RESUMO

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective study at a single academic institution. PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify imaging risk factors for stenosis in extended neck positions undetectable in preoperative neutral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and improving decompression strategies for cervical spine disorders. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Cervical disorders are influenced by various dynamic factors, with spinal stenosis appearing during neck extension. Despite the diagnostic value of dynamic cervical MRI, standard practice often uses neutral-position MRI, potentially influencing surgical outcomes. METHODS: This study analyzed 143 patients who underwent decompression surgery between 2012 and 2014, who had symptomatic cervical disorders and MRI evidence of spinal cord or nerve compression but had no history of cervical spine surgery. Patient demographics, disease type, Japanese Orthopedic Association score, and follow-up periods were recorded. Spinal surgeons conducted radiological evaluations to determine stenosis levels using computed tomography myelography or MRI in neutral and extended positions. Measurements such as dural tube and spinal cord diameters, cervical alignment, range of motion, and various angles and distances were also analyzed. The residual space available for the spinal cord (SAC) was also calculated. RESULTS: During extension, new stenosis frequently appeared caudal to the stenosis site in a neutral position, particularly at C5/C6 and C6/C7. A low SAC was identified as a significant risk factor for the development of new stenosis in both the upper and lower adjacent disc levels. Each 1-mm decrease in SAC resulted in an 8.9- and 2.7-fold increased risk of new stenosis development in the upper and lower adjacent disc levels, respectively. A practical SAC cutoff of 1.0 mm was established as the threshold for new stenosis development. CONCLUSIONS: The study identified SAC narrowing as the primary risk factor for new stenosis, with a clinically relevant cutoff of 1 mm. This study highlights the importance of local factors in stenosis development, advocating for further research to improve outcomes in patient with cervical spine disorders.

RESUMO

Many previous studies have suggested that various plant hormones play essential roles in the grafting process. In this study, to understand the plant hormones that accumulate in the graft junctions, whether these are supplied from the scion or rootstock, and how these hormones play a role in the grafting process, we performed a hormonome analysis that accumulated in the incision site of the upper plants from the incision as "ungrafted scion" and lower plants from the incision as "ungrafted rootstock" in Nicotiana benthamiana. The results revealed that indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and gibberellic acid (GA), which regulate cell division; abscisic acid (ABA) and jasmonic acid (JA), which regulate xylem formation; cytokinin (CK), which regulates callus formation, show different accumulation patterns in the incision sites of the ungrafted scion and rootstock. In addition, to try discussing the differences in the degree and speed of each event during the grafting process between intra- and inter-family grafting by determining the concentration and accumulation timing of plant hormones in the graft junctions, we performed hormonome analysis of graft junctions of intra-family grafted plants with N. benthamiana as scion and Solanum lycopersicum as rootstock (Nb/Sl) and inter-family grafted plants with N. benthamiana as scion and Arabidopsis thaliana as rootstock (Nb/At), using the ability of Nicotiana species to graft with many plant species. The results revealed that ABA and CK showed different accumulation timings; IAA, JA, and salicylic acid (SA) showed similar accumulation timings, while different accumulated concentrations in the graft junctions of Nb/Sl and Nb/At. This information is important for understanding the molecular mechanisms of plant hormones in the grafting process and the differences in molecular mechanisms between intra- and inter-family grafting.

RESUMO

Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors are expected to exhibit efficacy against inflammatory diseases due to their broad pharmacological activity. The launched PDE4 inhibitors apremilast, crisaborole, and roflumilast have not exhibited sufficient inhibitory potential due to poor margins of effectiveness and tolerability. In this report, we describe the non-clinical efficacy, brain translocation, and vomit-inducing effects of ME3183 compared with apremilast. ME3183 showed extensive cytokine suppression in vitro studies using human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and T cells. ME3183 also significantly suppressed skin inflammation in a chronic oxazolone-induced dermatitis model and showed antipruritic effects in a substance P-induced mouse pruritus model. In these in vitro and in vivo studies, ME3183 also significantly suppressed cytokines, and focusing on tumor necrosis factor-α as a psoriasis-related cytokine and interleukin-4 as an atopic dermatitis-related cytokine, ME3183 potently inhibited both cytokines. ME3183 showed in vivo efficacy at lower doses than apremilast. The brain distribution of ME3183 was sufficiently low in mice and rats. The effective dose of ME3183 for emesis was similar to that of apremilast in ferrets. Given its high-potency inhibitory effects, ME3183 would have a wide margin of efficacy and tolerability. These wide margins demonstrate the effectiveness of ME3183 in treating many inflammatory diseases, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. An on-going phase 2 trial is expected to further demonstrate the efficacy and safety of ME3183.

RESUMO

This case report focuses on a 15-year-old competitive-level high school basketball player who experienced chronic low back pain. Diagnostic imaging revealed osteoid osteoma in the L5 posterior element, causing osteosclerotic deformity of the left lamina and more inferior facet. To return him to the condition of sports activity, less invasive surgery of microscopic tumor resection with autologous bone grafting was planned instead of CT-guided ablation, which can cause thermal injury to nearby tissues. This procedure could preserve spinal structures, including the facet, pedicle, and paravertebral muscles. The day after surgery, the patient experienced a complete resolution of lower back pain. He gradually resumed light exercise two months postoperatively. Three-month follow-up CT imaging revealed bone remodeling at the resection site, to return to complete basketball activities. Over five years, no tumor recurrence or symptoms were observed, and he maintained his competitive activity level.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been the first-line treatment for early-stage esophageal cancer. However, it often causes postoperative stricture in cases requiring wide dissection. Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) reportedly has anti-scarring effects during cutaneous wound healing. We hypothesized that suppressing myofibroblast activation will prevent stricture after esophageal ESD. METHODS: We resected a complete porcine esophagus circumference section by ESD. To investigate the preventive effect of bFGF on esophageal stricture formation after ESD, we endoscopically applied bFGF-soaked poly-glycolic acid (PGA) sheets onto the wound bed after ESD and fixed them by spraying fibrin glue (PGA + bFGF group), PGA sheets alone onto the wound bed and fixed them by spraying fibrin glue (PGA group), or nothing (control group). After removing the esophagus on day 22, we evaluated the mucosal constriction rate. RESULTS: Compared with those in the control group, esophageal stricture was significantly reduced in the PGA + bFGF group, and the areas stained with α-SMA and calponin-1 antibodies were significantly inhibited in the PGA + bFGF and PGA groups. The thickness of the fibrous layer in the PGA + bFGF group was uniform compared to that of the other groups. Thus, PGA + bFGF inhibited the development of unregulated fibroblasts in the acute phase, leading to uniform wound healing. CONCLUSIONS: Stenosis after esophageal ESD is related to fibrosis in the acute phase. Administration of PGA and bFGF suppresses myofibroblast activation in the acute phase, thereby preventing esophageal constriction in pigs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Optical biopsy using endocytoscopy for superficial nonampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs) is practical; however, a diagnostic algorithm has not been established. The aim of this study was to determine correlations of endocytoscopic findings of SNADETs with histology using computer analysis and to establish an algorithm. METHODS: Endocytoscopic images and histological images of duodenal lesions from 70 patients were retrospectively collected. The numbers of glands and densely stained areas with methylene blue (DSMs) per 1 mm2 and the percentage of DSMs per screen in endocytoscopy were determined. Moreover, correlations in DSMs and glands between endocytoscopy and histological images were analyzed. Histopathological diagnoses were assessed according to the revised Vienna classification. The primary outcome was correlation between the number of glands in endocytoscopy and that in histology. Finally, a diagnostic algorithm for endoscopic intervention of SNADETs with a statistical program command was established. RESULTS: The number of glands in endocytoscopic images was correlated with that in histopathological images (ρ 0.64, P < 0.001). There were significant differences in the mean number of glands between category 4/5 and category 3 (P = 0.03) and the mean percentage of DSMs between category 4/5 and category 1 (P < 0.001). When the cutoffs for the number of glands and percentage of DSMs were set at 47 per 1 mm2 and 20.8% in one screen, respectively, the area under the ROC curve was 0.89. CONCLUSIONS: Endocytoscopic images of SNADETs reflect histopathological atypia, and computer analysis provides a practical diagnostic algorithm for endoscopic intervention.

RESUMO

We investigated the effect of cold plasma application on the yield and grain quality of rice (Oryza sativa L.), focusing on the brewer's rice cultivar, Yamadanishiki. Two treatment methods were examined in a paddy; direct plasma irradiation of seedlings and indirect treatment with plasma-activated Ringer's lactate solution (PAL) during the vegetative growth phase. Periodic direct irradiation for 30 s increased whole plant weight and grain yield. Treatment with PAL promoted some growth of panicles relatively and partially suppressed the growth of culms and leaves. Both treatments affected the grain quality; an increase of the ratio of white-core grains to total number of grains, which is suited for producing Japanese sake rice, as well as a decrease of the ratio of immature grains. The results showed that the effective production of rice grains for sake production can be improved by the application of cold plasma treatment of rice seedlings in a paddy.HighlightRice plants of brewer's rice cultivar in a paddy were treated with cold plasma, by the direct irradiation of plants and the immersed of plants in plasma-activated Ringer's lactate (PAL).Direct plasma irradiation promoted plant weight, grain ripening, and increased yield.PAL treatment affected the growth of main stem and promoted the growth of panicles relatively. Both treatments improved the producing white-core grains, in addition to promotion of grain ripening.Cold plasma treatment can be applied to produce stable and high-quality food in various agriculture and food industries, which can achieve the sustainable developmental goals (SDGs).

RESUMO

The aquaporin (AQP) family, also called water channels or major intrinsic proteins, facilitate water transport. AQPs also transport low-molecular-weight solutes, including boric acid, glycerol, urea, and ammonia. Since plants are sessile, water homeostasis is crucial. Therefore, plants have developed diverse AQP variants at higher expression levels than animals. For example, 35 and 33 AQPs have been identified in Arabidopsis and rice, respectively. In the present study, we identified AQPs in morning glory (Ipomoea nil), which has been widely used as a model plant in research on flowering and floral morphology. The importance of AQPs in the opening of morning glory flowers has been reported. In the morning glory genome, 44 AQPs were identified, and their characteristics were analyzed. A phylogenetic analysis revealed five AQP subfamilies in morning glory: plasma membrane-intrinsic proteins (PIPs), tonoplast-intrinsic proteins (TIPs), nodulin 26-like intrinsic proteins (NIPs), small basic intrinsic proteins (SIPs), and X-intrinsic proteins (XIPs). Further, transport substrates of morning glory AQPs were estimated based on their homology to the known AQPs in other plant species and their corresponding amino acid motifs that possess permeability pores. It was expected that PIPs are likely to transport water, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen peroxide; TIPs are likely transport water, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, urea, and boric acid; NIPs are likely transport water, boric acid, ammonia, glycerol, and formamide; and XIPs are likely to transport water, hydrogen peroxide, and glycerol. Overall, these results suggest that AQPs are involved in water and nutrient transport in Japanese morning glory. An in silico gene expression analysis suggested the importance of AQPs in flower opening, water or nutrient uptakes from the soil to roots, and photosynthesis in morning glory. Our findings provide fundamental information that enables further study into the importance of AQPs in morning glory, including their roles in flower opening and other physiological events.

RESUMO

Plant secondary metabolites exhibit various horticultural traits. Simple and rapid analysis methods for evaluating these metabolites are in demand in breeding and consumer markets dealing with horticultural crops. We applied probe electrospray ionization (PESI) to evaluate secondary metabolite levels in horticultural crops. PESI does not require pre-treatment and separation of samples, which makes it suitable for high-throughput analysis. In this study, we targeted anthocyanins, one of the primary pigments in horticultural crops. Eighty-one anthocyanins were detected in approximately 3 minutes in the selected reaction-monitoring mode. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) could adequately distinguish between the fragments of anthocyanins and flavonols. Probe sampling, an intuitive method of sticking a probe directly to the sample, could detect anthocyanins qualitatively on a micro-area scale, such as achenes and receptacles in strawberry fruit. Our results suggest that PESI/MS/MS can be a powerful tool to characterize the profile of anthocyanins and compare their content among cultivars.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Linked color imaging (LCI) is useful for screening in the gastrointestinal tract; however, its true clinical benefit has not been determined. The aim of this study was to determine the objective advantage of LCI for detection of upper gastrointestinal neoplasms. METHODS: Nine endoscopists, including three novices, three trainees, and three experts, prospectively performed eye tracking. From 30 cases of esophageal or gastric neoplasm and 30 normal cases without neoplasms, a total of 120 images, including 60 pair images of white light imaging (WLI) and LCI taken at the same positions and angles, were randomly shown for 10 s. The sensitivity of tumor detection as a primary endpoint was evaluated and sensitivities by organ, size, and visual gaze pattern were also assessed. Color differences (ΔE using CIE1976 [L*a*b*]) between lesions and surrounding mucosa were measured and compared with detectability. RESULTS: A total of 1080 experiments were completed. The sensitivities of tumor detection in WLI and LCI were 53.7% (50.1-56.8%) and 68.1% (64.8-70.8%), respectively (P = 0.002). LCI provided higher sensitivity than WLI for the novice and trainee groups (novice: 42.2% [WLI] vs 65.6% [LCI], P = 0.003; trainee: 54.4% vs 70.0%, P = 0.045). No significant correlations were found between sensitivity and visual gaze patterns. LCI significantly increased ΔE, and the diagnostic accuracy with WLI depended on ΔE. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, LCI significantly improved sensitivity in the detection of epithelial neoplasia and enabled epithelial neoplasia detection that is not possible with the small color difference in WLI. RESUMO

Microorganisms in the environment can be distinguished into dominant and rare microbial species based on their genes. It is difficult to obtain genetic information derived from rare microbial species (rare genes) because of the differences in relative abundance. DNA normalization is an approach that is used to obtain genetic information derived from rare microbial species from an environmental sample. This method involves the addition of adapter sequences for the amplification, denaturation, and reassociation of the DNA fragments and single-stranded DNA (ssDNA)/double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) separation. In this method, the amount of a high-copy-number of DNA fragments and a low-copy-number of DNA fragments can be equalized. Improvements in this technique are expected to provide novel genetic information or genes in rare microbial species. However, few model experimental systems have been reported to validate the DNA normalization techniques. This study is aimed to improve the DNA normalization technique used to obtain genetic information of rare genes from rare microbial species. An experimental study was constructed with two antibiotic resistance genes, whose copy numbers differed up to a million-fold. Both genes were mixed and the mixture of DNA fragments, of high- and low-copy-number, containing these genes was normalized by separating ssDNA/dsDNA fragments using hydroxyapatite. Normalized DNA fragments were introduced into Escherichia coli and DNA normalization was evaluated by counting colonies. Moreover, we improved the method to amplify a low-copy-number of DNA fragments by the addition of adapter sequences to DNA fragments using HiDi DNA polymerase to increase the efficiency of DNA normalization. This normalization method was achieved with a 100,000-fold difference. These methods allowed for quantitative evaluation of the DNA normalization efficiency. The experimental data and methods obtained in this study are expected to improve the DNA normalization efficiency to obtain novel genetic information or genes.

RESUMO

Treatment of spinal metastasis has attracted much attention globally, especially in Japan, with the advancement of cancer therapy. Among the metastases, those from breast and prostate cancers may be more important than others considering the high incidence of bone metastasis and the long-term prognosis. This condition often results in surgical procedures of spinal metastases to improve cancer patients' quality of life (QOL). In the present case, a patient with lumbar metastasis of breast cancer presented with right L5 nerve palsy after palliative laminectomy surgery with posterior fusion. The nerve palsy had improved after additional bone resection around the right L5 root. The mechanism of this postoperative leg paralysis was subclinical nerve root damage due to the narrowing of the intervertebral foramen caused by the tumor protrusion like lumber disc hernia and the stretching of the nerve roots caused by the posterior shift of the dural tube. When performing decompression and fixation of a metastatic spine showing a herniated tumor formed by a tumor protruding posteriorly into the intervertebral foraminal space, sufficient tumor mass debulking should be considered to avoid postoperative intervertebral foraminal stenosis.

RESUMO

The R2R3-MYB transcription factor is one of the largest transcription factor families in plants. R2R3-MYBs play a variety of functions in plants, such as cell fate determination, organ and tissue differentiations, primary and secondary metabolisms, stress and defense responses and other physiological processes. The Japanese morning glory (Ipomoea nil) has been widely used as a model plant for flowering and morphological studies. In the present study, 127 R2R3-MYB genes were identified in the Japanese morning glory genome. Information, including gene structure, protein motif, chromosomal location and gene expression, were assigned to the InR2R3-MYBs. Phylogenetic tree analysis revealed that the 127 InR2R3-MYBs were classified into 29 subfamilies (C1-C29). Herein, physiological functions of the InR2R3-MYBs are discussed based on the functions of their Arabidopsis orthologues. InR2R3-MYBs in C9, C15, C16 or C28 may regulate cell division, flavonol biosynthesis, anthocyanin biosynthesis or response to abiotic stress, respectively. C16 harbors the known anthocyanin biosynthesis regulator, InMYB1 (INIL00g10723), and putative anthocyanin biosynthesis regulators, InMYB2 (INIL05g09650) and InMYB3 (INIL05g09651). In addition, INIL05g09649, INIL11g40874 and INIL11g40875 in C16 were suggested as novel anthocyanin biosynthesis regulators. We organized the R2R3-MYB transcription factors in the morning glory genome and assigned information to gene and protein structures and presuming their functions. Our study is expected to facilitate future research on R2R3-MYB transcription factors in Japanese morning glory.

RESUMO

This study aims to: (i) identify the Rosa S-locus controlling self-incompatibility (SI); (ii) test the genetic linkage of the S-locus with other loci controlling important ornamental traits, such as the continuous-flowering (CF) characteristic; (iii) identify the S-alleles (SC ) of old Chinese CF cultivars (e.g, Old Blush, Slater's Crimson China) and examine the changes in the frequency of cultivars with Sc through the history of breeding; (iv) identify wild species carrying the Sc-alleles to infer wild origins of CF cultivars. We identified a new S-RNase (SC2 ) of Rosa chinensis in a contig from a genome database that has not been integrated into one of the seven chromosomes yet. Genetic mapping indicated that SC2 is allelic to the previously-identified S-RNase (SC1 ) in chromosome 3. Pollination experiments with half-compatible pairs of roses confirmed that they are the pistil-determinant of SI. The segregation analysis of an F1 -population indicated genetic linkage between the S-locus and the floral repressor gene KSN. The non-functional allele ksn is responsible for the CF characteristic. A total of five S-alleles (SC1-5 ) were identified from old CF cultivars. The frequency of cultivars with SC dramatically increased after the introgression of ksn from Chinese to European cultivars and remains high (80%) in modern cultivars, suggesting that S-genotyping is helpful for effective breeding. Wild individuals carrying SC were found in Rosa multiflora (SC1 ), Rosa chinensis var. spontanea (SC3 ), and Rosa gigantea (SC2 , SC4 ), supporting the hypothesis of hybrid origins of CF cultivars and providing a new evidence for the involvement of Rosa multiflora.

RESUMO

In grafted plants, inorganic ions and plant hormones in the xylem exudate transported from the rootstock to the scion directly or indirectly affect the scion, thereby improving the traits. Therefore, the concentration of these components in the xylem exudate of grafted plants may be an indicator for rootstock selection. On the other hand, few reports have presented a comprehensive analysis of substances transferred from the rootstock to the scion in plants grafted onto different rootstocks, primarily commercial cultivars. In this study, we measured inorganic ions and plant hormones in the xylem exudate from the rootstock to the scion in various grafted plants of tomato and eggplant. The results revealed that the concentrations of inorganic ions and plant hormones in the xylem exudate significantly differed depending on the type of rootstock. In addition, we confirmed the concentration of the inorganic ions and plant hormones in the xylem exudate of plants grafted onto the same tomato rootstock cultivars as rootstock with tomato or eggplant as the scions. As a result, the concentrations of inorganic ions and plant hormones in the xylem exudate were significantly different in the grafted plants with eggplant compared with tomato as the scion. These results suggest that signals from the scion (shoot) control the inorganic ions and plant hormones transported from the rootstock (root).

RESUMO

A 57-year-old woman underwent cervical implant surgery for a dislocated cervical spine fracture, and she complained of continuous intractable neck pain after surgery. Eight years later, she developed a plantar skin rash, subsequently diagnosed as a metal allergy, and metal dentures were replaced with ceramic ones. The skin rash, however, persisted for four more years after that and was eventually treated with cervical implant removal. Subsequently, her skin rash and her neck pain improved simultaneously. This synchronous improvement strongly suggested that the neck pain could have been caused by a cervical implant allergy. We discuss a case of posterior cervical implant allergy that presented with neck pain and plantar skin rash years after surgery.

RESUMO

Valsartan is an antihypertensive drug that was developed using common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) in pivotal toxicity studies as a non-rodent species. The aim of the present study was to investigate the utility of marmosets in the candidate selection of this drug from a pharmacokinetic and metabolic viewpoint.Valsartan, as well as three other angiotensin II type-I receptor blockers, assumed as competitive candidates, were administered to common marmosets. Human pharmacokinetic parameters predicted by single-species allometric scaling and Wajima superposition suggested that valsartan may exhibit promising pharmacokinetic properties in humans. In vitro metabolic studies of valsartan using isolated rat, dog, marmoset, cynomolgus monkey, and human hepatocytes revealed that the marmoset was the most relevant animal species to humans presenting with the most abundant human metabolite, 4-hydroxyvalsartan. Oral administration of an elevated dose of valsartan to a common marmoset demonstrated that the level of 4-hydroxyvalsartan in the plasma was comparable to that in clinical practice and suggested that safety of the human metabolite might have been confirmed in the toxicity studies using common marmosets. These results suggest that common marmosets, the small, non-human primates, had been a suitable species for the development of valsartan.

RESUMO

Fruit shape is an important trait that attracts consumers, and the regulation of genes related to cell division is crucial for shaping multicellular organs. In Arabidopsis, MYB3R transcription factors, which harbor three imperfect repeats in the N-terminus, control organ growth by regulating cell division. However, the function of MYB3Rs in tomato remains unknown. Here, we characterized tomato SlMYB3R3, which was preferentially expressed in flowers and placed in a subclade with two Arabidopsis cell cycle suppressors (MYB3R3/5). slmyb3r3 knockout mutants were generated using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Morphological observation of the slmyb3r3 mutants showed that fruits that were elongated and occasionally peanut-like in shape were formed, which was caused by significantly increased cell numbers in the longitudinal direction. Transcriptome and yeast one-hybrid assay results suggested that SlMYB3R3 acted as a suppressor of cell-cycle-related genes by binding to the mitosis-specific activator (MSA) motifs in their promoters. Taken together, knock out of the suppressor SlMYB3R3 leads to elongated fruit, which results from the altered cell division pattern at the ovary stage, by regulating cell-cycle-related genes in an MSA-dependent manner. Our results suggest that SlMYB3R3 and its orthologs have the potential to change fruit shape as part of the molecular breeding of fruit crops.

RESUMO

Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is an important fruit crop in the world. It is used as a table grape and is also used for raisin and wine production. Grape berries accumulate secondary metabolites, such as anthocyanins, tannins, and resveratrol, which are known as functional compounds for human health. Multidrug and toxic compound extrusion transporter (MATEs) transport secondary metabolites. MATEs also transport other solutes, including organic acids, and toxic xenobiotics, depending on cation gradient and play various roles in plants. MATE comprises 300-500 amino acid residues and possesses a MATE domain and 8-12 transmembrane domains. In the present study, 59 MATE genes were identified in the grape genome, and phylogenetic analysis revealed the presence of four groups of grape MATEs (Group 1-4). Their information, such as gene structures, protein motifs, predicted subcellular localizations, and gene IDs of four genome annotations, that is, CRIBI v1, CRIBI v2, Genoscope, and Vcost v3, were annotated. The transport substrates and physiological functions of grape MATEs were estimated based on their homology with the analyzed MATEs in other plant species. Group 1 may transport toxic compounds and alkaloids, Group 2 may transport polyphenolic compounds, Group 3 may transport organic acids, and Group 4 may transport plant hormones related to signal transduction. In addition to the known anthocyanin transporters, VvMATE37 and VvMATE39, a novel anthocyanin transporter, VvMATE38 in Group 2, was suggested as a key transporter for anthocyanin accumulation in grape berry skin. VvMATE46, VvMATE47, and VvMATE49 in Group 3 may contribute to Al3+ detoxification and Fe2+/Fe3+ translocation via organic acid transport. This study provides helpful and fundamental information for grape MATE studies and resolves the confusion of gene IDs in different genome annotations.
