Purpose of current study was to determine physicochemical, triglyceride composition, and functional groups of wild adlay accessions (brown, black, yellow, grey, green, off white, and purple) to find out its scope as cereal crop. Triglycerides, minerals and functional groups were determined through Gas chromatography, spectrophotometer and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer respectively. Results revealed variation among bulk densities, specific densities, percent empty spaces, and corresponding grain counts per 10 g of sample are useful in distinguishing brown, black, yellow, grey, green, off white, and purple wild adlay accessions. Specific density and grain count per 10 g sample was significantly related. No statistical relationship exists among the pronounced physical characteristics. Brown adlay expressed the highest protein, fat, and fiber contents 15.82%, 4.76% and 2.37% respectively. Protein, fat, ash, and fiber percent contents were found comparable to cultivated adlay. Spectrophotometric analysis revealed macro elements including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and sodium in the range 0.3% - 2.2% and micro elements boron, iron, copper, zinc, and manganese in the range 1.6 mg/kg - 20.8 mg/kg. Gas chromatography showed polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) constitute the primary fraction (39% ± 7.2) of wild adlay triglycerides. Linoleic and palmitic acids were present as prominent fatty acids, 43.5% ±1.4 and 26.3% ±1.4 respectively. Infra-red frequencies distinguished functional groups in narrow band and fingerprint region of protein in association with out of plane region leading to structural differences among adlay accessions. Comparison of major distinguishing vibrational frequencies among different flours indicated black adlay containing highest functional groups appeared promising for varietal development.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Reynoutria japonica Houtt is a medicinal plant renowned for its diverse pharmacological properties, including heat-clearing, toxin-removing, blood circulation promotion, blood stasis removal, diuretic action, and pain relief. The plant is commonly utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and its major bioactive constituents consist of polydatin (PD) and resveratrol (RES). AIM OF THE STUDY: To summarize the relevant targets of PD in various oxidative stress-related diseases through the activation of Silence information regulator1 (SIRT1). Furthermore, elucidating the pharmacological effects and signaling mechanisms to establish the basis for PD's secure clinical implementation and expanded range of application. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature published before November 2023 on the structural analysis and pharmacological activities of PD was collected using online databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science. The keywords were "polydatin", "SIRT1" and "oxidative stress". The inclusion criteria were research articles published in English, including in vivo and in vitro experiments and clinical studies. Non-research articles such as reviews, meta-analyses, and letters were excluded. RESULTS: PD has been found to have significantly protective and curative effects on diseases associated with oxidative stress by regulating SIRT1-related targets including peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α), nuclear factor erythroid2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1), NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3 (NLRP3), p38/p53, as well as endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOs), among others. Strong evidence suggests that PD is an effective natural product for treating diseases related to oxidative stress. CONCLUSION: PD holds promise as an effective treatment for a wide range of diseases, with SIRT1-mediated oxidative stress as its potential pathway.

BACKGROUND: Although evidence on the association between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and human health outcomes has grown exponentially, specific health outcomes and their potential associations with PFASs have not been conclusively evaluated. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search through the databases of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to February 29, 2024, to identify systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies examining the associations between the PFASs and multiple health outcomes. The quality of included studies was evaluated using the A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) tool, and credibility of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) criteria. The protocol of this umbrella review (UR) had been registered in PROSPERO (CRD 42023480817). RESULTS: The UR identified 157 meta-analyses from 29 articles. Using the AMSTAR measurement tool, all articles were categorized as of moderate-to-high quality. Based on the GRADE assessment, significant associations between specific types of PFASs and low birth weight, tetanus vaccine response, and triglyceride levels showed high certainty of evidence. Moreover, moderate certainty of evidence with statistical significance was observed between PFASs and health outcomes including lower BMI z-score in infancy, poor sperm progressive motility, and decreased risk of preterm birth as well as preeclampsia. Fifty-two (33%) associations (e.g., PFASs and gestational hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc) presented low certainty evidence. Additionally, eighty-five (55%) associations (e.g., PFASs with infertility, lipid metabolism, etc) presented very low certainty evidence. CONCLUSION: High certainty of evidence supported that certain PFASs were associated with the incidence of low birth weight, low efficiency of the tetanus vaccine, and low triglyceride levels.

Ribosomes mediate protein synthesis, which is one of the most energy-demanding activities within the cell, and mitochondria are one of the main sources generating energy. How mitochondrial morphology and functions are adjusted to cope with ribosomal defects, which can impair protein synthesis and affect cell viability, is poorly understood. Here, we used the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces Pombe as a model organism to investigate the interplay between ribosome and mitochondria. We found that a ribosomal insult, caused by the absence of Rpl2702, activates a signaling pathway involving Sty1/MAPK and mTOR to modulate mitochondrial morphology and functions. Specifically, we demonstrated that Sty1/MAPK induces mitochondrial fragmentation in a mTOR-independent manner while both Sty1/MAPK and mTOR increases the levels of mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mROS). Moreover, we demonstrated that Sty1/MAPK acts upstream of Tor1/TORC2 and Tor1/TORC2 and is required to activate Tor2/TORC1. The enhancements of mitochondrial membrane potential and mROS function to promote proliferation of cells bearing ribosomal defects. Hence, our study reveals a previously uncharacterized Sty1/MAPK-mTOR signaling axis that regulates mitochondrial morphology and functions in response to ribosomal insults and provides new insights into the molecular and physiological adaptations of cells to impaired protein synthesis.

Background: With the rapid global spread of COVID-19, it has become evident that the virus can lead to multisystem complications, leading to a significant increase in related publications. Bibliometrics serves as a valuable tool for identifying highly cited literature and research hotspots within specific areas. Objective: The aim of this study is to identify current research hotspots and future trends in COVID-19 complications. Methods: The dataset was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering COVID-19 complications from December 8, 2019, to October 31, 2022. Various aspects, including publication general information, authors, journals, co-cited authors, co-cited references, research hotspots, and future trends, were subjected to analysis. Visual analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, The Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and Charticulator. Results: There were 4597 articles in the study. The top three countries with the most published articles are the USA (n = 1350, 29.4 %), China (n = 765, 16.6 %), and Italy (n = 623, 13.6 %). USA and China have the closest collaborative relationship. The institute with the largest number of publications is Huazhong University of Science and Technology, followed by Harvard Medical School. Nevertheless, half of the top 10 institutes belong to the USA. "Rezaei, Nima" published 13 articles and ranked first, followed by "Yaghi, Shadi" with 12 articles and "Frontera, Jennifer" with 12 articles. The journal with the largest number of publications is "Journal of Clinical Medicine". The top 3 co-cited authors are "Zhou, Fei", "Guan, Wei-Jie", "Huang, Chaolin". The top 3 co-cited references addressed COVID-19's clinical features in China and noticed that COVID-19 patients had a wide range of complications. We also list four research hotspots. Conclusions: This study conducted a bibliometric visual analysis of the literature on COVID-19 complications and summarized the current research hotspots. This study may provide valuable insights into the complications of COVID-19.

Digital microfluidics (DMF), is an emerging liquid-handling technology, that shows promising potential in various biological and biomedical applications. However, the fabrication of conventional DMF chips is usually complicated, time-consuming, and costly, which seriously limits their widespread applications, especially in the field of point-of-care testing (POCT). Although the paper- or film-based DMF devices can offer an inexpensive and convenient alternative, they still suffer from the planar addressing structure, and thus, limited electrode quantity. To address the above issues, we herein describe the development of a laser-induced graphene (LIG) based digital microfluidics chip (gDMF). It can be easily made (within 10 min, under ambient conditions, without the need of costly materials or cleanroom-based techniques) by a computer-controlled laser scribing process. Moreover, both the planar addressing DMF (pgDMF) and vertical addressing DMF (vgDMF) can be readily achieved, with the latter offering the potential of a higher electrode density. Also, both of them have an impressively low cost of below $1 ($0.85 for pgDMF, $0.59 for vgDMF). Experiments also show that both pgDMF and vgDMF have a comparable performance to conventional DMF devices, with a colorimetric assay performed on vgDMF as proof-of-concept to demonstrate their applicability. Given the simple fabrication, low cost, full function, and the ease of modifying the electrode pattern for various applications, it is reasonably expect that the proposed gDMF may offer an alternative choice as a versatile platform for POCT.

Background: Is de novo metastatic breast cancer (dnMBC) the same disease in the elderly as in younger breast cancer remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the metastatic patterns and survival outcomes in dnMBC according to age groups. Methods: We included patients from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results program. Chi-square test, multivariate logistic regression analyses, and multivariate Cox regression models were used for statistical analyses. Results: A total of 17719 patients were included. There were 3.6% (n=638), 18.6% (n=3290), 38.0% (n=6725), and 39.9% (n=7066) of patients aged <35, 35-49, 50-64, and ≥65 years, respectively. Older patients had a significantly higher risk of lung metastasis and a significantly lower risk of liver metastasis. There were 19.1%, 25.6%, 30.9%, and 35.7% of patients with lung metastasis in those aged <35, 35-49, 50-64, and ≥65 years, respectively. Moreover, the proportion of liver metastasis was 37.6%, 29.5%, 26.3%, and 19.2%, respectively. Age was the independent prognostic factor associated with breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS). Those aged 50-64 years had significantly inferior BCSS (P<0.001) and OS (P<0.001) than those aged <35 years. Patients aged ≥65 years also had significantly lower BCSS (P<0.001) and OS (P<0.001) than those aged <35 years. However, similar outcomes were found between those aged 35-49 and <35 years. Conclusion: Our study suggests that different age groups may affect the metastatic patterns among patients with dnMBC and the survival of younger patients is more favorable than those of older patients.

BACKGROUND: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs), which are the phenotypic manifestations of clinical drug toxicity in humans, are a major concern in precision clinical medicine. A comprehensive evaluation of ADRs is helpful for unbiased supervision of marketed drugs and for discovering new drugs with high success rates. OBJECTIVE: In current practice, drug safety evaluation is often oversimplified to the occurrence or nonoccurrence of ADRs. Given the limitations of current qualitative methods, there is an urgent need for a quantitative evaluation model to improve pharmacovigilance and the accurate assessment of drug safety. METHODS: In this study, we developed a mathematical model, namely the Adverse Drug Reaction Classification System (ADReCS) severity-grading model, for the quantitative characterization of ADR severity, a crucial feature for evaluating the impact of ADRs on human health. The model was constructed by mining millions of real-world historical adverse drug event reports. A new parameter called Severity_score was introduced to measure the severity of ADRs, and upper and lower score boundaries were determined for 5 severity grades. RESULTS: The ADReCS severity-grading model exhibited excellent consistency (99.22%) with the expert-grading system, the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. Hence, we graded the severity of 6277 standard ADRs for 129,407 drug-ADR pairs. Moreover, we calculated the occurrence rates of 6272 distinct ADRs for 127,763 drug-ADR pairs in large patient populations by mining real-world medication prescriptions. With the quantitative features, we demonstrated example applications in systematically elucidating ADR mechanisms and thereby discovered a list of drugs with improper dosages. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, this study represents the first comprehensive determination of both ADR severity grades and ADR frequencies. This endeavor establishes a strong foundation for future artificial intelligence applications in discovering new drugs with high efficacy and low toxicity. It also heralds a paradigm shift in clinical toxicity research, moving from qualitative description to quantitative evaluation.

OBJECTIVES: Acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by cisplatin (CDDP) is a complex, critical illness with no effective or specific treatment. The purpose of the study was to assess the protective effect of protopanaxadiol (PPD) on the kidneys in CDDP-induced AKI models and its possible mechanisms. METHODS: In vitro, the protection of PPD was assessed in HK-2. KM mice were injected with CDDP to induce AKI models in vivo. The determination of blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine (SCr) was performed, and pathological changes were examined by histopathological examination. Immunostaining and western blot analyses were used to analyze the expression levels of proteins. RESULTS: PPD can increase the viability of HK-2 cells damaged by CDDP, improve cell morphology, and alleviate the symptoms of AKI in mice. In addition, PPD can down-regulate the protein expression of TRF and up-regulate the protein expression of Ferritin heavy chain, Glutathione peroxidase 4, and ferroptosis suppressor protein 1 reduce the iron content in cells and kidney tissues, and restore the antioxidant defense system. CONCLUSION: PPD has an inhibitory effect on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, which may be related to the inhibition of ferroptosis by regulating iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation.

Molecular oxygen suffices the ATP production required for the survival of us aerobic organisms. But it is also true that oxygen acts as a source of reactive oxygen species that elicit a spectrum of damages in living organisms. To cope with such intrinsic ambiguity of biological activity oxygen exerts, aerobic mechanisms are equipped with an exquisite adaptive system, which sensitively detects partial pressure of oxygen within the body and controls appropriate oxygen supply to the tissues. Physiological responses to hypoxia are comprised of the acute and chronic phases, in the former of which the oxygen-sensing remains controversial particularly from mechanistic points of view. Recently, we have revealed that the prominently redox-sensitive cation channel TRPA1 plays key roles in oxygen-sensing mechanisms identified in the peripheral tissues and the central nervous system. In this review, we summarize recent development of researches on oxygen-sensing mechanisms including that in the carotid body, which has been recognized as the oxygen receptor organ central to acute oxygen-sensing. We also discuss how ubiquitously the TRPA1 contributes to the mechanisms underlying the acute phase of adaptation to hypoxia.

Singleton-Merten syndrome (SMS) is a rare immunogenetic disorder affecting multiple systems, characterized by dental dysplasia, aortic calcification, glaucoma, skeletal abnormalities, and psoriasis. Glaucoma, a key feature of both classical and atypical SMS, remains poorly understood in terms of its molecular mechanism caused by DDX58 mutation. This study presented a novel DDX58 variant (c.1649A>C [p.Asp550Ala]) in a family with childhood glaucoma. Functional analysis showed that DDX58 variant caused an increase in IFN-stimulated gene expression and high IFN-ß-based type-I IFN. As the trabecular meshwork (TM) is responsible for controlling intraocular pressure (IOP), we examine the effect of IFN-ß on TM cells. Our study is the first to demonstrate that IFN-ß significantly reduced TM cell viability and function by activating autophagy. In addition, anterior chamber injection of IFN-ß remarkably increased IOP level in mice, which can be attenuated by treatments with autophagy inhibitor chloroquine. To uncover the specific mechanism underlying IFN-ß-induced autophagy in TM cells, we performed microarray analysis in IFN-ß-treated and DDX58 p.Asp550Ala TM cells. It showed that RSAD2 is necessary for IFN-ß-induced autophagy. Knockdown of RSAD2 by siRNA significantly decreased autophagy flux induced by IFN-ß. Our findings suggest that DDX58 mutation leads to the overproduction of IFN-ß, which elevates IOP by modulating autophagy through RSAD2 in TM cells.

Insufficient quantity of functional T cells is a likely factor limiting clinical activity of T cell bispecific antibodies, especially in solid tumor indications. We hypothesized that XmAb24306 (efbalropendekin alfa), a lymphoproliferative interleukin (IL)-15/IL-15 receptor α (IL-15Rα) Fc-fusion protein, may potentiate the activity of T cell dependent (TDB) antibodies. Activation of human peripheral T cells by cevostamab, an anti-FcRH5/CD3 TDB, or anti-HER2/CD3 TDB resulted in upregulation of IL-2/15Rß (CD122) receptor subunit in nearly all CD8+ and majority of CD4+ T cells, suggesting that TDB treatment may sensitize T cells to the IL-15. XmAb24306 enhanced T cell bispecific antibody induced CD8+ and CD4+ T cell proliferation and expansion. In vitro combination of XmAb24306 with cevostamab or anti-HER2/CD3 TDB resulted in significant enhancement of tumor cell killing, which was reversed when T cell numbers were normalized, suggesting that T cell expansion is the main mechanism for the observed benefit. Pre-treatment of immune competent mice with a mouse-reactive surrogate of XmAb24306 (mIL-15-Fc) resulted in significant increase of T cells in blood, spleen and in tumors and converted transient anti-HER2/CD3 TDB responses to complete durable responses. In summary, our results support the hypothesis where the number of tumor infiltrating T cells is rate limiting for the activity of solid tumor targeting TDBs. Upregulation of CD122 by TDB treatment and the observed synergy with XmAb24306 and T cell bispecific antibodies supports clinical evaluation of this novel immunotherapy combination.

It is a challenging and meaningful task to carry out UAV-based livestock monitoring in high-altitude (more than 4500 m on average) and cold regions (annual average - 4 °C) on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. The purpose of artificial intelligence (AI) is to execute automated tasks and to solve practical problems in actual applications by combining the software technology with the hardware carrier to create integrated advanced devices. Only in this way, the maximum value of AI could be realized. In this paper, a real-time tracking system with dynamic target tracking ability is proposed. It is developed based on the tracking-by-detection architecture using YOLOv7 and Deep SORT algorithms for target detection and tracking, respectively. In response to the problems encountered in the tracking process of complex and dense scenes, our work (1) Uses optical flow to compensate the Kalman filter, to solve the problem of mismatch between the target bounding box predicted by the Kalman filter (KF) and the input when the target detection in the current frame is complex, thereby improving the prediction accuracy; (2) Using a low confidence trajectory filtering method to reduce false positive trajectories generated by Deep SORT, thereby mitigating the impact of unreliable detection on target tracking. (3) A visual servo controller has been designed for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to reduce the impact of rapid movement on tracking and ensure that the target is always within the field of view of the UAV camera, thereby achieving automatic tracking tasks. Finally, the system was tested using Tibetan yaks on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau as tracking targets, and the results showed that the system has real-time multi tracking ability and ideal visual servo effect in complex and dense scenes.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection inhibits swine leukocyte antigen class I (SLA-I) expression in pigs, resulting in inefficient antigen presentation and subsequent low levels of cellular PRRSV-specific immunity as well as persistent viremia. We previously observed that the non-structural protein 4 (nsp4) of PRRSV contributed to inhibition of the ß2-microglobulin (ß2M) and SLA-I expression in cells. Here, we constructed a series of nsp4 mutants with different combination of amino acid mutations to attenuate the inhibitory effect of nsp4 on ß2M and SLA-I expression. Almost all nsp4 mutants exogenously expressed in cells showed an attenuated effect on inhibition of ß2M and SLA-I expression, but the recombinant PRRSV harboring these nsp4 mutants failed to be rescued with exception of the rPRRSV-nsp4-mut10 harboring three amino acid mutations. However, infection of rPRRSV-nsp4-mut10 not only enhanced ß2M and SLA-I expression in both cells and pigs but also promoted the DCs to active the CD3+CD8+T lymphocytes more efficiently, as compared with its parental PRRSV (rPRRVS-nsp4-wt). RESUMO

Natural materials typically exhibit irregular and non-periodic architectures, endowing them with compelling functionalities such as body protection, camouflage, and mechanical stress modulation. Among these functionalities, mechanical stress modulation is crucial for homeostasis regulation and tissue remodeling. Here, we uncover the relationship between stress modulation functionality and the irregularity of bio-inspired architected materials by a generative computational framework. This framework optimizes the spatial distribution of a limited set of basic building blocks and uses these blocks to assemble irregular materials with heterogeneous, disordered microstructures. Despite being irregular and non-periodic, the assembled materials display spatially varying properties that precisely modulate stress distribution towards target values in various control regions and load cases, echoing the robust stress modulation capability of natural materials. The performance of the generated irregular architected materials is experimentally validated with 3D printed physical samples - a good agreement with target stress distribution is observed. Owing to its capability to redirect loads while keeping a proper amount of stress to stimulate bone repair, we demonstrate the potential application of the stress-programmable architected materials as support in orthopedic femur restoration.

RESUMO

An accessory cavitated uterine mass (ACUM) is a very rare obstructive genital malformation characterized by pelvic pain and severe dysmenorrhea. It is easily mistaken for other obstructive genital malformations in women, such as cystic uterine adenomyosis or cystic degeneration of uterine fibroids. This case report describes a 30-year-old patient with a huge uterine cornual mass. Successful resection was performed by surgical excision, and the lesion was diagnosed as an ACUM. Given the rarity of a giant ACUM, this report also includes a brief review of the relevant literature.

BACKGROUND: Ergothioneine (EGT) is a distinctive sulfur-containing histidine derivative, which has been recognized as a high-value antioxidant and cytoprotectant, and has a wide range of applications in food, medical, and cosmetic fields. Currently, microbial fermentation is a promising method to produce EGT as its advantages of green environmental protection, mild fermentation condition, and low production cost. However, due to the low-efficiency biosynthetic process in numerous cell factories, it is still a challenge to realize the industrial biopreparation of EGT. The non-conventional yeast Rhodotorula toruloides is considered as a potential candidate for EGT production, thanks to its safety for animals and natural ability to synthesize EGT. Nevertheless, its synthesis efficiency of EGT deserves further improvement. RESULTS: In this study, out of five target wild-type R. toruloides strains, R. toruloides 2.1389 (RT1389) was found to accumulate the highest EGT production, which could reach 79.0 mg/L at the shake flask level on the 7th day. To achieve iterative genome editing in strain RT1389, CRISPR-assisted Cre recombination (CACR) method was established. Based on it, an EGT-overproducing strain RT1389-2 was constructed by integrating an additional copy of EGT biosynthetic core genes RtEGT1 and RtEGT2 into the genome, the EGT titer of which was 1.5-fold increase over RT1389. As the supply of S-adenosylmethionine was identified as a key factor determining EGT production in strain RT1389, subsequently, a series of gene modifications including S-adenosylmethionine rebalancing were integrated into the strain RT1389-2, and the resulting mutants were rapidly screened according to their EGT production titers with a high-throughput screening method based on ergothionase. As a result, an engineered strain named as RT1389-3 was selected with a production titer of 267.4 mg/L EGT after 168 h in a 50 mL modified fermentation medium. CONCLUSIONS: This study characterized the EGT production capacity of these engineered strains, and demonstrated that CACR and high-throughput screening method allowed rapid engineering of R. toruloides mutants with improved EGT production. Furthermore, this study provided an engineered RT1389-3 strain with remarkable EGT production performance, which had potential industrial application prospects.

OBJECTIVE: As women approach perimenopause, the incidence of Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD) rises. This study aims to investigate the association between SCD and the severity of perimenopausal symptoms. SETTING: Conducted at The Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University Menopause Clinic from November 2022 to June 2023. Participants, aged 40-55 years, were classified as perimenopausal using the STRAW + 10 criteria. METHODS: SCD was assessed separately using the Chinese version of the SCD-Q9 scale and the SCD International Working Group (SCD-I) conceptual framework, while perimenopausal symptoms were evaluated with the Modified Kupperman Index (MKI). Linear relationships between MKI scores and SCD-Q9 scores were clarified using both univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses. Additionally, a multivariate Logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the association between MKI scores and SCD classification based on SCD-I criteria. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcomes were the Modified Kupperman Index scores, SCD-Q9 questionnaire scores, and the diagnosis of SCD based on SCD-I criteria. RESULTS: Among 101 participants, the average MKI score was 18.90 ± 9.74, and the average SCD-Q9 score was 4.57 ± 2.29. Both univariate and multivariate linear regressions demonstrated a positive correlation between these scores. A multivariate Logistic regression analysis, using MKI as the independent variable and SCD-I criteria classification as the dependent variable, revealed a significant positive association. CONCLUSIONS: A notable association exists between SCD and perimenopausal symptoms severity. This underscores the potential clinical importance of addressing perimenopausal symptoms to mitigate SCD risks in women. Further studies should focus on clarifying the causality between these factors.

A new method, to the best of our knowledge, based on double-slit (DS) interference is proposed to accurately estimate the shear ratio of the system, with plane wave or spherical wave incidence. Existing shear ratio calibration methods, designed primarily for lateral shearing interferometry (LSI) with plane wave incidence, are not applicable to LSIs directly testing divergent or convergent spherical waves. Equations for calculating the shear ratio using the fringe spacing of the DS interferogram and the NA of the incident spherical wave are derived in this paper. The simulation result shows that the relative error of the shear ratio value is about 0.3%, when the shear ratio is 0.1. In the experiment, the quadriwave LSI is designed with a plug-in feature. The shear ratio at integer multiples of 1/6 Talbot distance from the modified Hartmann mask was calibrated using a DS, and the results were in good agreement with theoretical values, confirming the accuracy of the method. Subsequently, with the assistance of an inductance micrometer, the shear ratio was calibrated at intervals of 0.5 mm, and the results closely matched the theoretical variation of the shear ratio caused by displacement, confirming the high precision of the method.
