RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) is known to have a pivotal role in the progression of various solid tumors, among which prostate cancer stands out. However, the extent of PTHrP expression and its clinical implications in prostate cancer patients remain shrouded in obscurity. The primary objective of this research endeavor was to shed light on the relevance of PTHrP in the context of prostate cancer patients and to uncover the potential underlying mechanisms. METHODS: The expression of PTHrP, E-cadherin, and vimentin in tumor tissues of 88 prostate cancer patients was evaluated by immunohistochemical technique. Subsequently, the associations between PTHrP and clinicopathological parameters and prognosis of patients with prostate cancer were analyzed. RESULTS: Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the expression rates of PTHrP, E-cadherin, and vimentin in prostate cancer tissues were 95.5%, 88.6%, and 84.1%, respectively. Patients with a high level of PTHrP had a decreased expression of E-cadherin (P = .013) and an increased expression of vimentin (P = .010) compared with patients with a low level of PTHrP. Besides, the high expression of PTHrP was significantly correlated with a higher level of initial prostate-specific antigen (P = .026), positive lymph node metastasis (P = .010), osseous metastasis (P = .004), and Gleason score (P = .026). Moreover, patients with a high level of PTHrP had shorter progression-free survival (P = .002) than patients with a low level of PTHrP. CONCLUSION: The present study indicates that PTHrP is associated with risk factors of poor outcomes in prostate cancer, while epithelial-mesenchymal transition may be involved in this process.

RESUMO

Bumblebees play an important ecological economic role as pollinators in nature and agriculture. For reasons of biosecurity, many countries promote the cultivation of native bumblebee species for crop pollination instead of importing "alien" species. In South China, a few bumblebee species are considered useful in this way, particularly, Bombus atripes, Bombus bicoloratus and Bombus breviceps. However, whether they are suitable for artificial rearing and forming healthy colonies for pollination, remains unknown. In this project, queens from the 3 native species of Guizhou Province were collected and colonies were started under standardized conditions. The colonies were scored based on 19 parameters, including the stage of colony development, number and weight of offspring, and diet consumed. The data revealed that B. breviceps had the best performance, produced more workers and consumed the smallest diet. Next, we performed 16S rDNA sequencing of the bacterial communities found in the guts of offspring workers, and then a correlation analysis between colony performance and gut bacteria was conducted. Here, B. breviceps showed the highest diversity in gut bacterial composition, dominated by the bacteria Gilliamella, Snodgrassella, Enterobacter, and Lactobacillus Firm5. The higher the abundance of Snodgrassella, the better the performance of the colony in the foundation stage, and later Lactobacillus Firm5, Apibacter and Bifidobacterium were beneficial during the stages of rapid growth and colony decline. Although we do not understand all of the interactions yet, these correlations explain why B. breviceps demonstrated better colony performance. Our data provide valuable information for breeding local Bombus species and will contribute to developing strong colonies for crop pollination.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease (AD), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, is the most common cause of dementia in elderly people and substantially affects patient quality of life. Oxidative stress is considered a key factor in the development of AD. Nrf2 plays a vital role in maintaining redox homeostasis and regulating neuroinflammatory responses in AD. Previous studies show that potassium 2-(1-hydroxypentyl)-benzoate (PHPB) exerts neuroprotective effects against cognitive impairment in a variety of dementia animal models such as APP/PS1 transgenic mice. In this study we investigated whether PHPB ameriorated the progression of AD by reducing oxidative stress (OS) damage. Both 5- and 13-month-old APP/PS1 mice were administered PHPB (100 mg·kg-1·d-1, i.g.) for 10 weeks. After the cognition assessment, the mice were euthanized, and the left hemisphere of the brain was harvested for analyses. We showed that 5-month-old APP/PS1 mice already exhibited impaired performance in the step-down test, and knockdown of Nrf2 gene only slightly increased the impairment, while knockdown of Nrf2 gene in 13-month-old APP/PS1 mice resulted in greatly worse performance. PHPB administration significantly ameliorated the cognition impairments and enhanced antioxidative capacity in APP/PS1 mice. In addition, PHPB administration significantly increased the p-AKT/AKT and p-GSK3ß/GSK3ß ratios and the expression levels of Nrf2, HO-1 and NQO-1 in APP/PS1 mice, but these changes were abolished by knockdown of Nrf2 gene. In SK-N-SH APPwt cells and primary mouse neurons, PHPB (10 µM) significantly increased the p-AKT/AKT and p-GSK3ß/GSK3ß ratios and the level of Nrf2, which were blocked by knockdown of Nrf2 gene. In summary, this study demonstrates that PHPB exerts a protective effect via the Akt/GSK3ß/Nrf2 pathway and it might be a promising neuroprotective agent for the treatment of AD.

RESUMO

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare, severe, rapidly progressing disease with a high mortality rate. We report a case of a 72-year female with erythematous pemphigus who developed erythema, swelling and ulceration on right vulva, groin, and thigh. The early clinical manifestations of the patient were nonspecific and easily misdiagnosed as cellulitis. However, upon the occurrence of ulceration and necrosis, deep fungal infection, pyoderma gangrenosum or lymphoproliferative disorders were considered. The pathology suggested IgG4-related diseases, plasmacytoma et al. But at last, surgical exploration and postoperative pathology confirmed the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis. The patient recovered after multiple aggressive surgical debridement procedures and antibiotic therapy and the patient has been followed up for 2 years without recurrence. Clinicians should be vigilant about the possibility of necrotizing fasciitis in patients with erythema, pain, rapid ulceration of skin and soft tissue, particularly in immunocompromised individuals with long-term use of immunosuppressive agents. It is crucial for saving life by early multi-disciplinary consultation, prompt diagnosis, and aggressive treatment.

RESUMO

The treatment strategy for nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has always been a hot topic of concern, and its treatment strategies are also emerging. This experiment wants to know the effects of apolipoprotein C1 (APOC1) in immunotherapy of NSCLC. APOC1 mRNA and protein expression were upregulated in lung cancer tissue of patients with NSCLC. programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) mRNA expression was negatively correlated with PD-1 mRNA expression in patients. The survival rate of APOC1 high expression was lower than that of low expression in patients with NSCLC. APOC1 gene reduced the transformation of M2 into M1 macrophages (TMMM). APOC1 gene promoted cell growth, and the gene reduced ferroptosis of NSCLC. APOC1-induced nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1 (NRF2/HO-1) signaling pathway. Sh-APOC1 gene reduced cell growth in mice of NSCLC through the inhibition of NRF2/HO-1 signaling pathway. The inhibition of NRF2 reduced the TMMM by APOC1. The activation of NRF2 reduced the TMMM by si-APOC1. In conclusion, APOC1 reduced anti-PD-1 immunotherapy of NSCLC via the TMMM by ferroptosis by NRF2/HO-1, suggesting that targeting this mechanism of APOC1 may be a feasible strategy for anti-PD-1 immunotherapy for NSCLC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The main purpose of this study was to explore the diagnostic performance of the Ca∗Cl/P ratio for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), especially normocalcaemic PHPT (NPHPT), to assist health care providers in making reliable and rapid clinical identifications. METHODS: From January 1, 2013, to March 31, 2023, 230 PHPT patients, including 65 with NPHPT and 230 sex- and age-matched controls, were enrolled in this retrospective study. Differences between hypercalcaemic PHPT (HPHPT) and NPHPT and between them and their respective controls were analyzed. The diagnostic accuracy of the Ca∗Cl/P ratio, Ca/P ratio, Cl/P ratio and albumin-corrected calcium was assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. RESULTS: Compared with corresponding controls, NPHPT and HPHPT patients both had significantly higher Ca ∗ Cl/P ratios (271.64 ± 51.74 vs 192.71 ± 26; 419.91 ± 139.11 vs 199.14 ± 36.75, P < .001). In the overall cohort, the ROC-AUC of the Ca∗Cl/P ratio (0.964, 95% CI = 0.943-0.979) for diagnosis of PHPT patients was superior to albumin-corrected calcium (0.959, 95% CI = 0.934-0.973), the Ca/P ratio (0.956, 95% CI = 0.934-0.973), and the Cl/P ratio (0.923, 95% CI = 0.895-0.946). A Ca ∗ Cl/P ratio above 239.17 mmol/L, with sensitivity (0.952), specificity (0.922), PPV (0.924), NPV (0.951) and accuracy (0.937), can distinguish PHPT patients from healthy individuals. Furthermore, the Ca ∗ Cl/P ratio yielded a sensitivity of 0.831, specificity of 0.938, PPV of 0.931, NPV of 0.847 and accuracy of 0.885 for NPHPT. CONCLUSION: The Ca∗Cl/P ratio provides excellent diagnostic power for diagnosis of PHPT, especially NPHPT.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a well-known complex multicomponent disease characterized by systemic inflammation that frequently coexists with other conditions. We investigated the relationship between some inflammatory markers and complications in COPD patients to explore the possible roles of inflammation in these comorbidities. METHODS: This study used cross-sectional and case-control methods. We included 336 hospitalized COPD patients, 64 healthy controls, and 42 major depression patients and evaluated all participants using the Hamilton Rating Scale. C-reactive protein (CRP), red blood cell distribution width (RDW), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were collected and measured in the study population. Statistical methods were used to analyze the association of inflammatory markers with COPD comorbidities. RESULTS: Cor pulmonale and psychological comorbidities (depression and anxiety) were more common in this study on COPD patients. We found that MLR (OR = 2.054, 95 % CI 1.129-3.735, p = 0.018) and RDW (OR = 1.367, 95 % CI 1.178-1.586, p = 0.000) were related to COPD patients complicated with cor pulmonale, while IL-6 (OR = 1.026, 95 % CI 1.001-1.053, p = 0.045) and RDW (OR = 1.280, 95 % CI 1.055-1.552, p = 0.012) were related to depression symptoms. CONCLUSION: MLR, RDW and IL-6 were closely related to cor pulmonale and depression in COPD patients. IL-1 ß and IL-6 are closely related to depression in humans.

RESUMO

To explore the effects of single or combined application of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers on rice bioavailability of Cd in soils, pot experiments with reddish clayey soil (developed from quaternary red clay parent materials) under three exogenous Cd levels (0, 0.5, and 2.0 mg·kg-1) were conducted. Meanwhile, chlorine-based fertilizers (KCl, NH4Cl) and sulfur-based fertilizers[K2SO4, (NH4)2SO4] were added in different proportions. The soil pH, Cd morphology, and Cd accumulation in rice at different growth stages were analyzed. The results revealed that both chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers could acidify the soil; however, the effect of chlorine-based fertilizers was more significant. During the filling stage of rice, the soil pH value of the treatment of applying single chlorine-based fertilizer decreased by 0.28 on average compared with that of applying single sulfur-based fertilizer. At the maturity stage of rice, chlorine-based fertilizer could activate the residual Cd, whereas sulfur-based fertilizer passivated the acid-extracted Cd to its residual state. Compared with the single application of the same fertilizer, the combined application of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers was more likely to promote the accumulation of Cd in rice plants. The highest Cd accumulation of brown rice was 0.21 mg·kg-1 (2.0 mg·kg-1 exogenous Cd level) in the 1:1 (mole ratios of Cl:S) treatment of chlorine-and sulfur-based fertilizers, which was 16.4% higher than that of single chlorine-based fertilizer and 113.3% higher than that of single sulfur-based fertilizer. Therefore, the combined application of chlorine-fertilizers and sulfur-based fertilizers will increase the concentration of Cd in brown rice. To ensure food quality and safety, it is more advisable to apply single sulfur-based fertilizer for rice planting.

RESUMO

Microplastics are widely distributed in the soil environment, threatening the soil ecological environment system and changing soil physicochemical properties and microbial characteristics. Biochar is often used as a soil amendment to improve soil quality due to its special pore structure and good soil nutrient retention ability. However, the understanding of the effects and mechanisms of biochar application on the physicochemical properties and bacterial communities of microplastic-contaminated soils is still very limited. Therefore, a 21-day micro-soil culture experiment was conducted to analyze the effects of biochar application on physicochemical properties and bacterial community changes in soil contaminated with different concentrations of microplastics using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology. The results revealed that the application of biochar slowed down the decrease in nitrate nitrogen and Olsen-P contents in microplastic-contaminated soil and increased the total phosphorus content. Biochar addition increased the relative abundance of tolerant phylum such as Acidobacteriota, Actinobacteriota, and Bacteroidota in microplastic-contaminated calcareous soil. Proteobacteria, Acidobacteriota, and Actinobacteriota were the dominant bacteria of the soil bacterial community in each treatment on day 7 and day 21. Compared with that on day 7, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria and Firmicutes significantly decreased, and the relative abundance of Acidobacteriota, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, Chloroflexi, and Myxococcota increased on day 21. Biochar application also increased the relative abundance of Lysobacter in microplastic-contaminated soils. This study demonstrated that the application of biochar increased microplastic-resistant bacteria, enhanced the stability of microplastic-contaminated soil, and slowed down the pollution of microplastics to the soil. Moreover, biochar had great potential to improve the quality of microplastic-contaminated calcareous soil.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder that affects multiple organs and systems, including the nervous system, integumentary system, and connective tissues. Spontaneous hemothorax occurs infrequently in patients with NF1 and is associated with high fatality rates. However, it is commonly overlooked or misdiagnosed. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 29-year-old woman with NF1 who complained of chest pain and was detected with hemothorax on radiographic examination. No bleeding sites were identified following thrombectomy. The patient's condition deteriorated with conservative treatment over nine days, posing a potentially life-threatening risk. After a diagnostic evaluation using computerized tomography angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of the neck vasculature, the patient was diagnosed with spontaneous rupture of the vertebral artery (VA) and subclavian artery (SuA) aneurysm. Following a multidisciplinary discussion and extensive investigations, the patient underwent successful endovascular treatment. A VIABAHN covered stent was implanted in the left SuA to overlay the emergent orifice. The endovascular treatment challenge due to the inaccessible of the proximal of left VA. To prevent retrograde flow into the VA aneurysm, the coils were used to embolize the left VA via the right vertebral artery-basilar artery (VA-BA) passage. The patient was alive at the 5-year follow-up without further complications. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: The CTA examination led to the diagnosis of vascular rupture due to NF1, and endovascular treatment was performed to occlude the vascular lumen. There have been no recurrences during the five-year follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Vasculopathy is the second leading cause of death in patients with NF1 after malignancy. Early diagnosis of spontaneous hemothorax in patients with NF1 is crucial, as misdiagnosis can result in missed treatment opportunities. CTA plays a vital role in preliminarily diagnosing the cause of spontaneous hemothorax, while endovascular treatment offers a new therapeutic option for such patients.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: To understand the risk factors of asthma, we combined genome-wide association study (GWAS) risk loci and clinical data in predicting asthma using machine-learning approaches. METHODS: A case-control study with 123 asthmatics and 100 controls was conducted in the Zhuang population in Guangxi. GWAS risk loci were detected using polymerase chain reaction, and clinical data were collected. Machine-learning approaches were used to identify the major factors that contribute to asthma. RESULTS: A total of 14 GWAS risk loci with clinical data were analyzed on the basis of 10 times the 10-fold cross-validation for all machine-learning models. Using GWAS risk loci or clinical data, the best performances exhibited area under the curve (AUC) values of 64.3% and 71.4%, respectively. Combining GWAS risk loci and clinical data, the XGBoost established the best model with an AUC of 79.7%, indicating that the combination of genetics and clinical data can enable improved performance. We then sorted the importance of features and found the top six risk factors for predicting asthma to be rs3117098, rs7775228, family history, rs2305480, rs4833095, and body mass index. CONCLUSION: Asthma-prediction models based on GWAS risk loci and clinical data can accurately predict asthma, and thus provide insights into the disease pathogenesis.

RESUMO

The effect of Tujia medicine Berberidis Radix on endogenous metabolites in the serum and feces of mice with ulcerative colitis(UC) induced by dextran sulfate sodium(DSS) was analyzed by metabolomics technology to explore the metabolic pathway and underlying mechanism of Berberidis Radix in the intervention of UC. The UC model was induced in mice by DSS. Body weight, disease activity index(DAI), and colon length were recorded. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-10(IL-10) in colon tissues were determined by ELISA. The levels of endogenous metabolites in the serum and feces were detected by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). Principal component analysis(PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) were employed to characterize and screen differential metabolites. The potential metabolic pathways were analyzed by MetaboAnalyst 5.0. The results showed that Berberidis Radix could significantly improve the symptoms of UC mice and increase the level of the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10. A total of 56 and 43 differential metabolites were identified in the serum and feces, respectively, belonging to lipids, amino acids, fatty acids, etc. After the intervention by Berberidis Radix, the metabolic disorder gradually recovered. The involved metabolic pathways included biosynthesis of phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan, linoleic acid metabolism, phenylalanine metabolism, and glycerophospholipid metabolism. Berberidis Radix can alleviate the symptoms of mice with DSS-induced UC, and the mechanism may be closely related to the re-gulation of lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and energy metabolism.

RESUMO

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a key regeneration pathway in various biotechnology approaches to crop improvement, especially for economically important perennial woody crops like citrus. However, maintenance of SE capability has long been a challenge and becomes a bottleneck in biotechnology-facilitated plant improvement. In the embryogenic callus (EC) of citrus, we identified 2 csi-miR171c-targeted SCARECROW-LIKE genes CsSCL2 and CsSCL3 (CsSCL2/3), which exert positive feedback regulation on csi-miR171c expression. Suppression of CsSCL2 expression by RNA interference (RNAi) enhanced SE in citrus callus. A thioredoxin superfamily protein CsClot was identified as an interactive protein of CsSCL2/3. Overexpression of CsClot disturbed reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis in EC and enhanced SE. Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-Seq) and RNA-Seq identified 660 genes directly suppressed by CsSCL2 that were enriched in biological processes including development-related processes, auxin signaling pathway, and cell wall organization. CsSCL2/3 bound to the promoters of regeneration-related genes, such as WUSCHEL-RELATED HOMEOBOX 2 (CsWOX2), CsWOX13, and Lateral Organ Boundaries Domain 40 (LBD40), and repressed their expression. Overall, CsSCL2/3 modulate ROS homeostasis through the interactive protein CsClot and directly suppress the expression of regeneration-related genes, thus regulating SE in citrus. We uncovered a regulatory pathway of miR171c-targeted CsSCL2/3 in SE, which shed light on the mechanism of SE and regeneration capability maintenance in citrus.

RESUMO

Bumblebees, as pollinators, play an important role in maintaining natural and agricultural ecosystems. Antennae with sensilla of bumblebees as social insects have essential effects in foraging, nest searching, courting, and mating, and are different in species and sexes. Previous studies on the morphology of antennae and sensilla in bumblebees have been limited to a few species and a single caste. To better understand how bumblebees detect and receive the chemical signal from nectariferous plants and foraging behavior, the morphology of antennae with sensilla, including the antennal length, and type, distribution, and number of antennal sensilla in four species, Bombus atripes, Bombus breviceps, Bombus flavescens, and Bombus terrestris was compared by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) herein. The total antennal length of queens are the longest and workers are the shortest in three castes, and in four species the longest of the total antennal length among three castes all are in B. flavescens, which is significantly longer than other species (p < 0.05) and the length of the scape in queens and workers are both longer than males, significantly different in queens (p < 0.05), and not significantly different in workers (p > 0.05), and the length of flagellums in females are not always shorter than males, of which the length of flagellms in queens of B. flavescens are significantly longer than males (p < 0.05), and the length of pedicel and all flagellomeres varies among species and castes. A total of 13 major types of sensilla in total were observed, including trichodea sensilla (TS A-E), placodea sensilla (PS A-B), basiconica sensilla (BaS), coeloconica sensilla (COS A-B), chaetic sensilla (CS A-B), and Böhm sensilla (BS), of which chaetic sensilla B (CS B), only observed in females of B. atripes, was firstly reported in Apidae. Moreover, the number of all sensilla was the most in males, the least was in workers, the number of sensilla varies within castes and species. Furthermore, the morphological characteristics of antennae and the potential functions of sensilla are discussed.

RESUMO

Solvent deasphalting (SDA) is a complex multiscale continuous process. The operation mode of the SDA process is not considered in the related data-driven model. Therefore, this paper proposes a time lag process prediction model with multiple operation modes to solve the above problem. First, based on random forests, the relative importance of initial input variables in the SDA process on DAO yield and Conradson carbon residual are studied and features are selected according to the results. Then, the stack denoising autoencoder (SDAE) is used to reconstruct the data and obtain the nonlinear mapping information of hidden layers of SDAE and achieve feature dimension reduction. SDAE can improve clustering accuracy of fuzzy c-means, and the operation mode of SDA process is accurately divided. Long short-term memory (LSTM) is used to establish a multicondition LSTM model. Compared with the traditional LSTM model, the multicondition LSTM model has a higher prediction accuracy with R 2 > 0.95. The sensitivity analyses of the properties of feed and operating conditions on DAO yield are consistent with the principle of two-phase countercurrent extraction in the SDA process. In addition, the benchmark test of the Tennessee Eastman process shows that the proposed method is also effective in the fault detection of other processes. Because the multicondition LSTM can predict the future process measurement data according to operating mode, it can better avoid the false alarm problem and predict the fault earlier.

RESUMO

Pollen is an important source of nutrition for bumblebees to survive, reproduce, and raise their offspring. To explore the nutritional requirements for the egg laying and hatching of queenright Bombus breviceps colonies, camellia pollen, oilseed rape pollen, apricot pollen, and mixtures of two or three types of pollen in equal proportions were used to feed the queens in this study. The results showed that the camellia pollen with a higher essential amino acid content was superior to the pollen with a lower essential amino acid content in the initial egg-laying time (p < 0.05), egg number (p < 0.05), larval ejection (p < 0.01), time of first worker emergence (p < 0.05), and the average weight of workers in the first batch (p < 0.01). It took less time for colonies under the camellia pollen and camellia-oilseed rape-apricot pollen mix treatments, both with a higher crude protein content, to reach ten workers in the colony (p < 0.01). On the contrary, the queens fed apricot pollen never laid an egg, and larvae fed oilseed rape pollen were all ejected-both pollens with a lower essential amino acid content. The results emphasize that the diet should be rationally allocated to meet the nutritional needs of local bumblebees at various stages when guiding them to lay eggs, hatch, and develop a colony.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study was designed to investigate the association between fibulin-1(FBLN1) and thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). METHOD: The plasma FBLN1 levels were measured in 80 participants, including 30 active TAO patients, 25 inactive TAO patients, and 25 Graves disease (GD) patients without TAO using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: TAO patients had significantly higher TRAb level than GD patients (p < 0.05). The active TAO patients consumed more tobacco and had higher CAS than inactive TAO patients (all p < 0.05). No significant differences were found in age, sex, and the level of FT3, FT4, and TSH between TAO and GD patients, and between the active and inactive TAO patients (all p > 0.05). The plasma FBLN1 level in TAO patients was higher than that in GD patients, and that in active patients was higher than that in inactive patients (all p < 0.05). Furthermore, the plasma FBLN1 level showed strong association with clinical activity score (CAS) of TAO (r = 0.67, p < 0.01). By receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, FBLN1 demonstrated good efficiency for predicting disease activity at the cut-off value > 625.33 pg/ml with a sensitivity of 93.3% and a specificity of 88.0% (AUC:0.92, p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The plasma FBLN1 levels correlated with TAO activity and a value >625.33 pg/ml was associated with active disease. Our results suggest that the plasma FBLN1 level could be a novel biomarker for predicting disease activity of TAO.
