physicians during the performance of surgical procedures. These applications commonly require knowing the pose of surgical tools and patients to provide visual information that surgeons can use during the performance of the task. Existing medical-grade tracking systems use infrared cameras placed inside the Operating Room (OR) to identify retro-reflective markers attached to objects of interest and compute their pose. Some commercially available AR Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) use similar cameras for self-localization, hand tracking, and estimating the objects' depth. This work presents a framework that uses the built-in cameras of AR HMDs to enable accurate tracking of retro-reflective markers without the need to integrate any additional electronics into the HMD. The proposed framework can simultaneously track multiple tools without having previous knowledge of their geometry and only requires establishing a local network between the headset and a workstation. Our results show that the tracking and detection of the markers can be achieved with an accuracy of 0.09±0.06 mm on lateral translation, 0.42 ±0.32 mm on longitudinal translation and 0.80 ±0.39° for rotations around the vertical axis. Furthermore, to showcase the relevance of the proposed framework, we evaluate the system's performance in the context of surgical procedures. This use case was designed to replicate the scenarios of k-wire insertions in orthopedic procedures. For evaluation, seven surgeons were provided with visual navigation and asked to perform 24 injections using the proposed framework. A second study with ten participants served to investigate the capabilities of the framework in the context of more general scenarios. Results from these studies provided comparable accuracy to those reported in the literature for AR-based navigation procedures.

As one of the important timber species in China, Cunninghamia lanceolata is widely distributed in southern China. The information of tree individuals and crown plays an important role in accurately monitoring forest resources. Therefore, it is particularly significant to accurately grasp such information of individual C. lanceolata tree. For high-canopy closed forest stands, the key to correctly extract such information is whether the crowns of mutual occlusion and adhesion can be accurately segmented. Taking the Fujian Jiangle State-owned Forest Farm as the research area and using the UAV image as the data source, we developed a method to extract crown information of individual tree based on deep learning method and watershed algorithm. Firstly, the deep learning neural network model U-Net was used to segment the coverage area of the canopy of C. lanceolata, and then the traditional image segmentation algorithm was used to segment the individual tree to obtain the number and crown information of individual tree. Under the condition of maintaining the same training set, validation set and test set, the extraction results of the canopy coverage area by the U-Net model and traditional machine learning methods [random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM)] were compared. Then, two individual tree segmentation results were compared, one using the marker-controlled watershed algorithm, and the other using the combination of the U-Net model and marker-controlled watershed algorithm. The results showed that the segmentation accuracy (SA), precision, IoU (intersection over union) and F1-score (harmonic mean of precision and recall) of the U-Net model were higher than those of RF and SVM. Compared with RF, the value of those four indicators increased by 4.6%, 14.9%, 7.6% and 0.05, respectively. Compared with SVM, the four indicators increased by 3.3%, 8.5%, 8.1% and 0.05, respectively. In terms of extracting the number of trees, the overall accuracy (OA) of the U-Net model combined with the marker-controlled watershed algorithm was 3.7% higher than that of the marker-controlled watershed algorithm, with the mean absolute error (MAE) being decreased by 3.1%. In terms of extracting crown area and crown width of individual tree, R2 increased by 0.11 and 0.09, mean squared error decreased by 8.49 m2 and 4.27 m, and MAE decreased by 2.93 m2 and 1.72 m, respectively. The combination of deep learning U-Net model and watershed algorithm could overcome the challenges in accurately extracting the number of trees and the crown information of individual tree of high-density pure C. lanceolata plantations. It was an efficient and low-cost method of extracting tree crown parameters, which could provide a basis for developing intelligent forest resource monitoring.

The association between time-restricted eating (TRE) and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is less studied. Moreover, whether the association is independent of physical exercise or diet quality or quantity is uncertain. In this nationwide cross-sectional study of 3813 participants, the timing of food intakes was recorded by 24-h recalls; NAFLD was defined through vibration-controlled transient elastography in the absence of other causes of chronic liver disease. OR and 95 % CI were estimated using logistic regression. Participants with daily eating window of ≤ 8 h had lower odds of NAFLD (OR = 0·70, 95 % CI: 0·52, 0·93), compared with those with ≥ 10 h window. Early (05.00-15.00) and late TRE (11.00-21.00) showed inverse associations with NAFLD prevalence without statistical heterogeneity (Pheterogeneity = 0·649) with OR of 0·73 (95 % CI: 0·36, 1·47) and 0·61 (95 % CI: 0·44, 0·84), respectively. Such inverse association seemed stronger in participants with lower energy intake (OR = 0·58, 95 % CI: 0·38, 0·89, Pinteraction = 0·020). There are no statistical differences in the TRE-NAFLD associations according to physical activity (Pinteraction = 0·390) or diet quality (Pinteraction = 0·110). TRE might be associated with lower likelihood of NAFLD. Such inverse association is independent of physical activity and diet quality and appears stronger in individuals consuming lower energy. Given the potential misclassification of TRE based on one- or two-day recall in the analysis, epidemiological studies with validated methods for measuring the habitual timing of dietary intake are warranted.

PURPOSE: Simvastatin is a prodrug of the potent 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor. The main purpose of the current study is to assess the accurate function of simvastatin on osteoporosis of extremity bones in aging rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty 15-month-old SD rats were divided into five groups (four simvastatin groups and one control group). The rats in four simvastatin groups were fed with different doses of simvastatin (5, 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg/d, respectively) for 3 months, whereas the rats in control group were fed the equal physiological saline. Calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and the lipid spectrum in serum were measured. Biochemical markers of bone metabolism, osteocalcin (OC), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (Trap-5b), were analyzed using ELISA. The content of adipocytes in bone marrow was analyzed by histological staining. Finally, the bone quality of the femur and tibia were evaluated using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), peri-quantity CT (pQCT), and the 3-point bending biomechanical test. RESULTS: Simvastatin reduced serum triglycerides (TG), and 10 mg/kg/d of simvastatin significantly reduced the content of adipocytes in bone marrow compared to the control group. However, statistically significant differences between the simvastatin groups and the control group were not found in the CA, P, OC, Trap-5b, or the evaluation indexes of bone quality from DEXA, pQCT, and biomechanical tests. CONCLUSION: Simvastatin could not prevent osteoporosis of the extremity bones in aging rats.
