BACKGROUND: Deficits in speech and emotion perception are intertwined with psychiatric symptoms. How the happy prosody embedded in speech affects target speech-in-noise recognition (TSR) and relates to psychiatric symptoms in patients with schizophrenia (SCHs) remains unclear. This study examined spontaneous brain activity underlying happy TSR and its association with psychiatric symptom dimensions in SCHs. METHODS: Fifty-four SCHs and 59 healthy control participants (HCs) underwent the TSR task, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) assessment, and magnetic resonance imaging scanning. Multivariate analyses of partial least squares (PLS) regression were used to explore the associations between whole-brain fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF), happy-neutral TSR (target pseudo-sentences were uttered in happy and neutral prosodies), and five PANSS factor scores (excitement/hostility, depression/anxiety, cognition, positive, and negative). RESULTS: The happy prosody did not alter TSR or TSR changing rates in either SCHs or HCs. SCHs exhibited lower happy and neutral TSR than HCs. A fALFF PLS component (including precentral/postcentral gyrus, Subcallosal Cortex, several temporal regions, and cerebellum) was associated with happy and neutral TSR. SCHs demonstrated higher PLS fALFF scores and PLS TSR scores than HCs. In SCHs, PLS fALFF scores were correlated with the PANSS positive factor score, and PLS TSR scores were correlated with the PANSS cognition factor score. CONCLUSIONS: The positive-psychiatric-symptoms-related spontaneous activity profile was associated with happy and neutral TSR, contributing to the cognition psychiatric symptoms dimension. The findings suggest the potential to improve positive and cognitive symptoms by enhancing happy and neutral TSR in schizophrenia based on neuroplasticity.

Source monitoring (SM) refers to attributing sources of information. There are various methods for measuring SM in children. We searched the PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases from their inception to February 24, 2023, to summarize the methods and measures of SM in children, identifying 141 studies. The procedure for the SM tasks encompassed encoding, interval and testing. The encoding tasks were classified into ground-based activities (n = 67), computer-based experiments (n = 42) and mixed methods (n = 34). The testing approaches were categorized into old/new recognition and source discrimination, n-alternative forced-choice, yes/no questions and recall/direct questions. Among 10 commonly used indicators, source-correct, source-incorrect, discrimination score and source accuracy were recommended to present the SM function. We also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different SM methods in children, providing a reference for researchers to design and select SM measurements that meet their research objectives.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) represents a unique myocardial disease originating from diabetic metabolic disturbances that is characterized by myocardial fibrosis and diastolic dysfunction. While recent research regarding the pathogenesis and treatment of DCM has focused primarily on myocardial cells, nonmyocardial cells-including fibroblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), endothelial cells (ECs), and immune cells-also contribute significantly to the pathogenesis of DCM. Among various therapeutic targets, fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) has been identified as a promising agent because of its cardioprotective effects that extend to nonmyocardial cells. In this review, we aim to elucidate the role of nonmyocardial cells in DCM and underscore the potential of FGF21 as a therapeutic strategy for these cells.

To design an efficient, low-cost, and easily recoverable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst, this work focuses on two-dimensional vdW ferromagnetic Cr2Ge2Te6. Based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates during the OER process will gradually decrease the bandgap of Cr2Ge2Te6, thus increasing its electrical conductivity. More importantly, we propose a two active sites synergistic mechanism through a hydroxyl-boosted pathway. With the combined action of the two active sites, the binding between the oxygen-containing intermediates and the surfaces is enhanced. The enhancement comes from dramatic charge-transfer-induced Te-3p and O-2p orbital enhancement. As a result, the overpotential of the OER reduces from 1.25 to 0.59 V. We hope these findings will pave the way for more experimental and theoretical research to explore the potential applications of two-dimensional vdW ferromagnetic materials in energy storage and conversion.

Children all over the world suffer from atopic dermatitis (AD), a prevalent condition that impairs their health. Corticosteroids, which have long-term negative effects, are frequently used to treat AD. There has been a growing body of research on the gut microbiota's function in AD. Nevertheless, the function and underlying mechanisms of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in AD children remain to be established. Therefore, in order to assess the preventive effects of FMT treatment on AD and investigate the mechanisms, we constructed an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced juvenile mouse AD model in this investigation. This study explored the role and mechanism of FMT treatment in AD through 16S RNA sequencing, pathological histological staining, molecular biology, and Flow cytometry. Results demonstrated that the FMT treatment improved the gut microbiota's diversity and composition, bringing it back to a level similar to that of a close donor. Following FMT treatment, OVA-specific antibodies were inhibited, immunoglobulin (Ig) E production was decreased, the quantity of mast cells and eosinophils was decreased, and specific inflammatory markers in the skin and serum were decreased. Further mechanistic studies revealed that FMT treatment induced CD103+ DCs and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)/programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) expression in skin-draining lymph nodes and promoted Treg production to induce immune tolerance and suppress skin inflammation. Meanwhile, changes in the gut microbiota were substantially correlated with Th2 cytokines, OVA-specific antibodies, and PD-L1/PD-1. In conclusion, FMT regulates the Th1/Th2 immunological balance and the gut microbiota. It may also inhibit AD-induced allergy responses through the PD-L1/PD-1 pathway, and providing a unique idea and possibly a fresh approach to the treatment of AD.

The design of an ideal catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is essential for electrocatalytic water-splitting. The Ni3S2 (101) facet is considered a suitable electrocatalyst owing to its good conductivity and stability, but high performance remains a challenge. Our first-principles calculations show that transition metal (TM) doping can effectively modulate p-d orbital coupling resulting from TM doping-induced charge redistribution on active site Ni atoms, thus enhancing the orbital interaction between Ni-3d xz and O-2p y as well as between Ni-3d z2 and O-2p x . This improves the binding of the active site and oxygen-containing intermediates, thereby reducing the overpotential of the OER. Mo-doped Ni3S2 can be considered a compelling OER catalyst for its better stability and lower overpotential of 0.23 V.

The tetraspanin family of membrane proteins is essential for controlling different biological processes such as cell migration, penetration, adhesion, growth, apoptosis, angiogenesis and metastasis. The present review summarized the current knowledge regarding the expression and roles of tetraspanins in different types of cancer of the digestive system, including gastric, liver, colorectal, pancreatic, esophageal and oral cancer. Depending on the type and context of cancer, tetraspanins can act as either tumor promoters or suppressors. In the present review, the importance of tetraspanins in serving as biomarkers and targets for different types of digestive system­related cancer was emphasized. Additionally, the molecular mechanisms underlying the involvement of tetraspanins in cancer progression and metastasis were explored. Furthermore, the current challenges are addressed and future research directions for advancing investigations related to tetraspanins in the context of digestive system malignancies are proposed.

Toddalia asiatica (L.) Lam. (TA) is a traditional folk medicine of ethnic minorities in the southwest of China. It is widely used in the treatment of dispersing blood stasis and activating blood. However, the effective substance and pharmacological mechanism have not been fully elucidated. The zebrafish larvae were treated with Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) to establish a thrombus model, and the staining intensity of zebrafish red blood cells was analyzed. The antithrombotic activity of TA was verified for the first time, and it was found that the inhibition rate of TA on thrombosis was up to 60.85 %. The chemical ingredients of TA were collected by combining UPLC-HRMS analysis and the literature research. Network pharmacology revealed that six key targets were obtained, which including TNF, AKT1, EGFR, PTGS2, PPARG, and IFNG. It showed that the PI3K-Akt pathway was a core signaling pathway. Coagulation factor III(TF), playing an important role in the process of hemostasis and thrombosis, which ranks high in the PPI network. Moreover, the results of molecular docking showed that the active components had a strong binding force with TF, which indicated that TF might be the key target of TA in treating thrombosis. In vitro experiments showed that TA could inhibit TNF-α-induced high expression of TF in EA.hy926 cells. In addition, TA could inhibit TNF-α-activated expression of Akt, IκBα and P65 protein phosphorylation in PI3K-Akt pathway. The results showed that TA had antithrombotic activity and exerted an antithrombotic effect by inhibiting the expression of TF through the PI3K-Akt-NF-κB signaling pathway.

The oxygen evolution reaction plays a vital role in modern energy conversion and storage, and developing cost-efficient oxygen evolution reaction catalysts with industrially relevant activity and durability is highly desired but still challenging. Here, we report an efficient and durable FeNi hydroxide organic framework nanosheet array catalyst that competently affords long-term oxygen evolution reaction at industrial-grade current densities in alkaline electrolyte. The desirable high-intensity performance is attributed to three aspects as follows. First, two-dimensional nanosheet porous arrays with maximum specific surface facilitate mass/charge transfer to accommodate high-current-density catalysis. Second, in situ derived FeNi hydroxide motifs offer bimetallic synergistic catalysis centers with high intrinsic activity. Third, carboxyl ligands alleviate metal oxidation favorable for charge tolerability against peroxidation dissolution under strong polarization. As a result, this catalyst requires an overpotential of only 280 mV to deliver high current density up to 1 A/cm2 with long durability over 1000 h. Moreover, an alkaline water electrolyzer with this catalyst alternative demonstrates an increased economic effectiveness compared to commercial levels at present.

This paper describes a concise, asymmetric and stereodivergent total synthesis of tacaman alkaloids. A key step in this synthesis is the biocatalytic Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone, which was developed to produce seven-membered lactones and establish the required stereochemistry at the C14 position (92 % yield, 99 % ee, 500 mg scale). Cis- and trans-tetracyclic indoloquinolizidine scaffolds were rapidly synthesized through an acid-triggered, tunable acyl-Pictet-Spengler type cyclization cascade, serving as the pivotal reaction for building the alkaloid skeleton. Computational results revealed that hydrogen bonding was crucial in stabilizing intermediates and inducing different addition reactions during the acyl-Pictet-Spengler cyclization cascade. By strategically using these two reactions and the late-stage diversification of the functionalized indoloquinolizidine core, the asymmetric total syntheses of eight tacaman alkaloids were achieved. This study may potentially advance research related to the medicinal chemistry of tacaman alkaloids.

Objective: To explore the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward interstitial lung disease (ILD) among patients and analyze the factors affecting KAP. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with ILD treated at the Respiratory Department of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital between January 2023 and June 2023. A self-administered questionnaire was developed to evaluate their KAP toward ILD through convenient sampling. Multivariate regression analysis and structural equation model (SEM) were used to analyze the factors influencing KAP and their interactions. Results: A total of 397 patients were enrolled, with 61.71% male. The mean KAP scores were 4.60 ± 3.10 (possible range: 0-12), 16.97 ± 2.16 (possible range: 5-25), and 32.60 ± 7.16 (possible range: 9-45), respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that junior high school [OR = 2.003, 95%CI: 1.056-3.798, p = 0.033], high school and above [OR = 2.629, 95%CI: 1.315-5.258, p = 0.006], and duration of disease ≥5 years [OR = 1.857, 95%CI: 1.132-3.046, p = 0.014] were independently associated with adequate knowledge. The knowledge [OR = 1.108, 95%CI: 1.032-1.189, p = 0.005] and duration of disease ≥5 years [OR = 0.525, 95%CI: 0.317-0.869, p = 0.012] were independently associated with a positive attitude. The knowledge [OR = 1.116, 95%CI: 1.036-1.202, p = 0.004], attitude [OR = 1.180, 95%CI: 1.061-1.312, p = 0.002], and the age of >70 years [OR = 0.447, 95%CI: 0.245-0.817, p = 0.009] were independently associated with the proactive practice. SEM showed that patients' knowledge of ILD directly affected their attitude (ß = 0.842, p < 0.001) and practice (ß = 0.363, p < 0.001), and their attitude also affected their practice (ß = 0.347, p = 0.014). Conclusion: Patients with ILD in China had poor knowledge, intermediate attitude, and proactive practice toward ILD, which suggests that the health education of patients should be further strengthened.

Fuzheng Huayu recipe (FZHYR) is a Chinese patent medicine for the treatment of fibrosis. The effects of FZHYR on pulmonary fibrosis and macrophage polarization were investigated in vitro. FZHYR inhibited pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis and M2 polarization of macrophages in bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis (BPF) of rat model. Differentially expressed genes were screened by high-throughput mRNA sequencing and GSEA showed that oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) was correlated with BPF. FZHYR inhibited expressions of Ndufa2 and Ndufa6 in lung tissues of BPF rats. These findings suggest that OXPHOS pathway serves as a possible target for pulmonary fibrosis therapy by FZHYR.

Background: The association of Remnant cholesterol (RC) with renal function and its progression in patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) related chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear. Methods: 8,678 patients with T2DM-related CKD were included in cross-sectional analysis, and 6,165 patients were enrolled in longitudinal analysis and followed up for a median of 36.0 months. The outcomes were renal composite endpoint event and rapid progression of renal function. Results: 24.54% developed a renal composite endpoint event, and 27.64% rapid progression of renal function. RC levels above 0.56 mmol/L independently increased the risk of both renal composite endpoint (HR, 1.17; 95% CIs, 1.03-1.33) and rapid progression of renal function (OR, 1.17; 95% CIs, 1.01- 1.37). TG levels above 1.65 mmol/L only increased the risk of renal composite endpoint (HR, 1.16; 95% CIs, 1.02 -1.32). TC levels above 5.21 mmol/L increased the risk of renal composite endpoint (HR, 1.14; 95% CIs, 1.01-1.29) only in patients with proteinuria≥0.5g/d. Conversely, HDL-C levels below 1.20 mmol/L or above 1.84 mmol/L increased the risk of rapid progression of renal function (OR, 0.88; 95% CIs, 0.70 -0.99) in patients with proteinuria<0.5g/d (all P<0.05). Conclusion: In patients with T2DM-related CKD, RC was an independent risk factor for progression of renal function, and maintaining it below 0.56 mmol/L could reduce the risk of renal function progression.

Clarifying the effect size of the association between somatic symptom disorders (SSDs) and defects in emotional regulation (ER) dimensions through a meta-analysis may improve ER-related treatment for SSD patients. SSDs exhibited a lower level of adaptive ER (overall Hedge's g = -0.618, 95 %CI [0.872, -0.365]; Hedge's g for ER dimensions of Awareness, Description, Clarity, Acceptance, Tolerance, Self-efficacy belief, and Cognitive Reappraisal ranged from -0.451 to -1.344). Maladaptive ER dimensions (catastrophizing and expressive inhibition) showed no significant associations with SSDs. Psychotherapy focusing on developing adaptive ER rather than reducing maladaptive ER may be a more promising approach for treating SSD patients.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by insulin resistance, with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Due to the tightly intertwined connection between the insulin resistance pathway and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, regulating the PI3K/AKT pathway and its associated targets is essential for hypoglycemia and the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In recent years, metabolites isolated from traditional Chinese medicine has received more attention and acceptance for its superior bioactivity, high safety, and fewer side effects. Meanwhile, numerous in vivo and in vitro studies have revealed that the metabolites present in traditional Chinese medicine possess better bioactivities in regulating the balance of glucose metabolism, ameliorating insulin resistance, and preventing type 2 diabetes mellitus via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In this article, we reviewed the literature related to the metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine improving IR and possessing therapeutic potential for type 2 diabetes mellitus by targeting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, focusing on the hypoglycemic mechanism of the metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine in type 2 diabetes mellitus and elaborating on the significant role of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In order to provide reference for clinical prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Culex pipiens pallens Coquillett, 1898 (Diptera: Culicidae) was the dominant health threat to mosquito species in Beijing, and it is important to unravel the spatial distribution and environmental correlations of Cx. pipiens pallens in Beijing. 3S technology methods and spatial statistics were used to clarify the distribution pattern. Subsequently, linear and spatial regression were performed to detect the environmental factors linked with the density of Cx. pipiens pallens. The same "middle peak" spatial distribution pattern was observed for Cx. pipiens pallens density at the community, subdistrict, and loop area levels in our study area. In addition, there were various correlated environmental factors at the community and subdistrict scales. At the community scale, the summary values of the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) in 2 km buffer zone (MNDWI_2K) were negatively correlated, and the summary values of Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI) in 800 m buffer zone (NDBI_800) was positively correlated to the Cx. pipiens pallens density. However, the summary values of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and Nighttime Light Index significantly affected Cx. pipiens pallens density at the subdistrict scale. Our findings provide insight into the spatial distribution pattern of Cx. pipiens pallens density and its associated environmental risk factors at different spatial scales in the Haidian district of Beijing for the first time. The results could be used to predict the Cx. pipiens pallens density as well as the risk of lymphatic filariasis (LF) infection, which would help implement prevention and control measures to prevent future risks of biting and LF transmission in Beijing.

Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a common complication of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM), which is one of the connective tissue diseases (CTD). It can lead to poor prognosis and increased mortality. However, the distribution and role of the lower respiratory tract (LRT) microbiome in patients with IIM-ILD remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the microbial diversity and community differences in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in patients with IIM-ILD. Methods: From 28 June 2021 to 26 December 2023, 51 individual BALF samples were enrolled, consisting of 20 patients with IIM-ILD, 16 patients with other CTD-ILD (including 8 patients with SLE and 8 with RA) and 15 patients with CAP. The structure and function of microbiota in BALF were identified by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). Results: The community evenness of LRT microbiota within the IIM-ILD group was marginally lower compared to the other CTD-ILD and CAP groups. Nonetheless, there were no noticeable differences. The species community structure was similar among the three groups, based on the Bray-Curtis distance between the samples. At the level of genus, the IIM-ILD group displayed a considerably higher abundance of Pseudomonas and Corynebacterium in comparison to the CAP group (p < 0.01, p < 0.05). At the species level, we found that the relative abundance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa increased significantly in the IIM-ILD group compared to the CAP group (p < 0.05). Additionally, the relative abundance of Prevotella pallens was significantly higher in other CTD-ILD groups compared to that in the IIM-ILD group (p < 0.05). Of all the clinical indicators examined in the correlation analysis, ferritin level demonstrated the strongest association with LRT flora, followed by Serum interleukin-6 level (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our research has identified particular LRT microorganisms that were found to be altered in the IIM-ILD group and were significantly associated with immune function and inflammatory markers in patients. The lower respiratory tract microbiota has potential in the diagnosis and treatment of IIM-ILD.

All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) are considered promising energy storage systems due to their high energy density and inherent safety. However, scalable fabrication of ASSLBs based on transition metal sulfide cathodes through the conventional powder cold-pressing method with ultrahigh stacking pressure remains challenging. This article elucidates a dry process methodology for preparing flexible and high-performance FeS2-based ASSLBs under low stack pressure by utilizing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) binder. In this design, fibrous PTFE interweaves Li6PS5Cl particles and FeS2 cathode components, forming flexible electrolyte and composite cathode membranes. Beneficial to the robust adhesion, the composite cathode and Li6PS5Cl membranes are tightly compacted under a low stacking pressure of 100 MPa which is a fifth of the conventional pressure. Moreover, the electrode/electrolyte interface can sustain adequate contact throughout electrochemical cycling. As expected, the FeS2-based ASSLBs exhibit outstanding rate performance and cyclic stability, contributing a reversible discharged capacity of 370.7 mAh g-1 at 0.3C after 200 cycles. More importantly, the meticulous dQ/dV analysis reveals that the three-dimensional PTFE binder effectively binds the discharge products with sluggish kinetics (Li2S and Fe) to the ion-electron conductive network in the composite cathode, thereby preventing the electrochemical inactivation of products and enhancing electrochemical performance. Furthermore, FeS2-based pouch-type cells are fabricated, demonstrating the potential of PTFE-based dry-process technology to scale up ASSLBs from laboratory-scale mold cells to factory-scale pouch cells. This feasible dry-processed technology provides valuable insights to advance the practical applications of ASSLBs.

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common dermatologic problems, especially in children. Given the ability of symbiotic microorganisms in modulating the immune system, probiotics administration has been studied in previous research in the management of atopic dermatitis. However, there are conflicting results between studies. In this study, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of mixed probiotics as a treatment option for atopic dermatitis induced by ovalbumin. BALB/c juvenile mice were classified and divided into the ovalbumin group, mixed probiotic group (ovalbumin + LK), and control group. Except for the control group, all mice were sensitized with ovalbumin to establish a model of atopic dermatitis. The mixed probiotics were given by gavage for 14 days. Mice body weight, skin lesions, skin inflammation, ovalbumin-specific Ig, the number of Treg and CD103+DC, and the expression level of PD-1/PD-L1 were examined. The results showed that mixed probiotics can improve body weight and alleviate skin symptoms. Mixed probiotics reduced serum Th2 inflammatory factors, eosinophils, mast cell degranulation, mast cell count, and the expression of ovalbumin-specific immunoglobulin E/G1 and increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10, Treg cells, CD103+DC cells, and the expression level of PD-1/PD-L1. These findings suggest that mixed probiotics could be a viable treatment option for atopic dermatitis and provide insight into the underlying mechanisms involved.

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to determine the incidence and risk factors of blood transfusion among patients undergoing total knee revision (TKR) using a nationwide database. METHODS: A retrospective data analysis was conducted based on the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS), enrolling patients who underwent TKR from 2010 to 2019 with complete information. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they received blood transfusion or not. The demographic characteristics (race, sex, and age), length of stay (LOS), total charge of hospitalization, hospital characteristics (admission type, insurance type, bed size, teaching status, location, and region of hospital), hospital mortality, comorbidities, and perioperative complications were analyzed. Finally, we conducted univariate and multivariate logistic regression to identify factors that were associated with TKR patients to require blood transfusion. RESULTS: The NIS database included 115,072 patients who underwent TKR. Among them, 14,899 patients received blood transfusion, and the incidence of blood transfusion was 13.0%. There was a dramatic decrease in the incidence over the years from 2010 to 2019, dropping from 20.4 to 6.5%. TKR patients requiring transfusions had experienced longer LOS, incurred higher total medical expenses, utilized Medicare more frequently, and had increased in-hospital mortality rates (all P < 0.001). Independent predictors for blood transfusion included advanced age, female gender, iron-deficiency anemia, rheumatoid disease, chronic blood loss anemia, congestive heart failure, coagulopathy, uncomplicated diabetes, lymphoma, fluid and electrolyte disorders, metastatic carcinoma, other neurological diseases, paralysis, peripheral vascular disorders, pulmonary circulation disorders, renal failure, valvular disease, and weight loss. In addition, risk factors for transfusion in TKR surgery included sepsis, acute myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, gastrointestinal bleeding, heart failure, renal insufficiency, pneumonia, wound infection, lower limb nerve injury, hemorrhage/seroma/hematoma, wound rupture/non healing, urinary tract infection, acute renal failure, and postoperative delirium. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the importance of recognizing the risk factors of blood transfusion in TKR to reduce the occurrence of adverse events.
