RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the incidence rate, clinical characteristics, and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen, China. METHODS: Led by Shenzhen Children's Hospital, the Shenzhen Neonatal Data Collaboration Network organized 21 institutions to collect 36 cases of neonatal stroke from January 2020 to December 2022. The incidence, clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen were analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence rate of neonatal stroke in 21 hospitals from 2020 to 2022 was 1/15 137, 1/6 060, and 1/7 704, respectively. Ischemic stroke accounted for 75% (27/36); boys accounted for 64% (23/36). Among the 36 neonates, 31 (86%) had disease onset within 3 days after birth, and 19 (53%) had convulsion as the initial presentation. Cerebral MRI showed that 22 neonates (61%) had left cerebral infarction and 13 (36%) had basal ganglia infarction. Magnetic resonance angiography was performed for 12 neonates, among whom 9 (75%) had involvement of the middle cerebral artery. Electroencephalography was performed for 29 neonates, with sharp waves in 21 neonates (72%) and seizures in 10 neonates (34%). Symptomatic/supportive treatment varied across different hospitals. Neonatal Behavioral Neurological Assessment was performed for 12 neonates (33%, 12/36), with a mean score of (32±4) points. The prognosis of 27 neonates was followed up to around 12 months of age, with 44% (12/27) of the neonates having a good prognosis. CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke is the main type of neonatal stroke, often with convulsions as the initial presentation, involvement of the middle cerebral artery, sharp waves on electroencephalography, and a relatively low neurodevelopment score. Symptomatic/supportive treatment is the main treatment method, and some neonates tend to have a poor prognosis.

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) presents a substantial challenge to women's physiological and psychological well-being. Hormone replacement therapy, as the preferred therapeutic approach, involves solely exogenous supplementation of estrogen. Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese external treatment, has been investigated in our previous studies. It not only improves hormone levels and clinical symptoms in POI patients but also safeguards ovarian reserve. This study aims to explore the regulatory mechanisms by which moxibustion modulates hormone levels and restores ovarian function in POI. A POI rat model was established using cyclophosphamide, and moxibustion treatment was applied at acupoints "CV4" and "SP6" for a total of four courses. Subsequently, ovaries from each group were subjected to transcriptome sequencing (Bulk RNA-seq). Target pathways and key genes were selected through enrichment analysis and GSVA scoring, with validation using various techniques including electron microscopy, ELISA, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. The results demonstrated that moxibustion restored the estrous cycle in POI rats, improved sex hormone levels, reduced the number of atretic follicles, and increased the count of dominant follicles (P<0.05). Bulk RNA-seq analysis revealed that moxibustion downregulated pathways associated with ovarian dysfunction, infertility, and immune responses, upregulated pathways related to follicular development and ovarian steroidogenesis. Furthermore, our data confirmed that moxibustion significantly increased the number of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) and upregulated the expression of proteins related to steroidogenesis in GCs, including FSHR, P450 arom, cAMP, PKA, and CREB (P<0.05), with no significant effect observed on proteins related to steroidogenesis in theca cells. These outcomes aligned with the RNA-seq results. In conclusion, these findings propose that moxibustion enhances steroidogenesis in GCs through the activation of the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway, consequently improving impaired ovarian function in POI rats. This study provides robust evidence supporting moxibustion as a targeted intervention for treating POI by specifically regulating steroidogenesis in GCs.

BACKGROUND: Patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) cannot be assessed for their mental health using a suitable and practical measure. The purpose of the study is to investigate the usefulness of several anxiety and depression scales in patients with FD, offering recommendations for clinical identification and therapy. METHODS: From September 2021 to September 2022, patients were sought and selected. The psychological symptoms were assessed using ten depression or anxiety questionnaires. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, Spearman analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and single factor analysis were applied. RESULTS: Prospective analysis was performed on 142 healthy individuals and 113 patients with FD. In the case group, anxiety and depression symptoms were more common than in the control group, and the 10 scales showed strong validity and reliability. HAMD had the strongest connection with the PHQ-9 score on the depression scale (0.83). The score correlation between SAS and HAMA on the anxiety analysis scale was the greatest at 0.77. The PHQ-9, SAS, HAMD, and HAMA measures performed exceptionally well in detecting FD with anxiety or depression symptoms (AUC = 0.72, 0.70, 0.70, 0.77, and 0.77, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: PHQ-9, SAS, HAMD, and HAMA scales have good application performance in FD patients. They can assist gastroenterologists in evaluating anxiety and depression symptoms, and provide reference and guidance for subsequent treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians for sarcopenia. METHODS: A total of 60 patients with sarcopenia were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. In the control group, conventional nutrition intervention for sarcopenia was adopted. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment in the control group, acupuncture was applied at bilateral Binao (LI 14), Quchi (LI 11), Zusanli (ST 36), Yanglingquan (GB 34), etc.,ipsilateral Quchi (LI 11) and Zusanli (ST 36) were connected to electroacupuncture, with discontinuous wave, 2 Hz in frequency, 1-10 mA in intensity, 2 times a week, with a interval of 3 days. A total of 12-week treatment was required in the two groups. Before and after treatment, the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), grip strength, 6 m-walking time, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage were observed in the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with those before treatment, after treatment, ASMI and grip strength were increased while 6 m-walking time was shortened in the two groups (P<0.05); body fat percentage was decreased while body moisture percentage was increased in the observation group (P<0.05). After treatment, in the observation group, ASMI, grip strength and body moisture percentage were increased (P<0.05), 6 m-walking time was shortened and body fat percentage was decreased (P<0.05) compared with those in the control group. CONCLUSION: Electroacupuncture at acupoints of yangming meridians can effectively improve the skeletal muscle mass, muscle function, body fat percentage and body moisture percentage in patients with sarcopenia, and make the distribution of muscle and fat more reasonable.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a new class of flame retardants present in diverse waters. The study focused on the removal of aqueous OPEs using functionalized MIL-101(Fe), which was a representative of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Adsorption kinetics of tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tributyl phosphate (TnBP), and triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) were investigated. Additionally, TCEP was selected as the model contaminant to study the adsorption isotherms, thermodynamics, and effect of solution matrix properties. Adsorption mechanisms obtained from the experiments were confirmed using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Adsorption kinetics indicated that functionalized MOFs provided a significant enhancement to the removal of TCEP. The maximum adsorption capacities qm of MIL-101(Fe), MIL-101(Fe)-NH2, MIL-101(Fe)-OH, and MIL-101(Fe)-CH3 at 298 K for TCEP were 76.040, 282.940, 119.680, and 181.274 µmol/g, respectively. By comparing the adsorption behavior of functionalized MOFs, MIL-101(Fe)-NH2 was proved to be most efficient for TCEP removal. Based on the adsorption experiments and DFT calculations, TCEP removal was dominated by physical adsorption. The van der Waals (vdW) interactions and hydrogen bonding were assumed to be involved in the adsorption. This work proves that appropriate ligand functionalization is promising for the removal of aqueous OPEs, which also provides a new insight for the control of OPEs pollution.

Thermal conductivity is required for developing high-power microwave technology. Diamond has the highest thermal conductivity in nature. In this study, a diamond film was synthesized by microwave plasma chemical deposition, and then long and short conductive graphite fibers were introduced to the diamond films by laser ablation. The permittivity of the samples in the K-band was measured using the transmission/reflection method. The permittivity of diamond films with short graphite fibers increased. The increase in real part of permittivity can be attributed to electron polarization, and the increase in the imaginary part can be ascribed to both polarization and electrical conductivity. The diamond films with long graphite fibers exhibited a highly pronounced anisotropy for microwave. The calculation of microwave absorption shows that reflection loss values exceeding -10 dB can be obtained in the frequency range of 21.3-23.5 GHz when the graphite fiber length is 0.7 mm and the sample thickness is 2.5 mm. Therefore, diamond films can be developed into a microwave attenuation material with extremely high thermal conductivity.
