RESUMO

Chemical fibers such as glass fiber and aramid cover a large proportion of sound-absorbing composite materials on the current commercial market. These materials possess superior mechanical properties but have the disadvantages of high production costs and energy consumption and difficult recovery and degradation. In this paper, jute fiber and polypropylene were selected as raw materials, and a series of jute fiber-reinforced polypropylene composite materials were prepared by a mixing-hot-pressing process. The acoustic and mechanical performances of the composites with different fiber contents and fiber residue ratios were discussed. The results showed that the sound absorption coefficient values increased with the increasing fiber content and decreasing residual gum ratio. The mechanical properties varied inversely with the residual gum rate. With the increase of fiber content, the tensile and bending strengths first increased and then decreased. Therefore, the jute fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites can possess favorable sound absorption performance with no mechanical property penalty by adjusting the parameters properly, demonstrating that the composite materials have promising applications in the acoustic field.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nocardiosis is an uncommon opportunistic infection seen in immunocompromised patients or those with a dysfunctional immune system. Nocardia asteroides infection in patients with Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) has never been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: We report an interesting case of nocardiosis-characterized by pulmonary intra-cavitary infection, in a 54-year-old man with PF and diabetes mellitus. The man finally recovered from the infection. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first case reporting pulmonary nocardiosis in a patient with PF. We recommend that physicians be aware of nocardiosis in patients with pemphigus as a possible cause of underlying infectious disease to avoid misdiagnoses and mismanagement.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dyspnea is one of the most distressing symptoms encountered by advanced cancer patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the role of opioids in the management of cancer-related dyspnea. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis based on Randomized Controlled Trials was conducted in the databases PUBMED, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials testing the effect of opioids in relieving cancer-related dyspnea. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate various types of opioids in dyspnea management and stabilization of the study respectively. RESULTS: Eleven RCTs fulfilled the eligibility criteria and had a total of 290 participants. Nine of these studies were included in meta-analyses. Compared with control, opioid therapy showed a small positive effect in dyspnea, SMD-0.82 (95%CI = -1.54 to -0.10) and Borg score, WMD-0.95 (95%CI = -1.83 to -0.06); Opioid therapy did not increase the risk of somnolence, OR0.93 (95%CI = 0.34 to 2.58), whereas a negative effect on respiratory rate was observed,WMD-1.89 (95%CI = -3.36 to -0.43); Also, there was no evidence to suggest improved performance of the 6MWT test, WMD6.49 (95%CI = -34.23 to 47.21), or the level of peripheral oxygen saturation, WMD0.33 (95%CI = -0.59 to 1.24) after opioid therapy. Subgroup analysis yielded a small positive effect for morphine on dyspnea, SMD-0.78 (95%CI = -1.45 to -0.10), whereas fentanyl showed no improvement in dyspnea, SMD-0.44 (95%CI = -0.89 to 0.02). Sensitivity analysis showed no changes in the direction of effect when any one study was excluded from the meta-analyses. CONCLUSIONS: Our systematic review and meta-analysis indicated low quality evidence for a small positive effect of opioids in cancer-related dyspnea. Evidence for safety is insufficient as comprehensive adverse events were not adequately reported in studies.

RESUMO

N, O-Bidentate directing-enabled, traceless heterocycle synthesis is described via Cp*-free cobalt-catalyzed C-H activation/annulation. The weakly coordinating nature of the carboxylic acid was employed for the preparation of isoquinolines. Meanwhile, the N-O bond of the α-imino-oxy acid can serve as an internal oxidant. Terminal as well as internal alkynes can be efficiently applied to the catalytic system. This operationally simple approach shows a broad substrate scope with the products obtained in good to excellent yields.

RESUMO

To observe the effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) on testis spermatogenic injuries induced by Bisphenol A (BPA) in mice. BPA was subcutaneously injected into mice at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight (BW) for 7 consecutive days. LBP was administered simultaneously with BPA by gavage daily at the dose of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg BW for 7 days. After treatment, the weight and the histopathology changes of testis and epididymis were examined; the contents of T, LH, GnRH, antioxidant enzyme, and malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum were detected; proapoptotic protein Bax and antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 were also detected by immunohistochemical method. Results showed that the weights of testis and epididymis were all increased after supplement with different dosages of LBP compared with BPA group, and the activities of SOD and GSH-Px were significantly increased in LBP groups, while MDA contents were gradually decreased. Moreover, the levels of T, LH, and GnRH were significantly elevated in serum treated with 100 mg/kg LBP. LBP also shows significant positive effects on the expression of Bcl-2/Bax in BPA treated mice. It is concluded that LBP may be one of the potential ingredients protecting the adult male animals from BPA induced reproductive damage.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of soy protein on the concentration of serum lipids in hypercholesterolemic people and the correlation between dietary protein and serum lipids. METHODS: Ninety healthy hypercholesterolemic volunteers were given beverages contained either 24 g of casein or 18 g of soy protein plus 6 g of casein by random daily for 8 weeks without change of their habitual life. Body height, body weight, waist and hip circumference and serum lipids were measured before and after the study. RESULT: (1) The body weight and body mass index of subjects in the soy group were decreased slightly but significantly (P < 0.05), while the waist-to-hip circumference of subjects in casein group was decreased (P < 0.05). (2) ApoB and TC/HDL-C ratio were significantly reduced after consuming soy protein beverages for 8 weeks (P < 0.05), while in casein group, TC, LDL-C and ApoB were reduced significantly (P < 0.05). (3) The reduction in TC concentration was negatively correlated with the quantity of dietary protein intake (r = - 0.419, P < 0.01), whereas it was positively correlated with the quantity of vegetable protein intake (r = 0.521, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The effect of soy protein on serum lipids could be influenced by the source and quantity of dietary protein.

RESUMO

Alga-lysing bacteria have been paid much attention to in recent years. In this study, the alga-lysing strain P05 which was isolated from an immobilizing biosystem was immobilized by coke and elastic filler, forming two biological reactors. The removal efficiencies of algae, NH4(+)-N and organic matter using the two reactors were studied. The results showed that strain P05 was an ideal algal-lysing bacteria strain because it was easy to be immobilized by coke and elastic filler which are of cheap, low biodegradability and the simple immobilization procedure. After 7 d filming, the biological film could be formed and the reactors were used to treat the eutrophic water. These two reactors were of stability and high effect with low cost and easy operation. The optimal hydraulic retention time of each reactor was 4 h. The algae removal rates were 80.38% and 82.1% (in term of Chl-a) of coke reactor and filler reactor, respectively. And that of NH4(+)-N were 52.3% and 52.7%. The removal rates of COD(Mn) were 39.03% and 39.64%. The strain P05 was identified as Bacillus sp. by PCR amplification of the 16S rRNA gene, BLAST analysis, and comparison with sequences in the GenBank nucleotide database.

RESUMO

The degradation kinetics of strains P05 and P07 and the degradation effects of mixed strain on Microcystis aeruginosa were studied. The results showed that: (1) The degradation processes of strains P05 and P07 on Microcystis aeruginosa accorded with the first-order reaction model when the range of Chl-a concentration was from 0 to 1500 microg/L. (2) The initial bacterium densities had a strong influence on the degradation velocity. The greater the initial bacterium density was, the faster the degradation was. The degradation velocity constants of P05 were 0.1913, 0.2175 and 0.3092 respectively, when bacterium densities were 4.8 x 10(5), 4.8 x 10(6), 2.4 x 10(7) cells/ml. For strain P07, they were 0.1509, 0.1647 and 0.2708. The degradation velocity constant of strain P05 was higher than that of P07 when the bacterium density was under 4.8 x 10(5) cells/ml, but the constant increasing of P07 was quicker than that of P05. (3) The degradation effects of P05 and P07 strains did not antagonize. When the concentration of Chl-a was high, the degradation effects of mixed strain excelled that of any single strains. But with the decrease of the Chl-a concentration, this advantage was not clear. When the concentration was less than 180 microg/L, the degradation effects of mixed were consistent with that of strain P07.
