BACKGROUND: Unfavorable temperatures significantly constrain the quality formation of Dendrobium officinale, severely limiting its food demand. Salicylic acid (SA) enhances the resistance of D. officinale to stress and possesses various analogs. The impact and mechanism of the SA family on improving the quality of D. officinale under adverse temperature conditions remains unclear. RESULTS: Combined with molecular docking analysis, chlorophyll fluorescence and metabolic analysis after treatments with SA analogues or extreme temperatures are performed in this study. The results demonstrate that both heat and cold treatments impede several main parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence of D. officinale, including the ΦPSII parameter, a sensitive growth indicator. However, this inhibition is mitigated by SA or its chemically similar compounds. Comprehensive branch imaging of ΦPSII values revealed position-dependent improvement of tolerance. Molecular docking analysis using a crystal structure model of NPR4 protein reveals that the therapeutic effects of SA analogs are determined by their binding energy and the contact of certain residues. Metabolome analysis identifies 17 compounds are considered participating in the temperature-related SA signaling pathway. Moreover, several natural SA analogs such as 2-hydroxycinnamic acid, benzamide, 2-(formylamino) benzoic acid and 3-o-methylgallic acid, are further found to have high binding ability to NPR4 protein and probably enhance the tolerance of D. officinale against unfavorable temperatures through flavone and guanosine monophosphate degradation pathways. CONCLUSIONS: These results reveal that the SA family with a high binding capability of NPR4 could improve the tolerance of D. officinale upon extreme temperature challenges. This study also highlights the collaborative role of SA-related natural compounds present in D. officinale in the mechanism of temperature resistance and offers a potential way to develop protective agents for the cultivation of D. officinale.

Urinary analysis of exogenous and endogenous molecules constitutes an efficient, noninvasive approach to evaluate human health status. However, the exposome characterization of urinary molecules remains extremely challenging with current techniques. Herein, we develop an ExpoNano strategy based on hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs) to achieve ultrahigh-throughput measurement of exo/endogenous molecules in urine. The strategy includes a simple trapping-detrapping procedure (15 min) with HCPs in enzymatically treated urine, followed by mass spectrometer determination. Molecules that can be determined by ExpoNano have a wide range of molecular weight (75-837 Da) and Log Kow (octanol-water partition coefficient; -9.86 to 10.56). The HCPs can be repeatedly used five times without decreasing the trapping efficiency. Application of ExpoNano in a biomonitoring study revealed a total of 63 environmental chemicals detected in >50% of the urine pools collected from Chinese adults living in 13 cities, with a median concentration of 0.026-47 ng/mL, while nontargeted analysis detected an additional 243 exogenous molecules. Targeted and nontargeted analysis also detected 926 endogenous molecules in pooled urine. Collectively, the ExpoNano strategy demonstrates unique advantages over traditional urine analysis approaches, including a wide range of analytes, satisfactory trapping efficiency, high simplicity and reusability, and extremely reduced time demand and financial cost.

The kagome spin ice can host frustrated magnetic excitations by flipping its local spin. Under an inelastic tunneling condition, the tip in a scanning tunneling microscope can flip the local spin, and we apply this technique to kagome metal HoAgGe with a long-range ordered spin ice ground state. Away from defects, we discover a pair of pronounced dips in the local tunneling spectrum at symmetrical bias voltages with negative intensity values, serving as a striking inelastic tunneling signal. This signal disappears above the spin ice formation temperature and has a dependence on the magnetic fields, demonstrating its intimate relation with the spin ice magnetism. We provide a two-level spin-flip model to explain the tunneling dips considering the spin ice magnetism under spin-orbit coupling. Our results uncover a local emergent excitation of spin ice magnetism in a kagome metal, suggesting that local electrical field induced spin flip climbs over a barrier caused by spin-orbital locking.

PURPOSE: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is regarded as an accelerated aging disease. Aging-related genes in COPD are still poorly understood. METHOD: Data set GSE76925 was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The "limma" package identified the differentially expressed genes. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) constructes co-expression modules and detect COPD-related modules. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and the support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) algorithms were chosen to identify the hub genes and the diagnostic ability. Three external datasets were used to identify differences in the expression of hub genes. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to verify the expression of hub genes. RESULT: We identified 15 differentially expressed genes associated with aging (ARDEGs). The SVM-RFE and LASSO algorithms pinpointed four potential diagnostic biomarkers. Analysis of external datasets confirmed significant differences in PIK3R1 expression. RT-qPCR results indicated decreased expression of hub genes. The ROC curve demonstrated that PIK3R1 exhibited strong diagnostic capability for COPD. CONCLUSION: We identified 15 differentially expressed genes associated with aging. Among them, PIK3R1 showed differences in external data sets and RT-qPCR results. Therefore, PIK3R1 may play an essential role in regulating aging involved in COPD.

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent inflammatory gynecological disease whose pathogenesis is unclear. C-C motif chemokine ligand 18 (CCL18), a chemokine, is involved in several inflammatory diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of CCL18 in endometriosis and its underlying mechanisms. Human endometrium and peritoneal fluid were obtained from women with and without endometriosis for molecular studies. The expression level of CCL18 in each tissue sample was examined by RNA sequencing analysis, quantitative PCR analysis and immunohistochemistry staining. The effects of CCL18 on cell migration, tube formation and neurite growth were investigated in vitro using primary endometrial cells, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, respectively. Moreover, the development of endometriosis in mice was studied in vivo by blocking CCL18. CCL18 was shown to be overexpressed in endometrial foci and peritoneal fluid in women with endometriosis and was positively correlated with endometriosis pain. In vitro, CCL18 promoted the migration of ectopic endometrial cells, tube formation of HUVECs, and nerve outgrowth of DRG neurons. More importantly, inhibition of CCL18 significantly suppressed lesion development, angiogenesis, and nerve infiltration in a mouse model of endometriosis. In conclusion, CCL18 may play a role in the progression of endometriosis by increasing endometrial cell migration and promoting neuroangiogenesis.

The seed method stands out as a straightforward and efficient approach for fabricating high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this study, we propose the utilization of an antisolvent as an additive to induce crystal seeding, thereby facilitating the growth of wide-bandgap perovskite grains. Specifically, we introduce three commonly used antisolvents─ethyl acetate (EA), isopropanol (IPA), and chlorobenzene (CB)─directly into the perovskite precursor solution to generate perovskite seeds, which serve to promote subsequent nucleation. This antisolvent-crystal seeding method (ACSM) results in increased grain sizes, reduced film defects, and overall improved film quality. Consequently, the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 1.647 eV PSCs with EA, IPA, and CB additives are recorded at 19.86%, 20.61%, and 20.45%, respectively, surpassing that of the reference device with a PCE of 18.83%. Furthermore, the stability of the PSCs prepared through ACSM is notably enhanced. Notably, PSCs optimized with IPA retain 75% of the original PCE after being stored in ambient air conditions (25 °C, RH ∼ 15%) for 30 days, better than the CB-added (64%) and the EA-added devices (53%), while the reference devices only retain 31% of the initial PCE. Moreover, even after continuous thermal annealing at 50 °C for 200 h, IPA-assisted devices demonstrate the best stability, followed by those with CB and EA, with the reference exhibiting the poorest stability.

Cashmere goats possess two types of hair follicles, with the secondary hair follicles producing valuable cashmere fiber used for textiles. The growth of cashmere exhibits a seasonal pattern arising from photoperiod change. Transcription factors play crucial roles during this process. The transcription factor, cold-shock domain, containing C2 (Csdc2) plays a crucial role in modulating cell proliferation and differentiation. Our preceding research indicated that the expression of Csdc2 changes periodically during anagen to telogen. However, the mechanisms of Csdc2 in regulating SHF growth remain unclear. Here, we found that the knockdown of Csdc2 inhibits the proliferation of dermal papilla cells. ChIP-Seq analysis showed that Csdc2 had a unique DNA binding motif in SHFs. Through conjoint analysis of ChIP-Seq and RNA-Seq, we revealed a total of 25 candidate target genes of Csdc2. Notably, we discovered a putative Csdc2 binding site within roundabout guidance receptor 2 (Robo2) on chromosome 1 of the goat genome. Furthermore, qRT-PCR and dual-luciferase reporter assay confirmed Csdc2's positive regulatory influence on Robo2. These findings expand the research field of hair follicle transcriptional regulatory networks, offering insights into molecular breeding strategies to enhance cashmere production in goats.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia have drawn widespread attention. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can modulate cognitive processes by altering neuronal excitability. Previous studies have found that interim testing can enhance spatial route learning and memory in patients with schizophrenia. However, there has been limited research on the combined effects of these two methods on spatial route learning in these patients. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the combination of tDCS and interim testing can effectively contribute to the maintenance of spatial route memory in patients with schizophrenia. The study involved conducting route learning using interim testing after anodal tDCS treatment on the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC). METHODS: Ninety-two patients with schizophrenia were recruited and divided into groups receiving anodal, sham, or no stimulation. The anodal group received L-DLPFC tDCS treatment 10 times over 5 days (twice daily for 20 min). After treatment, spatial route learning was assessed in interim testing. Correct recall rates of landmark positions and proactive interference from prior learning were compared among the groups. RESULTS: Regardless of stimulation type, the interim testing group outperformed the relearning group. Additionally, recall scores were higher following anodal stimulation, indicating the efficacy of tDCS. CONCLUSIONS: Both tDCS and interim testing independently enhance the ability to learn new information in spatial route learning for patients with schizophrenia, indicating that tDCS of the left DLPFC significantly improves memory in these patients.

Huntingtin protein, mutated in Huntington's disease, is implicated in nucleic acid-mediated processes, yet the evidence for direct huntingtin-nucleic acid interaction is limited. Here, we show wild-type and mutant huntingtin copurify with nucleic acids, primarily RNA, and interact directly with G-rich RNAs in in vitro assays. Huntingtin RNA-immunoprecipitation sequencing from patient-derived fibroblasts and neuronal progenitor cells expressing wild-type and mutant huntingtin revealed long noncoding RNA NEAT1 as a significantly enriched transcript. Altered NEAT1 levels were evident in Huntington's disease cells and postmortem brain tissues, and huntingtin knockdown decreased NEAT1 levels. Huntingtin colocalized with NEAT1 in paraspeckles, and we identified a high-affinity RNA motif preferred by huntingtin. This study highlights NEAT1 as a huntingtin interactor, demonstrating huntingtin's involvement in RNA-mediated functions and paraspeckle regulation.

Previous studies found that the abstract concept of power is embodied within space and weight, but there is not a consistent conclusion on the metaphorical relationship between power and colour. The present study adopted three experiments to investigate the metaphorical association between the concept of power and colour perception in Chinese, and how semantic processing and colour perception influence this mapping. Experiment 1 studied the effect of colour perception on the processing of power. The results showed that there was a faster response when high-power words were presented in gold and low-power words were presented in grey. Experiment 2 explored whether priming semantics of power affected colour judgement, and found no significant difference between gold and grey, neither in high-power words nor low-power words. Experiment 3 discovered that participants preferred to connect the golden pseudo words with high-power words and connect the grey pseudo words with low-power words. Overall, the present study substantiated a two-way metaphorical link between colour and power. A metaphorical association is also influenced by the degree of integration of colour into semantics and the depth of semantic processing.

Peanut web blotch (PWB) caused by Phoma arachidicola, is one of the most serious foliar diseases of peanut. Although prochloraz is an active fungicide with broad anti-fungal spectrum, it has not been registered for the control of PWB in China. The activity of prochloraz against P. arachidicola and the risk of resistance to prochloraz in P. arachidicola are still unclear. In current study, the inhibitory activity of prochloraz against 96 P. arachidicola strains was determined with the average EC50 value of 1.2700 ± 0.7786 µg/mL. Prochloraz exhibited excellent protective and curative effect on detached peanut leaves, and the effect was obviously better than that of carbendazim and difenoconazole at the same concentration. After prochloraz treatment, the mycelium of P. arachidicola contorted, shrunk and ruptured, with shrinking of cell wall and membrane, enhanced cell membrane permeability, and reduced ergosterol content. Totally 80 prochloraz-resistant mutants were obtained by fungicide adaptation with the frequency of 6.7 × 10-3. All the selected 12 prochloraz-resistant mutants lost their resistance to prochloraz after 10 transfers on PDA plates. And these mutants exhibited decreased biological fitness in mycelial growth and pathogenicity. Moreover, there was positive cross-resistance between prochloraz and other demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicides, such as tebuconazole, triflumizole and difenoconazole, but no cross-resistance was found between prochloraz and other classes of fungicides, such as carbendazim, pydiflumetofen or fludioxonil. Overexpression of PaCYP51 and PaAtrB genes were detected in the resistant mutants. All the above results demonstrated that prochloraz has a great potential in management of PWB. The risk of P. arachidicola developing resistance to prochloraz is relatively low-to-medium. Overexpressing of PaCYP51 and PaAtrB might be linked to prochloraz resistance in P. arachidicola.

Rice blast, caused by Magnaporthe oryzae, is a devastating fungal disease worldwide. Pydiflumetofen (Pyd) is a new succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) that exhibited anti-fungal activity against M. oryzae. However, control of rice blast by Pyd and risk of resistance to Pyd are not well studied in this pathogen. The baseline sensitivity of 109 M. oryzae strains to Pyd was determined using mycelial growth rate assay, with EC50 values ranging from 0.291 to 2.1313 µg/mL, and an average EC50 value of 1.1005 ± 0.3727 µg/mL. Totally 28 Pyd-resistant (PydR) mutants with 15 genotypes of point mutations in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) complex were obtained, and the resistance level could be divided into three categories of very high resistance (VHR), high resistance (HR) and moderate resistance (MR) with the resistance factors (RFs) of >1000, 105.74-986.13 and 81.92-99.48, respectively. Molecular docking revealed that all 15 mutations decreased the binding-force score for the affinity between Pyd and target subunits, which further confirmed that these 15 genotypes of point mutations were responsible for the resistance to Pyd in M. oryzae. There was positive cross resistance between Pyd and other SDHIs, such as fluxapyroxad, penflufen or carboxin, while there was no cross-resistance between Pyd and carbendazim, prochloraz or azoxystrobin in M. oryzae, however, PydR mutants with SdhBP198Q, SdhCL66F or SdhCL66R genotype were still sensitive to the other 3 SDHIs, indicating lack of cross resistance. The results of fitness study revealed that the point mutations in MoSdhB/C/D genes might reduce the hyphae growth and sporulation, but could improve the pathogenicity in M. oryzae. Taken together, the risk of resistance to Pyd might be moderate to high, and it should be used as tank-mixtures with other classes of fungicides to delay resistance development when it is used for the control of rice blast in the field.

Bottom-up patterning technology plays a significant role in both nature and synthetic materials, owing to its inherent advantages such as ease of implementation, spontaneity, and noncontact attributes, etc. However, constrained by the uncontrollability of molecular movement, energy interaction, and stress, obtained micropatterns tend to exhibit an inevitable arched outline, resulting in the limitation of applicability. Herein, inspired by auxin's action mode in apical dominance, a versatile strategy is proposed for fabricating precision self-organizing micropatterns with impressive height based on polymerization-induced acropetal migration. The copolymer containing fluorocarbon chains (low surface energy) and tertiary amine (coinitiator) is designed to self-assemble on the surface of the photo-curing system. The selective exposure under a photomask establishes a photocuring boundary and the radicals would be generated on the surface, which is pivotal in generating a vertical concentration difference of monomer. Subsequent heating treatment activates the material continuously transfers from the unexposed area to the exposed area and is accompanied by the obviously vertical upward mass transfer, resulting in the manufacture of a rectilinear profile micropattern. This strategy significantly broadens the applicability of self-organizing patterns, offering the potential to mitigate the complexity and time-consuming limitations associated with top-down methods.

Objective: The purpose of this article is to introduce a novel imaging device and technique for percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) and evaluate its clinical application. Methods: We have modified the bronchoscope to generate a novel imaging device. The handle of the bronchoscope was removed and replaced with added fixation pieces to secure the new device to the endotracheal tube. Nine mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the intensive care department of Shandong Public Health Clinical Center who underwent PDT between July 2023 and January 2024 have been treated with this novel imaging device. The number of medical staff members needed for the operation, number of needle interventions, operation time, arterial blood gas analysis, and intraoperative complications were observed. Results: Three medical staff were involved in the procedure: an operator, an assistant, and a nurse. The first attempted needle intervention was successful in all patients, and no serious complications such as major bleeding, pneumothorax, mediastinal emphysema, accidental extubation, desaturation, hypercarbia, respiratory acidosis, hemodynamic abnormality, or posterior tracheal puncture occurred. The average time was 11.63 ± 1.56 minutes from skin incision to the needle insertion and 4.43 ± 1.99 minutes from needle insertion to tracheal placement. Conclusions: PDT guided by the novel device is safe, preserves human resources, saves operating space, keeps the view stable, and makes the procedure easy. It is worthy of further research and application.

Enterocytozoon bieneusi is an obligate intracellular microsporidian parasite with a worldwide distribution. As a zoonotic pathogen, E. bieneusi can infect a wide range of wildlife hosts through the fecal-oral route. Although the feces of flying squirrels (Trogopterus xanthipes) are considered a traditional Chinese medicine (as "faeces trogopterori"), no literature is available on E. bieneusi infection in flying squirrels to date. In this study, a total of 340 fresh flying squirrel fecal specimens from two captive populations were collected in Pingdingshan city, China, to detect the prevalence of E. bieneusi and assess their zoonotic potential. By nested PCR amplification of the ITS gene, six specimens tested positive, with positive samples from each farm, with an overall low infection rate of 1.8%. The ITS sequences revealed three genotypes, including known genotype D and two novel genotypes, HNFS01 and HNFS02. Genotype HNFS01 was the most prevalent (4/6, 66.7%). Phylogenetic analysis showed that all genotypes clustered into zoonotic Group 1, with the novel genotypes clustering into different subgroups. To our knowledge, this is the first report of E. bieneusi infection in flying squirrels, suggesting that flying squirrels could act as a potential reservoir and zoonotic threat for E. bieneusi transmission to humans in China.


Title: Occurrence et génotypage d'Enterocytozoon bieneusi chez les écureuils volants (Trogopterus xanthipes) de Chine. Abstract: Enterocytozoon bieneusi est un parasite microsporidien intracellulaire obligatoire présent dans le monde entier. En tant qu'agent pathogène zoonotique, E. bieneusi peut infecter un large éventail d'hôtes sauvages par la voie fécale-orale. Bien que les excréments d'écureuils volants (Trogopterus xanthipes) soient considérés comme un ingrédient de médecine traditionnelle chinoise (comme « faeces trogopterori ¼), aucune littérature n'est disponible à ce jour sur l'infection par E. bieneusi chez les écureuils volants. Dans cette étude, un total de 340 spécimens fécaux frais d'écureuils volants provenant de deux populations captives ont été collectés dans la ville de Pingdingshan, en Chine, pour détecter la prévalence d'E. bieneusi et évaluer leur potentiel zoonotique. Par amplification PCR nichée du gène ITS, six échantillons se sont révélés positifs, avec des échantillons positifs dans chaque ferme, et un taux d'infection global faible, à 1,8 %. Les séquences ITS ont révélé trois génotypes, dont le génotype D connu et deux nouveaux génotypes, HNFS01 et HNFS02. Le génotype HNFS01 était le plus répandu (4/6, 66,7 %). Loss of Lon1 led to stunted plant growth and accumulation of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial proteins including Lon1 substrates. However, an in-depth label-free proteomics quantification of mitochondrial proteins in lon1 revealed that the majority of mitochondrial-encoded proteins decreased in abundance. Additionally, we found that lon1 mutants contained protein aggregates in the mitochondrial that were enriched in metabolic enzymes, ribosomal subunits and PPR-containing proteins of the translation apparatus. These mutants exhibited reduced general mitochondrial translation as well as deficiencies in RNA splicing and editing. These findings support the role of Lon1 in maintaining a functional translational apparatus for mitochondrial-encoded gene translation. Transcriptome analysis of lon1 revealed a mitochondrial unfolded protein response reminiscent of the mitochondrial retrograde signalling dependent on the transcription factor ANAC017. Notably, lon1 mutants exhibited transiently elevated ethylene production, and the shortened hypocotyl observed in lon1 mutants during skotomorphogenesis was partially alleviated by ethylene inhibitors. Furthermore, the short root phenotype was partially ameliorated by introducing a mutation in the ethylene receptor ETR1. Interestingly, the upregulation of only a select few target genes was linked to ETR1-mediated ethylene signalling. Together this provides multiple steps in the link between loss of Lon1 and signalling responses to restore mitochondrial protein homoeostasis in plants.

The collaboration of Yale, the University of California, Davis, and United Imaging Healthcare has successfully developed the NeuroEXPLORER, a dedicated human brain PET imager with high spatial resolution, high sensitivity, and a built-in 3-dimensional camera for markerless continuous motion tracking. It has high depth-of-interaction and time-of-flight resolutions, along with a 52.4-cm transverse field of view (FOV) and an extended axial FOV (49.5 cm) to enhance sensitivity. Here, we present the physical characterization, performance evaluation, and first human images of the NeuroEXPLORER. Methods: Measurements of spatial resolution, sensitivity, count rate performance, energy and timing resolution, and image quality were performed adhering to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU 2-2018 standard. The system's performance was demonstrated through imaging studies of the Hoffman 3-dimensional brain phantom and the mini-Derenzo phantom. Initial 18F-FDG images from a healthy volunteer are presented. Results: With filtered backprojection reconstruction, the radial and tangential spatial resolutions (full width at half maximum) averaged 1.64, 2.06, and 2.51 mm, with axial resolutions of 2.73, 2.89, and 2.93 mm for radial offsets of 1, 10, and 20 cm, respectively. The average time-of-flight resolution was 236 ps, and the energy resolution was 10.5%. NEMA sensitivities were 46.0 and 47.6 kcps/MBq at the center and 10-cm offset, respectively. A sensitivity of 11.8% was achieved at the FOV center. The peak noise-equivalent count rate was 1.31 Mcps at 58.0 kBq/mL, and the scatter fraction at 5.3 kBq/mL was 36.5%. The maximum count rate error at the peak noise-equivalent count rate was less than 5%. At 3 iterations, the NEMA image-quality contrast recovery coefficients varied from 74.5% (10-mm sphere) to 92.6% (37-mm sphere), and background variability ranged from 3.1% to 1.4% at a contrast of 4.0:1. An example human brain 18F-FDG image exhibited very high resolution, capturing intricate details in the cortex and subcortical structures. Conclusion: The NeuroEXPLORER offers high sensitivity and high spatial resolution. With its long axial length, it also enables high-quality spinal cord imaging and image-derived input functions from the carotid arteries. These performance enhancements will substantially broaden the range of human brain PET paradigms, protocols, and thereby clinical research applications.

BACKGROUND: A pragmatic randomised controlled trial has confirmed the effectiveness of Urinary Incontinence for Women (UIW) app-based intervention in improving postpartum urinary incontinence (UI) severity among pregnant women. However, the causal mechanisms underlying this intervention effect remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To examine the mediating role of self-efficacy with pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) on the effect of the UIW app-based intervention in improving postpartum UI severity. METHODS: This was a secondary causal mediation analysis of a single-center, 2-arm, unblinded pragmatic randomised controlled trial. Singleton pregnant women without UI before pregnancy aged ≥18 years and between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation were recruited from a tertiary public hospital in China and randomised to receive the UIW app intervention plus oral PFMT instructions (n = 63) or oral PFMT instructions alone (n = 63). The primary outcome was postpartum changes in UI severity at 6 weeks. Changes in self-efficacy with PFMT 2 months after randomisation were a hypothesised mediator. Causal mediation analysis was used to estimate the average causal mediation effect (ACME), average direct effect (ADE), average total effect (ATE), and proportion mediated. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to examine the robustness of the ACME in relation to potential unmeasured confounding. RESULTS: Data from 103 participants were analyzed. The ATE of UIW app-based intervention on postpartum UI severity was 2.91 points (95 % confidence intervals [CI] 1.69 to 4.12), with ADE of 1.97 points (95 % CI 0.63 to 3.41) and the ACME 0.94 points (95 % CI 0.27 to 1.72). The proportion of ATE mediated by self-efficacy with PFMT was 0.32 (95 % CI 0.08 to 0.67). Sensitivity analysis revealed the robust ACME with respect to the potential effects of unmeasured confounding. CONCLUSION: An increase in self-efficacy with PFMT partially mediated the effect of the UIW app intervention on improvements in postpartum UI severity. Over the past decade, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted enormous attention due to their high performance. One key to fabricating high-quality perovskite films lies in controlling the volatilization rate of residual solvents during the annealing process. This study systematically investigates how different protective substrates affect the volatilization rate of residual solvent in perovskite films. By adjusting the direction and rate of evaporation, the supersaturation time of the solution was precisely controlled, leading to effective recrystallization of the grains. Concurrently, the annealing time was optimized to enhance film quality further. This optimization aimed to increase crystallinity, reduce defects, and thereby minimize non-radiative recombination centers. Implementing these methodologies, particularly the use of filter paper as a protective substrate during a 2-minute annealing process, significantly improved the fill factor (FF) and open-circuit voltage (VOC) of the PSCs. This led to a remarkable 5.26% improvement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to control devices. The strategies employed in this work demonstrate significant potential in improving PSC film quality. This approach not only advances our understanding of film formation dynamics but also provides a practical guideline for future PSC fabrication.

BACKGROUND: Wheat bran (WB) is a byproduct of refined wheat flour production with poor edible taste and low economic value. Herein, the WB was micronized via airflow superfine pulverization (ASP), and the effects of the ASP conditions on its particle size, nutritive compositions, whiteness, hydration characteristics, moisture distribution, microstructure, cation exchange capacity, volatile flavor components, and other characteristics were investigated. RESULTS: Reducing the rotational speed of the ASP screw and increasing the number of pulverizations significantly decreased the median particle size Dx(50) of WB to a minimum of 12.97 ± 0.19 µm (P < 0.05), increased the soluble dietary fiber content from 55.05 ± 2.94 to 106.86 ± 1.60 mg g-1, and improved the whiteness and water solubility index. In addition, the water holding capacity and oil holding capacity were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), while the cation exchange and swelling capacities first increased and then decreased. Up to about 70% of water in WB exists as bound water. As the Dx(50) of WB decreased, the content of bound and immobile water increased, while the free water decreased from 14.37 ± 1.21% to 7.59 ± 1.03%. Furthermore, WB was micronized and the particles became smaller and more evenly distributed. Using gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry, a total of 37 volatile compounds in micronized WB (including 10 aldehydes, 9 esters, 7 alcohols, and several acids, furans, ethers, aldehydes, esters, and alcohols) were identified as the main volatile compounds of WB. CONCLUSION: Collectively, ASP improved the physicochemical properties of WB. This study provides theoretical references for the use of ASP to improve the utilization and edibility of WB. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.
