RESUMO

Assembly of macromolecular complexes at correct cellular sites is crucial for cell function. Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) are large cylindrical assemblies with eightfold rotational symmetry, built through hierarchical binding of nucleoporins (Nups) forming distinct subcomplexes. Here, we uncover a role of ubiquitin-associated protein 2-like (UBAP2L) in the assembly and stability of properly organized and functional NPCs at the intact nuclear envelope (NE) in human cells. UBAP2L localizes to the nuclear pores and facilitates the formation of the Y-complex, an essential scaffold component of the NPC, and its localization to the NE. UBAP2L promotes the interaction of the Y-complex with POM121 and Nup153, the critical upstream factors in a well-defined sequential order of Nups assembly onto NE during interphase. Timely localization of the cytoplasmic Nup transport factor fragile X-related protein 1 (FXR1) to the NE and its interaction with the Y-complex are likewise dependent on UBAP2L. Thus, this NPC biogenesis mechanism integrates the cytoplasmic and the nuclear NPC assembly signals and ensures efficient nuclear transport, adaptation to nutrient stress, and cellular proliferative capacity, highlighting the importance of NPC homeostasis at the intact NE.

RESUMO

Zintl compounds have continuously received significant attention, primarily due to their structural characteristics that align with the properties of the electron crystal and phonon glass. In this study, the crystal structure and thermoelectric properties of the quaternary Zintl chalcogenide BaScCuTe3 are investigated. The band structure calculations for BaScCuTe3 reveal a slight energy split of 0.08 eV between the second valence band and the valence band maximum, suggesting the presence of multiband-transport behaviors. Substitution of rare earth Gd for Sc is conducted, which significantly increases the hole concentration from 4.1 × 1019 cm-3 to 8.2 × 1019 cm-3 at room temperature. Meanwhile, the Seebeck coefficient increases because of the participation of the second valence band. A maximum power factor of 6.56 µW/cm·K2 at 773 K is obtained, which is 72% higher than that of the pristine sample. Moreover, the lattice thermal conductivity decreases from 0.57 W/m·K for BaScCuTe3 to 0.48 W/m·K for BaSc0.97Gd0.03CuTe3 at 773 K, owing to the introduction of point-defect scattering. As a result, there is a noteworthy improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit zT, increasing from 0.44 for the undoped sample to 0.85 for BaSc0.98Gd0.02CuTe3. Considering these findings, BaScCuTe3 exhibits great potential and holds promise for further investigation in the field of thermoelectric materials.

RESUMO

Calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture, an extra-articular injury, is a rare fracture caused internally by Achilles tendon driven following intense contraction of gastrocnemius-soleus complex, and externally by low-energy (possibly high-energy). Moreover, the risk of injuries of the skin and Achilles tendon around calcaneal tuberosity is closely related to Lee classification and Carnero-Martín de Soto Classification of calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture. Although the diagnosis confirmed by X-ray, digital imaging and computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) should also be used to evaluate soft tissue. In recent years, the understanding of this fracture has witnessed the development of different internal fixation devices and surgical procedures. These advances have been further elaborated scientifically in terms of their ability to provide stable fracture reduction ad resistance to Achilles tendon forces. In order to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the disease, this article reviewed the new understanding of the anatomy, typing, risk factors, and treatment modalities of calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture in recent years.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Three distinct models were utilized to investigate the combined impacts of serum aldehyde exposure and periodontitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional analysis using data from 525 participants in the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The directed acyclic graphs (DAG) were used to select a minimal sufficient adjustment set of variables (MSAs). To investigate the relationship between aldehydes and periodontitis, we established three models including multiple logistic regression model, restricted cubic spline (RCS) model, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) model. RESULTS: After taking all covariates into account, the multiple logistic regression model revealed that elevated concentrations of isopentanaldehyde and propanaldehyde were strongly associated with periodontitis (isopentanaldehyde: OR: 2.38, 95% CI: 1.34-4.23; propanaldehyde: OR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.08-2.13). Furthermore, the third tertile concentration of isopentanaldehyde was associated with a 2.04-fold increase in the incidence of periodontitis (95% CI: 1.05-3.95) compared to the first tertile concentration, with a P for trend = 0.04. RCS models showed an "L"-shaped relationship between isopentanaldehyde and periodontitis (P for nonlinear association < 0.01), with inflection point of 0.43 ng/mL. BKMR identified a strong connection between mixed aldehydes and periodontitis, with isopentanaldehyde exhibiting the greatest posterior inclusion probability (PIP) with 0.901 and propanaldehyde exhibiting a PIP with 0.775. CONCLUSIONS: Isopentanaldehyde and propanaldehyde are positively associated with the risk of periodontitis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Periodontitis may be associated with exposure to mixed aldehyde. This study emphasizes the important role of aldehydes in primary prevention of periodontitis.

RESUMO

Background: In patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) exhibiting no evidence of disease (NED), this study assessed the efficacy and safety of capecitabine maintenance therapy. Methods: The single-arm, phase II CAMCO trial enrolled mCRC-NED patients after first-line treatment, administering oral capecitabine maintenance for 1 year. Results: A total of 93 patients were enrolled. The primary end point, 3-year disease-free survival, yielded a rate of 51.6% (95% CI: 41.3-62.0%). Secondary end points included a 3-year overall survival rate of 83.9% (95% CI: 76.3-91.5%). Grade 3 adverse events (AE) were observed in seven patients (7.5%). Predominantly grade 1 and 2, the most common AE was hand-foot syndrome. Conclusion: In mCRC-NED patients, capecitabine maintenance demonstrated a manageable 3-year disease-free survival rate of 51.6%, accompanied by manageable AEs. Clinical Trial Registration: NCT01880658 (ClinicalTrials.gov).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Salvianolic acid C (SAC) is a natural compound derived from Salvia miltiorrhiza that can protect against renal diseases. The aims of this work were to explore the effect of SAC on kidney tubulointerstitial fibrosis and study the associated mechanism. METHODS: Models for unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) and aristolochic acid I (AAI) were established in mice to study renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis. Rat kidney fibroblasts (NRK-49F) and human kidney epithelial cells (HK2) were used as cellular models to evaluate the effects of SAC on kidney fibrosis. RESULTS: Treatment with SAC for two weeks reduced the level of renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis in UUO- and AAI-induced fibrotic kidneys, as demonstrated by Masson's staining and Western blot. SAC inhibited extracellular matrix protein expression in NRK-49F cells and TGF-ß-stimulated HK2 cells in dose-dependent fashion. Moreover, SAC inhibited the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) factors in animal and cellular models of kidney fibrosis, as well as the EMT-related transcription factor snail. Furthermore, SAC inhibited the fibrosis-related signaling pathway Smad3 in the fibrotic kidneys of two mouse models and in renal cells. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that SAC inhibits EMT and ameliorates tubulointerstitial fibrosis through involvement of the signaling pathway for transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß)/Smad.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between sleep duration and type II diabetes in adults. METHOD: Computer databases searches were carried out through October 1, 2022, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science. Relevant literature was collected, and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and extracted data were used to exclude studies and evaluate quality on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.4.1 software with random/fixed effects models. RESULTS: A total of 5 studies with 74,226 subjects (31,611 in the male study group, 42,615 in the female study group) were included. The meta-analysis revealed that women with long sleep duration (LSD) have a higher risk for developing type II diabetes than men, OR = 0.70; 95% CI 0.59-0.84, Z = 4.00 and P < 0.001. Men with short sleep duration (SSD) tended to have a higher risk in developing type II diabetes than women though the difference between men and women did not reach statistical significance, OR = 1.09, 95% CI 0.73-1.62, Z = 0.42 and P = 0.68. Further subgroup analysis by regional populations suggested that men in Europe and America with SSD had a higher risk of type II diabetes OR = 1.52, 95% CI 1.04-2.21, Z = 2.18 and P = 0.03. CONCLUSION: Women with LSD may have a higher risk for type II diabetes, and men in Europe and America with SSD may have a higher risk for type II diabetes than men of other regions.

RESUMO

AIM: Mammalian STE20-like protein kinase 2 (MST2) plays an important role in apoptosis and the development of many disorders. Here, we aim to explore if genetic variants in MST2 are associated with the risk of non-syndromic cleft lip with or without palate (NSCL/P). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The association study was performed in a two-stage study of 1,069 cases and 1,724 controls to evaluate the association between genetic variants in the MST2 and NSCL/P risk. The potential function of the candidate single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was predicted using HaploReg, RegulomeDB, and public craniofacial histone chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) data. Haploview was used to perform the haplotype of risk alleles. The expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) effect was assessed using the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project. Gene expression in mouse embryo tissue was performed using data downloaded from GSE67985. The potential role of candidate gene in the development of NSCL/P was assessed by correlation and enrichment analysis. RESULTS: Among SNPs in MST2, rs2922070 C allele (Pmeta = 2.93E-04) and rs6988087 T allele (Pmeta = 1.57E-03) were linked with significantly increased risk of NSCL/P. Rs2922070, rs6988087 and their high linkage disequilibrium (LD) SNPs constituted a risk haplotype of NSCL/P. Individuals carrying 3-4 risk alleles had an elevated risk of NSCL/P compared to those who carried less risk alleles (P = 2.00E-04). The eQTL analysis revealed a significant association between these two variants and MST2 in muscle tissue of the body. The MST2 expressed during mouse craniofacial development and over-expressed in the human orbicularis oris muscle (OOM) of NSCL/P patients compared to controls. MST2 was involved in the development of NSCL/P by regulating the mRNA surveillance pathway, the MAPK signaling pathway, the neurotrophin signaling pathway, the FoxO signaling pathway and the VEGF signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: MST2 was associated with the development of NSCL/P.

RESUMO

As a promising non-thermal physical technology, ultrasound has attracted extensive attention in recent years, and has been applied to many food processing operation units, such as involving filtration, freezing, thawing, sterilization, cutting, extraction, aging, etc. It is also widely used in the processing of meat products, fruits and vegetables, and dairy products. With regard to its application in winemaking, most of the studies available in the literature are focused on the impact of ultrasound on a certain characteristic of wine, lacking of systematic sorting of these literatures. This review systematically summarizes and explores the current achievements and problems of the application of ultrasound to the different stages of winemaking, including extraction, fermentation, aging and sterilization. Summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasound application in winemaking and its development in future development.

RESUMO

Owing to the contribution of cranial neural crest cells (CNCCs) to the majority of craniofacial structures, they have been studied extensively for the pathogenesis of craniofacial diseases. To investigate and summarize how to isolate and culture the CNCCs from wild-type mice, a literature search was performed in online databases (PubMed and Web of Science) using optimized keywords "mouse," "cranial neural crest cell" and "culture." The literature was checked by two investigators according to the screening and exclusion criteria. Initially, 197 studies were retrieved from PubMed and 169 from Web of Science, and after excluding replicate studies, 293 articles were considered. Finally, 17 studies met all the criteria and were included in this review. The results showed that obtaining purified stem cells and balancing the need to promote cell growth and prevent unwanted early cell differentiation were the two key points in the isolation and culture of CNCCs. However, no standard criteria are available for answering these questions. Thus, it is important to emphasize the necessity for standardization of CNCC isolation, culture, and identification in research on craniofacial diseases.

RESUMO

Objective: This study is undertaken to explore the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and osteoporosis, including the relationship between OSAHS and osteoporosis incidence, lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD), and lumbar spine T-score. Method: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and other databases are searched from their establishment to April 2022. Literature published in 4 databases on the correlation between OSAHS and osteoporosis, lumbar spine BMD,lumbar spine T-score is collected. Review Manager 5.4 software is used for meta-analysis. Results: A total of 15 articles are selected, including 113082 subjects. Compared with the control group, the OSAHS group has a higher incidence of osteoporosis (OR = 2.03, 95% CI: 1.26~3.27, Z = 2.90, P = 0.004), the lumbar spine BMD is significantly lower (MD = -0.05, 95% CI: -0.08~-0.02, Z = 3.07, P = 0.002), and the lumbar spine T-score is significantly decreased (MD = -0.47, 95% CI: -0.79~-0.14, Z = 2.83, P = 0. 005). Conclusion: Compared with the control group, the OSAHS group has a higher incidence of osteoporosis and decreased lumbar spine BMD and T-score. In order to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, attention should be paid to the treatment and management of adult OSAHS, and active sleep intervention should be carried out.

RESUMO

Hemolytic disease in grass carp (C. idella) leads to hemolysis in vivo, releasing damage-related molecular patterns (DAMPs) hemoglobin (Hb; which is rapidly oxidized to Hb-Fe3+ and Hb-Fe4+) and generating a high level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause oxidative damage. However, the effect of cell-free Hb on tissue cells of grass carp has yet to be elucidated. In this study, western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence analysis (IFA) results showed that PHZ-induced hemolysis caused Hb and iron accumulation, increased the production of ROS and resulted in apoptosis in head kidney and middle kidney of the grass carp. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), WB, and IFA revealed that PHZ-induced hemolysis significantly upregulated the expression of inflammation-related genes through activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. To further explore the effect of Hb, three forms of Hb (Hb, MetHb, and FerrylHb) were prepared. The incubation with the different forms of Hb and heme markedly upregulated the expression of cytokine genes through NF-κB signaling pathway, which was further confirmed by a specific inhibitor (caffeic acid phenethyl ester, CAPE). Flow cytometry analysis data showed that the stimulation of different forms of Hb and heme increased the production of ROS, and resulted in apoptosis. In summary, our data suggest that the excess cell-free Hb released during hemolysis modulates the inflammatory response through activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway and causes cell oxidative damage and apoptosis.

RESUMO

Objective: This study seeks to investigate the relationship between Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) and hearing impairment by meta-analysis. Methods: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and other databases are searched from their establishment to July 1st, 2022. Literature on the relationship between OSAHS and hearing loss is collected, and two researchers independently perform screening, data extraction and quality evaluation on the included literature. Meta-analysis is performed using RevMan 5.4.1 software. According to the heterogeneity between studies, a random-effects model or fixed-effects model is used for meta-analysis. Results: A total of 10 articles are included, with 7,867 subjects, 1,832 in the OSAHS group and 6,035 in the control group. The meta-analysis shows that the incidence of hearing impairment in the OSAHS group is higher than in the control group (OR = 1.38; 95% CI 1.18-1.62, Z = 4.09, P < 0.001), and the average hearing threshold of OSAHS patients is higher than that of the control group (MD = 5.89; 95% CI 1.87-9.91, Z = 2.87, P = 0.004). After stratifying the included studies according to hearing frequency, the meta-analysis shows that the OSAHS group has a higher threshold of 0.25, and the response amplitudes at frequencies 2, 4, 6, and 8 kHz are all higher than those of the control group. Conclusion: Compared with the control group, the OSAHS group has a higher incidence of hearing loss, mainly high-frequency hearing loss. Thus, OSAHS is closely associated with and a risk factor for hearing loss.

RESUMO

Objective: This paper evaluates the application value of the STOP-Bang questionnaire combined with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) in screening for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the population. Method: Thousand-six hundred seventy-one patients with suspected OSA who visited the Sleep Medicine Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from August 2017 to August 2020 were monitored by overnight polysomnography (PSG) after completing the ESS scale and STOP-Bang questionnaire. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the two scales were calculated, and the accuracy in predicting OSA of the STOP-Bang questionnaire combined with ESS was analyzed. Results: With Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) cutoffs of ≥5, ≥15 and ≥30 events/h, the areas under the ROC curve scored by STOP-Bang were 0.724, 0.703 and 0.712, and those of ESS were 0.632, 0.634 and 0.695; the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) values of STOP-Bang for OSA, moderate to severe OSA, and severe OSA were 3.349, 2.651 and 3.189, and those of ESS were 2.665, 2.279 and 3.289. The STOP-Bang score of three was used as the cut-off point for OSA diagnosis with higher sensitivity and lower specificity, while ESS had higher specificity. STOP-Bang (≥3) combined with ESS significantly improved its specificity for predicting OSA. Conclusion: The STOP-Bang questionnaire is a simple and effective new tool for screening patients for OSA, while a STOP-Bang score of ≥3 combined with ESS can further improve its specificity. Thus, we suggest further screening with ESS after a STOP-Bang score of ≥3 in suspected patients.

RESUMO

Objective: A meta-analysis is used to explore the relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the risk of Sleep disturbances. Method: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases are searched by computer from their establishment to 1 May 2022. Review Manager 5.4 software is used for the meta-analysis. Results: A total of nine articles are included, with 1,107 subjects. The results show that PCOS is positively associated with the risk of Sleep disturbances. Comparing with the "PCOS group" (experimental group) with the "NON-PCOS group" (control group), the incidence of Sleep disturbances is higher (OR = 11.24, 95% CI: 2.00-63.10, Z = 2.75, p = 0.006); the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores of the PCOS group is higher than that of the NON-PCOS group (MD = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.32-1.25, Z = 3.30, p = 0.001); the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) scores of the PCOS group is higher than that of the NON-PCOS group (MD = 2.49, 95% CI: 0.80-4.18, Z = 2.88, p = 0.004); Apnea hypopnea index (AHIs) in the PCOS group are higher than those in the NON-PCOS group (MD = 2.68, 95% CI: 1.07-4.28, Z = 3.27, p = 0.001); the sleep efficiency of the PCOS group is lower than that of the NON-PCOS group (MD = -5.16, 95% CI: 9.39--0.93, Z = 2.39, p = 0.02); the sleep onset latency of the PCOS group is higher than that of the NON-PCOS group (MD = 2.45, 95% CI: 1.40-3.50, Z = 4.57, p < 0.001); and the Rapid Eyes Movement (REM) sleep in the PCOS group is higher than that in the NON-PCOS group (MD = 17.19, 95% CI: 11.62-55.76, Z = 6.05, p < 0.001). The studies included in each analysis have publication biases of different sizes. After subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis, the heterogeneity of each study in the meta-analysis is reduced, the bias is reduced accordingly, and the stability of the results can be maintained. Conclusion: PCOS is positively associated with the risk of Sleep disturbances. In order to reduce such risk, attention should be paid to the role of PCOS management, and PCOS prevention and treatment should be actively carried out.

RESUMO

Objective: The purpose of this meta-analysis is to systematically assess the effects of psychological intervention on empathy fatigue among nursing staff. Method: Five electronic databases are searched separately from their establishment to April 8th, 2022. The research team independently performs paper selection, quality assessment, data extraction and analysis for all included studies. PRISMA guidelines are used to report this meta-analysis. Results: A total of seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) covering 513 nursing staff are included. The meta-analysis results show that the empathy fatigue score (SMD = -0.22, 95% CI: -0.42~-0.02, P = 0.03) and burnout (SMD = -0.37, 95% CI: -0.56~-0.19, P < 0.001) are lower than the control group. The empathy satisfaction score of the psychological intervention group is higher than that of the control group (SMD = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.27-0.63, P < 0.001). The differences are statistically significant (P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis finds significant heterogeneity in the impact of different departments on psychological intervention at ≥6 weeks (I 2 = 71%, P = 0.01) and <6 weeks (I 2 = 0%, P = 0.75) (P = 0.05). Different departments also show significant heterogeneity in the effects of psychological intervention: ICU (I 2 = 73%, P = 0.02), pediatric (I 2 = 53%, P = 0.14) and other departments (I 2 = 0%, P = 0.63). The differences are statistically significant (P = 0.0007). Besides, the results show that both mindfulness intervention (SMD = 0.50, 95% CI: 0.24-0.77, P = 0.0002) and other interventions (SMD = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.16-0.65, P = 0.001) are statistically significant difference in the level of empathy satisfaction between the psychological intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: Psychological intervention has a coordinated improvement effect on empathy fatigue, empathy satisfaction and burnout, and can also improve the quality of life of nursing staff.

RESUMO

Mammalian protein arginine methyltransferase 3 (PRMT3) catalyzes the monomethylation and dimethylation of the arginine residues of proteins. The role of PRMT3 in renal fibrosis is currently unknown. We aimed to study the role of PRMT3 in renal fibrosis and explored its underlying mechanisms. Quantitative PCR analysis and Western blotting analysis showed that the expression of PRMT3 was up-regulated in unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) mouse kidneys. Knockout of Prmt3 gene enhanced interstitial fibrosis in UUO kidneys as shown by Masson staining and Western blotting analysis the expression of pro-fibrotic markers. The production of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) was increased in wide type UUO kidneys but not further increased in Prmt3 knockout UUO kidneys. Administration of exogeneous ADMA in UUO kidneys blocked the enhanced renal interstitial fibrosis in Prmt3 mutant mice. Moreover, genetic deletion of Prmt3 gene increased blood urea nitrogen levels and renal deposition of collagen in folic acid injected mice. We conclude that PRMT3 inhibits renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis through elevating renal ADMA levels.

RESUMO

Objective: A meta-analysis is used to explore the relationship of sleep quality and duration with the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Method: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and other databases are searched from their establishment to April 2022. Literature on the relationship of sleep quality and duration with DR risk published in various databases is collected, and two researchers independently screen the literature, extract data, and evaluate the quality of the included articles. The meta-analysis is performed with Review Manage 5.4.1 software. Results: A total of 7 articles are selected, including 4,626 subjects. The results show a strong correlation between sleep quality and DR risk. When comparing the sleep quality scores of "DR" (experimental group) and "NO DR" (control group), the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) score of the DR group is significantly higher than that of the NO DR group (MD = 2.85; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.92, 3.78, P<0.001), while the ESS score of the DR group is also significantly higher than that of the NO DR group (MD = 1.17; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.14 to 2.30, P=0.04), so the sleep quality score of the DR group is higher than that of the NO DR group in both the PSQI and ESS scores, which confirms that low sleep quality is a risk factor for DR. Long sleep duration is also associated with the risk of developing DR; the number of adverse events (DR prevalence) is higher for "long sleep duration" than "normal sleep duration" [OR = 1.83, 95%CI 1.36-2.47, P < 0.001], suggesting that long sleep duration can cause increased DR risk. Short sleep duration is also associated with the occurrence of DR [OR = 1.49, 95%CI 1.15-1.94), P = 0.003] and can increase DR risk. Conclusion: Sleep quality and duration (including long and short sleep duration) are significantly associated with DR. To reduce DR risk, sleep intervention should be actively carried out, lifestyle changes should be made, and attention should be paid to the role of DR management.

RESUMO

The aim of this work was to develop an edible packaging material with good performance that can be used for fresh-cut vegetables preservation. The xanthan (XG)-hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)-tea polyphenols (TP) composite film (XHT) was prepared by adding TP to the composite film-forming solution of XG and HPMC. At optimum TP dosage of 6% (XHT6), the tensile strength and elongation at break were at the maximum. The antioxidant activity and antibacterial properties were also enhanced, demonstrated good inhibitory ability to Staphylococcus aureus. After 8 days, the amount of Vitamin C that was retained by XHT6 was 127.81% and 7.83% higher than unpackaged and XHT0, respectively. Additionally, the MDA content in green peppers were 39.16% and 78.87% higher than that of unpackaged and XHT0, respectively. Practical applications of XHT films in preserving fresh-cut bell peppers had also shown positive results, making it possible as potential food packaging.
