RESUMO

Based on the relief theory and similarity attraction theory, this study investigates the influence of leader humor on employee creativity through the mediate impact of employees' perceived workload, occupational coping self-efficacy, and employee similarity perception with a leader as a potential moderator. The data were collected through an online survey that included matched questionnaire data from 351 employees and their direct leaders in China. This study used SPSS 26 software and Mplus 7.0 software to analyze the data and found that (1) leader humor has a significant positive impact on employees' creativity; (2) employees' perceived workload and occupational coping self-efficacy mediated the positive relationship between leader humor and employee creativity; (3) similarity perception negatively moderated the influence of leader humor on perceived workload, and it also positively moderated the influence of leader humor on occupational coping self-efficacy. In addition to corroborating and expanding on previous findings regarding the relationship between leader humor and employee creativity during the COVID-19 period, the aforementioned conclusions also derive management implications for fostering employee creativity and reducing employee workload from the perspective of leader humor.

Objectives. Workplace safety problems are often catastrophic. There are both external and internal factors that influence employee safety performance. Strengthening internal factors is crucial to enhancing safety performance. Methods. Through a sense-making perspective, in the present study the impact of spiritual leadership on employees' career callings and safety performance was investigated, along with the moderating function of future work self-salience. A total of 339 paired leader-employee data were obtained. Results. Spiritual leadership significantly improved employee safety performance. Career callings served a mediating role between spiritual leadership and employee safety performance. The moderating effect of future work self-salience was significant. When future work self-salience was high, the influence of career callings on employees' safety performance was greater. Conclusion. The present results indicated that spiritual leadership sense-giving influences the development of employees' career sense and improves employees' safety performance in regard to spiritual motivation and pursuing career callings. In the present article, a theoretical and practical basis is provided for the safe development of organizations and society.

The importance of mentoring as a developmental resource in organizational settings is well documented. However, the mechanism underlying the association between formal mentoring and safety performance is not well defined. Based on the self-expansion theory, this study examines the relationship between formal mentoring and individual safety performance in the high-speed railway operation. We postulate that formal mentoring enhances individual safety performance through the sequential mediation of self-expansion and self-efficacy. We also argue that the relationship between formal mentoring and individuals' self-expansion is weaker when individuals possess high power distance orientation. Using paired data from 421 protégés and 102 mentors operating high-speed railways of China, we tested the proposed model. This study contributes to the understanding of formal mentoring by; i. establishing that formal mentoring positively relates to protégés' safety performance, ii. empirically validating the sequential mechanisms by which formal mentoring promotes positive outcomes for the organization and the employees, and iii. revealing the moderating effect of power distance orientation on the relationship between formal mentoring and self-expansion. The findings of this research provide practical implications for managers to understand the positive effects of formal mentoring and make rational use of it in safety-critical organizations.

Phyllospheric microbes play a crucial role in the biological decomposition of plant litter in wetland ecosystems. Previous studies have mainly focused on single stages of decomposition process, and to date there have been no reports on dynamic changes in the composition of phyllospheric microbes during the multiple stages of decomposition from living plant to death. Here we investigated fungal and bacterial community succession in the leaf litter of Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, a wetland plant species using sequencing of the both fungal ITS and bacterial 16S genes. Our results revealed that, over the whole period of decomposition, the fungal communities underwent more distinct succession than did the bacterial communities. Proteobacteria dominated throughout the entire period, while, across different decomposition stages, the Ascomycete fungi were gradually replaced by the Ciliophora and Rozellomycota as the dominant fungi. Network analysis revealed higher degrees of species segregation and shorter average path lengths between species of fungi compared with species of bacteria. This suggests that fungal communities may harbor more niches and functional diversity and are potentially more susceptible to external interference than are bacterial communities. During decomposition, the contents of leaf cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in the litter were significantly (p < 0.01) correlated with the fungal communities, and abiotic factors accounted for 89.8% of the total variation in the fungal communities. In contract, abiotic factors only explained 6.10% of the total variation in bacterial communities, suggesting external environments as drivers of fungal community succession. Overall, we provide evidence that the complex litter decay in wetlands is the result of a dynamic cross-kingdom succession, and this process is accompanied by distinct phyllospheric fungal community dynamics.
