RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The preservation of physical health is of crucial importance for the overall well-being of the ageing population, a concern that is particularly relevant in the context of rapidly ageing societies such as China. The Senior Fitness Test has emerged as an instrument for evaluating and monitoring the physical fitness of elderly individuals. However, there is a lack of data regarding the normative values of physical fitness among community-dwelling elderly people aged 70 years and older in China. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to propose sex- and age-specific normative values for the components of the Senior Fitness Test in a large-based sample of Chinese aged over 70, thus contributing to the development of more tailored interventions addressing the aging trends. METHODS: A total of 21,305 community-dwelling elderly individuals aged over 70 (53.02% female) were evaluated using the Senior Fitness Test in Hangzhou, China. Sex- and age-specific normative values for each component were computed, ranging from the 5th to the 95th percentile, with increments of the 5th percentile. RESULTS: The results showed that the normative values vary by gender and age, declining with age in both males and females. Males exhibit superior strength, endurance, and dynamic balance, while females tend to have greater flexibility. CONCLUSION: This study established sex- and age-specific normative values for selected components of the Senior Fitness Test among elderly individuals in China. The study's findings provided performance standards for clinically assessing the physical fitness of Chinese seniors and could serve as valuable insights for future research endeavors.

RESUMO

Coccidiosis is an important parasitic disease that has serious adverse effects on the global poultry industry. The mechanism by which the pathogenic factors of Eimeria tenella damage host cells is unknown. Some kinases from the rhoptry compartment can regulate apoptosis of host cells. This study focused on revealing the role and critical nodes of E. tenella rhoptry protein (EtROP) 38 in controlling the apoptosis of host cells via the P38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. The cells were treated with EtROP38 protein, siRNA p38MAPK, or both. The rate of infection, apoptosis, and the dynamic changes in the expression and activation of key factor genes of the P38MAPK signaling pathway in host cells infected with E. tenella were measured. The results showed that the addition of EtROP38 and/or knockdown of the host cells p38 gene reduced the apoptosis rate of cecal epithelial cells (CECS), decreased the mRNA expressions of p38, p53, c-myc, c-fos, and c-jun and increased the expression of p65, decreased the protein expressions of c-myc, c-fos, and c-jun, decreased the p38 protein phosphorylation level, and increased the p65 protein phosphorylation level in CECS. When E. tenella was inoculated for 4-96 h, the addition of Et ROP38 and/or host cell p38 knockdown both increased the infection rate of host cells, and this effect was more pronounced with the addition of EtROP38 with the host cell p38 knockdown. These observations indicate that E. tenella can inhibits the activation of the p38MAPK signaling pathway in host cells via EtROP38, which suppresses apoptosis in host cells.

RESUMO

Silymarin, a botanical medicine derived from milk thistle seeds and is known to improve chicken growth and gut health when added to the feed. However, its role in the prevention and treatment of chicken coccidiosis remains unclear. This study investigated the efficacy of various doses of silymarin in preventing and treating Eimeria tenella infection in chicks. A total of 180 one-day-old specific pathogen-free chicks were randomized into six groups of 30 chicks each, no treatment (NC group); E. tenella infection (CC group); diclazuril medication during d 14 to 21 and E. tenella infection (DC group); and three groups infected with E. tenella and administered low, medium, or high doses of silymarin during d 12 to 21. All groups except NC were infected with E. tenella on d 14, with indicators observed on d 21. The growth performance was higher in the silymarin treated groups than that in the CC group, and the oocyst count per gram of manure, blood stool, and cecal lesion scores decreased. The medium-dose silymarin group exhibited the best treatment effect. Additionally, the silymarin groups displayed improved histological, morphology, and intestinal barrier integrity. The amounts of proinflammatory factors and harmful bacteria in the cecum were also reduced. Additionally, the activity of serum and cecal antioxidant enzymes, as well as the abundance of beneficial gut microbiota, increased in the cecum. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that silymarin can prevent and treat E. tenella infections. These data provide a scientific and conceptual basis for the development of a botanical dietary supplement from silymarin for the treatment and control of coccidiosis in chicks.

RESUMO

Introduction: Body mass index (BMI) can predict mortality in critically ill patients. Moreover, mortality is related to increased bilirubin levels. Thus, herein, we aimed to investigate the effect of bilirubin levels on the usefulness of BMI in predicting mortality in critically ill patients. Methods: Data were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC IV) database. Patients were divided into two groups according to their total bilirubin levels within 24 h. Cox proportional hazard regression models were applied to obtain adjusted hazard ratios and 95 % confidence intervals for the correlation between BMI categories and hospital mortality. The dose-response relationship was flexibly modeled using a restricted cubic spline (RCS) with three knots. Results: Of the 14376 patients included, 3.4 % were underweight, 29.3 % were of normal body weight, 32.2 % were overweight, and 35.1 % were obese. For patients with total bilirubin levels <2 mg/dL, hospital mortality was significantly lower in patients with obesity than in normal body weight patients (p < 0.05). However, the opposite results were observed for patients with total bilirubin levels ≥2 mg/dL. The Cox proportional hazard regression models suggested that the risk of death was lower in patients with overweightness and obesity than in normal body weight patients when the total bilirubin levels were <2 mg/dL, but not in the other case (total bilirubin levels ≥2 mg/dL). RCS analyses showed that, for patients with total bilirubin levels <2 mg/dL, the risk of death gradually decreased with increasing BMI. Conversely, for patients with total bilirubin levels ≥2 mg/dL, this risk did not decrease with increasing BMI until reaching obesity, after which it increased rapidly. Conclusion: BMI predicted the risk of death differently in critically ill patients with different bilirubin levels.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: There are limited data on the relationship between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the associations of sleep duration with possible sarcopenia and its defining components based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study. SETTING: This study was conducted on participants aged over 45 years applying the 2011 baseline and 2015 follow-up survey from CHARLS covering 450 villages, 150 counties and 28 provinces. PARTICIPANTS: Data from 5036 individuals (2568 men and 2468 women) free of possible sarcopenia at baseline were analysed. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The dose-response relationship between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia. RESULTS: During 4 years of follow-up, 964 (19.14%) participants developed possible sarcopenia. Compared with participants who slept 6-8 hours per night, those with shorter sleep duration (<6 hours per night) were independently associated with 22% (OR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.44) increased risk of developing possible sarcopenia and 27% (OR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.57) increased risk of developing low handgrip strength after controlling for potential confounders. Long sleep duration (>8 hours per night) was not significantly associated with incident possible sarcopenia. The plots of restricted cubic splines exhibited an atypical inverse J-shaped association between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia. Subgroup analysis showed a stronger association between sleep duration and possible sarcopenia in participants aged 45-59 years and composed of male populations. CONCLUSIONS: Short sleep duration was a potential risk factor for possible sarcopenia and low handgrip strength. The improvement of sleep duration should be considered a target in early preventive and administrative strategies against the development of handgrip strength decline and further reduced the occurrence of sarcopenia.

RESUMO

The recombinant plasmid pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP containing fusion genes of chicken IL-4 and IL-2 can be used as an adjuvant to enhance the anticoccidiosis effect of the chicken coccidia live vaccine. The chickens were divided into 3 groups: blank control group, vaccine + pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP adjuvant coimmunization group, and vaccine-only group to investigate the immune synergy mechanism of recombinant plasmid adjuvant pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP. The expressions of IL-2, IL-4, TNF-α, and IFN-γ in chicken sera and tissues were detected by ELISA and RT-qPCR, and the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes and antigen presenting cells (APC) in chicken immune organs and intestines were detected by acid alpha-naphthalase (ANAE) staining, methyl green pyronine (MGP) staining, and immunofluorescence (IF) staining, respectively. Results showed that the mRNA expression of IL-2, IL-4, IFN-γ and the number of activated T and B lymphocytes were significantly upregulated in the spleen and cecum tonsils of chickens in vaccine + pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP group compared with the vaccine-only group on 7 d after vaccination (P < 0.05). Protein contents of IL-2, IL-4 and TNF-α in vaccine + pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP group were significantly increased compared to vaccine-only group on 28 d of inoculation (P < 0.05). The number of T and B lymphocytes and APC in chickens of the vaccine+ pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP group was significantly higher than that of the vaccine-only group in cecum tonsils, thymus and spleen after 14 and 28 d of inoculation (P < 0.05). All results revealed that pCI-IL-4-IL-2-EGFP adjuvant enhanced the immune response of chicken coccidia live vaccine by upregulating the expression of IL-2, IL-4, TNF-α, and IFN-γ and promoting the proliferation of T, B lymphocytes and APCs in chicken intestines and immune organ sites. Moreover, our study provides a theoretical basis for the clinical application of cytogenic plasmids as adjuvants.

RESUMO

Eimeria tenella rhoptry protein has the properties of a protective antigen. EtROP27 is a pathogenic gene that is detected via a transcriptome, but its expression pattern, immunogenicity, and potency are unknown. Therefore, a gene segment of EtROP27 was amplified and transplanted into the pET28a prokaryotic vector for the expression of the recombinant protein, and it subsequently purified for the generation of a polyclonal antibody. Then, RT-PCR and Western blotting were performed to understand the expression pattern of EtROP27. Subsequently, animal experiments were conducted to evaluate the immunoprotective effect of the recombinant protein with different immunizing doses (50, 100, and 150 µg). The results showed that the expression of EtROP27 gradually increased with the prolongation of infection time, reaching the highest level at 96 h and then decreasing. Additionally, EtROP27 is a natural antigen of coccidia that can stimulate the body to produce high levels of IgY. As with recombinant protein vaccines, the results of immune protection evaluation tests showed that the average weight gain rates of the immune challenge groups were significantly higher than that of the challenged control group, and their average lesion scores were significantly lower than that of the challenged control group. Furthermore, the oocyst excretion decreased by 81.25%, 86.21%, and 80.01%, and the anticoccidial index was 159.45, 171.47, and 166.75, respectively, for these groups. EtROP27 is a promising antigen gene candidate for the development of a coccidiosis vaccine.

RESUMO

The objective of this work was to develop a deep learning-based automatic system with reliable performance in detecting interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) from scalp electroencephalograms (EEGs). For the present study, 484 raw scalp EEG recordings were included, standardized, and split into 406 for training and 78 for testing. Two neurophysiologists individually annotated the recordings for training in channel-wise manner. Annotations were divided into segments, on which nine deep neural networks (DNNs) were trained for the multiclassification of IED, artifact, and background. The fitted IED detectors were then evaluated on 78 EEG recordings with IED events fully annotated by three experts independently (majority agreement). A two montage-based decision mechanism (TMDM) was designed to determine whether an IED event occurred at a single time instant. Area under the precision-recall curve (AUPRC), as well as false-positive rates, F1 scores, and kappa agreement scores for sensitivity = 0.8 were estimated. In multitype classification, five DNNs provided one-versus-rest AUPRC mean value >0.993 using fivefold cross-validation. In IED detection, the system that had integrated the temporal convolutional network (TCN)-based IED detector and the TMDM rule achieved an AUPRC of 0.811. The false positive was 0.194/min (11.64/h), and the F1 score was 0.745. The agreement score between the system and the experts was 0.905. The proposed framework provides a TCN-based IED detector and a novel two montage-based determining mechanism that combined to make an automatic IED detection system. The system would be useful in aiding clinic EEG interpretation.

RESUMO

Background: Some epidemiological studies have examined the association between consumption of ultra-processed food (UPF) and the risk of breast cancer. However, the results were inconsistent. Therefore, we carried out a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis to examine whether an association exists between high consumption of UPF and breast cancer risk. Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE, ISI Web of Science, EBSCO and CNKI databases were systematically searched from inception to May 2023. The summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) associated with UPF consumption and breast cancer were calculated using a random-effects model (DerSimonian-Laird method). Heterogeneity between included studies was examined using the Cochran's Q test and I-square (I2) statistics. Publication bias was studied by visual inspection of funnel plot asymmetry and Begg's and Egger's tests. Results: Overall, six articles involving 462,292 participants, were eligible to be included in this study. Compared to the lowest consumption, highest consumption of UPF was related to a higher risk of breast cancer (RR = 1.10; 95%CI: 1.00-1.22, p = 0.056). Besides, the linear dose-response analysis showed that each 10% increment in UPF consumption was related to a 5% higher risk of breast cancer (RR = 1.05; 95%CI: 1.00-1.10, p = 0.048). Subgroup analyses suggested that UPF consumption was positively associated with breast cancer risk in case-control studies (RR = 1.13; 95%CI: 1.01-1.26, p = 0.028). Additionally, there was also a significant positive association between UPF consumption and breast cancer risk in the subgroup with sample size<5,000(RR = 1.17; 95%CI: 1.02-1.35, p = 0.028). Conclusion: Our results indicate that higher consumption of UPF is slightly related to a higher risk of breast cancer. Further studies in particular of large prospective cohort studies are warranted to confirm these results.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has clustered patients based on clinical features into sub-clusters to stratify high-risk and low-risk groups to predict outcomes in lung cancer after radiotherapy and has gained much more attention in recent years. Given that the conclusions vary considerably, this meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the combined predictive effect of AI models on lung cancer. METHODS: This study was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched for relevant literature. Outcomes, including overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local control (LC), were predicted using AI models in patients with lung cancer after radiotherapy, and were used to calculate the pooled effect. Quality, heterogeneity, and publication bias of the included studies were also evaluated. RESULTS: Eighteen articles with 4719 patients were eligible for this meta-analysis. The combined hazard ratios (HRs) of the included studies for OS, LC, PFS, and DFS of lung cancer patients were 2.55 (95 % confidence interval (CI) = 1.73-3.76), 2.45 (95 % CI = 0.78-7.64), 3.84 (95 % CI = 2.20-6.68), and 2.66 (95 % CI = 0.96-7.34), respectively. The combined area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of the included articles on OS and LC in patients with lung cancer was 0.75 (95 % CI = 0.67-0.84), and 0.80 (95%CI = 0.0.68-0.95), respectively. CONCLUSION: The clinical feasibility of predicting outcomes using AI models after radiotherapy in patients with lung cancer was demonstrated. Large-scale, prospective, multicenter studies should be conducted to more accurately predict the outcomes in patients with lung cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The cytoskeletal architecture of osteoclasts (OCs) and bone resorption activity must be appropriately controlled for proper bone remodeling, which is associated with osteoporosis. The RhoA protein of GTPase plays a regulatory role in cytoskeletal components and contributes to osteoclast adhesion, podosome positioning, and differentiation. Although osteoclast investigations have traditionally been performed by in vitro analysis, however, the results have been inconsistent, and the significance of RhoA in bone physiology and pathology is still unknown. METHODS: We generated RhoA knockout mice by specifically deleting RhoA in the osteoclast lineage to understand more about RhoA's involvement in bone remodeling. The function of RhoA in osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption and the mechanisms were assessed using bone marrow macrophages (BMMs) in vitro. The ovariectomized (OVX) mouse model was adopted to examine the pathological effect of RhoA in bone loss. RESULTS: Conditional deletion of RhoA in the osteoclast lineage causes a severe osteopetrosis phenotype, which is attributable to a bone resorption suppression. Further mechanistic studies suggest that RhoA deficiency suppresses Akt-mTOR-NFATc1 signaling during osteoclast differentiation. Additionally, RhoA activation is consistently related to the significant enhancement the osteoclast activity, which culminates in the development of an osteoporotic bone phenotype. Furthermore, in mice, the absence of RhoA in osteoclast precursors prevented occurring OVX-induced bone loss. CONCLUSION: RhoA promoted osteoclast development via the Akt-mTOR-NFATc1 signaling pathway, resulting a osteoporosis phenotype, and that manipulating RhoA activity might be a therapeutic strategy for osteoporotic bone loss.

RESUMO

Intestinal mucosa injury and loss of weight gain are unavoidable while using live vaccine strain to prevent chicken coccidiosis. In this study, recombinant Lactococcus lactis NZ3900/pNZ8149-IL-4-IL-2, expressing the fusion protein of chicken IL-4 and IL-2, was constructed using food-grade NICE expression system, trying to develop a possible oral immune adjuvant to enhance the immune effect of the live vaccine against chicken coccidiosis and minimize its adverse effects. Chickens were given different doses of recombinant L. lactis together with the live vaccine, then experimently attacked with coccidia virulent strains. Results showed that weight gains of co-immunization groups, given both 1 × 109 or 1 × 1010 CFU recombinant L. lactis and the live vaccine, were significantly higher than the vaccine-only group (P<0.05), while intestinal lesion scores of duodenum, jejunum, and cecum were significantly lower than the vaccine-only group (P<0.05), so was the oocyst shedding. The anticoccidial indexes (ACI) of the co-immunized groups given 1 × 109 and 1 × 1010 CFU recombinant L. lactis were 187.85 and 193.33, respectively, higher than 174.61 of the vaccine-only group. In addition, chickens in co-immunization groups gained more body weight than the vaccine-only group before being challenged with the virulent strains (P<0.05). All the results indicated that the constructed recombinant L. lactis NZ3900/ pNZ8149-IL-4-IL-2 exhibited an immune synergistic function to coccidiosis live vaccine, and could alleviate its adverse effect affecting weight gain. The application of the recombinant L. lactis showed the potency to lift the anticoccidial efficiency of the live vaccine from a medium level to a high level.

RESUMO

Eimeria tenella mainly invades and develops into cecal epithelial cells of chickens, resulting in cecal epithelial cell damage. Infectious intracellular pathogens possibly act by influencing the autophagy process after invading cells. The interaction between E. tenella and the autophagy of host cells was explored by infecting E. tenella with chick embryo cecal epithelial cells. Transmission electron microscopy, laser confocal microscopy, and Western blot analysis were used to demonstrate that E. tenella infection could induce autophagy in host cells. Results showed that infection with E. tenella induced the formation of autophagosomes in cells. The expression of ATG 5, Beclin-1, and LC3B-II proteins were significantly (P < 0.01) increased after E. tenella infected host cells. Expression of p62 protein levels were significantly (P < 0.01) decreased in host cells infected with E. tenella. Chloroquine (CQ) significantly (P < 0.01) increased the expression levels of LC3B-II and P62 in E. tenella-infected host cells. Rapamycin (RAPA) induced autophagy in host cells, thus reducing the intracellular infection of E. tenella. By contrast, the infection rate of E. tenella increased in cells treated with 3-Methyladenine (3-MA). Hence, E. tenella sporozoite infection could induce autophagy activation in chick embryo cecal epithelial cells, and enhanced autophagy could reduce the infection rate of E. tenella.

RESUMO

This study collected 324 chicken cloacal swabs from 6 broiler farms in 4 different areas in Shanxi Province, China (i.e., Lvliang, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, and Yangquan), and analyzed the antimicrobial resistance and virulence-associated genes of the isolates to investigate the prevalence, drug resistance, and virulence gene data of Campylobacter jejuni in broilers. The population structure of C. jejuni and genetic evolutionary relationships among isolates from broiler farms in different regions were studied by using multilocus sequence typing. A total of 35 C. jejuni isolates with an infection rate of 10.8% (35/324) were obtained. The isolates were most resistant to ampicillin (85.7%) and were most sensitive to erythromycin (14.3%). Isolates with multidrug resistance accounted for 88.6% of the total isolates. In this experiment, 15 distinct sequence types were identified and included 9 new unique sequence types. cadF was present in all isolates, and ciaB had the lowest prevalence (51.4%). C. jejuni collected from broiler farms in central Shanxi had varied infection rates, and their overall positive rate was lower than of C. jejuni collected from other regions of the country. The isolates had high resistance to quinolones and ß-lactams, and multidrug resistance was prevalent. The isolates were genotypically diverse and carried 5 virulence-associated genes at high rates. Therefore, the importance of source contamination control in broiler farms is emphasized and may have considerable effects on human and animal health.

RESUMO

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent chronic liver disease. Research on the efficacy of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on NAFLD patients continues to be inconsistent. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of these microbial therapies on NAFLD. Methods: Eligible randomized-controlled trials reporting the effect of probiotics, prebiotics, or synbiotics in NAFLD were searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Google scholar, and CNKI databases from 2020 to Jul 2022. The changes in the outcomes were analyzed using standard mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with a random- or fixed-effects model to examine the effect of microbial therapies. Subgroup analysis, influence and publication bias analysis were also performed. The quality of the eligible studies was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Results: Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria involving 741 individuals. Microbial therapies could improve liver steatosis, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMAI-R) (all P < 0.05). But microbial therapies could not ameliorate body mass index (BMI), energy, carbohydrate, fat intake, fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, insulin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and hepatic fibrosis of patients with NAFLD. Conclusion: Probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics supplementation can potentially improve liver enzymes, lipid profiles, and liver steatosis in patients with NAFLD.

RESUMO

This study aimed to explore the role and key point of EtMIC4 EGF-like recombinant protein in regulating the apoptosis of Eimeria tenella host cells via the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway. The cells were treated with EtMIC4 EGF-like protein, EGFR-specific siRNA, or both. Infection and apoptosis rates as well as dynamic changes in the key genes and proteins of the EGFR signaling pathway in the host cells were determined. Results showed that the E. tenella and EtMIC4 EGF-like group had the highest infection rate (P < 0.01). In cells treated with EtMIC4 EGF-like for 4 to 24 h, the apoptosis rate was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) and the relative mRNA expression and protein phosphorylation levels of EGFR, protein kinase B (AKT), and extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK) were significantly increased (P < 0.01). In E. tenella sporozoites infected for 4 to 96 h, the rate of host cell apoptosis induced by E. tenella infection was significantly (P < 0.01) reduced by EtMIC4 EGF-like. The relative mRNA expression and protein phosphorylation levels of EGFR, AKT, and ERK in the host cells of E. tenella + EtMIC4 EGF-like group were significantly increased (P < 0.01). These results indicated that E. tenella could activate the EGFR pathway through EtMIC4 EGF-like and regulate the expression of key genes in the AKT and ERK signaling pathways, thereby inhibiting cell apoptosis.

RESUMO

Cecal epithelial cell damage is a key factor in host injure during the development of E. tenella. The intracellular free Ca2+ of the host cell is closely related to the invasion, development and proliferation of intracellular parasites, and cell damage. To determine the relationship between Ca2+ and host cell damage in the schizogenic stage of E. tenella, we established a chick embryo cecal epithelial cells model of E. tenella infection. Fluorescence staining, flow cytometry, transmission electron microscopy, inhibition and blocking experiments were used to detect the damage effect and mechanism of host cells during the schizogenic stage of E. tenella. The results showed that the host cells cytoskeletal remodeling, cell and organelle structure was destroyed, and apoptosis and necrosis were increased during the schizont stage of E. tenella. Furthermore, the above-mentioned effects of the schizogenic stage of E. tenella on cells can be alleviated by reducing the intracellular Ca2+ concentration in the host cells. These observations indicate that the effect of host cell injury was closely related to Ca2+ during schizont stage of E. tenella.

RESUMO

Nitrogen doped carbon materials containing transition metal nanoparticles have attracted much attention as bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts. In this paper, the template etching method is used to obtain the nitrogen-doped graphene with abundant macropores embedded with cobalt nanoparticles (Co@N-C). The prepared Co@NC-800 catalyst has a half-wave potential (E1/2= 0.835 V) close to Pt/C and good stability in excess of Pt/C for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). At the same time, the catalyst has good oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. In addition, zinc-air batteries (ZABs) based on the Co@NC-800 catalyst show good cycle stability of up to 200000 s and high power density of 73.5 mW cm-2 . The synergistic effect of the integrated component between nitrogen-doped graphene and cobalt nanoparticles as well as the macroporous structure endow Co@NC-800 with abundant exposed active sites and mass/electron transfer capacity, thus leading to the high electrocatalytic activity. This work shows potential for practical applications in electrochemistry.
