RESUMO

Transition-metal species embedded in carbon have sparked intense interest in the fields of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, improvement of the electrocatalytic kinetics remains a challenge caused by the synergistic assembly. Here, we propose a biochemical strategy to fabricate the Co nanoparticles (NPs) and Co/Ni-N4-C co-embedded N-doped porous carbon (CoNPs&Co/Ni-N4-C@NC) catalysts via constructing the zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)@yeast precursor. The rich amino groups provide the possibility for the anchorage of Co2+/Ni2+ ions as well as the construction of Co/Ni-ZIF@yeast through the yeast cell biomineralization effect. The functional design induces the formation of CoNPs and Co/Ni-N4-C sites in N-doped carbon as well as regulates the porosity for exposing such sites. Synergy of CoNPs, Co/Ni-N4-C, and porous N-doped carbon delivered excellent electrocatalytic kinetics (the ORR Tafel slope of 76.3 mV dec-1 and the OER Tafel slope of 80.4 mV dec-1) and a high voltage of 1.15 V at 10 mA cm-2 for the discharge process in zinc air batteries. It provides an effective strategy to fabricate high-performance catalysts.

RESUMO

Palygorskite (Pal) is a naturally available one-dimensional clay mineral, featuring rod-shaped morphology, nanoporous structure, permanent negative charges as well as abundant surface hydroxyl groups, exhibiting promising potential as a natural hemostatic material. In this study, the hemostatic performance and mechanisms of Pal were systematically investigated based on the structural regulate induced by oxalic acid (OA) gradient leaching from perspectives of structure, surface attributes and ion release. In vitroandin vivohemostasis evaluation showed that Pal with OA leaching for 1 h exhibited a superior blood procoagulant effect compared with the raw Pal as well as the others leached for prolonging time. This phenomenon might be ascribed to the synergistic effect of the intact nanorod-like morphology, the increase in the surface negative charge, the release of metal ions (Fe3+and Mg2+), and the improved blood affinity, which promoted the intrinsic coagulation pathway, the fibrinogenesis and the adhesion of blood cells, thereby accelerating the formation of robust blood clots. This work is expected to provide experimental and theoretical basis for the construction of hemostatic biomaterials based on clay minerals.

RESUMO

With the proposal of the "biological-psychological-social" model, clinical decision-makers and researchers have paid more attention to the bidirectional interactive effects between psychological factors and diseases. The brain-gut-microbiota axis, as an important pathway for communication between the brain and the gut, plays an important role in the occurrence and development of inflammatory bowel disease. This article reviews the mechanism by which psychological disorders mediate inflammatory bowel disease by affecting the brain-gut-microbiota axis. Research progress on inflammatory bowel disease causing "comorbidities of mind and body" through the microbiota-gut-brain axis is also described. In addition, to meet the needs of individualized treatment, this article describes some nontraditional and easily overlooked treatment strategies that have led to new ideas for "psychosomatic treatment".

RESUMO

The development of urbanization and the establishment of metropolitan areas causes the urban heat island to cross the original single-city scale and form a regional heat island (RHI) with a larger influence range. Due to the decreasing distance between cities, there is an urgent need to reevaluate RHI for urban agglomerations, considering all cities instead of a conventional single-city perspective. The impact of climatic conditions and human factors on heat islands still lacks a general method and framework for systematic evaluation. Therefore, we used land and night light data as background conditions to study the diurnal and seasonal changes of heat islands in the Zhengzhou metropolitan area, China. Pearson correlation analysis and random forest regression analysis were then used to explore the influence of climatic conditions and human factors on RHI and its internal relationship. We found that the daytime RHI had strong spatial heterogeneity and seasonal differences from 2001 to 2020. The daytime RHI was stronger than nighttime in spring, summer, and autumn, and the nighttime RHI was stronger than daytime in winter. From spring to winter, RHI increased first and then decreased during the daytime, while the opposite was observed at night. In this study, temperature has a greater effect on daytime RHI; CO2 and NL have a greater effect on nighttime RHI. There was strong spatial heterogeneity in the effects of climatic conditions and human factors on the RHI, with climatic conditions contributing more to the daytime RHI in the northern mountainous areas, while human factors had a greater impact on the nighttime RHI in the main urban areas of each location. The results of this study highlight more targeted and informed strategies for RHI mitigation in the Zhengzhou metropolitan area and provide helpful insights into RHI evaluation in other urban agglomerations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Burn patients with inhalation injury are at higher risk of developing pneumonia, and yet there is no reliable tool for the assessment of the risk for such patients at admission. This study aims to establish a predictive model for pneumonia risk for burn patients with inhalation injury based on clinical findings and laboratory tests. METHOD: This retrospective study enrolled 546 burn patients with inhalation injury. They were grouped into a training cohort and a validation cohort. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were utilized to identify risk factors for pneumonia. Based on the factors, a nomogram for predicting pneumonia in burn patients with inhalation injury was constructed. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC), calibration plots, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the efficiency of the nomogram in both the training and validation cohorts. RESULTS: The training cohort included 432 patients, and the validation cohort included 114 patients, with a total of 225 (41.2%) patients experiencing pneumonia. Inhalation injury, tracheal intubation/tracheostomy, low serum albumin, and high blood glucose were independent risk factors for pneumonia in burn patients with inhalation injury and they were further used to build the nomogram. The AUC of the nomogram in the training and validation cohorts were 0.938 (95% CI: 0.917-0.960) and 0.966 (95% CI: 0.931-1), respectively. The calibration curve for probability of pneumonia showed optimal agreement between the prediction by nomogram and the actual observation, and the DCA indicated that the constructed nomogram conferred high clinical net benefit. CONCLUSION: This nomogram can accurately predict the risk of developing pneumonia for burn patients with inhalation injury, and help professionals to identify high-risk patients at an early stage as well as to make informed clinical decisions.

RESUMO

Previous studies have shown a strong linear correlation between the common hydraulic indicators of free water surface constructed wetlands (FWS CWs), which results in the waste of computing resources and confusion in evaluating the hydraulic performance of FWS CWs. There is an urgent need to define a relatively independent and authoritative hydraulic indicator. In this study, based on three years' data, the correlations among five representative hydraulic indicators, that is, short-circuit index (φ10), Morrill dispersion index (MDI), effective volume ratio (e), moment index (MI), and hydraulic efficiency (λe), were analyzed by combining a variety of methods. The results of the correlation analysis and principal component analysis clearly showed the positive correlations among φ10, e, MI, and λe (p < 0.01), and the strong negative correlations between MDI and the remaining four indexes, which were further confirmed by redundancy analysis (RDA). Most importantly, the significant correlations between MI vs e and φ10 vs e were proved through rigorous mathematical reasoning for the first time. Besides, the results of RDA indicated that the studied design parameters, namely, water depth, hydraulic loading rate, plant spacing, aspect ratio, layout of inlet and outlet, and plant species, could generally explain the variation in hydraulic indicators. The layout of inlet and outlet displayed positive effects on hydraulic performance, and the water depth exhibited negative effects. Combining the clarity of physical meaning, convenience of calculation, and universality of reflecting both hydraulic and treatment performances, e was recommended as the most authoritative hydraulic indicator to evaluate hydraulic performance. The clustering results based on e were highly consistent with those based on the comprehensive principal component score. Wetlands with a combination of lower water depth and better layout of inlet and outlet usually have better hydraulic performance. This study successfully revealed the significant correlations among hydraulic indicators and their sources, and recommended a unique hydraulic indicator to authoritatively evaluate the hydraulic performance of FWS CWs.

RESUMO

Inexpensive and commercially available 2,4,6-triphenylpyrrolium tetrafluoroborate (TPT) is used as an organic photocatalyst for the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of unactivated fluoroarenes with pyrazole derivatives (SNAr) to form azole arenes. The use of organic photoredox catalysis enables the easy operation of this method under mild conditions. Various fluorinated aromatic compounds are suitable electrophiles for this transformation.

RESUMO

The present study systematically analyzed and evaluated the variations in chemical speciation, pollution assessment, and source identification of heavy metals in sediments of Huangpu River. The methods employed included heavy metal concentration, chemical speciation and Cu isotopic compositions analysis. Results showed that the chemical speciation of sediment-bound heavy metals, characterized by significant seasonal variation, shifted from non-residual fractions dominating in spring and summer to residual fractions dominating in autumn and winter. Precipitation was identified as an important factor influencing the chemical speciation of sediment-bound heavy metals. Furthermore, ratio of the secondary phase to the primary phase, RSP (=Cnon-residual/Cresidual) values in Huangpu River sediments were higher than 1 in spring and summer, indicating that sediment-bound heavy metals in Huangpu River were mainly composed of non-residual fractions and could potentially be released into the river water. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that navigation, traffic, agricultural, and industrial activities could be the potential sources of heavy metal pollution. Notably, the δ65Cu values in Huangpu River sediments were observed to be isotopically lighter (from -0.37 to +0.18 ‰), suggesting that navigation might be the primary pollution source. These results will not only provide guidance in reducing heavy metal concentrations, but also serve as a crucial basis for policy making regarding heavy metal control.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of aerobic exercise on AKT/GSK3ß pathway-mediated hepatocyte apoptosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases(NAFLD). METHODS: A total of 30 6-week-old male C57BL/6J mice, and mice were fed adaptively for one week. The control group was fed with ordinary diet, and the model group and model exercise group were fed with high-fat diet until 18 weeks. At the 10th week of the experiment, the model exercise group received aerobic exercise intervention for 8 consecutive weeks until the end of the experiment at the 18th week. Automatic biochemical analyzer to detect serum total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C) levels. Liver pathological morphology was observed by staining with oil red O and HE. The expression changes of AKT, P-AKT~( Ser473), GSK3ß, P-GSK3ß~(Ser9) and Caspase-3 proteins were detected by western blot, and the apoptosis of hepatocytes was detected by in situ terminal transferase labeling(TUNEL). RESULTS: (1) After intervention, compared with control group, body weight, liver index, serum TC, TG, ALT, AST and LDL-C levels in model group were significantly increased(P<0.01 or P<0.05), while HDL-C level was significantly decreased(P<0.01). Compared with model group, body weight, liver index, serum TC, TG, ALT, AST and LDL-C levels in model exercise group were significantly decreased(P<0.01 or P<0.05), while HDL-C level was significantly increased(P<0.01). (2) Compared with the control group, hepatocyte steatosis and the number of lipid droplets in model group were significantly increased. Compared with the model group, the degree of hepatic adipose degeneration was significantly improved and the number of hepatic lipid droplets was significantly decreased in the model exercise group. (3) Compared with control group, the protein expression levels of P-AKT~(Ser473) and P-GSK3ß~(Ser9) in model group were significantly decreased(P<0.01 or P<0.05), the protein expression levels of Caspase-3 were significantly increased(P<0.05), and the number of hepatocyte apoptosis was significantly increased(P<0.05). Compared with model group, the expression of P-AKT~(Ser473) and P-GSK3ß~(Ser9) protein in model exercise group was significantly increased(P<0.01 or P<0.05), the expression of Caspase-3 protein was significantly decreased(P<0.05), and the number of hepatocyte apoptosis was significantly decreased(P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Aerobic exercise can effectively improve NAFLD, by activating AKT/GSK3ß pathway and increasing the expression of AKT/GSK3ß pathway related molecules, thereby reducing caspase-3 expression and hepatocyte apoptosis.

RESUMO

Quantitative prediction of the design parameter-influenced hydraulic performance is significant for optimizing free water surface constructed wetlands (FWS CWs) to reduce point and non-point source pollution and improve land utilization. However, owing to limitations of the test conditions and data scale, a quantitative prediction model of the hydraulic performance under multiple design parameters has not yet been established. In this study, we integrated field test data, mechanism model, statistical regression, and machine learning (ML) to construct such quantitative prediction models. A FWS CW numerical model was established by integrating 13 groups of trace data from field tests. Subsequently, training, test and extension datasets comprising 125 (5^3), 25 (L25(56)) and 16 (L16(44)) data points, respectively, were generated via numerical simulation of multi-level value combination of three quantitative design parameters, namely, water depth, hydraulic loading rate (HLR), and aspect ratio. The short circuit index (φ10), Morrill dispersion index (MDI), hydraulic efficiency (λ) and moment index (MI) were used as representative hydraulic performance indicators. Training set with large samples were analyzed to determine the variation rules of different hydraulic indicators. Based on the control variable method, φ10, λ, and MI grew exponentially with increasing aspect ratio whereas MDI showed a decreasing trend; with increasing water depth, φ10, λ, and MI showed polynomial decreases whereas MDI increased; with increasing HLR, φ10, λ, and MI slowly increased linearly whereas MDI showed the opposite trend. Finally, we constructed models based on multivariate nonlinear regression (MNLR) and ML (random forest (RF), multilayer perceptron (MLP), and support vector regression. The coefficients of determination (R2) of the MNLR and ML models fitting the training and test sets were all greater than 0.9; however, the generalization abilities of different models in the extension set were different. The most robust MLP, MNLR without interaction term, and RF models were recommended as the preferred models to hydraulic performance prediction. The extreme importance of aspect ratio in hydraulic performance was revealed. Thus, gaps in the current understanding of multivariate quantitative prediction of the hydraulic performance of FWS CWs are addressed while providing an avenue for researching FWS CWs in different regions according to local conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of obesity, as well as obesity-induced chronic inflammatory diseases, is increasing worldwide. Chronic inflammation is related to the complex process of angiogenesis, and we found that adipose-derived stem cells from obese subjects (obADSCs) had proangiogenic features, including higher expression levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), Notch ligands and receptors, and proangiogenic cytokines, than those from control subjects. We hypothesized that IL-6 and Notch signaling pathways are essential for regulating the proangiogenic characteristics of obADSCs. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate whether the inflammatory cytokine interleukin 6 (IL-6) promotes the proangiogenic capacity of adipose stem cells in obese subjects via the IL-6 signaling pathway. METHODS: We compared the phenotype analysis as well as cell doubling time, proliferation, migration, differentiation, and proangiogenic properties of ADSCs in vitro. Moreover, we used small interfering RNAs to inhibit the gene and protein expression of IL-6. RESULTS: We found that ADSCs isolated from control individuals (chADSCs) and obADSCs had similar phenotypes and growth characteristics, and chADSCs had a stronger differentiation ability than obADSCs. However, obADSCs were more potent in promoting EA.hy926 cell migration and tube formation than chADSCs in vitro. We confirmed that IL-6 siRNA significantly reduced the transcriptional level of IL-6 in obADSCs, thereby reducing the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)- A, VEGF receptor 2, transforming growth factor ß, and Notch ligands and receptors in obADSCs. CONCLUSION: The finding suggests that inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) promotes the proangiogenic ability of obADSCs via the IL-6 signaling pathway.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer in infants and the most common extracranial solid tumor in childhood. DRR1 was identified to be downregulated in poorly differentiated ganglion cells from neuroblastoma model mice. However, the roles of DRR1 in neuroblastoma remain largely unclear. METHODS: The neuroblastoma cells were induced to differentiate, and the expression of DRR1 was detected. The expression of the neuroblastoma cell differentiation markers was analyzed in DRR1 shRNA- or DRR1-expressing vector-treated neuroblastoma cells. The downstream genes of DRR1 were screened with ChIP-seq assay. Finally, TNB1 cells were infected with DRR1 shRNA and CREB expressing vector containing lentivirus, and the expression of the cell differentiation markers, cell cycle distribution and tumor growth were analyzed. RESULTS: The expression of DRR1 was increased in differentiated neuroblastoma cells, and downregulation of DRR1 expression inhibited the differentiation of neuroblastoma cells. Further experiments indicated that CREB is a candidate downstream gene of DRR1, and it mediates neuroblastoma cell differentiation. Moreover, overexpression of CREB rescued the effect of DRR1 shRNA on cell differentiation, cell cycle distribution and tumor growth in neuroblastoma. CONCLUSIONS: DRR1-CREB axis modulates the differentiation of neuroblastoma cells and is associated with the outcome of neuroblastoma patients. IMPACT: DRR1 is involved in regulation of the differentiation of neuroblastoma. Binding with actin is essential for DRR1 to regulate neuroblastoma cell differentiation. CREB is a candidate downstream gene of DRR1 in regulating of the differentiation of neuroblastoma.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the effects of aerobic exercise on non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) induced by high fat and the mechanism of CNPY2-PERK pathway. Methods: Eight-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into four groups: the control group (C), the C+ aerobic exercise group (CE), the model group (M) and the M+ aerobic exercise group (ME). Mice in group C and CE were given normal diet, while mice in group M and ME were given high-fat diet (60 cal % fat). The mice were fed continuously for 18 weeks until the end of the experiment, and the serum and liver samples were collected. Both CE and ME group performed an aerobic treadmill training from the 10th week (12 m/min, 60 min/ day, 5 days/week, for 8 weeks). The serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were detected. The pathological morphology of the liver was observed. The relative expressions of CNPY2, PERK, p-eIF2a, CHOP, CNPY2 mRNA and PERK mRNA, and the positive expressions of CNPY2 and PERK were measured. Results: Compared with group C, the serum levels of LDL-c, TC, TG, ALT and AST in group M were increased significantly (P<0.05), while the HDL-c level was decreased significantly (P<0.05). The liver tissues of mice showed obvious hepatic steatosis, the number of lipid droplets in liver cells was increased, and the expressions of CNPY2, CNPY2mRNA, PERK, PERKmRNA, p-eIF2a, CHOP, and the positive expressions of both CNPY2 and PERK in liver were increased (P<0.05). However, the above indexes showed no significant difference in CE group (P>0.05). Compared with group M, the serum levels of LDL-c, TC, TG, ALT and AST in group ME were decreased (P<0.05). The fatty degeneration of liver tissue and the number of lipid droplets in liver cells in mice was reduced, and the expressions of CNPY2, CNPY2 mRNA, PERK, PERK mRNA, p-eIF2a, CHOP, and the positive expressions of CNPY2 and PERK in liver tissue were decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion: The CNPY2-PERK pathway is involved in the formation of NAFLD. Aerobic exercise can effectively ameliorate NAFLD, and the mechanisms may be related to the reduction of CNPY2-PERK pathway-related molecule expressions by aerobic exercise.

RESUMO

The presence of organic co-substrate in groundwater and soils is inevitable, and much remains to be learned about the roles of organic co-substrates during pyrite-based denitrification. Herein, an organic co-substrate (acetate) was added to a pyrite-based denitrification system, and the impact of the organic co-substrate on the performance and bacterial community of pyrite-based denitrification processes was evaluated. The addition of organic co-substrate at concentrations higher than 48 mg L-1 inhibited pyrite-based autotrophic denitrification, as no sulfate was produced in treatments with high organic co-substrate addition. In contrast, both competition and promotion effects on pyrite-based autotrophic denitrification occurred with organic co-substrate addition at concentrations of 24 and 48 mg L-1. The subsequent validation experiments suggested that competition had a greater influence than promotion when organic co-substrate was added, even at a low concentration. Thiobacillus, a common chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing denitrifier, dominated the system with a relative abundance of 13.04% when pyrite served as the sole electron donor. With the addition of organic co-substrate, Pseudomonas became the dominant genus, with 60.82%, 61.34%, 70.37%, 73.44%, and 35.46% abundance at organic matter concentrations of 24, 48, 120, 240, and 480 mg L-1, respectively. These findings provide an important theoretical basis for the cultivation of pyrite-based autotrophic denitrifying microorganisms for nitrate removal in soils and groundwater.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The persistence of threatened and protected wildlife depends not only on habitat suitability but also remarkably on local communities' acceptance. The black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis) is a flagship species for conservation on the plateau in western China. However, the human dimension has been completely ignored in the decision-making process for conservation. METHODS: In this study, a questionnaire survey aiming to assess knowledge of and conservation attitude toward this bird was carried out among 1042 students of 7th and 9th grade from 12 schools in Weining county, Guizhou province, which has a large wintering population in an urban wetland. Logistic regression was used in the generalized linear model to identify the determinants that significantly affect students' knowledge of and conservation attitude toward this species. RESULTS: Most students have positive attitudes toward conservation, which is significantly affected by awareness, knowledge of this bird and grade. However, they have somewhat limited knowledge of this bird's biology and ecosystem services (nature's contributions to people). Knowledge was found to link with observation of the bird and grade, while observation related to the experience of visiting the wetland. Social media is the most cited resource to obtain knowledge on this bird. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that local conservation experts could help introduce more information on the black-necked crane in the schools and help conduct outdoor education activities in and around the wetland. Traditional knowledge and culture could also be incorporated into the conservation awareness enhancing program. This study focuses on the human dimension for conserving the black-necked crane in China, showing significant implications in the design and application of effective measurements to improve students' perception and attitude toward its conservation. Future assessments should include other local populations, such as farmers, fishers, and urban citizens.

RESUMO

As the new coronavirus pneumonia swept the world in 2020, the demand for antibacterial products significantly increased. In this study, a soy protein isolate nano-silver hydrosol was prepared using an environmentally friendly Ag+ in situ reduction process, where the soy protein was ultrasonically blended with polyacrylic resin to obtain a polyacrylate-nano silver antibacterial wood coating. The structure of the soy protein isolate nano-silver hydrosol was assessed, and the structure and antibacterial and mechanical properties of the film were characterized. The results showed that the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibited good crystallinity and were evenly distributed in the emulsion. The composite film had good antibacterial properties against gram-negative bacteria represented by Escherichia coli and gram-positive bacteria represented by Staphylococcus aureus. With increased nano-silver content, the diameter of the inhibition zone increased from 0 to 30 mm, and from 18 to 50 mm for the two bacteria, respectively. Moreover, the elastic modulus of the film increased from 8.173 to 97.912 MPa, and the elongation at break decreased from 240.601 to 41.038% as the content of AgNPs changed from 0.1 to 1%, respectively. Thus, this study provides a new method for preparing waterborne polyacrylate coatings with excellent antibacterial properties.

RESUMO

The random fluctuation of wind energy is so strong that the output power cannot be predicted in time and accurately, which will influence the safety and stability of the power system. By analyzing the output power and meteorological data, the ultra-short-term power forecast method of the wind farm has been studied in this paper. Firstly, all the feature data are preprocessed and part of them with stronger correlation with the output power are obtained according to the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm. Then, with the reconstructed datasets and the Tree-structured Parzen Estimator (TPE) algorithm, the optimal temporal convolution network (TCN) is achieved to forecast the output power. Finally, with respect to a certain wind farm in China, ablation study and comparative experiments are conducted respectively. The ablation experiment results show that by adding the feature selection procedure into all the models, the indicators RMSE and MAE are obviously reduced as well as the running time of the model. Among them, our proposed method based on XGBoost and TCN performs best, which provides a new prospect for investigating the ultra-short-term wind power forecast problem.

RESUMO

The eco-friendly insulating medium C5F10O gas has attracted the attention of many researchers due to its superior environmental protection and insulation properties. However, there are few studies on the compatibility of C5F10O gas with sealing materials for the gas-insulated equipment (GIE), which will bury hidden dangers for its engineering application. In this study, the compatibility of C5F10O gas with an ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) sealing material which is most used in equipment was tested, and its reaction mechanism was simulated. The study found that the O element on the carbonyl group of C5F10O gas has high chemical reactivity and will interact with EPDM rubber. During the interaction process, EPDM rubber will also react with the C3F6 gas generated by the decomposition of C5F10O gas, and at the same time, it will also decompose C5F10O gas to produce more C3F6O and C3HF7. The surface of EPDM rubber will produce oily substances and a large number of crystal particles, which will cause its mechanical properties to deteriorate and shorten its service life. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out anti-corrosion treatment on the surface of EPDM rubber or replace the sealing material with better compatibility when designing and manufacturing GIE.

RESUMO

A single injection of low-dose human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) has been previously demonstrated to relieve synovitis and bone erosion in animal models of arthritis, but whether frequent injections of high-dose UC-MSCs relieve arthritis and inhibit loss of muscle mass has remained elusive. In the present study, DBA/1 mice were randomly divided into three groups: Normal (wild-type mice; n=11), collagen-induced arthritis (CIA; n=12) and CIA treated with UC-MSCs (n=11; 5x106 UC-MSCs per week for 3 weeks). Arthritis and skeletal muscle cachexia were evaluated until the end of the experiment on day 84. It was indicated that both the CIA and UC-MSC groups had lower body weights compared with the normal mice. Clinical arthritis scores, hind ankle diameters, synovitis and bone erosion progressively increased and were similar between the CIA and UC-MSC groups. Although there was no difference in food intake among the three groups, the normalized food intake of normal group was significantly higher than CIA group and UC-MSC group from day 42 onwards; there was no significance on day 77 but this could be neglected. Furthermore, gastrocnemius muscle weight in the UC-MSC group was significantly reduced compared with that in the CIA and normal groups. The UC-MSC group had higher levels of proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß than those in the CIA group. However, the other cytokines assessed and the fibrosis indices in the CIA and UC-MSC groups were not different from those in the control group and there was no inflammatory cell infiltration. Thus, frequent injections of high-dose UC-MSCs slightly aggravated synovitis and muscle cachexia in the murine CIA model and should therefore be avoided in the treatment of arthritis.

RESUMO

Thanks to its simplicity, versatility, and secondary reactivity, dopamine self-polymerized coatings (pDA) have been widely used in surface modification of biomaterials, but the limitation in secondary molecular grafting and the high roughness restrain their application in some special scenarios. Therefore, some other catecholamine coatings analog to pDA have attracted more and more attention, including the smoother poly-norepinephrine coating (pNE), and the poly-levodopa coating (pLD) containing additional carboxyl groups. However, the lack of a systematic comparison of the properties, especially the biological properties of the above three catecholamine coatings, makes it difficult to give a guiding opinion on the application scenarios of different coatings. Herein, we systematically studied the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the three catecholamine coatings, and explored the feasibility of their application for the modification of biomaterials, especially cardiovascular materials. Among them, the pDA coating was the roughest, with the largest amount of amino and phenolic hydroxyl groups for molecule grafting, and induced the strongest platelet adhesion and activation. The pLD coating was the thinnest and most hydrophilic but triggered the strongest inflammatory response. The pNE coating was the smoothest, with the best hemocompatibility and histocompatibility, and with the strongest cell selectivity of promoting the proliferation of endothelial cells while inhibiting the proliferation of smooth muscle cells. To sum up, the pNE coating may be a better choice for the surface modification of cardiovascular materials, especially those for vascular stents and grafts, but it is still not widely recognized.
