RESUMO

This work presents a hydrothermal method followed by a sonochemical treatment for synthesizing tantalum decorated on iron selenide (Ta/FeSe2) integrated with nitrogen-doped graphene (NGR) as a susceptible electrode material for detecting trolox (TRX) in berries samples. The surface morphology, structural characterizations, and electrochemical performances of the synthesized Ta/FeSe2/NGR composite were analyzed via spectrophotometric and voltammetry techniques. The GCE modified with Ta/FeSe2/NGR demonstrated an impressive linear range of 0.1 to 580.3 µM for TRX detection. Additionally, it achieved a remarkable limit of detection (LOD) of 0.059 µM, and it shows a high sensitivity of 2.266 µA µÐœ-1 cm-2. Here, we used density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the structures of TRX and TRX quinone and the locations of energy levels and electron transfer sites. The developed sensor exhibits significant selectivity, satisfactory cyclic and storage stability, and notable reproducibility. Moreover, the practicality of TRX was assessed in different types of berries, yielding satisfactory recoveries.

RESUMO

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate among women. Therefore, it is necessary to develop novel therapies to effectively treat this disease. In this study, iron selenide nanorods (FeSe2 NRs) were designed for use in magnetic hyperthermic, photothermal, and chemodynamic therapy (MHT/PTT/CDT) for breast cancer. To illustrate their efficacy, FeSe2 NRs were modified with the chemotherapeutic agent methotrexate (MTX). MTX-modified FeSe2 (FeSe2-MTX) exhibited excellent controlled drug release properties. Fe2+ released from FeSe2 NRs induced the release of •OH from H2O2 via a Fenton/Fenton-like reaction, enhancing the efficacy of CDT. Under alternating magnetic field (AMF) stimulation and 808 nm laser irradiation, FeSe2-MTX exerted potent hyperthermic and photothermal effects by suppressing tumor growth in a breast cancer nude mouse model. In addition, FeSe2 NRs can be used for magnetic resonance imaging in vivo by incorporating their superparamagnetic characteristics into a single nanomaterial. Overall, we presented a novel technique for the precise delivery of functional nanosystems to tumors that can enhance the efficacy of breast cancer treatment.

RESUMO

Background: Wall shear stress (WSS) has been proved to be related to the formation, development and rupture of intracranial aneurysms. Aneurysm wall enhancement (AWE) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be caused by inflammation and have confirmed its relationship with low WSS. High WSS can also result in inflammation but the research of its correlation with AWE is lack because of the focus on large aneurysms limited by 3T MRI in most previous studies. This study aimed to assess the potential association between high or low WSS and AWE in different aneuryms. Especially the relationship between high WSS and AWE in small aneurysm. Methods: Forty-three unruptured intracranial aneurysms in 42 patients were prospectively included for analysis. 7.0 T MRI was used for imaging. Aneurysm size was measured on three-dimensional time-of-flight (TOF) images. Aneurysm-to-pituitary stalk contrast ratio (CRstalk) was calculated on post-contrast black-blood T1-weighted fast spin echo sequence images. Hemodynamics were assessed by four-dimensional flow MRI. Results: The small aneurysms group had more positive WSS-CRstalk correlation coefficient distribution (dome: 78.6 %, p = 0.009; body: 50.0 %, p = 0.025), and large group had more negative coefficient distribution (dome: 44.8 %, p = 0.001; body: 69.0 %, p = 0.002). Aneurysm size was positively correlated with the significant OSI-CRstalk correlation coefficient at the dome (p = 0.012) and body (p = 0.010) but negatively correlated with the significant WSS-CRstalk correlation coefficient at the dome (p < 0.001) and body (p = 0.017). Conclusion: AWE can be mediated by both high and low WSS, and translate from high WSS- to low WSS-mediated pathways as size increase. Additionally, AWE may serve as an indicator of the stage of aneurysm development via different correlations with hemodynamic factors.

RESUMO

In recent years, inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted increasing attention as potential theranostic agents in the field of oncology. Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a minimally invasive technique that uses nanoparticles to produce heat from light to kill cancer cells. PTT requires two essential elements: a photothermal agent (PTA) and near-infrared (NIR) radiation. The role of PTAs is to absorb NIR, which subsequently triggers hyperthermia within cancer cells. By raising the temperature in the tumor microenvironment (TME), PTT causes damage to the cancer cells. Nanoparticles (NPs) are instrumental in PTT given that they facilitate the passive and active targeting of the PTA to the TME, making them crucial for the effectiveness of the treatment. In addition, specific targeting can be achieved through their enhanced permeation and retention effect. Thus, owing to their significant advantages, such as altering the morphology and surface characteristics of nanocarriers comprised of PTA, NPs have been exploited to facilitate tumor regression significantly. This review highlights the properties of PTAs, the mechanism of PTT, and the results obtained from the improved curative efficacy of PTT by utilizing NPs platforms.

RESUMO

Combining chemodynamic therapy (CDT) with photothermal therapy (PTT) has developed as a promising approach for cancer treatment, as it enhances therapeutic efficiency through redox reactions and external laser induction. In this study, we designed metal organic framework (MOF) -derived Cu5Zn8/HPCNC through a carbonization process and decorated them with gold nanoparticles (Au@Cu5Zn8/HPCNC). The resulting nanoparticles were employed as a photothermal agent and Fenton catalyst. The Fenton reaction facilitated the conversation of Cu2+ to Cu+ through reaction with local H2O2, generating reactive hydroxyl radicals (·OH) with potent cytotoxic effects. To enhance the Fenton-like reaction and achieve combined therapy, laser irradiation of the Au@Cu5Zn8/HPCNC induced efficient photothermal therapy by generating localized heat. With a significantly increased absorption of Au@Cu5Zn8/HPCNC at 808 nm, the photothermal efficiency was determined to be 57.45 %. Additionally, Au@Cu5Zn8/HPCNC demonstrated potential as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of cancers. Furthermore, the synergistic combination of PTT and CDT significantly inhibited tumor growth. This integrated approach of PTT and CDT holds great promise for cancer therapy, offering enhanced CDT and modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME), and opening new avenues in the fight against cancer.

RESUMO

Polarization-sensitive photodetectors based on two-dimensional anisotropic materials still encounter the issues of narrow spectral coverage and low polarization sensitivity. To address these obstacles, anisotropic As0.6P0.4 with a narrow band gap has been integrated with WSe2 to construct a type-II heterostructure, realizing a high-performance polarization-sensitive photodetector with broad spectral range from 405 to 2200 nm. By operating in photovoltaic mode at zero bias, the device shows a very low dark current of ∼0.02 picoampere, high responsivity of 492 m A/W, and high photoswitching ratio of 6 × 104, yielding a high specific detectivity of 1.4 × 1012 Jones. The strong in-plane anisotropy of As0.6P0.4 endows the device with a capability of polarization-sensitive detection with a high polarization ratio of 6.85 under a bias voltage. As an image sensor and signal receiver, the device shows great potential in imaging and optical communication applications. This work develops an anisotropic vdW heterojunction to realize polarization-sensitive photodetectors with wide spectral coverage, fast response, and high sensitivity, providing a new candidate for potential applications of polarization-resolved electronics and photonics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Detecting and segmenting intracranial aneurysms (IAs) from angiographic images is a laborious task. OBJECTIVE: To evaluates a novel deep-learning algorithm, named vessel attention (VA)-Unet, for the efficient detection and segmentation of IAs. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted using head CT angiography (CTA) examinations depicting IAs from two hospitals in China between 2010 and 2021. Training included cases with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and arterial stenosis, common accompanying vascular abnormalities. Testing was performed in cohorts with reference-standard digital subtraction angiography (cohort 1), with SAH (cohort 2), acquired outside the time interval of training data (cohort 3), and an external dataset (cohort 4). The algorithm's performance was evaluated using sensitivity, recall, false positives per case (FPs/case), and Dice coefficient, with manual segmentation as the reference standard. RESULTS: The study included 3190 CTA scans with 4124 IAs. Sensitivity, recall, and FPs/case for detection of IAs were, respectively, 98.58%, 96.17%, and 2.08 in cohort 1; 95.00%, 88.8%, and 3.62 in cohort 2; 96.00%, 93.77%, and 2.60 in cohort 3; and, 96.17%, 94.05%, and 3.60 in external cohort 4. The segmentation accuracy, as measured by the Dice coefficient, was 0.78, 0.71, 0.71, and 0.66 for cohorts 1-4, respectively. VA-Unet detection recall and FPs/case and segmentation accuracy were affected by several clinical factors, including aneurysm size, bifurcation aneurysms, and the presence of arterial stenosis and SAH. CONCLUSIONS: VA-Unet accurately detected and segmented IAs in head CTA comparably to expert interpretation. The proposed algorithm has significant potential to assist radiologists in efficiently detecting and segmenting IAs from CTA images.

RESUMO

In terms of cancer-related deaths among women, breast cancer (BC) is the most common. Clinically, human epidermal growth receptor 2 (HER2) is one of the most commonly used diagnostic biomarkers for facilitating BC cell proliferation and malignant growth. In this study, a disposable gold electrode (DGE) modified with gold nanoparticle-decorated Ti3C2Tx (Au/MXene) was utilized as a sensing platform to immobilize the capturing antibody (Ab1/Au/MXene). Subsequently, nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) with a metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived copper-manganese-cobalt oxide, tagged as NG/CuMnCoOx, was used as a probe to label the detection antibody (Ab2). A sandwich-type immunosensor (NG/CuMnCoOx/Ab2/HER2-ECD /Ab1/Au/MXene/DGE) was developed to quantify HER2-ECD. NG/CuMnCoOx enhances the conductivity, electrocatalytic active sites, and surface area to immobilize Ab2. In addition, Au/MXene facilitates electron transport and captures more Ab1 on its surface. Under optimal conditions, the resultant immunosensor displayed an excellent linear range of 0.0001 to 50.0 ng. mL-1. The detection limit was 0.757 pg·mL-1 with excellent selectivity, appreciable reproducibility, and high stability. Moreover, the applicability for determining HER2-ECD in human serum samples indicates its ability to monitor tumor markers clinically.

RESUMO

Traditional cancer treatments are ineffective and cause severe adverse effects. Thus, the development of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has the potential for in situ catalysis of endogenous molecules into highly toxic species, which would then effectively destroy cancer cells. However, the shortage of high-performance nanomaterials hinders the broad clinical application of this approach. In present study, an effective therapeutic platform was developed using a simple hydrothermal method for the in-situ activation of the Fenton reaction within the tumor microenvironment (TME) to generate substantial quantities of •OH and ultimately destroy cancer cells, which could be further synergistically increased by photothermal therapy (PHT) and magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) aided by FeMoO4 nanorods (NRs). The produced FeMoO4 NRs were used as MHT/PHT and Fenton catalysts. The photothermal conversion efficiency of the FeMoO4 NRs was 31.75 %. In vitro and \ experiments demonstrated that the synergistic combination of MHT/PHT/CDT notably improved anticancer efficacy. This work reveals the significant efficacy of CDT aided by both photothermal and magnetic hyperthermia and offers a feasible strategy for the use of iron-based nanoparticles in the field of biomedical applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To compare the safety and efficacy of pipeline embolization device (PED) and Tubridge flow diverter (TFD) for unruptured posterior circulation aneurysms. METHODS: Posterior aneurysm patients treated with PED or TFD between January, 2019, and December, 2021, were retrospectively reviewed. Patients' demographics, aneurysm characteristics, treatment details, complications, and follow-up information were collected. The procedural-related complications and angiographic and clinical outcome were compared. RESULTS: A total of 107 patients were involved; PED was applied for 55 patients and TFD for 52 patients. A total of 9 (8.4%) procedural-related complications occurred, including 4 (7.3%) in PED group and 5 (9.6%) in TFD group. During a mean of 10.3-month angiographic follow-up for 81 patients, complete occlusion was achieved in 35 (85.4%) patients in PED group and 30 (75.0%) in TFD group. The occlusion rate of PED group is slightly higher than that of TFD group. A mean of 25.0-month clinical follow-up for 107 patients showed that favorable clinical outcome was achieved in 53 (96.4%) patients in PED group and 50 (96.2%) patients in TFD group, respectively. No statistical difference was found in terms of procedural-related complications (p = 0.737), occlusion rate (p = 0.241), and favorable clinical outcome (0.954) between groups. CONCLUSIONS: The current study found no difference in complication, occlusion, and clinical outcome between PED and TFD for unruptured PCAs.

RESUMO

Novel food-grade bigels were fabricated using zein nanoparticles for interfacial stabilization and non-surfactant gelators (beeswax and tapioca) for bulk stabilization. The present study demonstrated the importance of interfacial stability for biphasic gels and sheds light on the roles of the gelation mechanism and the oil/water ratio of a bigel on its microstructure, physical properties, and digestion behaviors. The results indicated that it is not an easy task to realize homogenization and subsequent gelation in beeswax-tapioca biphasic systems, as no amphiphilic components existed. However, applying the binding of zein nanoparticles at the oil-water interface allowed us to produce a homogeneous and stable bigel (oil fraction reach 40%), which exhibited enhanced structural and functional properties. Oleogel structures play a crucial role in determining the deformation response of bigel systems. As the oil content increased, the mechanical strength and elastic properties of bigels were enhanced. In the meantime, clear bigel-type transitions were observed. In addition, the fabricated bigels were shown to be beneficial for delayed digestion, and the lowest degree of lipolysis could be found in bigel with 50% oleogel.

RESUMO

A right aortic arch is present in 0.1% of the population and can occur in isolation or be associated with congenital heart disease.1 Moreover, the most common form of right aortic arch in adults is associated with an aberrant left subclavian artery.1 An aberrant left common carotid artery that originated from the ascending aorta with the right aorta is very rare. In this situation, carotid direct access was considered to avoid access challenge due to a large curve from the ascending aorta to the left common carotid artery.2 3 Here we demonstrate carotid artery direct access for intracranial stenting of a stroke patient with aberrant left common carotid artery and right aorta. Manual compression with a long time under general anesthesia to avoid post-procedural puncture site hematoma is recommended (video 1).neurintsurg;jnis-2023-020535v1/V1F1V1Video 1 Carotid artery direct access.

RESUMO

Segmentation of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is an important step for the diagnosis and treatment of IAs. However, the process by which clinicians manually recognize and localize IAs is overly labor intensive. This study aims to develop a deep-learning-based framework (defined as FSTIF-UNet) towards IAs segmentation in un-reconstructed 3D Rotational Angiography (3D-RA) images. 3D-RA sequences from 300 patients with IAs from Beijing Tiantan Hospital are enrolled. Inspired by radiologists' clincial skills, a Skip-Review attention mechanism is proposed to repeatedly fuse the long-term spatiotemporal features of several images with the most obvious IA's features (sellected by a pre-detection network). Then, a Conv-LSTM is used to fuse the short-term spatiotemporal features of the selected 15 3D-RA images from the equally-spaced viewing angles. The combination of the two modules realizes the full-scale spatiotemporal information fusion of the 3D-RA sequence. FSTIF-UNet achieves DSC, IoU, Sens, Haus, and F1-Score of 0.9109, 0.8586, 0.9314, 1.358 and 0.8883, respectively, and time taken for network segmentation is 0.89 s/case. The results show significant improvement in IA segmentation performance with FSTIF-UNet compared with baseline networks (with DSC from 0.8486 - 0.8794). The proposed FSTIF-UNet establishes a practical method to assist the radiologists in clinical diagnosis.

RESUMO

H doping can enhance the performance of ZnO thin-film transistors (TFTs) to a certain extent, and the design of double active layers is an effective way to further improve a device's performance. However, there are few studies on the combination of these two strategies. We fabricated TFTs with ZnO:H (4 nm)/ZnO (20 nm) double active layers by magnetron sputtering at room temperature, and studied the effect of the hydrogen flow ratio on the devices' performance. ZnO:H/ZnO-TFT has the best overall performance when H2/(Ar + H2) = 0.13% with a mobility of 12.10 cm2/Vs, an on/off current ratio of 2.32 × 107, a subthreshold swing of 0.67 V/Dec, and a threshold voltage of 1.68 V, which is significantly better than the performance of single active layer ZnO:H-TFTs. This exhibits that the transport mechanism of carriers in double active layer devices is more complicated. On one hand, increasing the hydrogen flow ratio can more effectively suppress the oxygen-related defect states, thus reducing the carrier scattering and increasing the carrier concentration. On the other hand, the energy band analysis shows that electrons accumulate at the interface of the ZnO layer close to the ZnO:H layer, providing an additional path for carrier transport. Our research exhibits that the combination of a simple hydrogen doping process and double active layer construction can achieve the fabrication of high-performance ZnO-based TFTs, and that the whole room temperature process also provides important reference value for the subsequent development of flexible devices.

RESUMO

Gate controllability is a key factor that determines the performance of GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs). However, at the traditional metal-GaN interface, direct chemical interaction between metal and GaN can result in fixed charges and traps, which can significantly deteriorate the gate controllability. In this study, Ti3 C2 Tx MXene films are integrated into GaN HEMTs as the gate contact, wherein van der Waals heterojunctions are formed between MXene films and GaN without direct chemical bonding. The GaN HEMTs with enhanced gate controllability exhibit an extremely low off-state current (IOFF ) of 10-7 mA mm-1 , a record high ION /IOFF current ratio of ≈1013 (which is six orders of magnitude higher than conventional Ni/Au contact), a high off-state drain breakdown voltage of 1085 V, and a near-ideal subthreshold swing of 61 mV dec-1 . This work shows the great potential of MXene films as gate electrodes in wide-bandgap semiconductor devices.

RESUMO

Conventional doping schemes of silicon (Si) microelectronics are incompatible with atomically thick two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), which makes it challenging to construct high-quality 2D homogeneous p-n junctions. Herein, we adopt a simple yet effective plasma-treated doping method to seamlessly construct a lateral 2D WSe2 p-n homojunction. WSe2 with ambipolar transport properties was exposed to O2 plasma to form WOx on the surface in a self-limiting process that induces hole doping in the underlying WSe2via electron transfer. Different electrical behaviors were observed between the as-exfoliated (ambipolar) region and the O2 plasma-treated (p-doped) region under electrostatic modulation of the back-gate bias (VBG), which produces a p-n in-plane homojunction. More importantly, a small contact resistance of 710 Ω µm with a p-doped region transistor mobility of ∼157 cm2 V-1 s-1 was achieved due to the transformation of Schottky contact into Ohmic contact after plasma treatment. This effectively avoids Fermi-level pinning and significantly improves the performance of photodetectors. The resultant WSe2 p-n junction device thus exhibits a high photoresponsivity of ∼7.1 × 104 mA W-1 and a superior external quantum efficiency of ∼228%. Also, the physical mechanism of charge transfer in the WSe2 p-n homojunction was analyzed. Our proposed strategy offers a powerful route to realize low contact resistance and high photoresponsivity in 2D TMDC-based optoelectronic devices, paving the way for next-generation atomic-thickness optoelectronics.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Flow diverters have revolutionized the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. However, the delayed complications associated with flow diverter use are unknown. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the incidence, severity, clinical outcomes, risk factors, and dynamic changes associated with in-stent stenosis (ISS) after treatment with a Pipeline embolization device (PED). METHODS: Patients who underwent PED treatment between 2015 and 2020 were enrolled. The angiographic, clinical, and follow-up data of 459 patients were independently reviewed by four neuroradiologists to identify ISS. Binary logistic regression was conducted to determine ISS risk factors, and an ISS-time curve was established to demonstrate dynamic changes in ISS after PED implantation. RESULTS: Of the 459 treated patients, 69 (15.0%) developed ISS. At follow-up, nine patients (2.0%) with ISS demonstrated reversal, while 18 (3.9%) developed parental artery occlusion. A total of 380 patients (82.8%) achieved complete aneurysm occlusion (O'Kelly-Marotta grade D). Patients with posterior-circulation aneurysm (OR=2.895, 95% CI (1.732 to 4.838; P<0.001) or balloon angioplasty (OR=1.992, 95% CI 1.162 to 3.414; P=0.037) were more likely to develop ISS. Patients aged >54 years (OR=0.464, 95% CI 0.274 to 0.785; P=0.006) or with a body mass index of >28 kg/m2 (OR=0.427, 95% CI 0.184 to 0.991; P=0.026) had a lower ISS risk. Intimal hyperplasia initiated by PED placement peaked within 1 year after the procedure, rarely progressed after 12 months, and tended to reverse within 24 months. CONCLUSIONS: ISS is a common, benign, and self-limiting complication of PED implantation in the Chinese population.

RESUMO

The wafer-scale single-crystal GaN film was transferred from a commercial bulk GaN wafer onto a Si (100) substrate by combining ion-cut and surface-activated bonding. Well-defined, uniformly thick, and large-scale wafer size ReS2 multilayers were grown on the GaN substrate. Finally, ReS2 photodetectors were fabricated on GaN and sapphire substrates, respectively, and their performances were compared. Due to the polarization effect of GaN, the ReS2/GaN photodetector showed better performance. The ReS2/GaN photodetector has a responsivity of 40.12 A/W, while ReS2/sapphire has a responsivity of 0.17 A/W. In addition, the ReS2/GaN photodetector properties have reached an excellent reasonable level, including a photoconductive gain of 447.30, noise-equivalent power of 1.80 × 10-14 W/Hz1/2, and detectivity of 1.21 × 1010 Jones. This study expands the way to enhance the performance of ReS2 photodetectors.

RESUMO

The current study reports the design and construction of enzyme-free sensor using N-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs)-decorated tin sulfide nanosheets (SnS2) for in situ monitoring of H2O2 secreted by human breast cancer cells. N-GQDs nanoparticles having a size of less than 1 nm were incorporated into SnS2 nanosheets to form an N-GQDs@SnS2 nanocomposite using a simple hydrothermal approach. The resulting hybrid material was an excellent electrocatalyst for the reduction of H2O2, owing to the combined properties of highly conductive N-GQDs and SnS2 nanosheets. The N-GQDs@SnS2-based sensing platform demonstrated substantial sensing ability, with a detection range of 0.0125-1128 µM and a limit of detection of 0.009 µM (S/N = 3). The sensing performance of N-GQDs@SnS2 was highly stable, selective, and reproducible. The practical application of the N-GQDs@SnS2 sensor was successfully demonstrated by quantifying H2O2 in lens cleaner, human urine, and saliva samples. Finally, the N-GQDs@SnS2 electrode was successfully applied for the real-time monitoring of H2O2 released from breast cancer cells and mouse fibroblasts. This study paves the way to designing efficient non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors for various biomolecule detection using a simple method.

RESUMO

We report water-induced nanometer-thin crystalline indium praseodymium oxide (In-Pr-O) thin-film transistors (TFTs) for the first time. This aqueous route enables the formation of dense ultrathin (~6 nm) In-Pr-O thin films with near-atomic smoothness (~0.2 nm). The role of Pr doping is investigated by a battery of experimental techniques. It is revealed that as the Pr doping ratio increases from 0 to 10%, the oxygen vacancy-related defects could be greatly suppressed, leading to the improvement of TFT device characteristics and durability. The optimized In-Pr-O TFT demonstrates state-of-the-art electrical performance with mobility of 17.03 ± 1.19 cm2/Vs and on/off current ratio of ~106 based on Si/SiO2 substrate. This achievement is due to the low electronegativity and standard electrode potential of Pr, the high bond strength of Pr-O, same bixbyite structure of Pr2O3 and In2O3, and In-Pr-O channel's nanometer-thin and ultrasmooth nature. Therefore, the designed In-Pr-O channel holds great promise for next-generation transistors.
