RESUMO

JOURNAL/nrgr/04.03/01300535-202508000-00029/figure1/v/2024-09-30T120553Z/r/image-tiff Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system, including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic nerve. Still, it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective properties. Olfactory ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor, one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion cells. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve crush. Olfactory ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line, TEG3, were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive treatments. Anatomical and gene expression analyses were performed. Olfactory bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex class II molecules. Allogeneically and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days, forming an epimembrane. In axotomized retinas, only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 days. In these retinas, microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush alone. In intact retinas, both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days, a loss that was higher after allotransplantation, triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or immunosuppression. However, neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these treatments. The different neuroprotective properties, different toxic effects, and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The actions required to achieve higher-quality and harmonised global surveillance of child and adolescent movement behaviours (physical activity, sedentary behaviour including screen time, sleep) are unclear. OBJECTIVE: To identify how to improve surveillance of movement behaviours, from the perspective of experts. METHODS: This Delphi Study involved 62 experts from the SUNRISE International Study of Movement Behaviours in the Early Years and Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA). Two survey rounds were used, with items categorised under: (1) funding, (2) capacity building, (3) methods, and (4) other issues (e.g., policymaker awareness of relevant WHO Guidelines and Strategies). Expert participants ranked 40 items on a five-point Likert scale from 'extremely' to 'not at all' important. Consensus was defined as > 70% rating of 'extremely' or 'very' important. RESULTS: We received 62 responses to round 1 of the survey and 59 to round 2. There was consensus for most items. The two highest rated round 2 items in each category were the following; for funding (1) it was greater funding for surveillance and public funding of surveillance; for capacity building (2) it was increased human capacity for surveillance (e.g. knowledge, skills) and regional or global partnerships to support national surveillance; for methods (3) it was standard protocols for surveillance measures and improved measurement method for screen time; and for other issues (4) it was greater awareness of physical activity guidelines and strategies from WHO and greater awareness of the importance of surveillance for NCD prevention. We generally found no significant differences in priorities between low-middle-income (n = 29) and high-income countries (n = 30) or between SUNRISE (n = 20), AHKGA (n = 26) or both (n = 13) initiatives. There was a lack of agreement on using private funding for surveillance or surveillance research. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a prioritised and international consensus list of actions required to improve surveillance of movement behaviours in children and adolescents globally.

RESUMO

Mutations in SYNGAP1, a protein enriched at glutamatergic synapses, cause intellectual disability associated with epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder and sensory dysfunctions. Several studies showed that Syngap1 regulates the time course of forebrain glutamatergic synapse maturation; however, the developmental role of Syngap1 in inhibitory GABAergic neurons is less clear. GABAergic neurons can be classified into different subtypes based on their morphology, connectivity and physiological properties. Whether Syngap1 expression specifically in Parvalbumin (PV) and Somatostatin (SST)-expressing interneurons, which are derived from the medial ganglionic eminence, plays a role in the emergence of distinct brain functions remains largely unknown. We used genetic strategies to generate Syngap1 haploinsufficiency in a) prenatal interneurons derived from the medial ganglionic eminence, b) in postnatal PV cells and c) in prenatal SST interneurons. We further performed in vivo recordings and behavioral assays to test whether and how these different genetic manipulations alter brain function and behavior in mice of either sex.Mice with prenatal-onset Syngap1 haploinsufficiency restricted to Nkx2.1-expressing neurons show abnormal cortical oscillations and increased entrainment induced by 40Hz auditory stimulation, but lack of stimulus-specific adaptation. This latter phenotype was reproduced in mice with Syngap1 haploinsufficiency restricted to PV, but not SST, interneurons. Prenatal-onset Syngap1 haploinsufficiency in Nkx2.1-expressing neurons led to impaired social behavior and inability to extinguish fear memories; however, neither postnatal PV- nor prenatal SST-specific mutant mice show these phenotypes. We speculate that Syngap1 haploinsufficiency in prenatal/perinatal PV interneurons may contribute to cortical activity and cognitive alterations associated with Syngap1 mutations.Significance statement Mutations in the human gene cause a form of developmental epileptic encephalopathy associated with intellectual disability, autism and sensory dysfunctions. Several studies have shown that in addition to playing a major role in the synaptic maturation and plasticity of forebrain excitatory neurons, Syngap1 affects GABAergic circuit function as well. Forebrain GABAergic neurons can be divided into different subtypes. Whether Syngap1 expression specifically in distinct interneuron populations and during specific developmental time windows plays a role in the emergence of distinct brain functions remains largely unknown. Here, we report that early, pre or perinatal Syngap1 expression in developing GABAergic neurons derived from the medial ganglionic eminence promotes the development of auditory cortex function, social behavior and ability to extinguish fear memories.

RESUMO

Introduction Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a systemic disease characterized by skeletal muscle dysfunction, leading to increased morbidity and mortality and deteriorating quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation therapy improves symptoms and long-term adherence. This study aimed to evaluate how COPD patients respond to pulmonary rehabilitation therapy and its correlation with handgrip strength measurements. Materials and methods A prospective cohort study was conducted in patients over 45 years old with a spirometric diagnosis of COPD from a specialized reference center in Bucaramanga. Handgrip strength was measured before and after completing the pulmonary rehabilitation program. Patients with neurological or cognitive impairments, decompensated cardiovascular disease, nutritional diseases, or those in a telerehabilitation program were excluded. Results Seventy-one patients were included in the study, with 66.2% completing follow-up after the program. The average age was 73.38 years (SD ±7.77), 53.52% were women, and 60.56% had a history of smoking. After the follow-up, the average handgrip strength delta was 1.64 kg (SD ±3.48) p<0.001, 74.47% of them representing a positive result after pulmonary rehabilitation program. A higher Charlson index correlated with a positive delta, while a negative delta correlated with a lower Charlson index (p=0.01). A positive handgrip strength delta was associated with higher baseline quality of life scores. Conclusions Periodic handgrip strength measurements predict frailty and muscle dysfunction in COPD patients. Pulmonary rehabilitation therapy is a simple and cost-effective intervention that correlates with the improvement of indirect prognosis and survival indicators.

RESUMO

Background: Carers of people with Alzheimer's disease often have a high degree of commitment and dedication which may also compromise physical and emotional, leisure, and occupational self-care. This study aimed to explore health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychoemotional variables in caregivers with and without caregiver overload and its relationship. Methods: A single-measure cross-sectional correlational study was carried out involving 59 informal caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease with a mean age of 59.30 (±10.58). The participants completed the adult HRQoL questionnaires (EQ-5D-3L), Zarit Burden Inventory test, General Happiness Questionnaire, Satisfaction with Life Scale, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ-E), International Fitness Scale (IFIS), Family Apgar scale, and Duke-UNC-11 Functional Social Support Questionnaire. Results: A significantly higher level of HRQoL (p = 0.029) in subjective happiness (p = 0.018), perceived social support (p = 0.046), avoidance (p = 0.034), occupational balance (p = 0.002), life satisfaction (p = 0.037), and self-perceived physical fitness (p = 0.021) was found in caregivers without perceived overload. Also, HRQoL was directly associated with self-perceived physical fitness (ß = 0.534; p < 0.001) and occupational balance (ß = 0.375; p < 0.001) and self-esteem (ß = 0.249; p < 0.016). Conclusions: Caregivers who do not perceive overload have better levels of HRQoL and psychoemotional variables, establishing a relationship between HRQoL with self-perceived physical fitness, occupational balance, and self-esteem.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Smoking is a Public Health problem. Half of all women smokers continue to smoke during pregnancy, putting their health and that of their foetus at risk. The aim of this review was to synthesise the main studies on the prevalence and sociodemographic, psychological and obstetric profile of women who smoke during pregnancy, the relationship of stress, personality and depression with smoking during pregnancy and the most effective treatments. METHODS: We conducted a literature review in the MEDLINE and PsycInfo databases from 2013 to 2023 on the most relevant aspects of smoking in pregnancy, including thirty studies. RESULTS: The prevalence of smoking in pregnancy is 15.7% in Spain. The socio-demographic profile of women who smoke during pregnancy is that of women with a low socioeconomic and educational level, generally without a partner or with partners who smoke and are unemployed. A relationship had been found between smoking in pregnancy and a higher probability of suffering from perinatal depression. High self-perceived stress may be a predictor variable for continued smoking in pregnancy. Personality traits such as high neuroticism appear to be related to smoking in pregnancy. Intervention to help pregnant women quit smoking must be tailored to the profile of the pregnant woman to be effective. Cognitive behavioural interventions show efficacy, especially in the long term. CONCLUSIONS: In order to design effective prevention and intervention programmes to help pregnant women quit smoking, not only the socio-demographic profile of the pregnant women should be taken into account, but also psychological variables such as personality and stress. These programmes should include cognitive behavioural interventions that teach adaptive stress management strategies to maximise their effectiveness. Special emphasis should be placed on reaching those women with the most disadvantaged profiles.

PURPOSE: This pilot study aimed to assess the relationship between bite force variation and dental arch and facial shape using geometric morphometrics, an advanced method of statistical analysis that provides a detailed shape analysis of a structure considering the spatial relationship of its parts. METHODS: The sample consisted of 16 German adult men and women. For each individual, maximum bite force was recorded in four positions: maximum intercuspation, protrusion, laterotrusion to the right and to the left. Facial and three-dimensional (3D) dental reconstructions were obtained from 3D facial photographs and 3D scans of dental stone models. A total of 51 landmarks were placed. General shape variation was assessed by principal component analysis. Partial least squares analyses were performed to evaluate the covariation between bite force, facial shape, and dental shape. RESULTS: There was no clear pattern or statistically significant covariation between our variables. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest a weak relationship between bite force, dental arch, and facial shape. Considering previous work in this field, we propose that low masticatory loads, characteristic in Western urban populations, may explain this. Further studies should, therefore, address this issue, taking into account effect size, the mechanical properties of the diet, and other relevant variables.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of COVID-19 represents the most significant health crisis in recent history. Incidence and mortality rates depend on several factors. Many studies have focused on investigating which characteristics could be strongly related to higher mortality and lethality. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze the variables associated with in-hospital mortality among patients admitted in a reference northeastern region of a Colombian institution. METHODS: An ambidirectional cohort, single-center study was carried out in a reference hospital in northeastern Colombia. All patients admitted to the Fundación Oftalmológica de Santander (FOSCAL) between March 2020 and September 2021, with COVID-19 real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive test, were included. RESULTS: A total of 3,028 patients were included, of whom 2,034 (67.8%) survived and 994 (32.8%) died during their hospital stay; 48.8% (1,479) of the patients were female. The most common comorbidities were hypertension (1,236 patients, 40.8%), obesity (body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30; 656 patients, 21.6%), and diabetes (618 patients, 20.4%). The average age of the surviving patients was 52.2 years, while for the deceased patients, it was 70.3 years. The variables that showed significant association with in-hospital mortality were as follows: male sex ≥ 45 years, dyspnea, oxygen saturation (SatO2) < 85%, hypertension, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and a Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) score of >1. CONCLUSIONS: Male sex, age ≥ 45 years, dyspnea, SatO2 < 85%, hypertension, CKD, and a CCI score of >1 were associated with a higher risk of in-hospital mortality in COVID-19-infected patients.

RESUMO

The insulin-like growth factor-2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1), a member of a conserved family of single-stranded RNA-binding proteins (IGF2BP1-3), is expressed in a broad range of fetal tissues, placenta and more than sixteen cancer types but only in a limited number of normal adult tissues. IGF2BP1is required for the transport from nucleus to cytoplasm of certain mRNAs that play essential roles in embryogenesis, carcinogenesis, and multidrug resistance (MDR), by affecting their stability, translation, or localization. The purpose of this review is to gather and present information on MDR mechanisms in cancer and the significance of IGF2BP1 in this context. Within this review, we will provide an overview of IGF2BP1, including its tissue distribution, expression, molecular targets in the context of tumorigenesis and its inhibitors. Our main focus will be on elucidating the interplay between IGF2BP1 and MDR, particularly with regard to chemoresistance mediated by ABC transporters.

RESUMO

Domestic pigs serve as significant hosts and reservoirs for multiple parasite species, some specific to pigs and many others of zoonotic importance. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of intestinal parasites in pigs within a rural area in northeastern Argentina. We also examined demographic information, breeding conditions, and exposure factors associated with parasite presence. Pig feces were subjected to coprological examination through flotation and sedimentation techniques. Modified Ziehl-Neelsen technique was employed to examine oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. In total, 29 family farms with pig pens were analyzed, and 42 stool samples were collected from pigs on these farms. At the farm level, the presence of at least one parasite species was recorded in 27 rural houses (93.1%). We found that 90.4% of pigs were parasitized, with a specific parasitoses of 10 species, with a maximum of six species in a single host. The most prevalent protozoa were Entamoeba spp. (57.1%) and Blastocystis sp. (45.2%), followed by Iodamoeba butschlii (33.3%), Neobalantidium coli (21.4%), coccidia (14.2%), Cryptosporidium spp. (9.5%) and Giardia spp. (2.3%). The most prevalent helminths were Strongylidae eggs (52.3%), Ascaris spp. (14.2%) and Trichuris spp. (2.3%). We advocate for an urgent need to implement a comprehensive prophylaxis program prioritizing general hygiene practices such as regular cleaning, removal of fecal material and renewal of drinking water. Additionally, vaccination and deworming protocols should be implemented. Furthermore, this study highlights the necessity for molecular-level evaluations to detect potential zoonotic genotypes of the identified protozoa.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study factors associated with hospitalization in an unselected population of patients aged 65 years or older treated for syncope in Spanish hospital emergency departments (EDs). To determine the prevalence of adverse events at 30 days in patients discharged home and the factors associated with such events. METHODS: We included all patients aged 65 years or older who were diagnosed with syncope during a single week in 52 Spanish EDs, recording patient clinical and ED case management data. We compared the findings between hospitalized patients and those discharged home, following the latter for 30 days. In discharged patients, we explored predictors of a composite adverse-event outcome (occurrence of any of the following: ED revisits, hospitalization related to the index visit, or any-cause death). RESULTS: A total of 477 patients with syncope were identified; 67 (14%) were admitted, and 5 (7.5%) died. The median (interquartile range) length of hospital stay was 6 days (3-11 days). Comorbidity increased the probability of hospitalization (odds ratio, 2.172; 95% CI, 1.013-4.655). Among the 410 patients (86%) discharged home from the ED, 9.2% experienced an adverse event within 30 days (ED revisits, 8.,1%; hospitalization, 2.2%; death, 1.5%). No factors were associated with the 30-day composite outcome. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients aged 65 years or older are discharged home from EDs, and 30-day adverse events, while infrequent, are difficult to predict. Hospitalization was related to comorbidity and an absence of cognitive decline.

Antioxidant supplementation in critical periods may be useful for improvement of piglet early viability and development. We have evaluated the effects of maternal perinatal diet inclusion of a high vitamin E level (VE, 100 mg all-rac-α-tocopheryl acetate /kg), hydroxytyrosol (HT, 1.5 mg/kg), or their combination (VEHT), in comparison to a control diet (C, 30 mg all-rac-α-tocopheryl acetate /kg), on the offspring homeostasis and metabolism, analysing the weaned piglets' adipose tissue transcriptome and adipocyte morphology. Diets were provided to pregnant Iberian sows (n = 48, 12 per treatment) from gestation day 85 to weaning (28 days postpartum) and 48 piglets (n = 12 per treatment) were sampled 5 days postweaning for dorsal subcutaneous adipose tissue analyses. RNA obtained from 6 animals for each diet was used for paired-end RNA sequencing. Results show that supplementation of sows' diet with either vitamin E or hydroxytyrosol had substantial effects on weaned piglet adipose transcriptome, with 664 and 587 genes being differentially expressed, in comparison to C, respectively (q-value<0.10, Fold Change>1.5). Genes upregulated in C were mainly involved in inflammatory and immune response, as well as oxidative stress, and relevant canonical pathways and upstream regulators involved in these processes were predicted as activated, such as TNF, IFNB or NFKB. Vitamin E, when supplemented alone at high dose, activated lipid biosynthesis functions, pathways and regulators, this finding being accompanied by increased adipocyte size. Results suggest an improved metabolic and antioxidant status of adipose tissue in animals born from sows supplemented with individual antioxidants, while the combined supplementation barely affected gene expression, with VEHT showing a prooxidant/proinflamatory functional profile similar to C animals. Different hypothesis are proposed to explain this unexpected result. Findings allow a deeper understanding of the processes taking place in adipose tissue of genetically fat animals and the role of antioxidants in the regulation of fat cells function.

RESUMO

Psychosocial stress may alter cortisol and/or affect the normal functioning of the immune system. Curcuminoids can promote beneficial effects in neuropsychiatric diseases. We evaluated whether curcumin supplementation for 15 consecutive days (1800 mg/day) would decrease systemic MCP-1, sCD14, and TNF alpha levels in patients with moderate anxiety (n = 81). A total number of 81 subjects were enrolled in this study, divided into the following groups according to their Hamilton scores: a control group including patients without anxiety who were not taking curcumin (Cont, n = 22) and an anxiety group including patients with moderate anxiety (Anx, n = 22). The curcumin-treated patients experienced moderate anxiety, and they take curcumin for 15 consecutive days (Anx-Cur (after), n = 15, 1800 mg/day). An evaluation of 128 patients was conducted, which allowed for their assignment to the study groups according to their scores on Hamilton scale II. The cortisol levels were quantified in salivary samples through ELISA (ng/mL), and malonaldehyde (MDA) levels were measured in plasma via the TBARS assay as an index of lipoperoxidation. Several systemic proinflammatory cytokines (pg/mL: MCP-1, TNF alpha, IL-1 beta) and mediators were quantified through ELISA (pg/mL), including systemic sCD14 levels as a marker of monocyte activation. A two-way bifactorial ANOVA was conducted to evaluate the contributions of the anxiety factor (Anx) and/or curcumin factor (Cur) in all the tested markers, including interactions between both factors. High systemic MCP-1 and elevated sCD14 levels were observed in patients with moderate anxiety, which were reduced with curcumin supplementation. In addition, curcumin prevented cortisol overexpression and decreased MDA levels as an antioxidant response in these patients. Collectively, curcumin presented anti-chemotactic effects by reducing systemic MCP-1 levels in anxiety. Curcumin decreased systemic MCP-1 as well as sCD14 levels in patients with moderate anxiety.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: High-grade complex karyotype sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors with a uniformly poor prognosis. Within complex karyotype sarcomas, there are innumerable genetic changes but identifying those that are clinically relevant has been challenging. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: To address this, we utilized a pooled genetic screening approach, informed by The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data, to identify key drivers and modifiers of sarcoma development that were validated in vivo. RESULTS: YAP1 and wild-type KRAS were validated as drivers and transformed human mesenchymal stem cells into two distinct sarcoma subtypes, undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma and myxofibrosarcoma, respectively. A subset of tumors driven by CDK4 and PIK3CA reflected leiomyosarcoma and osteosarcoma demonstrating the plasticity of this approach and the potential to investigate sarcoma subtype heterogeneity. All generated tumors histologically reflected human sarcomas and had increased aneuploidy as compared to simple karyotype sarcomas. Comparing differential gene expression of TCGA samples to model data identified increased oxidative phosphorylation signaling in YAP1 tumors. Treatment of a panel of soft tissue sarcomas with a combination of YAP1 and oxidative phosphorylation inhibitors led to significantly decreased viability. CONCLUSIONS: Transcriptional co-analysis of TCGA patient samples to YAP1 and KRAS model tumors supports that these sarcoma subtypes lie along a spectrum of disease and adds guidance for further transcriptome-based refinement of sarcoma subtyping. This approach can be used to begin to understand pathways and mechanisms driving human sarcoma development, the relationship between sarcoma subtypes, and to identify and validate new therapeutic vulnerabilities for this aggressive and heterogeneous disease.

RESUMO

(1) Background: A low socioeconomic status significantly increases the risk of hypertension and its associated cardiovascular diseases due to limited access to healthcare and may be even more accentuated by the presence of unhealthy lifestyle habits. The aim of the present research was to study if associations exist between having a family income under the poverty threshold and having an unhealthy diet, being physically inactive, being an alcohol drinker, perceiving one's own health as bad, and suffering from congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, heart attack, or stroke. Additionally, the odds ratios of having these unhealthy habits and of suffering from the abovementioned cardiac complications of participants under the poverty threshold were calculated. (2) Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2020. The sample comprised 6120 adults with hypertension (3188 males and 2932 females). A descriptive analysis and non-parametric chi-squared tests were used to study the associations. A binary logistic regression model and backward LR method were used to calculate the odds ratios, normalized by age and sex. (3) Results: The chi-squared test showed associations between having a family income under the poverty threshold and being physically inactive (p < 0.001), having an unhealthy diet (p < 0.001), being an alcohol drinker (p < 0.001), perceiving one's own health as bad (p < 0.001), and suffering from congestive heart failure (p = 0.002), heart attack (p = 0.001), or stroke (p = 0.02). A significantly increased odds ratio for these unhealthy habits and cardiac complications, and also for having coronary heart disease and angina pectoris, were found for hypertension sufferers under the poverty threshold. (4) Conclusions: It was confirmed that having a family income under the poverty threshold is associated with perceiving one's own health as bad, having a series of negative habits in terms of physical activity, diet, and alcohol consumption, and with suffering from congestive heart failure, heart attack, or stroke. Increased odds ratios for these unhealthy habits and these conditions, plus coronary heart disease and angina pectoris, were found for hypertension sufferers under the poverty threshold.

RESUMO

The proportion of aged populations is increasing worldwide. Exercise has a palliating effect on some adverse implications of aging. Multicomponent training (MCT) is a recommended form of exercise for the aged population. The aims of this research were to (1) study the number of publications regarding MCT in the aged population following an exponential growth rate; (2) identify the journals, authors, and countries that stand out the most in this area; and (3) describe the most common themes and used keywords in this field. The analysis was performed through the traditional laws of bibliometrics, including, Price's, Lotka's, Bradford's, and Zipf's law. All documents published in journals indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection from 2001 to November 2023 that met the inclusion criteria were included. The 485 documents included in this review revealed that the number of annual publications experienced an exponential growth phase, 15 journals with six or more publications formed the core journals on this topic, and the author Mikel Izquierdo and his collaborative network topped the lists of prominent and prolific co-authors. Spain was the leading country in number of publications. Various thematic lines and keywords regarding strength, sarcopenia, quality of life, falls, balance, dual-task exercise, and cognitive and physical functioning were identified. In conclusion, this work confirmed that research on this topic is going through an exponential growth phase and provided detailed information about the journals, authors, and countries involved in the subject, as well as the keywords most frequently used in the subject matter.

RESUMO

Introduction: While there is agreement on the positive link between psychological resilience and athletic performance, conclusive findings regarding the association between psychological resilience and other variables of interest (for example, age, gender, type of sport, or competitive level) remain elusive. Objective: The study aimed to assess psychological resilience levels among judokas and explore potential associations with demographic factors, judo experience and competitive level. Methods: A total of 702 judokas (469 men and 233 women) participated in the study, of whom 194 (27.6%) were classified as TOP by their competitive level. Psychological resilience was evaluated using the Spanish version of the 10 item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 10), with a score range from 0 to 40. Independent T-test and Pearson's coefficient were used for bivariate analysis. A two-way non-parametric ANCOVA was carried out to analyse the impact of gender and competitive level on psychological resilience. Results: The judokas showed total mean scores in the CD-RISC 10 of 33.08 points (SD = 4.79), considered high. Levels of psychological resilience were significantly higher among men (33.36 ± 4.76) than women (32.53 ± 4.80) and were positively correlated with age and number of years practicing and competing in Judo (p = 0.019). Judokas with a higher competitive level (TOP judokas) showed significantly higher levels of resilience than the others (non-TOP judokas) (p < 0.001). These differences in resilience according to competitive level persisted, among both men and women, when adjusting the model of analysis (two-way ANCOVA) for all variables considered in the study, although with a small effect size. Conclusion: The results suggest that the practice of Judo, especially over long periods of time, is associated with high scores in psychological resilience. Furthermore, psychological resilience appears to be a differentiating variable among judokas at a high-competitive level, and its evaluation and development using different strategies based on age and gender should be considered by trainers and psychologists.

RESUMO

The autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) encompasses various autoimmune conditions triggered by exposure to substances with adjuvant activity. Despite its potential relevance to public health, global scientific production on ASIA syndrome is significantly limited. This knowledge gap underscores the need for a comprehensive bibliometric assessment to understand global research in this field. Therefore, this article aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis to identify and evaluate research trends related to ASIA syndrome worldwide. A Scopus search identified scientific documents published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 2,133 articles meeting inclusion criteria were selected and analyzed for scientific production, authors, and institutions. Two-hundred fifty six documents were analyzed, mostly journal articles with multiple authors. The year with the highest publications was 2023, marking a notable increase since 2021. Italy and Israel had the most documents and citations, correlating with authors Yehuda Shoenfeld (Israel) and Carlo Perricone (Italy). Standout journals are "The Journal of Immunologic Research" and "Lupus." Relevant affiliations include Tel-Aviv University and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. This article identifies and analyzes scientific trends associated with ASIA syndrome. Despite increased publications, this field remains controversial and lacks full acceptance within the medical and scientific community, as evidenced by limited scientific production compared to other pathologies. These findings may motivate researchers to generate impactful publications, contributing to the global knowledge expansion on this syndrome.
