RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Unilateral laminotomy for bilateral decompression (ULBD) has been adopted widely to treat lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). The objective of the study is to investigate clinical and radiological outcomes of the biportal endoscopic ULBD (BE-ULBD) and uniportal endoscopic ULBD (UE-ULBD). METHODS: We collected retrospectively 65 patients' data who met the inclusion criteria (July 2019-June 2021). 33 patients underwent BE-ULBD surgery, and 32 patients underwent the UE-ULBD surgery, and were followed up for at least 1 year. The following preoperative and postoperative outcomes were compared between groups: the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, the Oswestry disability index (ODI) for nerve function, and modified Macnab criteria for satisfaction, the cross-sectional area of the dural sac (DSCSA), the mean angle of facetectomy. RESULTS: Age, BMI, gender, levels of involvement and duration of symptoms were not significantly different at baseline in this study. Clinical data showed that postoperative ODI, VAS scores and Modified Macnab Criteria were not statistically different between the two groups. The BE-ULBD group had a shorter operation time than the UE-ULBD group (P < 0.001). Patients in the BE-ULBD group had a larger postoperative expansion of DSCSA expansion postoperatively (85.58 ± 3.16 mm2 VS 71.43 ± 3.35 mm2, P < 0.001) and a larger contralateral facetectomy angle (63.95 ± 3.34° vs 57.80 ± 3.43°, P < 0.001) compared with patients in the UE-ULBD group. There were no statistical differences in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Both the BE-ULBD and the UE-ULBD yielded clinical improvement in terms of pain and stenosis symptoms. The BE-ULBD technique has the advantages of the shorter operation time, larger DSCSA expansion and larger contralateral facetectomy angle.

RESUMO

Purpose: The study aimed to assess the accuracy of the FY-L formula in calculating intraocular lens (IOL) power after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Methods: For the post-SMILE IOL calculation of the same eye, the IOL power targeting the pre-SMILE eyes' lowest myopic refractive error was used. The FY-L formula, the Emmetropia Verifying Optical Formula (EVO-L), the Barrett True-K no history, and the Shammas-L, respectively, were used to calculate the predicted refractive error of target IOL power. A comparison was made between the change in spherical equivalent induced by SMILE (SMILE-Dif) and the variance between IOL-Dif (IOL-Induced Refractive Error) before and after SMILE. The prediction error (PE) was defined as SMILE-Dif minus IOL-Dif. The proportion of eyes with PEs within ±0.25 D, ±0.50 D, ±0.75 D, and ±1.00 D, the numerical and absolute prediction errors (PEs and AEs), and the median absolute error (MedAE) were compared. Results: In total, 80 eyes from 42 patients who underwent SMILE were included in the study. The FY-L formula generated the sample's lowest mean PE (0.06 ± 0.76 D), MAE (0.58 ± 0.50 D), and MedAE (0.47 D), respectively. The PEs in ±0.25 D, ±0.50 D, ±0.75 D, and ±1.00 D comprised 28.8%, 46.3%, 70.0%, and 87.5%, respectively, for the FY-L formula. Compared to other formulas, the FY-L formula produced the highest value with PEs for the percentage of eyes in ±0.50 D, ±0.75 D, and ±1.00 D. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the FY-L formula provides satisfactory outcomes in estimating the IOL power in the eyes after SMILE.

RESUMO

The booming haptic data significantly improve the users' immersion during multimedia interaction. As a result, the study of a Haptic-based Interaction System has attracted the attention of the multimedia community. To construct such a system, a challenging task is the synchronization of multiple sensorial signals that is critical to the user experience. Despite audio-visual synchronization efforts, there is still a lack of a haptic-aware multimedia synchronization model. In this work, we propose a timestamp-independent synchronization for haptic-visual signal transmission. First, we exploit the sequential correlations during delivery and playback of a haptic-visual communication system. Second, we develop a key sample extraction of haptic signals based on the force feedback characteristics and a key frame extraction of visual signals based on deep-object detection. Third, we combine the key samples and frames to synchronize the corresponding haptic-visual signals. Without timestamps in the signal flow, the proposed method is still effective and more robust in complicated network conditions. Subjective evaluation also shows a significant improvement of user experience with the proposed method.

RESUMO

Video coding technology makes the required storage and transmission bandwidth of video services decrease by reducing the bitrate of the video stream. However, the compressed video signals may involve perceivable information loss, especially when the video is overcompressed. In such cases, the viewers can observe visually annoying artifacts, namely, Perceivable Encoding Artifacts (PEAs), which degrade their perceived video quality. To monitor and measure these PEAs (including blurring, blocking, ringing and color bleeding), we propose an objective video quality metric named Saliency-Aware Artifact Measurement (SAAM) without any reference information. The SAAM metric first introduces video saliency detection to extract interested regions and further splits these regions into a finite number of image patches. For each image patch, the data-driven model is utilized to evaluate intensities of PEAs. Finally, these intensities are fused into an overall metric using Support Vector Regression (SVR). In experiment section, we compared the SAAM metric with other popular video quality metrics on four publicly available databases: LIVE, CSIQ, IVP and FERIT-RTRK. The results reveal the promising quality prediction performance of the SAAM metric, which is superior to most of the popular compressed video quality evaluation models.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the effects of miR-490 on acute lung injury (ALI) induced by sepsis in vitro and in vivo were through targeting multi-drug resistance-associated protein 4 (MRP4). MiR-490 agomir/NC agomir was injected into mice before cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). Pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs) were transfected with or without miR-490 agomir/NC agomir/MRP4/empty vector before lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Histopathology, injure score, and Wet/Dry (W/D) of lung tissues were assessed. The number of neutrophils, macrophages and total cells, total protein concentration, TNF-α and IL-1ß level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were measured. The levels of caspase-3, Bcl-2, TNF-α, and IL-1ß were measured in MPVECs. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to analyze the relationship between MRP4 and miR-490. When compared to the sham group, in CLP mice, the alveolar lung tissue showed significantly hyperemic, alveolar collapse, the W/D ratio was increased, and the injury index was increased. The number of neutrophils, macrophages and total cells, total protein concentration, TNF-α and IL-1ß levels were significantly increased in BALF from CLP mice. The levels of TNF-α and IL-1ß were significantly increased in lung tissue from CLP mice. Overexpression of miR-490 alleviated lung injury caused by CLP and inhibited inflammation in mice. The levels of TNF-α, IL-1ß and caspase-3 were significantly increased, but the level of Bcl-2 was significantly decreased in MPVECs treated with LPS compared to the control group. Overexpression of miR-490 also reversed the increase of TNF-α, IL-1ß, cleaved caspase-3 and Bcl-2 caused by LPS in MPVECs. Dual-luciferase reporter assay confirmed that the target gene of miR-490 was MRP4. Besides, overexpression of MRP4 upregulated TNF-α, IL-1ß, and cleaved caspase-3, but downregulated the increase of Bcl-2 induced by miR-490 agomir transfection. These data suggested that miR-490 could relieve sepsis-induced acute lung injury in neonatal mice via targeting MRP4.

RESUMO

Forsythiae Fructus (FF) is a widely used folk medicine in China, Japan, and Korea. The distribution of bioactive constituents throughout the fruit segments has rarely been addressed, although mounting evidence suggests that plant secondary metabolites are synthesized and distributed regularly. The phytochemical profiles of three segments of FF (pericarp, stalk and seed) were firstly revealed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based quantitative analysis of twenty-one bioactive constituents, including three phenylethanoid glycosides, five lignans, eight flavonoids, and five phenolic acids to explore the spatial distribution of bioactive constituents. Furthermore, the hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) and one-way analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) were conducted to visualize and verify the distribution regularity of twenty-one analytes among three segments. The results showed that phytochemical profiles of the three segments were similar, i.e., phenylethanoid glycosides covering the most part were the predominant compounds, followed by lignans, flavonoids and phenolic acids. Nevertheless, the abundance of twenty-one bioactive constituents among three segments was different. Specifically, phenylethanoid glycosides were highly expressed in the seed; lignans were primarily enriched in the stalk; flavonoids were largely concentrated in the pericarp, while the contents of phenolic acids showed no much difference among various segments. The research improves our understanding of distribution patterns for bioactive constituents in FF, and also complements some scientific data for further exploring the quality formation mechanism of FF.

RESUMO

This paper provides a new method for predicting the diameter of electrospun nanofibers. Based on the grey system theory, the effects of polyacrylonitrile mass fraction, voltage, flow rate, and receiving distance on fiber diameter were studied. The GM(1,1) (grey model) model and DNGM(1,1) (The DNGM (1,1) model is based on the whitening differential equation using parameters to Directly estimate the approximate Non-homogeneous sequence Grey prediction Model) model were established to predict fiber diameter by a single-factor change, and the results showed high prediction accuracy. The multi-variable grey model MGM(1,n) (MGM(1,n) is a Multivariate Grey prediction Model) was used for prediction of fiber diameter when multiple factors change simultaneously. The results showed that the average modeling fitting error is 8.62%. The background value coefficients of the MGM(1,n) model were optimized, the average modeling fitting error was reduced to 1.01%, and the average prediction error was reduced to 1.33%. Combining the fractional optimization with the background-value coefficient optimization, the optimal background-value coefficient α and the order r were selected. The results showed that the average modeling fitting error is 0.85%, and the average prediction error is 0.38%. The results demonstrate that the grey system theory can effectively predict the diameter of polyacrylonitrile electrospinning fibers with high prediction accuracy. This theory can increase the control of nanofiber diameters in production.

RESUMO

The effects of prenatal nutrition on adult cognitive function have been reported for one generation. However, human evidence for multigenerational effects is lacking. We examined whether prenatal exposure to the Chinese famine of 1959-61 affects adult cognitive function in two consecutive generations. In this retrospective family cohort study, we investigated 1062 families consisting of 2124 parents and 1215 offspring. We assessed parental and offspring cognitive performance by means of a comprehensive test battery. Generalized linear regression model analysis in the parental generation showed that prenatal exposure to famine was associated with a 8.1 (95% CI 5.8 to 10.4) second increase in trail making test part A, a 7.0 (1.5 to 12.5) second increase in trail making test part B, and a 5.5 (-7.3 to -3.7) score decrease in the Stroop color-word test in adulthood, after adjustment for potential confounders. In the offspring generation, linear mixed model analysis found no significant association between parental prenatal exposure to famine and offspring cognitive function in adulthood after adjustment for potential confounders. In conclusion, prenatal exposure to severe malnutrition is negatively associated with visual- motor skill, mental flexibility, and selective attention in adulthood. However, these associations are limited to only one generation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Based on cross-sectional studies, sleep duration has been shown to have a relationship with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS); however, no prospective studies have verified a correlation between the incidence of MS and the gender difference. Herein we prospectively determined the association between MS and gender using a large sample. METHODS: A total of 4774 subjects without MS, 30-65 years of age, participated in this study. One-way ANOVA and Chi-square test were used to analyze the baseline variables. Cox regression models were performed separately in a mixed-gender population, males and females, while controlling for lifestyle and sleep-related factors. RESULTS: During an average of 4.4-year follow-up, 1506 subjects developed MS. Both short (<6 h) and long sleep durations (8-9 and ≥9 h) increased the incidence of MS and elevated the fasting blood glucose (FBG) level in the mixed-gender population (MS: HR = 1.43, 1.25, and 1.45, respectively; elevated FBG: HR = 1.61, 1.65, and 1.98, respectively) and males (MS: HR = 1.87, 1.73, and 1.96, respectively; elevated FBG: HR = 2.27, 2.28, and 3.16, respectively). The HR(8-9 and ≥9 h) for hypertriglyceridemia in males was 1.48 and 19.4, and the HR(<6, 6-7, and ≥9 h) for hypertension in females was 1.25, 1.46, and 1.72, respectively. CONCLUSION: Both short and long sleep durations were associated with a greater incidence of MS and elevated FBG in a mixed-gender population and in males, and hypertension in females. Males who sleep longer were also at a higher risk for hypertriglyceridemia.

RESUMO

Diet and nutrition have been reported to be associated with many common chronic diseases and blood-based assessment would be vital to investigate the association and mechanism, however, blood-based prospective studies are limited. The Harbin Cohort Study on Diet, Nutrition and Chronic Non-communicable Diseases was set up in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, 9,734 participants completed the baseline survey, including demographic characteristics, dietary intake, lifestyles and physical condition, and anthropometrics. A re-survey on 490 randomly selected participants was done by using the same methods which were employed in the baseline survey. For all participants, the mean age was 50 years and 36% of them were men. Approximately 99.4 % of cohort members donated blood samples. The mean total energy intake was 2671.7 kcal/day in men and 2245.9 kcal/day in women, the mean body mass index was 25.7 kg/m2 in men and 24.6 kg/m2 in women, with 18.4% being obese (≥ 28 kg/m2), 12.7% being diabetic, and 29.5% being hypertensive. A good agreement was obtained for the physical measurements between the baseline survey and re-survey. The resources from the cohort and its fasting and postprandial blood samples collected both at baseline and in each follow-up will be valuable and powerful in investigating relationship between diet, nutrition and chronic diseases and discovering novel blood biomarkers and the metabolism of these biomarkers related to chronic diseases.

RESUMO

Nutritional rickets is a worldwide public health problem; however, the current diagnostic methods retain shortcomings for accurate diagnosis of nutritional rickets. To identify urinary biomarkers associated with nutritional rickets and establish a noninvasive diagnosis method, urinary metabonomics analysis by ultra-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry and multivariate statistical analysis were employed to investigate the metabolic alterations associated with nutritional rickets in 200 children with or without nutritional rickets. The pathophysiological changes and pathogenesis of nutritional rickets were illustrated by the identified biomarkers. By urinary metabolic profiling, 31 biomarkers of nutritional rickets were identified and five candidate biomarkers for clinical diagnosis were screened and identified by quantitative analysis and receiver operating curve analysis. Urinary levels of five candidate biomarkers were measured using mass spectrometry or commercial kits. In the validation step, the combination of phosphate and sebacic acid was able to give a noninvasive and accurate diagnostic with high sensitivity (94.0%) and specificity (71.2%). Furthermore, on the basis of the pathway analysis of biomarkers, our urinary metabonomics analysis gives new insight into the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of nutritional rickets.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of a weight-loss program on improving iron status in overweight and obese school-aged children. STUDY DESIGN: The data were analyzed in overweight and obese children (7-11 years of age; 114 girls and 212 boys) with body mass index-for-age z-scores (BAZ) >1 from a weight-loss program. Schools were randomly divided into 2 groups: intervention and control. Children in the intervention group underwent a 1-year, nutrition-based comprehensive intervention weight-loss program. Anthropometric, dietary intake, and physical activity data were collected at baseline and follow-up (1 year). Iron status and inflammatory markers were assessed within a month. RESULTS: In the intervention group, BAZ decreased more than that in the control group (-0.4 ± 0.7 vs -0.1 ± 0.6, P < .0001); and iron profiles and inflammation status were improved at follow-up. In multivariable linear regression models, a greater decrease of BAZ and inflammation factors predicted a better improvement of iron status. After adjustment of ΔBAZ, ΔC-reactive protein was significantly associated with Δserum ferritin (ß: 1.89; 95% CI, 0.70-3.09; P = .002) and Δsoluble transferrin receptor (ß: 0.88; 95% CI, 0.16-0.59; P = .017); Δinterleukin-6 was significantly associated with Δserum ferritin (ß: 1.22; 95% CI, 0.64-1.79; P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS: Iron status and inflammation were improved by weight reduction. The improvement in inflammatory markers during weight reduction was independently associated with improvements of iron status.
