RESUMO
A correlational study using the Mach IV and FIRO-B questionnaires examined the attitudes of 120 postgraduate and undergraduate students, the majority of whom had significant work experience. A curvilinear relationship observed between the FIRO-B and Mach IV scales calls into question an aspect of Will Schutz's prescription for interpersonal compatibility.

10 FIRO-B intercorrelation matrices were factor analysed; one matrix was derived from new FIRO-B data, all the other matrices were found in the literature. The correlation matrices were also subjected to meta-analysis. The findings suggested that the four FIRO-B scales associated with Inclusion and Affection are facets of the ubiquitous interpersonal superfactor, Nurturance, but the two FIRO-B Control scales each express an orthogonal construct both of which relate to the super-factor, Dominance.

A sample of 51 mature, established, and successful artists and sculptors were invited to partition line segments with a pencil mark so that the resulting two line segments formed the most pleasing proportion. It was anticipated that this particular group of subjects would choose the golden section. However, the proportion of 1:2 and not the golden section was the over-all ratio of choice. These data were contrasted with those obtained in similar but earlier work conducted by another researcher who tested psychology students as subjects.

In experimental enquiries into the aesthetic properties of the golden section, investigators have tended to employ tests which either require the subjects to generate an artifact or require the subjects to choose between artifacts shown to them. These researchers have assumed that the findings from each type of test are equally valid. This assumption was investigated and shown to be tenable for the partitioning of line segments. Experimental subjects (N = 57) expressed an aesthetic preference for the same line partitioning ratios irrespective of the type of test employed.

Factor analysis of FIRO-B data obtained from new software product teams had led to a reformulation of Schutz's ideas on team compatibility. The concept of Group-Warmth as a derivative of the FIRO-B Inclusion and Affection scales was developed and shown to be related to the commercial effectiveness of teams. In a like manner, the FIRO-B constructs of Control-Expressed and Control-Wanted were explored through concurrent factor analysis of 16 PF data. A new interpretation has been given to both FIRO-B Control scales, namely, Assertive-Impulsive.
