Peripheral nerve injury is a serious medical condition, but the limited availability of autologous grafts often delays timely treatment for many patients. The implantation of functional hydrogels with good biocompatibility provides an effective solution to this challenge. In this study, a novel chitosan derivative, choline functionalized catechol carboxymethyl chitosan (CF-Catechol-CMCS), was synthesized by modifying carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) with choline functionalized (CF) molecule and catechol. CF-Catechol-CMCS, sodium alginate (SA), and pyrrole monomer (Py) were then combined, crosslinked with Fe3+ and Ca2+, and polymerized in situ to form polypyrrole (PPy), resulting in the CF-Catechol-CMCS/SA/PPy hydrogel. This hydrogel exhibits excellent thermal stability, with a maximum thermal degradation temperature of 580⯰C. By adjusting the ratio of PPy to CF-Catechol-CMCS/SA in the hydrogel, its degradation properties, swelling behavior, mechanical properties, and electrical conductivity can be fine-tuned. Specifically, when the mass ratio of PPy to CF-Catechol-CMCS/SA is 8:10, the hydrogel achieves optimal conductivity within a safe range (1.82â¯×â¯10-3â¯S·cm-1). By controlling the mass ratio of CF-Catechol-CMCS to SA in the hydrogel, the acetylcholine concentration can be regulated. When the CF-Catechol-CMCS:SA ratio is 2:1, the measured Sciatic Function Index (SFI) value is -34.54, indicating that the CF-Catechol-CMCS/SA/PPy hydrogel has excellent nerve repair potential.

Objectives: Multishell diffusion scanning is limited by low spatial resolution. We sought to improve the resolution of multishell diffusion images through deep learning-based super-resolution reconstruction (SR) and subsequently develop and validate a prediction model for adult-type diffuse glioma, isocitrate dehydrogenase status and grade 2/3 tumors. Materials and methods: A simple diffusion model (DTI) and three advanced diffusion models (DKI, MAP, and NODDI) were constructed based on multishell diffusion scanning. Migration was performed with a generative adversarial network based on deep residual channel attention networks, after which images with 2x and 4x resolution improvements were generated. Radiomic features were used as inputs, and diagnostic models were subsequently constructed via multiple pipelines. Results: This prospective study included 90 instances (median age, 54.5 years; 39 men) diagnosed with adult-type diffuse glioma. Images with both 2x- and 4x-improved resolution were visually superior to the original images, and the 2x-improved images allowed better predictions than did the 4x-improved images (P<.001). A comparison of the areas under the curve among the multiple pipeline-constructed models revealed that the advanced diffusion models did not have greater diagnostic performance than the simple diffusion model (P>.05). The NODDI model constructed with 2x-improved images had the best performance in predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase status (AUC_validation=0.877; Brier score=0.132). The MAP model constructed with the original images performed best in classifying grade 2 and grade 3 tumors (AUC_validation=0.806; Brier score=0.168). Conclusion: SR improves the resolution of multishell diffusion images and has different advantages in achieving different goals and creating different target diffusion models.

The use of hydrogels to mimic natural cartilage implantation can effectively solve the current problems of insufficient cartilage donors and low rate of injury healing. In particular, injectable hydrogels are less invasive in clinical applications and better able to fill uneven injury surfaces. Here, we prepared NorCS and CS-SH by modifying chitosan with 5-norbornene-2-carboxylic acid and N-Acetyl-L-cysteine, respectively. Dual-network hydrogels were prepared by using UV-triggered thiol-ene click reaction between NorCS and CS-SH and the metal coordination between SA and Ca2+. The prepared hydrogels can be cross-linked quickly and exhibit excellent degradability, self-healing and injectable properties. At the same time, the hydrogel also showed good cytocompatibility and could significantly restore the motor function of mice. This study provides an effective strategy for preparing injectable hydrogels capable of rapid cross-linking.

OBJECTIVES: The static and dynamic correlations of postural stability to its three potential contributors, namely, proprioception, tactile sensation, and strength remain unclear among people with chronic ankle instability (CAI). This study aimed to compare static and dynamic postural stability, along with proprioception, tactile sensation, and strength between people with and without CAI and explore their correlations. METHODS: Sixty-seven participants with CAI and 67 participants without CAI were enrolled in this study. Ankle proprioception, plantar tactile sensation, and lower limb strength were measured by a proprioception test device, a set of monofilaments, and a strength testing system, respectively. Static and dynamic postural stability were measured during standing and jump landing on a force plate and indicated by the root mean square of center of pressure and time to stability. RESULTS: Compared to people without CAI, people with CAI had poorer postural stability, proprioception, tactile sensation, and strength. Both groups demonstrated correlation between proprioception and static postural stability, but only people without CAI showed correlation between proprioception and dynamic postural stability. Both groups demonstrated a correlation between tactile sensation and static postural stability, but not with dynamic stability. Both groups demonstrated a correlation between strength and both static and dynamic postural stability. CONCLUSIONS: People with CAI had deficits in static and dynamic postural stability, proprioception, tactile sensation, and strength. Among people with CAI, proprioception, tactile sensation, and strength can help maintain static postural stability; strength can help maintain dynamic postural stability, whereas proprioception may not provide sufficient information for dynamic postural stability.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a subset of cells with self-renewal ability and tumor generating potential. Accumulated evidence has revealed that CSCs were shown to contribute to tumorigenesis, metastasis, recurrence and resistance to chemoradiotherapy. Therefore, CSCs were regarded as promising therapeutic targets in cancer. This study is the first to reveal the development process, research hotspots, and trends of entire CSCs research field through bibliometric methods. All relevant publications on CSCs with more than 100 citations (notable papers) and the 100 most cited papers (top papers) during 1997 to 2023 were extracted and analyzed. Cancer research published the largest number of papers (184 papers). The USA accounted for the most publications (1326 papers). Rich, JN was the author with the most publications (56 papers) and the highest M-index (3.111). The most contributive institution was the University of Texas System (164 papers). Before 2007, research mainly focused on the definition and recognition of CSCs. Between 2007 and 2016, with the emergence of the terms such as "sonic hedgehog," "metabolism," "oxidative phosphorylation," and "epithelial mesenchymal transition," research began to shift toward exploring the mechanisms of CSCs. In 2016, the focus transitioned to the tumor microenvironment and the ecological niches. The analysis of papers published in major journals since 2021 showed that "transcription," "inhibition," and "chemoresistance" emerged as new focused issues. In general, the research focus has gradually shifted from basic biology to clinical transformation. "Tumor microenvironment" and "chemo-resistance" should be given more attention in the future.

BACKGROUND: Ankle sprains lead to an unexplained reduction of ankle eversion strength, and arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI) in peroneal muscles is considered one of the underlying causes. This study aimed to observe the presence of AMI in peroneal muscles among people with chronic ankle instability (CAI). METHODS: Sixty-three people with CAI and another sixty-three without CAI conducted maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) and superimposed burst (SIB) tests during ankle eversion, then fifteen people with CAI and fifteen without CAI were randomly invited to repeat the same tests to calculate the test-retest reliability. Electrical stimulation was applied to the peroneal muscles while the participants were performing MVIC, and the central activation ratio (CAR) was obtained by dividing MVIC torque by the sum of MVIC and SIB torques, representing the degree of AMI. RESULTS: The intra-class correlation coefficients were 0.77 (0.45-0.92) and 0.92 (0.79-0.97) for the affected and unaffected limbs among people with CAI, and 0.97 (0.91-0.99) and 0.93 (0.82-0.97) for the controlled affected and unaffected limbs among people without CAI; Significant group × limb interaction was detected in the peroneal CAR (p = 0.008). The CARs were lower among people with CAI in the affected and unaffected limbs, compared with those without CAI (affected limb = 82.54 ± 9.46%, controlled affected limb = 94.64 ± 6.37%, p < 0.001; unaffected limb = 89.21 ± 8.04%, controlled unaffected limb = 94.93 ± 6.01%, p = 0.016). The CARs in the affected limbs were lower than those in the unaffected limbs among people with CAI (p = 0.023). No differences between limbs were found for CAR in the people without CAI (p = 0.10). CONCLUSIONS: Bilateral AMI of peroneal muscles is observed among people with CAI. Their affected limbs have higher levels of AMI than the unaffected limbs.

Purpose: The correlations of postural stability with proprioception and strength may explain the recurrent sprains among individuals with functional ankle instability (FAI). This study aimed to compare anterior-posterior (AP) and medial-lateral (ML) postural stability, along with ankle proprioception and strength between individuals with and without FAI and investigated their correlations. Methods: Forty participants with FAI and another 40 without FAI were recruited. Their postural stability, represented by time to stabilization (TTS) in the AP (TTSAP) and ML (TTSML) directions, was calculated by the ground reaction force during jumping onto a force plate. Their ankle proprioception and strength during plantarflexion/dorsiflexion and inversion/eversion were measured using a proprioception device and a strength testing system, separately. Results: Individuals with FAI had longer TTSAP (p = 0.015) and TTSML (p = 0.006), larger ankle proprioception thresholds (p = 0.000-0.001), and less strength (p = 0.001-0.017) than those without FAI. Correlations between strength and TTSAP were detected among individuals with (ankle plantarflexion, r = -0.409, p = 0.009) and without FAI (ankle plantarflexion, r = -0.348, p = 0.028; ankle dorsiflexion, r = -0.473, p = 0.002). Correlations of proprioception (ankle inversion, r = 0.327, p = 0.040; ankle eversion, r = 0.354, p = 0.025) and strength (ankle eversion, r = -0.479, p = 0.002) with TTSML were detected among individuals without FAI but not among those with FAI. Conclusion: Individuals with FAI have worse postural stability and proprioception and less strength. Their proprioception and strength decreased to a point where they could not provide sufficient functional assistance to the ML postural stability. Improvements in proprioception and strength may be keys to prevent recurrent ankle sprains among individuals with FAI.

The aim of this study was to present current research trends on the synergistic use of radiotherapy and immunotherapy (IRT) for cancer treatment. On March 1, 2023, we conducted a literature search for IRT papers using the Web of Science database. We extracted information and constructed two databases - the Core Database (CD) with 864 papers and Generalized Database (GD) with 6344 papers. A bibliometric analysis was performed to provide insights into the research landscape, to identify emerging trends and highly cited papers and journals in the field of IRT. The CD contained 864 papers that were collectively cited 31,818 times. Prominent journals in this area included the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Corresponding authors from the USA contributed the most publications. In recent years, lung cancer, melanoma, stereotactic radiotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and the tumor microenvironment emerged as hot research areas. This bibliometric analysis presented quantitative insights into research concerning IRT and proposed potential avenues for further exploration. Moreover, researchers can use our findings to select appropriate journals for publication or identify prospective collaborators. In summary, this bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the historical progression and recent advancements in IRT research that may serve as inspiration for future investigations.

Research on systems that imitate the gaze function of human eyes is valuable for the development of humanoid eye intelligent perception. However, the existing systems have some limitations, including the redundancy of servo motors, a lack of camera position adjustment components, and the absence of interest-point-driven binocular cooperative motion-control strategies. In response to these challenges, a novel biomimetic binocular cooperative perception system (BBCPS) was designed and its control was realized. Inspired by the gaze mechanism of human eyes, we designed a simple and flexible biomimetic binocular cooperative perception device (BBCPD). Based on a dynamic analysis, the BBCPD was assembled according to the principle of symmetrical distribution around the center. This enhances braking performance and reduces operating energy consumption, as evidenced by the simulation results. Moreover, we crafted an initial position calibration technique that allows for the calibration and adjustment of the camera pose and servo motor zero-position, to ensure that the state of the BBCPD matches the subsequent control method. Following this, a control method for the BBCPS was developed, combining interest point detection with a motion-control strategy. Specifically, we propose a binocular interest-point extraction method based on frequency-tuned and template-matching algorithms for perceiving interest points. To move an interest point to a principal point, we present a binocular cooperative motion-control strategy. The rotation angles of servo motors were calculated based on the pixel difference between the principal point and the interest point, and PID-controlled servo motors were driven in parallel. Finally, real experiments validated the control performance of the BBCPS, demonstrating that the gaze error was less than three pixels.

A Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) based asphalt pavement crack image generation method was proposed to improve the dataset size of the road images. Five open-source road crack datasets were leveraged to construct an image dataset, which contained two labels - transverse cracks and longitudinal cracks. The constructed dataset was used to facilitate crack detection and classification research by providing a diverse collection of labeled crack images derived from multiple public sources. The network structure of fully connected, convolutional and attention mechanisms based on the Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) was used in this project. The purpose of this study was to train a generative model on selected categories of input pavement crack images and generate realistic crack images of those categories. We aim to tune the parameters of the GAN and optimize hyperparameters to improve the realism possibility of generated images. It also explored the generated images with different sizes and evaluated the performance of networks with different architectures. In particular, we analyzed the structural characteristics of conditional GAN. Results demonstrated that the Self-Attention Generative Adversarial Networks (SAGAN) model, which combines self-attention mechanisms with CGAN, can effectively address challenges related to limited crack image data and the inability to selectively generate images from specific categories. By conditioning the generator on category information, the SAGAN model was able to generate high-quality images while focusing on the target categories. Overall, the self-attention and conditional aspects of the SAGAN framework helped improve the generation of realistic pavement crack images.

Objective: To explain adult-type diffuse gliomas heterogeneity through diffusion kurtosis imaging-based habitat characteristics and develop and validate a comprehensive model for predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) status. Materials and methods: In this prospective secondary analysis, 103 participants (mean age, 52 years; range, 21-77; 54 [52%] male) pathologically diagnosed with adult-type diffuse gliomas were enrolled between June 2018 and February 2022. The Otsu method was used to generate habitat maps with mean diffusivity (MD) and mean kurtosis (MK) for a total of 4 subhabitats containing 16 habitat features. Habitat heatmaps were created based on the Pearson correlation coefficient. The Habitat imAging aNd clinicraD INtegrated prEdiction SyStem (HANDINESS) was created by combining clinical features, conventional MRI morphological features, and habitat image features. ROC, calibration curve, and decision curve analyses were used to select the optimal model after 32 pipelines for model training and validation. Results: In the restricted diffusion and high-density subhabitat, MK was highly correlated with MD (R2 = 0.999), volume (0.608) and percentage of volume (0.663), and this region had the highest MK value (P<.001). The unrestricted diffusion and low-density subhabitat had the highest MD value (P<.001). When MK was less than the Otsu threshold, there was still a difference between restricted diffusion and low-density and unrestricted diffusion and low-density subhabitats (P<.01). The HANDINESS enabled more accurate prediction of the IDH status in the training (AUC=0.951 [0.902-0.987]) and internal validation cohorts (0.938 [0.881-0.949]). AUC values for single-modality models and independent factors ranged from 0.593 to 0.916. Calibration and decision curve analyses showed that the HANDINESS demonstrated a high level of clinical applicability and predictive consistency. Conclusion: Diffusion kurtosis imaging-based habitat analysis provides additional important information on microscopic tumor spatial heterogeneity. The HANDINESS has higher diagnostic performance and robustness than single-modality models.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in diagnosing cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis in elderly patients. Additionally, the study seeks to determine the predictive value of preoperative NLR in determining the severity of the condition in this population. METHODS: This study is a retrospective cohort study, including 160 elderly patients with cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis (45 cases of simple cholecystitis, 58 cases of suppurative cholecystitis, 57 cases of gangrenous cholecystitis) and 60 cases of normal gallbladder histology. The study collected clinical data of the patients detected the preoperative CRP content, neutrophil, and lymphocyte levels through blood routine tests, and calculated the NLR value. The diagnostic value of NLR and CRP was determined by using the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (ROC), and the optimal value of preoperative NLR related to the severity of elderly patients with cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis was identified. RESULTS: This study found that for elderly patients with cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis, preoperative NLR and CRP levels can be used to distinguish the condition. The critical value for NLR was found to be 2.995 (95% CI, 0.9465-0.9853; P < 0.001) with an area under the ROC curve of 0.9659, while the critical value for CRP was 13.05 (95% CI, 0.9284-0.9830; P < 0.001) with an area under the ROC curve of 0.9557. Both NLR and CRP were found to have equivalent diagnostic abilities. Additionally, the study found that there were significant differences in neutrophil and lymphocyte levels in elderly patients with different severity levels, with NLR increasing as severity increased (P < 0.001). The study identified cut-off values for preoperative NLR that could distinguish Simple cholecystitis and Purulent cholecystitis, as well as Purulent cholecystitis and Gangrenous cholecystitis in elderly patients with cholecystolithiasis, with respective AUCs of 0.8441 (95% CI: 0.7642-0.9239; P < 0.001) and 0.7886(95% CI: 0.7050-0.8721, P < 0.001), sensitivities of 91.38% and 87.72%, and specificities of 73.33% and 63.79%. CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative NLR and CRP values can serve as indicators to detect cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis in elderly patients. Additionally, NLR has been recognized as a potential tool to differentiate the severity of cholecystolithiasis with cholecystitis in the elderly population.

Introduction: Scapular dyskinesis is commonly associated with subacromial pain syndrome (SAPS). Addressing scapular dyskinesis is widely accepted as an important component of shoulder rehabilitation. Our previous randomized controlled trial showed that Yi Jin Bang (YJB) exercises could effectively manage SAPS, but scapular motions and muscle activity during YJB exercises remain unknown. This study examined scapular kinematics synchronously with scapular muscle activation during YJB exercises. Methods: Thirty healthy participants with no shoulder complaints were enrolled in this study. Three-dimensional (3D) scapular kinematics and electromyography (EMG) activation of the upper trapezius, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior deltoid, middle deltoid, and posterior deltoid were synchronously measured during nine YJB movements. Results: During all YJB movements, the scapula was upwardly rotated and anteriorly tilted, with more upward rotation and a similar or less anterior tilt than the mean resting scapular angle. Column rotation, arm crossover, shoulder support circle, and armpit support high lift generated more internal rotation than the mean resting scapular angle, with the angles of internal rotation significantly greater than the other five movements (p < 0.001). Regarding EMG activity, all YJB movements elicited low activity (1.42%-19.19% maximal voluntary isometric contraction [MVIC]) from the upper trapezius and posterior deltoid and low to moderate activity (0.52%-29.50% MVIC) from the middle trapezius, lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior deltoid, and middle deltoid. Conclusion: YJB exercises could be useful in the middle to later phases of shoulder rehabilitation. For patients with insufficient external rotation, some YJB movements should be prescribed with caution.

Aims: Immune stress in broiler chickens is characterized by the development of persistent pro-inflammatory responses that contribute to degradation of production performance. However, the underlying mechanisms that cause growth inhibition of broilers with immune stress are not well defined. Methods: A total of 252 1-day-old Arbor Acres(AA) broilers were randomly allocated to three groups with six replicates per group and 14 broilers per replicate. The three groups comprised a saline control group, an Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (immune stress) group, and an LPS and celecoxib group corresponding to an immune stress group treated with a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Birds in LPS group and saline group were intraperitoneally injected with the same amount of LPS or saline from 14d of age for 3 consecutive days. And birds in the LPS and celecoxib group were given a single intraperitoneal injection of celecoxib 15 min prior to LPS injection at 14 d of age. Results: The feed intake and body weight gain of broilers were suppressed in response to immune stress induced by LPS which is an intrinsic component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), a key enzyme that mediates prostaglandin synthesis, was up-regulated through MAPK-NF-κB pathways in activated microglia cells in broilers exposed to LPS. Subsequently, the binding of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) to the EP4 receptor maintained the activation of microglia and promoted the secretion of cytokines interleukin-1ß and interleukin-8, and chemokines CX3CL1 and CCL4. In addition, the expression of appetite suppressor proopiomelanocortin protein was increased and the levels of growth hormone-releasing hormone were reduced in the hypothalamus. These effects resulted in decreased expression of insulin-like growth factor in the serum of stressed broilers. In contrast, inhibition of COX-2 normalized pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and promoted the expression of Neuropeptide Y and growth hormone-releasing hormone in the hypothalamus which improved the growth performance of stressed broilers. Transcriptomic analysis of the hypothalamus of stressed broilers showed that inhibition of COX-2 activity significantly down-regulated the expression of the TLR1B, IRF7, LY96, MAP3K8, CX3CL1, and CCL4 genes in the MAPK-NF-κB signaling pathway. Conclusion: This study provides new evidence that immune stress mediates growth suppression in broilers by activating the COX-2-PGE2-EP4 signaling axis. Moreover, growth inhibition is reversed by inhibiting the activity of COX-2 under stressed conditions. These observations suggest new approaches for promoting the health of broiler chickens reared in intensive conditions.

Aims: The purpose of this research was to assess the effect of chlorogenic acid (CGA) in the diet on ileac structure, barrier function, immunological state, and microbial profile of broiler chickens in a high stocking density (HD) environment. Methods: Four hundred and seventy-six male AA broiler chickens were randomly split into four groups, two with a normal stocking density (ND) of fourteen birds per m2 and two with a high stocking density of twenty-two birds per m2. Each of the treatments consisted of five replicates. One of the two ND and HD groups received the usual feed, while the other two were given at 1.5 g/kg CGA as part of their dietary regimen. Results: The ND CGA group showed a greater increase in villus height and villus height/crypt depth compared to the ND group at 35 and 42 days. The HD group experienced a greater elevation in villus height due to CGA supplementation than the HD group across days 28, 35, and 42. At day 42, the HD group saw a decline in OCLN and ZO-1 mRNA expression in the ileum, but CGA was able to restore them. The HD group experienced a greater rise in OCLN mRNA than the control HD group when supplemented with CGA. The expression of TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 in the ileum was higher in the HD group, and CGA supplementation enhanced this effect. The HD group experienced a greater rise in IL-10 mRNA expression than the control group following the administration of CGA. The HD group showed reduced alpha diversity and an increase in detrimental microbes such as Turicibacter and Shigella in the gut compared to the ND group, while the HD CGA group saw a reduction in Turicibacter, Shigella, and other harmful microbes. These findings reveal that HD stress suppressed the growth of ileac villi, decreased the expression of tight-junction genes, amplified the expression of inflammatory genes, and disturbed the gut microbiota, ultimately leading to increased intestinal permeability. Conclusion: We conclude that when chickens are given dietary CGA, the disruption of the ileac barrier and increased oxidative damage and inflammation due to HD stress are reduced, which increases ileac integrity and the presence of beneficial intestinal bacteria.

Immune stress exerts detrimental effects on growth performance and intestinal barrier function during intensive animal production with ensuing serious economic consequences. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is used widely as a feed additive to improve the growth performance and intestinal health of poultry. However, the effects of dietary CGA supplementation on amelioration of the intestinal barrier impairment caused by immune stress in broilers are unknown. This study investigated the effects of CGA on growth performance, intestinal barrier function, and the inflammatory response in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) mediated immune-stressed broilers. Three hundred and twelve 1-day-old male Arbor Acres broilers were divided randomly into 4 groups with 6 replicates of thirteen broilers. The treatments included: i) saline group: broilers injected with saline and fed with basal diet; ii) LPS group: broilers injected with LPS and fed with basal diet; iii) CGA group: broilers injected with saline and feed supplemented with CGA; and iv) LPS+CGA group: broilers injected with LPS and feed supplemented with CGA. Animals in the LPS and LPS+CGA groups were injected intraperitoneally with an LPS solution prepared with saline from 14 d of age for 7 consecutive days, whereas broilers in the other groups were injected only with saline. LPS induced a decrease in feed intake of broilers during the stress period, but CGA effectively alleviated this decrease. Moreover, CGA inhibited the reduction of villus height and improved the ratio of villus height to crypt depth in the duodenum of broilers 24 and 72 h after LPS injection. In addition, dietary CGA supplementation significantly restored the expression of cation-selective and channel-forming Claudin2 protein 2 h after LPS injection in the ileum. LPS enhanced the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) in the small intestine, but this enhancement was blocked by CGA supplementation. The expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) increased with LPS injection and CGA promoted the production of IL-10. CGA addition downregulated the expression of intestinal interleukin-6 (IL-6) of broilers under normal rearing conditions. However, CGA supplementation upregulated the expression of IL-6 of broilers 72 h after LPS injection. The data demonstrate that dietary supplementation with CGA alleviates intestinal barrier damage and intestinal inflammation induced by LPS injection during immune stress thereby improving growth performance of broilers.

Chlorogenic acids (CGA) are widely used as feed additives for their ability to improve growth performance and intestinal health in poultry. However, whether dietary CGAs could reverse the impaired intestinal condition caused by high stocking density (HD) in broiler chickens is unknown. We determined the effect of dietary CGA on growth, serum antioxidant levels, jejunum barrier function, and the microbial community in the cecum of broilers raised under normal (ND) or HD conditions. HD stress significantly decreased growth and body weight, which was restored by CGA. The HD group showed increased serum malondialdehyde, an oxidative byproduct, and decreased SOD and GSH-Px activity. CGA reduced malondialdehyde and restored antioxidant enzyme activity. HD stress also significantly decreased jejunal villus length and increased crypt depth. Compared with ND, the expression of tight-junction genes was significantly decreased in the HD group, but this decrease was reversed by CGA. HD also significantly upregulated TNF-α. Compared with ND, the cecal microbiota in the HD group showed lower alpha diversity with increases in the harmful bacteria Turicibacter and Shigella. This change was altered in the HD + CGA group, with enrichment of Blautia, Akkermansia, and other beneficial bacteria. These results demonstrated that HD stress decreased serum antioxidant capacity, inhibited the development of jejunal villi, and downregulated expression of tight-junction genes, which increased intestinal permeability during the rapid growth period (21 to 35 days). Dietary CGA enhanced antioxidant capacity, improved intestinal integrity, and enhanced beneficial gut bacteria in chickens raised under HD conditions.

âBackground: Immunotherapy for lung cancer has been a hot research area for years. This bibliometric analysis aims to present the research trends on lung cancer immunotherapy. Method: On 1 July, 2022, the authors identified 2,941 papers on lung cancer immunotherapy by the Web of Science and extracted their general information and the total number of citations. A bibliometric analysis was carried out to present the research landscape, demonstrate the research trends, and determine the most cited papers (top papers) as well as major journals on lung cancer immunotherapy. After that, recent research hotspots were analyzed based on the latest publications in major journals. Results: These 2,941 papers were cited a total of 122,467 times. "Nivolumab vs. docetaxel in advanced non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer" published in 2015 by Borghaei H et al. was the most cited paper (5,854 citations). Among the journals, New England Journal of Medicine was most influential. Corresponding authors represented China took part in most articles (904) and papers with corresponding authors from the USA were most cited (139.46 citations per paper). Since 2015, anti-PD-(L)1 has become the hottest research area. Conclusions: This bibliometric analysis comprehensively and quantitatively presents the research trends and hotspots based on thousands of publications, and further suggests future research directions. Moreover, the results can benefit researchers to select journals and find potential collaborators. This study can help researchers get a comprehensive impression of the research landscape, historical development, and recent hotspots in lung cancer immunotherapy and provide inspiration for further research.

Purpose: To compare the pre-plan and post-plan dosimetric parameter differences of 3D-printed non-coplanar templates (3D-PNCT)-assisted computed tomography (CT)-guided iodine-125 (125I) radioactive seed implantation brachytherapy (RISI) in patients with inguinal lymph node metastasis (ILNM). Material and methods: This was a retrospective study of 15 patients with ILNM carcinomas treated with 3D-PNCT-assisted CT-guided RISI between May, 2015 and April, 2018. All patients underwent prior external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) or surgery. Dosimetric parameters included D90, D100 (dose delivered to 90% and 100% of the volume, respectively), V100, V150, V200 (percentage of target volume receiving 100%, 150%, and 200% of the prescribed dose, respectively). Quality parameters included conformal index (CI), external index (EI), and homogeneity index (HI). Paired t-test and Bland-Altman analysis were applied to compared pre-plan and post-plan parameters. Results: The median gross tumor volume (GTV) in the pre-plan was 8.7 ml (range, 0.8-185.1 ml). There were statistically significant differences in V100, V150, CI, and EI (p < 0.05). Bland-Altman analysis indicated that accidental error of RISI was small. In 1 of the 15 cases, D90 and D100 exceeded the prescribed therapeutic accuracy. In 1 of the 15 cases, V150, EI, and GTV were outside the specified accuracy range (95% confidence interval). Conclusions: 3D-PNCT-assisted CT-guided RISI is a safe, accurate, and feasible choice in ILNM treatment. The procedure of RISI has significantly improved. The pre-plan can be accurately executed by 3D-PNCT-assisted CT-guided RISI.
