RESUMO

Background: Trypoxylon Latreille, 1796 (Hymenoptera, Crabronidae) consists of 633 known species worldwide and the genus is divided into numerous species groups. In Vietnam, 19 species of Trypoxylon have been recorded to date. In this study, a new species, Trypoxylonsicklum Pham and Antropov sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Vinh Phuc Province, Vietnam. The new species is the second member of the Trypoxylonfulvocollare species group. A key to species in the Trypoxylonfulvocollaris group is presented. New information: Trypoxylonsicklum Pham and Antropov sp. nov., is described as a new species and is the second member of the Trypoxylonfulvocollare species group. A key to species in the Trypoxylonfulvocollaris group is presented.

RESUMO

The male of Okinawepipona yty Nguyen, 2018 is described and illustrated for the first time, together with its genitalia, based on specimens from Y Ty, Lao Cai, Vietnam. In addition, the male genitalia of O. curcipunctura Nguyen & Xu, 2014 is also described for the first time. Based on these descriptions, a discussion is provided regarding the male genitalia of eumenine wasps in general.

RESUMO

Introduction: Endogenous endophthalmitis-related Klebsiella pyogenic liver abscess is a rare complication of metastatic infection. In most cases, visual acuity results are often impaired, even blind, and even with aggressive treatment with topical antibiotics, the final results are unsatisfactory. The objective of this study is to retrospectively based on medical records to describe clinical features, risk factors, and visual outcomes of patients with endogenous endophthalmitis-related pyogenic liver abscesses. Methods: We reported a case series of 12 endogenous endophthalmitis-related pyogenic liver abscess patients from March 2021 to 2023. All cases of endogenous endophthalmitis were diagnosed at admission or during the hospital stay. Results: From the medical records of 588 pyogenic liver abscess patients, we found 12 cases of endogenous endophthalmitis with 2.0%. The result showed a mean age of 61.5 ± 12.0 (41-78), diabetes mellitus (7 of 12), right lobe (7 of 12), single abscess (9 of 12), and the mean largest abscess diameter of 5.8 ± 1.7 cm (3.3-9). All patients had ocular symptoms such as eye pain (9 of 12), pus discharge (3 of 12), hypopyon (1 of 12), swollen eyelids (2 of 12), and corneal edema (2 of 12), pyogenic liver abscess before endogenous endophthalmitis (10 of 12), the median interval between endogenous endophthalmitis and pyogenic liver abscess 6.1 ± 1.9 days, ocular symptoms before diagnosis endogenous endophthalmitis 4.4 ± 2.3 days. All affected eyes were injected intravitreously with ceftazidime, amikacin, and vancomycin. Two patients underwent evisceration. Conclusions: Endogenous endophthalmitis has permanent morbidity, reducing visual acuity, poor quality of life, and lacks the warning signs, so it is essential for early detection of symptoms and referral to ophthalmologists.

RESUMO

<b>Background and Objective:</b> Isolation and investigation of plant growth promoting bacteria on potato plants can provide significant information for the application of beneficial bacteria in potato production. This study aims to isolate and characterize endophytic bacteria isolated from potato roots. In addition, the potential application of endophytes in promoting potato growth under <i>in vitro</i> conditions was also investigated. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> The roots from 15 healthy potato plants were excised and surface sterilized by NaOCl and finally rinsed by sterilized water. The confirmed surface-sterilized roots were then aseptically cut into small fragments and spread onto the isolation media, followed by incubation at 27°C for up to 3 days. Six isolates that showed differences in colony morphology were selected for further investigation. All isolates were screened for IAA production, nitrogen fixation, and phosphate solubilization. <b>Results:</b> Five of the isolates were identified as <i>Bacillus</i> and isolate 30 was identified as <i>Paenibacillus alvei</i>. All isolates exhibited good IAA production. While Iso-27 had no nitrogen fixation activity, Iso-28 showed the highest level of nitrogen fixation activity (3.59 mg L1), four isolates (Iso-9, Iso-10, Iso-11, Iso-28) could solubilize phosphate, ranging from 49.64 g L1 to 67.98 mg L1. After being inoculated with <i>in vitro</i> potato plants, isolates 9, 10, 28, 30, improved the stalk length, root number, fresh mass and dried mass of the potato plants. <b>Conclusion:</b> The four isolates can potentially be applied in <i>in vitro</i> potato culture.

RESUMO

Mental health care for students in general, particularly anxiety, is a significant problem that needs more attention, especially during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of anxiety and examine the associated factors among students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. A cross-sectional study was conducted from August to September 2021 among 5730 students. An online survey was used to collect sociodemographic information, and the generalized anxiety disorder questionnaire (GAD-7) was used to assess anxiety symptoms among Vietnamese students. Results showed that the prevalence of anxiety among study participants was 16.2% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 15.3%-17.2%). Factors related to anxiety among students were gender, type of housemate, COVID-19 exposure/infection status, vaccination status, health status, academic performance, and social relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic. A significant number of students experienced anxiety during COVID-19, and this rate was related to several factors. Psychological interventions are required to support students during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and other health crises. Further studies are required to confirm our findings.

RESUMO

Fast hydrothermal liquefaction of acid-washed Cladophora socialis macroalgae has been studied over homogeneous (KOH, K2CO3, H3PO4, HCOOH) and heterogeneous (H-ZSM-5, Raney Ni, Ru/C, Fe metal) catalysts in a batch reactor at 350 °C. Biocrude with maximum yield (36.2%) and energy density (37.1 MJ kg-1) and minimum heteroatom contents (3.8% N and 10.1% O) were achieved with metallic Fe. GC-MS indicates reduction in content of carbonyls, acids and N-containing substances and increase in levels of phenols and hydrocarbons in biocrude while 1H NMR suggests the enhanced formation of oxygenated/nitrogenous compounds in aqueous phase over Fe catalyst compared to non-catalytic test. Such carbonyls and acids removal was proposed to occur via hydride reduction and decarboxylation pathways, respectively. GPC and TAN confirm vast improvement in stability and corrosiveness properties of Fe-catalyzed biocrude. Regeneration of used catalyst has been conducted and the regenerated catalyst exhibited slight deactivation, likely due to sintering of Fe particles.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: In advanced gastric cancer, preoperative chemotherapy is associated with survival benefit. FOLFIRI has demonstrated promising results in terms of survival and tolerance, especially in patients with poor performance status. CASE PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old male, diagnosed with pT4bN2M0 gastric cancer, underwent gastrointestinal anastomosis and three cycles of EOX chemotherapy. Due to disease progression, he was switched to FOLFIRI regimen. After 12 cycles, the patient received a subtotal gastrectomy and D2 lymphadenectomy. Microscopic examination achieved pCR, and the patient has been surviving 34 months without recurrence. No severe toxicities of chemotherapy were recorded. CONCLUSIONS: FOLFIRI might be a safe and effective option in neoadjuvant treatment for advanced gastric cancer among patients with poor performance status or progression after first-line chemotherapy.
