RESUMO

Exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) have great potential in the fight against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. In this study, we explored the various applications of these small molecules while analyzing their complex roles in tumor development, metastasis, and changes in the tumor microenvironment. We also discussed the complex interactions that exist between exosomal miRNAs and other non-coding RNAs such as circular RNAs, and show how these interactions coordinate important biochemical pathways that propel the development of HCC. The possibility of targeting exosomal miRNAs for therapeutic intervention is paramount, even beyond their mechanistic significance. We also highlighted their growing potential as cutting-edge biomarkers that could lead to tailored treatment plans by enabling early identification, precise prognosis, and real-time treatment response monitoring. This thorough analysis revealed an intricate network of exosomal miRNAs lead to HCC progression. Finally, strategies for purification and isolation of exosomes and advanced biosensing techniques for detection of exosomal miRNAs are also discussed. Overall, this comprehensive review sheds light on the complex web of exosomal miRNAs in HCC, offering valuable insights for future advancements in diagnosis, prognosis, and ultimately, improved outcomes for patients battling this deadly disease.

In this study, silver sulfide nanoparticles (Ag2SNP's) were successfully produced by using fruit extracts of Phyllanthus emblica. UV-vis, FTIR, XRD with SEM and EDX techniques were used for the synthesis process and for characterization of the resulting nanostructures. According to the findings, the fabricated nanostructure had a monoclinic crystal structure, measuring 44 nm in grain size, and its strain was 1.82 × 10-3. As revealed by SEM analysis, the synthesized nanostructure consists of irregular spherical and triangular shapes. The presence of silver (Ag) and sulfur (S) was also confirmed through EDX spectra. Furthermore, Ag2S nanoparticles were tested for their ability to effectively inhibit gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial growth. As a result of this study, it was clearly demonstrated that Ag2S nanoparticles possess powerful antibacterial properties, particularly when it came to inhibiting Escherichia coli growth. Ag2S nanoparticles had high total H2O2 and flavonoid concentrations and the greatest overall antioxidant activity, according to the evaluation of antioxidant activity of the samples. The results obtained from the P. emblica fruit extract were followed by those obtained from Ag2S nanoparticles were reported in detail. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Innovative Ag2SNP synthesis using Phyllanthus emblica fruit extract. SEM with EDX revealed a monoclinic crystal structure with a grain size of 44 nm and a strain of 1.82 × 10-3. Many of these applications are demonstrated by the potential of Ag2SNPs to treat and combat bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli. A peak at 653 cm-1 indicates the presence of primary sulfide aliphatic C-S extension vibrations. The abundant H2O2 and NO2 found in P. emblica nanocomposites make them potent antioxidants.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is currently one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Associated risk factors include, but are not limited to, cirrhosis and underlying liver diseases, including chronic hepatitis B or C infections, excessive alcohol consumption, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and exposure to chemical carcinogens. It is crucial to detect this disease early on before it metastasizes to adjoining parts of the body, worsening the prognosis. Serum biomarkers have proven to be a more accurate diagnostic tool compared to imaging. Among various markers such as nucleic acids, circulating genetic material, proteins, enzymes, and other metabolites, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a protein marker primarily used to diagnose HCC. However, current methods need a large sample and carry a high cost, among other challenges, which can be improved using biosensing technology. Early and accurate detection of AFP can prevent severe progression of the disease and ensure better management of HCC patients. This review sheds light on HCC development in the human body. Afterward, we outline various types of biosensors (optical, electrochemical, and mass-based), as well as the most relevant studies of biosensing modalities for non-invasive monitoring of AFP. The review also explains these sensing platforms, detection substrates, surface modification agents, and fluorescent probes used to develop such biosensors. Finally, the challenges and future trends in routine clinical analysis are discussed to motivate further developments.

Hepatic cancer is widely regarded as the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Despite recent advances in treatment options, the prognosis of liver cancer remains poor. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop more representative in vitro models of liver cancer for pathophysiology and drug screening studies. Fortunately, an exciting new development for generating liver models in recent years has been the advent of organoid technology. Organoid models hold huge potential as an in vitro research tool because they can recapitulate the spatial architecture of primary liver cancers and maintain the molecular and functional variations of the native tissue counterparts during long-term culture in vitro. This review provides a comprehensive overview and discussion of the establishment and application of liver organoid models in vitro. Bioengineering strategies used to construct organoid models are also discussed. In addition, the clinical potential and other relevant applications of liver organoid models in different functional states are explored. In the end, this review discusses current limitations and future prospects to encourage further development.

Introduction: Wound healing is severely compromised in patients with diabetes owing to factors such poor blood circulation, delayed immune response, elevated blood sugar levels, and neuropathy. Although the development of new wound healing products and prevention of serious complications such as infections in wounds have received substantial interest, wound healing remains a challenge in regenerative medicine. Burn wounds, especially third-degree burns, are difficult to treat because they are associated with immune and inflammatory reactions and distributive shock. Wound care and treatment that protects the burn site from infection and allows wound healing can be achieved with bioengineered wound dressings. However, few studies have reported effective dressings for third-degree burn wounds, making it important to develop new dressing materials. Methods: In this study, we developed an artificial amniotic membrane (AM) using epithelial and mesenchymal cells derived from human amnion as a novel dressing material. The artificial AM was applied to the wound of a diabetic third-degree burn model and its wound healing ability was evaluated. Results: This artificial amnion produced multiple growth factors associated with angiogenesis, fibroblast proliferation, and anti-inflammation. In addition, angiogenesis and granulation tissue formation were promoted in the artificial AM-treated mouse group compared with the control group. Furthermore, the inflammatory phase was prolonged in the control group. Conclusions: Our preliminary results indicate that the artificial AM might be useful as a new dressing for refractory ulcers and third-degree burns. This artificial AM-based material represents great potential for downstream clinical research and treatment of diabetes patients with third-degree burns.

BACKGROUND: Acute myocardial infarction may concomitantly occur with acute ischemic stroke. The prevalence, complications, and outcomes of acute ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in patients hospitalized with acute ischemic stroke are not well studied. METHODS: We examined hospitalized patients with acute ischemic stroke who were included in the National Inpatient Sample from 2016 to 2019. Acute ischemic stroke and STEMI were defined by using the International Classification of Diseases-Tenth Revision diagnostic codes. Patients with Non-STEMI were excluded. The prevalence of complications and outcomes were expressed as percentages. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association of STEMI with a primary outcome of mortality and secondary outcomes. A subgroup analysis of patients with STEMI who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention was also performed. RESULTS: Of the total (n=2 080 795) patients with acute ischemic stroke, 0.3% (n=6275; mean age, 70.5 years, 50.1% females, 69.5% White) also had STEMI diagnosed during the hospitalization. Of these, 1775 (28.3%) died in the STEMI group and 76 435 (3.7%) died in the group without STEMI. The most frequent complications in the STEMI group were acute kidney injury, intracranial hemorrhage, and ventricular arrhythmias. All secondary outcomes were associated with the diagnosis of STEMI (odds ratio [OR], 3.19 [95% CI, 2.82-3.6]; P≤0.001). STEMI was associated with mortality (OR, 8.37 [95% CI, 7.25-9.66]; P≤0.001) and intracranial hemorrhage (OR, 2.23 [95% CI, 1.84-2.70]; P≤0.001). Percutaneous coronary intervention was performed in 14.3% of STEMI subgroup patients. Percutaneous coronary intervention is not associated with mortality (OR, 0.93 [95% CI, 0.6-1.43]; P=0.7), and intracranial hemorrhage (OR, 1.54 [95% CI, 0.0.93-2.56]; P=0.1). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with acute ischemic stroke with STEMI have a higher percentage of mortality. Percutaneous coronary intervention in the subgroup of patients with acute ischemic stroke with concomitant STEMI was not associated with increased odds of mortality and intracranial hemorrhage.

Liver organoids take advantage of several important features of pluripotent stem cells that self-assemble in a three-dimensional culture matrix and reproduce many aspects of the complex organization found within their native tissue or organ counterparts. Compared to other 2D or 3D in vitro models, organoids are widely believed to be genetically stable or docile structures that can be programmed to virtually recapitulate certain biological, physiological, or pathophysiological features of original tissues or organs in vitro. Therefore, organoids can be exploited as effective substitutes or miniaturized models for the study of the developmental mechanisms of rare liver diseases, drug discovery, the accurate evaluation of personalized drug responses, and regenerative medicine applications. However, the bioengineering of organoids currently faces many groundbreaking challenges, including a need for a reasonable tissue size, structured organization, vascularization, functional maturity, and reproducibility. In this review, we outlined basic methodologies and supplements to establish organoids and summarized recent technological advances for experimental liver biology. Finally, we discussed the therapeutic applications and current limitations.

OBJECTIVE: Outcomes of cardiac arrest among patients who had cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in intensive care units (ICU) has limited data on the national level basis in the United States. We aimed to study the outcomes of ICU CPRs. METHODS: Data from the national readmissions database (NRD) sample that constitutes 49.1% of the stratified sample of all hospitals in the United States were analyzed for ICU-related hospitalizations for the years 2016 to 2019. ICU CPR was defined by procedure codes. RESULTS: A total of 4,610,154 ICU encounters were reported for the years 2016 to 2019 in the NRD. Of these patients, 426,729 (9.26%) had CPR procedure recorded during the hospital encounter (mean age 65 ± 17.81; female 42.4%). And 167,597 (39.29%) patients had CPR on the day of admission, of which 63.16% died; while 64,752 (15.18%) patients had CPR on the day of ICU admission, of which 72.85% died. And 36,002 (8.44%) had CPR among patients with length of stay 2 days, of which 73.34% died. A total of 1,222,799 (26.5%) admitted to ICU died, and patients who had ICU CPR had higher mortality, 291,391(68.3%). Higher complication rates were observed among ICU CPR patients, especially who died. Over the years from 2016 to 2019, ICU CPR rates increased from 8.18% (2016) to 8.66% (2019); p-trend = 0.001. The mortality rates among patients admitted to ICU increased from 22.1% (2016) to 24.1% (2019); p-trend = 0.005. CONCLUSION: The majority of ICU CPRs were done on the first day of ICU admission. The trend for ICU CPR was increasing. The mortality trend for overall ICU admissions has increased, which is concerning and would suggest further research to improve the high mortality rates in the CPR group.

Anastomotic leak (AL) remains a significant complication after esophagectomy. Indocyanine green fluorescent angiography (ICG-FA) is a promising and safe technique for assessing gastric conduit (GC) perfusion intraoperatively. It provides detailed visualization of tissue perfusion and has demonstrated usefulness in oesophageal surgery. GC perfusion analysis by ICG-FA is crucial in constructing the conduit and selecting the anastomotic site and enables surgeons to make necessary adjustments during surgery to potentially reduce ALs. However, anastomotic integrity involves multiple factors, and ICG-FA must be combined with optimization of patient and procedural factors to decrease AL rates. This review summarizes ICG-FA's current applications in assessing esophago-gastric anastomosis perfusion, including qualitative and quantitative analysis and different imaging systems. It also explores how fluorescent imaging could decrease ALs and aid clinicians in utilizing ICG-FA to improve esophagectomy outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Literature regarding outcomes associated with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) among amyloidosis (AM) with aortic stenosis (AS) is limited. OBJECTIVES: We aim to study the mortality and in-hospital clinical outcomes among AM with AS associated with SAVR or TAVR. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of all hospitalisation encounters associated with a diagnosis of AM with AS, using the Nationwide Readmissions Database for the years 2012-2019. Primary outcomes were in-hospital mortality, and 30-day readmissions. RESULTS: A total of 4,820 index hospitalisations of AS (mean age 78.35±10.11; female 37.76%) among AM were reported. Total 464 patients had mechanical intervention, 251 patients (54.1%) TAVR and 213 patients (45.9%) SAVR. A total of 317 patients (6.77%) with AS died; TAVR 4.4%, SAVR 11.9% (p=0.01) and 6.66% died among the subgroup who did not have any mechanical intervention. Higher complication rates were observed among patients who had SAVR than those who had TAVR including acute kidney injury (39.8% vs 22.4%; p=0.01), septic shock (12.1% vs 4.4%; p=0.05) and cardiogenic shock (22% vs 4.4%; p<0.001). Acute heart failure was higher among patients who had TAVR (40.2% vs 27.5%; p=0.04) than those who had SAVR. All conduction block and ischaemic stroke were similar between the two groups (p=0.09 and p=0.1). The overall 30-day readmission rate among AM with AS encounters was 16.82%, higher among TAVR compared to SAVR subgroups (21.25% vs 11.17%; p=0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Among AM with AS hospitalisations, TAVR had mortality benefits compared to SAVR and non-mechanical intervention subgroups. Moreover, higher 30-day mortality rate were observed among SAVR subgroup, which may suggest that TAVR should be strongly considered in AM patients complicated by AS.

Uterine leiomyosarcoma (ULC) is an uncommon neoplasm characterized by poor prognosis, it can predispose to distant metastasis, causing various symptomatic presentations. We present a unique case of a large heterogeneous mass in the lung cavity arising from a ULC, with complete absence of pulmonary symptoms and with concurrent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. A high degree of clinical suspicion is required for ULC with accompanying metastasis.

Biomaterial templates play a critical role in establishing and bioinstructing three-dimensional cellular growth, proliferation and spatial morphogenetic processes that culminate in the development of physiologically relevant in vitro liver models. Various natural and synthetic polymeric biomaterials are currently available to construct biomimetic cell culture environments to investigate hepatic cell-matrix interactions, drug response assessment, toxicity, and disease mechanisms. One specific class of natural biomaterials consists of the decellularized liver extracellular matrix (dECM) derived from xenogeneic or allogeneic sources, which is rich in bioconstituents essential for the ultrastructural stability, function, repair, and regeneration of tissues/organs. Considering the significance of the key design blueprints of organ-specific acellular substrates for physiologically active graft reconstruction, herein we showcased the latest updates in the field of liver decellularization-recellularization technologies. Overall, this review highlights the potential of acellular matrix as a promising biomaterial in light of recent advances in the preparation of liver-specific whole organ scaffolds. The review concludes with a discussion of the challenges and future prospects of liver-specific decellularized materials in the direction of translational research.

Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are important liver enzymes in clinical settings. Their levels are known to be elevated in individuals with underlying liver diseases and those consuming hepatotoxic drugs. Serum ALT and AST levels are crucial for diagnosing and assessing liver diseases. Serum ALT is considered the most reliable and specific candidate as a disease biomarker for liver diseases. ALT and AST levels are routinely analyzed in high-risk individuals for the bioanalysis of both liver function and complications associated with drug-induced liver injury. Typically, ALT and AST require blood sampling, serum separation, and testing. Traditional methods require expensive or sophisticated equipment and trained specialists, which is often time-consuming. Therefore, developing countries have limited or no access to these methods. To address the above issues, we hypothesize that low-cost biosensing methods (paper-based assays) can be applied to the analysis of ALT and AST levels in biological fluids. The paper-based biodetection technique can semi-quantitatively measure ALT and AST from capillary finger sticks, and it will pave the way for the development of an inexpensive and rapid alternative method for the early detection and diagnosis of liver diseases. This method is expected to significantly reduce the economic burden and aid routine clinical analysis in both developed and underdeveloped countries. The development of low-cost testing platforms and their diagnostic utility will be extremely beneficial in helping millions of patients with liver disorders.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is a well-established treatment for hematologic malignancies and certain autoimmune and congenital conditions. HSCT is associated with immunocompromise and increased risk of infections. This study assessed whether invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) affects in-hospital mortality and 30-day readmission among HSCT patients. A secondary objective was to examine potential differences in complications between HSCT with and without IPA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study of a nationally representative cohort of hospital admissions was conducted, with data collected from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Nationwide Readmissions Database between 2013 and 2019. The International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10), and 9th revision (ICD-9) diagnostic codes were used to identify patients with IPA and HSCT. All adult patients ≥18 years were included in the study. RESULTS: There were 90,451 hospitalizations for HSCT from 2013 to 2019; 89,331 (98.8%) had HSCT without IPA, while 1092 (1.2%) hospitalizations had HSCT with IPA. The in-hospital mortality for HSCT-IPA was higher compared to HSCT without IPA (18.3% vs. 4.2%; p < 0.001). HSCT-IPA had a significantly higher 30-day readmission rate (36.2%) than that of HSCT without IPA (24.0%). HSCT-IPA also had a higher mean cost of admission ($303,437) than that of HSCT without IPA ($57,587).The HSCT-IPA group had higher multi-organ complications, including respiratory failure (51.3% vs. 13.5%, p < 0.001), sepsis (38.2% vs. 18.5%, p < 0.001), septic shock (16.1% vs. 5.1%, p < 0.001), need for mechanical ventilation (21.1% vs. 5.1% p < 0.001), non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (4.9% vs. 2.5%, p < 0.001), and intensive-care unit admission (21.8% vs. 6.1% p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: IPA is a rare but severe complication associated with HSCT, with higher in-hospital mortality, complications due to multi-organ failure, readmission rates, and cost of hospitalization when compared to HSCT without IPA.

Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed of all cancers and one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among men and women worldwide, causing 1.5 million deaths every year. Despite developments in cancer treatment technologies and new pharmaceutical products, high mortality and morbidity remain major challenges for researchers. More than 75% of lung cancer patients are diagnosed in advanced stages, leading to poor prognosis. Lung cancer is a multistep process associated with genetic and epigenetic abnormalities. Rapid, accurate, precise, and reliable detection of lung cancer biomarkers in biological fluids is essential for risk assessment for a given individual and mortality reduction. Traditional diagnostic tools are not sensitive enough to detect and diagnose lung cancer in the early stages. Therefore, the development of novel bioanalytical methods for early-stage screening and diagnosis is extremely important. Recently, biosensors have gained tremendous attention as an alternative to conventional methods because of their robustness, high sensitivity, inexpensiveness, and easy handling and deployment in point-of-care testing. This review provides an overview of the conventional methods currently used for lung cancer screening, classification, diagnosis, and prognosis, providing updates on research and developments in biosensor technology for the detection of lung cancer biomarkers in biological samples. Finally, it comments on recent advances and potential future challenges in the field of biosensors in the context of lung cancer diagnosis and point-of-care applications.

Background: Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) has proved to be a safer alternative for long-term anticoagulation; however, patients with a history of intracranial bleeding were excluded from large randomized clinical trials. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine outcomes in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with a history of intracranial bleeding undergoing percutaneous LAAO. Methods: National Inpatient Sample and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, codes were used to identify patients with AF who underwent LAAO during the years 2016-2020. Patients were stratified based on a history of intracranial bleeding vs not. The outcomes assessed in our study included complications, in-hospital mortality, and resource utilization. Result: A total of 89,300 LAAO device implantations were studied. Approximately 565 implantations (0.6%) occurred in patients with a history of intracranial bleed. History of intracranial bleeding was associated with a higher prevalence of overall complications and in-patient mortality in crude analysis. In the multivariate model adjusted for potential confounders, intracranial bleeding was found to be independently associated with in-patient mortality (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 4.27; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.68-10.82); overall complications (aOR 1.74; 95% CI 1.36-2.24); prolonged length of stay (aOR 2.38; 95% CI 1.95-2.92); and increased cost of hospitalization (aOR 1.28; 95% CI 1.08-1.52) after percutaneous LAAO device implantation. Conclusion: A history of intracranial bleeding was associated with adverse outcomes after percutaneous LAAO. These data, if proven in a large randomized study, can have important clinical consequences in terms of patient selection for LAAO devices.

BACKGROUND: Pemafibrate is a novel fibrate class drug that is a highly potent and selective agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα). We performed the first ever network meta-analysis containing the largest ever group of patients to test the efficacy of pemafibrate in improving lipid levels compared with fenofibrate and placebo in patients with dyslipidemia. METHODS: Potentially relevant clinical trials were identified in Medline, PubMed, Embase, clinicaltrials.gov, and Cochrane Controlled Trials registry. Nine randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria out of 40 potentially available articles. The primary effect outcome was a change in the levels of triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoproteins (HDL), or low-density lipoproteins (LDL) before and after the treatment. RESULTS: A total of 12,359 subjects were included. The mean patient age was 54.73 (years), the mean ratio for female patients was 18.75%, and the mean examination period was 14.22 weeks. The dose for pemafibrate included in our study was 0.1, 0.2, or 0.4 mg twice daily, whereas the dose for fenofibrate was 100 mg/day. Data showed a significant reduction in TG and a mild increase in HDL levels across the pemafibrate group at different doses and fenofibrate 100 mg group (with greatest effect observed with pemafibrate 0.1 mg twice daily). A mild increase in LDL was also observed in all groups, but the increase in LDL in the 0.1 mg twice daily dose group was statistically insignificant. CONCLUSION: Pemafibrate 0.1 mg twice daily dose led to highest reduction in TG levels and the highest increase in HDL levels compared with other doses of pemafibrate, fenofibrate, and placebo.

RESUMO

The ideal diagnostic modality for acute chest pain is a highly debated topic in the cardiovascular community. With the rapid rise of coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) and the fall of functional testing, stress echocardiography (SE) is at a delicate crossroads. Though there are many advantages of coronary CTA, it is not without its flaws. The exact realm of SE needs to be clearly defined, as well as which patients need diagnostic testing. The emergence of additional parameters will propel the evolution of modern SE. In this review article, we explore the role of SE, guidelines, comparison of SE versus CTA, and additional parameters in the coronary CTA era.

Calcific aortic valve stenosis (CAS), the most prevalent valvular disease worldwide, has been demonstrated to frequently occur in conjunction with coronary artery disease (CAD), the third leading cause of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis has been proven to be the main mechanism involved in CAS and CAD. Evidence also exists that obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (among others), along with specific genes involved in lipid metabolism, are important risk factors for CAS and CAD, leading to common pathological processes of atherosclerosis in both diseases. Therefore, it has been suggested that CAS could also be used as a marker of CAD. An understanding of the commonalities between the two conditions may improve therapeutic strategies for treating both CAD and CAS. This review explores the common pathogenesis and disparities between CAS and CAD, alongside their etiology. It also discusses clinical implications and provides evidence-based recommendations for the clinical management of both diseases.

Abnormal levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in human serum are the most sensitive indicator of hepatocellular damage. Because liver-related health problems are directly linked to elevated levels of ALT and AST, it is important to develop accurate and rapid methods to detect these enzymes for the early diagnosis of liver disease and prevention of long-term liver damage. Several analytical methods have been developed for the detection of ALT and AST. However, these methods are based on complex mechanisms and require bulky instruments and laboratories, making them unsuitable for point-of-care application or in-house testing. Lateral flow assay (LFA)-based biosensors, on the other hand, provide rapid, accurate, and reliable results, are easy to operate, and are affordable for low-income populations. However, due to the storage, stability, batch-to-batch variations, and error margins, antibody-based LFAs are considered unaffordable for field applications. In this hypothesis, we propose the selection of aptamers with high affinity and specificity for the liver biomarkers ALT and AST to build an efficient LFA device for point-of-care applications. Though the aptamer-based LFA would be semiquantitative for ALT and AST, it would be an inexpensive option for the early detection and diagnosis of liver disease. Aptamer-based LFA is anticipated to minimize the economic burden. It can also be used for routine liver function tests regardless of the economic situation in each country. By developing a low-cost testing platform, millions of patients suffering from liver disease can be saved.
