RESUMO

Soil-engaging components play a critical role in agricultural production and engineering construction. However, the soil-engaging components directly interacting with the soil often suffer from the problems of high resistance, adhesion, and wear, which significantly reduce the efficiency and quality of soil operations. A large number of featured studies on the design of soil-engaging components have been carried out while applying the principles of bionics extensively, and significant research results have been achieved. This review conducts a comprehensive literature survey on the application of biomimetics in the design of soil-engaging components. The focus is on performance optimization in regard to the following three aspects: draught reduction, anti-adhesion, and wear resistance. The mechanisms of various biomimetic soil-engaging components are systematically explained. Based on the literature analysis and biomimetic research, future trends in the development of biomimetic soil-engaging components are discussed from both the mechanism and application perspectives. This research is expected to provide new insights and inspiration for addressing related scientific and engineering challenges.

Soil adhesion is one of the important factors affecting the working stability and quality of agricultural machinery. The application of bionic non-smooth surfaces provides a novel idea for soil anti-adhesion. The parameters of sandy loam with 21% moisture content were calibrated by the Engineering Discrete Element Method (EDEM). The final simulated soil repose angle was highly consistent with the measured soil repose angle, and the obtained regression equation of the soil repose angle provides a numerical reference for the parameter calibration of different soils. By simulating the sinusoidal swing of a sandfish, it was found that the contact interface shows the phenomenon of stress concentration and periodic change, which reflects the effectiveness of flexible desorption and soil anti-adhesion. The moving resistance of the wedge with different wedge angles and different serrated structures was simulated. Finally, it was found that a 40° wedge with a high-tail sparse staggered serrated structure on the surface has the best drag reduction effect, and the drag reduction is about 10.73%.

Background: Active surveillance has been an option for patients with low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, whether delayed surgery leads to an increased risk of local tumor metastasis remain unclear. We sought to investigate the impact of observation time on central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and multifocal disease in patients with low-risk PTC. Methods: Patients who were diagnosed with asymptomatic low-risk PTC, and with a pathological maximum tumor size ≤1.5 cm by were included. The patients were classified into observation group and immediate surgery group, and subgroup analyses were conducted by observation time period. The prevalence of CLNM, lymph node (LN) involved >5, multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC were considered as outcome variables. The changing trend and risk ratio of prevalence over observation time were evaluated by Mann-Kendall trend test and Logistics regression. Results: Overall, 3,427 and 1,860 patients were classified to the observation group and immediate surgery group, respectively. Trend tests showed that decreasing trends both on the prevalence of CLNM and LN involved >5 over the observation time, but the difference was not statistically significant, and the prevalence of multifocal PTC and bilateral multifocal PTC showed the significant decreasing trends. After adjustment, multivariate analysis showed no statistically significant difference between observed and immediate surgery groups in the four outcome variables. Conclusion: In patients with subclinical asymptomatic low-risk PTC, observation did not result in an increased incidence of local metastatic disease, nor did the increased surgery extent in patients with delayed surgery compared to immediate surgery. These findings can strengthen the confidence in the active surveillance management for both doctors and patients.

This study explores the conversion of agricultural waste into valuable industrial precursors, specifically focusing on the production of silica nanoparticles from rice husk (RH) via calcination and sol-gel processes. The synthesized particles underwent detailed analysis to assess their chemical composition, structural features, morphological characteristics, and size distribution. This comparative analysis evaluates the effectiveness of various methods in generating silica from RH and examines the impact of different drying techniques, including freeze-drying and conventional thermal drying, on the properties of the resulting silica nanoparticles. Utilizing a combination of sol-gel and freeze-drying techniques produced spherical nanoparticles with diameters of 10 to 20 nm, characterized by size uniformity, clear contours, and minimal aggregation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis identified the amorphous nature of the silica, as evidenced by diffraction peaks typical of amorphous silica in the RH-derived samples processed via different methods. Significantly, the XRD patterns of the calcination-derived silica showed no foreign peaks, indicating a purer amorphous state. The findings of this study are anticipated to contribute to the development of innovative and efficient silica nanomaterials, fostering the sustainable use of agricultural waste.

In this paper, Ni60/WC wear-resistant coatings have been created on the Ti6Al4V substrate surface using a pre-layered powder laser cladding method by deploying various scanning speeds of 8, 10, 12, and 14 mm/s. The coatings are characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and a high-speed reciprocating fatigue wear tester. It is found that the phase composition of the coating comprises the synthesized, hard phase TiC and TiB2, the silicides WSi2 and W5Si3, and NiTi and γ-Ni solid solutions. At different scanning speeds, there is a metallurgical fusion line in the bonding area of the fused cladding layer, indicating a good metallurgical bonding between the substrate and the powder. At a low scanning speed, the coating develops into coarse dendrites, which shows significant improvement with scanning speed. The microhardness first increases and then decreases with the scanning speed, and the coating's average microhardness was 2.75-3.13 times higher than that of the substrate. The amount of mass wear has been reduced by 60.1-79.7% compared to the substrate. The wear behavior of the coatings was studied through detailed analysis of wear surfaces' microstructures and the amount of wear to identify the optimum scanning speed.

Abaca fibres that have excellent mechanical properties are widely applied in the production and preparation of eco-friendly polymer composites as reinforcement materials. However, the weak interfacial bonding property of the abaca fibre and composite matrix limits the further extended application of abaca fibre-reinforced polymer composites. In this research, the findings demonstrate that, compared to raw abaca fibres, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) value between the treated fibre and matrix is improved by 32% to 86%. Moreover, chemically treated abaca fibres could not only improve the wear resistance of the polymer composites, but also could promote the formation of primary and secondary plateaus. The best wear resistance behaviour was demonstrated by the sample with abaca fibres treated with 3% NaOH and 5% silane solutions, which had a maximum reduction in the sum wear rate of 28.44%. This research will provide detail on theoretical guidance and technical support for the development of eco-friendly natural fibre-reinforced polymer composites.

Resin-based friction materials (RBFMs) strengthened by polyether ether ketone (PEEK) fiber were designed and prepared in this study. Specimens incorporating PEEK fiber of 2-8 wt.% were fabricated based on wet granulation, and then the effects of the PEEK fiber content on the mechanical and tribological properties of RBFMs were systematically investigated. The results showed that PEEK fiber can sense the braking temperature and then effectively regulate the comprehensive properties of RBFMs. The specimen incorporating 6 wt.% PEEK fiber obtained the optimal comprehensive performance with a stable friction coefficient (COF), excellent fade resistance and recovery properties, and better wear resistance. The worn surface was inspected using a scanning electron microscope. After the friction-wear test, the specimen with 6 wt.% PEEK fiber presented a number of primary and secondary plateaus and a reduced number of pits with wear debris on the worn surface. The study indicated that PEEK fiber could not only enhance the mechanical and tribological properties of RBFMs at low temperatures because of their high strength and self-lubrication but also adhere to wear debris to reduce abrasive wear at high temperatures; furthermore, the adhered wear debris could form a secondary plateau under normal pressure, which could alleviate abrasion.

Under the conditions of conservation tillage, the existence of the root-soil complex greatly increases the resistance and energy consumption of stubble-cutting blades, especially in Northeast China. In this research, the corn root-soil complex in Northeast China was selected as the research object. Based on the multi-toothed structure of the leaf-cutting ant's mandibles and the unique bite mode of its mandibles on leaves, a gear-tooth, double-disk, bionic stubble-cutting device (BSCD) was developed by using a combination of power cutting and passive cutting. The effects of rotary speed, tillage depth, and forward speed on the torque and power of the BSCD were analyzed using orthogonal tests, and the results showed that all of the factors had a large influence on the torque and power, in the order of tillage depth > rotary speed > forward speed. The performance of the BSCD and the traditional power straight blade (TPSB) was explored using comparative tests. It was found that the optimal stubble-cutting rate of the BSCD was 97.4%. Compared with the TPSB, the torque of the BSCD was reduced by 15.2-16.4%, and the power was reduced by 9.2-11.3%. The excellent performance of the BSCD was due to the multi-toothed structure of the cutting edge and the cutting mode.

The rice husk (RH) combustion pretreatment method plays a crucial role in the extraction of nanoscale SiO2 from RH as a silicon source. This study examined the effects of diverse pretreatment methods and combustion temperatures on the particle size distribution of nanoscale high-purity amorphous SiO2 extracted from rice husk ash (RHA) post RH combustion. The experiment was structured using the Taguchi method, employing an L9 (21 × 33) orthogonal mixing table. The median diameter (D50) served as the output response parameter, with the drying method (A), combustion temperature (B), torrefaction temperature (C), and pretreatment method (D) as the input parameters. The results showed the torrefaction temperature (C) as being the predominant factor affecting the D50, which decreased with an increasing torrefaction temperature (C). The optimal parameter combination was identified as A2B2C3D2. The verification test revealed that roasting could improve the abrasiveness of Rh-based silica and reduce the average particle size. Torrefaction at medium temperatures might narrow the size distribution range of RHA-SiO2. We discovered that the purity of silica increased with an increasing roasting temperature by evaluating the concentration of silica in the sample. The production of RHA with silica concentrations up to 92.3% was investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis affirmed that SiO2's crystal structure remained unaltered across different treatment methods, consistently presenting as amorphous. These results provide a reference for extracting high-value products through RH combustion.

Environmental noise pollution is a growing challenge worldwide, necessitating effective sound absorption strategies to improve acoustic environments. Materials that draw inspiration from nature's structural design principles can provide enhanced functionalities. Wood exhibits an intricate multi-scale porous architecture that can dissipate acoustic energy. This study investigates a biomimetic sound-absorbing structure composed of hierarchical pores inspired by the vascular networks within wood cells. The perforated resonators induce complementary frequency responses and porous propagation effects for broadband attenuation. Samples were fabricated using 3D printing for systematic testing. The pore size, porosity, number of layers, and order of the layers were controlled as experimental variables. Acoustic impedance tube characterization demonstrated that optimizing these architectural parameters enables absorption coefficients approaching unity across a broad frequency range. The tuned multi-layer porous architectures outperformed single pore baselines, achieving up to a 25-35% increase in the average absorption. The bio-inspired coupled pore designs also exhibited a 95% broader working bandwidth. These enhancements result from the increased viscous losses and tailored impedance matching generated by the hierarchical porosity. This work elucidates structure-property guidelines for designing biomimetic acoustic metamaterials derived from the porous morphology of wood. The results show significant promise for leveraging such multi-scale cellular geometries in future materials and devices for noise control and dissipative engineering applications across diverse sectors.

Most natural materials have rotational and hierarchical properties, so they can show excellent mechanical properties such as shear resistance and impact resistance. In order to further improve the energy absorption characteristics of vibration absorbing structures, a new type of honeycomb structure with integral rotation and group rotation is designed and characterized. The effects of the geometrical parameters of rotation Angle on the impact deformation mode, stress response curve and energy absorption characteristics of the honeycomb structure are studied through numerical simulation and experimental design. The results show that the overall honeycomb performance of 15° is better than that of 0°, the specific energy absorption is the results show that the overall honeycomb performance of 15° is better than that of 0°, the specific energy absorption is increased by 6%, the bearing capacity is increased by 320 N, and the crushing force efficiency is increased by 2%. Compared with the whole cell and the group cell, the specific absorption energy increased by 35%, 73% and 71%. ß-tricalcium phosphate has good biodegradability and biocompatibility; it is widely perceived as a good material for treating bone deficiency. In this research, different contents of strontium (Sr) and silver (Ag) ion-doped ß-tricalcium phosphate powders were prepared using the sol-gel method. After obtaining the best ratio of pore-forming agent and binder, the as-synthesized powders were sintered in a muffle for 5 h at 1000 °C to obtain the samples. Then, these samples were degraded in vitro in simulated body fluids. The samples were tested using a series of characterization methods before and after degradation. Results showed that the amount of Sr and/or Ag doping had an effect on the crystallinity and structural parameters of the samples. After degradation, though the compressive strength of these samples decreased overall, the compressive strength of the undoped samples was higher than that of the doped samples. Notably, apatite-like materials were observed on the surface of the samples. All the results indicate that Sr and/or Ag ß-TCP has good osteogenesis and proper mechanical properties; it will be applied as a prospective biomaterial in the area of bone repair.

High wear rates during the tillage process often result in significant financial losses and wasted farming seasons. In this paper, a bionic design was used to reduce tillage wear. Inspired by wear-resistant animals with ribbed structures, the bionic ribbed sweep (BRS) was designed by combining a ribbed unit with a conventional sweep (CS). BRSs with different parameters (width φ, height h, angle θ, and interval λ) were simulated and optimized using the DEM and RSM methods at a working depth of 60 mm to evaluate the magnitude and trends of three responses: tillage resistance (TR), number of contacts between the sweep and soil particles (CNSP), and Archard wear value (AW). The results showed that a protective layer could be created on the surface of the sweep with a ribbed structure to reduce abrasive wear. Analysis of variance proved that factors φ, θ, and λ had significant effects on AW, CNSP, and TR, while factor h was insignificant. An optimal solution was obtained using the desirability method, including 8.88 mm φ, 1.05 mm h, 3.01 mm λ, and 34.46° θ. Wear tests and simulations showed that wear loss could be effectively reduced at different speeds by the optimized BRS. It was found to be feasible to create a protective layer to reduce partial wear by optimizing the parameters of the ribbed unit.

One of the primary challenges in developing bone substitutes is to create scaffolds with mechanical properties that closely mimic those of regenerated tissue. Scaffolds that mimic the structure of natural cancellous bone are believed to have better environmental adaptability. In this study, we used the porosity and thickness of pig cancellous bone as biomimetic design parameters, and porosity and structural shape as differential indicators, to design a biomimetic bone beam scaffold. The mechanical properties of the designed bone beam model were tested using the finite element method (FEM). PCL/ß-TCP porous scaffolds were prepared using the FDM method, and their mechanical properties were tested. The FEM simulation results were compared and validated, and the effects of porosity and pore shape on the mechanical properties were analyzed. The results of this study indicate that the PCL/ß-TCP scaffold, prepared using FDM 3D printing technology for cancellous bone tissue engineering, has excellent integrity and stability. Predicting the structural stability using FEM is effective. The triangle pore structure has the most stability in both simulations and tests, followed by the rectangle and honeycomb shapes, and the diamond structure has the worst stability. Therefore, adjusting the porosity and pore shape can change the mechanical properties of the composite scaffold to meet the mechanical requirements of customized tissue engineering.

Resin-based friction materials (RBFM) are widely used in the fields of automobiles, agriculture machinery and engineering machinery, and they are vital for safe and stable operation. In this paper, polymer ether ketone (PEEK) fibers were added to RBFM to enhance its tribological properties. Specimens were fabricated by wet granulation and hot-pressing. The relationship between intelligent reinforcement PEEK fibers and tribological behaviors was investigated by a JF150F-II constant-speed tester according to GB/T 5763-2008, and the worn surface morphology was observed using an EVO-18 scanning electron microscope. The results showed that PEEK fibers can efficiently enhance the tribological properties of RBFM. A specimen with 6 ωt% PEEK fibers obtained the optimal tribological performance, the fade ratio was -6.2%, which was much higher than that of the specimen without the addition of PEEK fibers, the recovery ratio was 108.59% and the wear rate was the lowest, which was 1.497 × 10-7 cm3/(Nm)-1. The reason for the enhancing tribological performance was that, on the one hand, PEEK fibers have a high strength and modulus which can enhance the specimens at lower temperatures; on the other hand, molten PEEK at high temperatures can also promote the formation of secondary plateaus, which are beneficial for friction. The results in this paper can lay a foundation for future studies on intelligent RBFM.

Because of the excellent thermal conduction, corrosion resistance, and tribological properties, copper-based friction materials (CBFMs) were widely used in airplanes, high-speed trains, and wind power generation. With operating speed continuously increasing, CBFMs are suffering more complicated and extreme working conditions, which would cause abnormal abrasion. This paper presents an experiment to investigate how the tribological behaviors of CBFMs are regulated by granulation technology. Samples were prepared by the method of granulation and cool-pressed sinter. The tribological properties of specimens with different granule sizes were studied. The results showed that granulation could improve the tribological properties of CBFMs. The friction coefficient (COF) increased first and then decreased with increasing granule size. Specimen fabricated with 5-8 mm granules obtained the lowest COF, which was reduced by 22.49% than that made of powders. Moreover, the wear rate decreased first and then increased as granule size increased. The wear rate of samples prepared by granules 3-5 mm was lower than that of all of the other samples. This is because the structured samples prepared by wet granulation can promote the formation of secondary plateaus, which are beneficial for enhancing tribological properties. This makes granulation a promising method for enhancing the tribological performances of CBFMs.

PURPOSE: To summarize the treatment experience of single-center children with PTC and to explore the influence of initial surgery on the recurrence/metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in children. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of PTC case data of children (≤ 18 years old) who were admitted to and received surgical treatment in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January 2012 to December 2020. RESULTS: A total of 64 children with PTC were included, including 45 cases (70.31%) with a single lesion, and 19 cases (29.69%) with multiple lesions (≥ 2 lesions). Fifteen patients relapsed. Univariate analysis found that gender, thyroidectomy scope, central lymph node dissection, and lateral lymph node dissection were risk factors affecting reoperation; multi-factor analysis showed that central lymph node dissection was an independent risk factor affecting reoperation. According to Kaplan-Meier analysis, central lymph node dissection, total thyroidectomy (TT), lobectomy (LT), and disease-free survival (DFS) were statistically significant (p = 0.000, p = 0.000). CONCLUSION: At the time of diagnosis of PTC in children, the rate of lymph node metastasis in the central and lateral cervical regions is high. The vast majority of children with PTC should be treated with TT, and LT is chosen for a small number of patients. CND should be routinely lined.

Background: Active surveillance (AS) has been considered the first-line management for patients with clinical low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) who often have lymph node micrometastasis (m-LNM) when diagnosed. The "low-risk" and "high prevalence of m-LNM" paradox is a potential barrier to the acceptance of AS for thyroid cancer by both surgeons and patients. Methods: Patients diagnosed with PTMC who underwent thyroidectomy with at least one lymph node (LN) examined were identified from a tertiary center database (n = 5,399). A ß-binomial distribution was used to estimate the probability of missing nodal disease as a function of the number of LNs examined. Overall survival (OS) probabilities of groups with adequate and inadequate numbers of LNs examined were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (n = 15,340). A multivariable model with restricted cubic splines was also used to verify the association of OS with the number of LNs examined. Results: The risk of residual m-LNM (missed nodal disease) ranged from 31.3% to 10.0% if the number of LNs examined ranged from 1 and 7 in patients with PTMC. With 7 LNs examined serving as the cutoff value, the intergroup comparison showed that residual positive LNs did not affect OS across all patients and patients aged ≥55 years (P = 0.72 and P = 0.112, respectively). After adjusting for patient and clinical characteristics, the multivariate model also showed a slight effect of the number of LNs examined on OS (P = 0.69). Conclusions: Even with the high prevalence, OS is not significantly compromised by persistent m-LNM in the body of patients with low-risk PTMC. These findings suggest that the concerns of LNM should not be viewed as an obstacle to developing AS for thyroid cancer. For patients with PTMC who undergo surgery, prophylactic central LN dissection does not provide a survival benefit.

Abstract Objective: In 2015, American Thyroid Association (ATA) issued the first version of Management Guidelines for Children with Thyroid Nodules and Differentiated Thyroid Cancer. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the ATA pediatric guidelines recommended surgical approach for the patient can be applied to surgical treatment of pediatric PTC in China. Method: From April 2012 to December 2020, clinical data of children (≤18 years) with PTC consecutively admitted and treated with initial surgery in the study's department were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The authors found that the central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) rate was significantly higher than that in the lateral neck (83.33 % vs 62.96%, χ2 = 5.704, p = 0.017) .The lymph node metastasis rate was significantly lower in cN1b (-) patients than in cN1b (+) patient (55.00% vs 100.00%, χ2 = 15.263, p = 0.000); Meanwhile, the CLNM and LLNM rates of ipsilateral were significantly higher than those of contralateral central compartment (83.33༅vs 57.41༅%, χ2 = 8.704, p = 0.003). Lymph nodes of 51 lateral lymph node dissection (LND) were analyzed, which revealed the LNM rate of cN1b (-) patients was significantly lower than that of cN1b (+) patients (55.00% vs. 100.00%, χ2 = 15.263, p = 0.000). Conclusion: Children and adolescents have a higher rate of lymph node metastasis at the time of diagnosis. TT should be conducted in the majority of children with PTC. CND should be routinely performed; therapeutic LND is recommended for children with cN1b (+).

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: In 2015, American Thyroid Association (ATA) issued the first version of Management Guidelines for Children with Thyroid Nodules and Differentiated Thyroid Cancer. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the ATA pediatric guidelines recommended surgical approach for the patient can be applied to surgical treatment of pediatric PTC in China. METHOD: From April 2012 to December 2020, clinical data of children (≤18 years) with PTC consecutively admitted and treated with initial surgery in the study's department were retrospectively reviewed.
