RESUMO

Cs3Cu2I5 nanocrystals (NCs) are considered to be promising materials due to their high photoluminescence efficiency, lack of lead toxicity, and X-ray responsiveness. However, during the crystallization process, NCs are prone to agglomeration and exhibit uneven size distribution, resulting in several light scattering that severely affect their imaging resolution. Herein, we successfully developed a high-resolution scintillator film by growing copper-based perovskite NCs within a hybrid polymer matrix. By leveraging the ingenious integration of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the size and distribution uniformity of Cs3Cu2I5 NCs can be effectively controlled. Consequently, a high spatial resolution of 14.3 lp mm-1 and a low detection limit of 105 nGy s-1 are achieved, and the scintillator film has excellent flexibility and stability. These results highlight the promising application of Cs3Cu2I5 scintillator films in low-cost, flexible, and high-performance medical imaging.

Persistent luminescence (PersL) materials exhibit thermal-favored optical behavior, enabling their unique applications in security night vision signage, in vivo bioimaging, and optical anti-counterfeiting. Therefore, developing efficient and color-tunable PersL materials is significantly crucial in promoting advanced practical use. In this study, hexagonal Zr4+ -doped CsCdCl3 perovskite is synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction with a tunable photoluminescent (PL) behavior through heterovalent substitution. Moreover, the incorporation of Zr4+ ions result in an extra blue emission band, originating from the enhanced excitonic recombination in D3d octahedrons. Furthermore, the afterglow performances of the samples are dramatically improved, along with the noticeable temperature-dependent PersL as well as the thermo-luminescence with tunable color output. Detailed analysis reveals that the unique temperature-dependent PersL and thermo-luminescence color change are attributed to the presence of multiple luminous centers and abundant traps. Overall, this work facilitates the development of optical intelligence platforms and novel thermal distribution probes with the as-developed halides perovskite for its superior explored PersL characteristic.

The visualized dual-modal stress-temperature sensing refers to the ability of a sensor to provide real-time and visible information about both stress and temperature and has indeed attracted significant interest in various fields. However, the development of convenient methods for achieving this capability remains a challenge. In this work, a dual-modal stress-temperature sensor is successfully fabricated using a ZnS/Cu@CsPbBr1.2I1.8 glass ceramics (GCs)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) (ZCP) composite film. The tunable ML color is achieved by modulating the concentration of CsPbBr1.2I1.8 GCs in the ZCP composite films based on the light conversion process from ZnS/Cu to CsPbBr1.2I1.8 GCs. Additionally, the stress and temperature can be visualized simultaneously by integrating the ML intensity and ML color of the ZCP composite film. This feature allows for the real-time monitoring of automotive tire temperature by embedding the ZCP composite film on the tire surface, enabling a strong and stable response to both stress and temperature changes. Overall, this work offers a convenient, efficient, and repeatable approach for achieving visualized dual-modal stress-temperature sensing in the fields of mechanical engineering, structural health monitoring, and intelligent devices.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the effect of pre-operative cluster care nursing on patient compliance during preoperative isolation of pediatric patients from their family members before cochlear implant surgery. STUDY METHODS: A total of 350 pediatric patients who underwent cochlear implant surgery at Sichuan Rehabilitation Hospital from January 2021 to December 2022 were enrolled. The children were divided into two groups:Experimental group (group E) consisted of 182 children who received pre-operative cluster care nursing, and control group (group C) consisted of 168 children who received pre-operative routine nursing. The compliance scores of the two groups of patients when separated from their families before entering the operating room and the number of patients requiring intravenous injection of midazolam were recorded. RESULTS: The compliance scores of group E were significantly lower than those of group C (t = 4.141, P < 0.001). The percentage of patients requiring intravenous injection of midazolam was recorded: it was 21.98% (40/182) in group E and 42.26% (71/168) in group C. Notably, the injection rate of midazolam in group E was significantly lower than that in group C (χ2 = 16.597, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Pre-operative cluster care nursing can improve patient compliance and reduce the use of sedative drugs during preoperative isolation of pediatric patients from their family members for cochlear implant surgery.

The current optical anticounterfeit strategies that rely on multimode luminescence in response to the photon or thermal stimuli have significant importance in the field of anticounterfeiting and information encryption. However, the dependence on light and heat sources might limit their flexibility in practical applications. In this work, Er3+ single-doped CaF2 phosphors that show multistimuli-responsive luminescence have been successfully prepared. The as-obtained CaF2:Er3+ phosphor exhibits green photoluminescence (PL) and color-tunable up-conversation (UC) luminescence from red to green due to the cross-relaxation of Er3+ ions. Additionally, as-obtained CaF2:Er3+ phosphors also display green mechano-luminescence behavior, which is induced by the contact electrification between the CaF2 particles and PDMS polymers, enabling the phosphor to flexibly respond to mechanical stimuli. Moreover, feasible anticounterfeiting schemes with the capability of multistimuli-responsive and flexible decryption have been constructed, further expanding the application of optical materials in the field of advanced anticounterfeiting and information encryption.

Wear debris-induced osteolysis, especially titanium (Ti) particles-induced osteolysis, is the most common cause of arthroplasty failure with no effective therapy. Previous studies have suggested that inflammation and impaired osteogenesis are associated with Ti particles -induced osteolysis. Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element in the human body, which forms selenomethionine (Se-Met) in nature, and selenoproteins has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant stress effects. In this study, the effects of Se-Met on Ti particles-induced osteolysis were observed and the potential mechanism was explored. We found that exogenous Se-Met relieved osteolysis induced by Ti particles in two animal models and MC3T3-E1 cells. We found that the addition of Se-Met effectively inhibited Ti particle-induced inflammation by regulating reactive oxygen species-dependent (ROS-dependent) NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation. These therapeutic effects were abrogated in MC3T3-E1 cells that had received a ß-catenin antagonist, suggesting that Se-Met alleviates inflammatory osteolysis via the ß-catenin signaling pathway. Collectively, these findings indicated that Se-Met may serve as a potential therapeutic agent for treating Ti particle-induced osteolysis.

Complex and high-security-level anti-counterfeiting strategies with multiple luminescent modes are extremely critical for meeting the requirement of constantly developing information storage and information security. In this work, Tb3+ ions doped Sr3Y2Ge3O12 (SYGO) and Tb3+/Er3+ co-doped SYGO phosphors are successfully fabricated and are unitized for anti-counterfeiting and information encoding under distinct stimuli sources. The green photoluminescence (PL), long persistent luminescence (LPL), mechano-luminescence (ML), and photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) behaviors are respectively observed under the stimuli of ultraviolet (UV), thermal disturbance, stress, and 980 nm diode laser. Based on the time-dependence of the filling and releasing rate of the carriers from the shallow traps, the dynamic information encryption strategy is proposed by simply changing the UV pre-irradiation time or shut-off time. Moreover, a tunable color from green to red is realized by prolonging the 980 nm laser irradiation time, which is attributed to the elaborate cooperation of the PSL and upconversion (UC) behaviors. The anti-counterfeiting method based on SYGO: Tb3+ and SYGO: Tb3+, Er3+ phosphors herein possess an extremely high-security level with attractive performance for designing advanced anti-counterfeiting technology.

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates and poor prognosis. N7-methylguanosine play an increasingly vital role in lung adenocarcinoma. However, the prognostic value of N7-methylguanosine related-miRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma remains unclear. METHODS: In the study, the mRNA and miRNA expression profiles and corresponding clinical informations were downloaded from the public database. The prognostic signature was built using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox analysis. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare survival outcomes between the high- and low-risk groups. Signatures for the development of lung adenocarcinoma were tested using univariate and multivariate Cox regression models. Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis was used to determine the immune cell infiltration score. First, we predicted METTL1 and WDR4 chemosensitivities based on a public pharmacogenomics database. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the performance of signature in 1-,3-, and 5-year survival predictions were 0.68, 0.65, and 0.683, respectively. RESULTS: We established a novel prognostic signature consisting of 9 N7-Methylguanosine related miRNAs using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox analysis. Patients in the high-risk group had shorter survival times than those in the low-risk group did. The calibration curves at 1, 3, and 5-year also illustrate the high predictive power of the structure. Signature was corrected using the Toumor stage. The expression levels of METTL1 and WDR4 significantly correlated with the sensitivity of cancer cells to antitumor drugs. CONCLUSIONS: A novel signature constructed using 9 N7-methylguanosine related-miRNAs can be used for prognostic prediction.

Integration of functional micro-/nano-frameworks with various analytical techniques is favored to produce advanced and practical methods for identification, inspection, and regulation of hazards in agro-food products. Herein, two novel synthetic strategies were developed for preparation of core-shell structured ZIF-8@COF by using metal halides as the catalyst, and further construction of hollow-structured covalent organic frameworks (HCOFs) with a sacrificial template method. The HCOFs adsorbent exhibited high stability, universality and adsorption affinity for advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and aflatoxins (AFTs) than pristine COF. Combined with HPLC and HPLC-MS/MS, the applicability of this method was verified by infant formula samples with satisfying recoveries of 87.3%-98.9%. Furthermore, HCOF showed potential ability of adsorbing and removing AGEs from plasma without causing other risk. This work opens up the road for further research on the simple method to synthesis HCOF, besides, provides a technological basis for monitoring and controlling AGEs and AFTs in milk powder.

Although the possibility of first-line hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) from alternative donors in severe aplastic anemia (SAA) patients has been suggested recently, transplantation strategies are still being investigated. We established a novel post-transplantation cyclophosphamide-based HCT protocol for patients with SAA in prior studies. We explores the effectiveness and safety of this HCT approach either as first-line or as salvage treatment in SAA patients. Outcomes of 71 consecutive young patients, who received HCT from unrelated or haploidentical donors, were retrospectively analyzed. According to their treatment before transplantation, the patients were classified into treatment-naive (TN) and relapsed or refractory (R/R) patients. The R/R patients were designated as such when a patient did not respond to previous immunosuppressive therapy or relapsed. We administered an antithymocyte globulin (ATG)-free, total body irradiation (TBI)-free conditioning regimen comprising cyclophosphamide, busulfan, and fludarabine, all in an intravenous formula. We used a thorough post-transplantation prophylaxis regimen for GVHD, including post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) and short-term methotrexate and long-term cyclosporine A. The median age of the cohort was 16 (95% confidence interval, 12-20) years at transplantation. Most patients (61 of 71) received HCT from haploidentical donors, and the others received HCT from unrelated donors. TN patients (n = 38) were younger and had a shorter time-to-transplant and lower HCT-specific comorbidity index than patients with R/R diseases (n = 33). The frequencies of graft failure, grade II-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and moderate-severe chronic GVHD were similar, at 5.3% versus 6.5% (P = .057), 8.3% versus 0% (P = .109), and 5.7% versus 0% (P = .199) between R/R and TN patients. With a median 42-month follow-up, the frequencies of overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) were higher in the TN group than in the R/R group (100% versus 84.8% [P = .013] and 86.8% versus 75.8% [P = .255], respectively). All patients who achieved successful engraftment showed full donor chimerism. Four patients, all in the R/R group, suffered from donor-type aplasia; of these, 2 died, 1 was salvaged with another transplantation, and the final one was still receiving transfusion at the last follow-up. Currently, 93.9% (62 of 66) of the patients are alive more than 12 months after transplantation; of these 93.5% (58 of 62) no longer receive immunosuppression, including 91.7% (33 of 34) of the TN group and 89.3% (25 of 28) in the R/R group. This novel TBI-free and ATG-free HCT protocol using a reduced-intensity conditioning regimen followed by modified PTCy achieved promising engraftment, minimal GVHD risk, and encouraging OS and EFS. Our study suggests that unrelated or haploidentical HCT with PTCy can be used as a first-line treatment for young patients with SAA. Nevertheless, further efforts are needed to explore possibilities for older patients and patients with a poor performance status.

Haploidentical transplantation strategies for patients with transfusion-dependent thalassaemia (TD-TM) remain to be investigated. In this study, 54 paediatric patients with TD-TM were treated with a novel approach using post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) and low-dose methotrexate (LD-MTX), following a myeloablative regimen. The incidence of neutrophil and platelet engraftment was 96.3% ± 2.6% and 94.4% ± 3.1% respectively. The cumulative incidence of grades II-III acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was 13.8% ± 4.8% at 100 days. At three years, the cumulative incidence of chronic GVHD was 28.5% ± 8.5%. With a median follow-up of 520 days (132-1325 days), the overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) were 98.1% ± 1.8% and 90.7% ± 3.9% respectively. Compared with the low-dose cyclophosphamide (CTX) conditioning regimen (120 mg/kg), the high-CTX regimen (200 mg/kg) achieved a higher incidence of stable engraftment (100% vs 66.7% ± 15.7%, p = 0.003), a comparable incidence of grades II-III acute GVHD, a lower incidence of chronic GVHD (20.2% ± 8.3% vs 66.6% ± 19.2%, p = 0.011), and better overall survival (100% vs 88.9% ± 10.5%, p = 0.025) as well as EFS (95.6% ± 3.1% vs 66.7% ± 15.7%, p = 0.008). Our results using unmanipulated haploidentical grafts and PTCy with LD-MTX in TD-TM are encouraging. (chictr.org.cn ChiCTR1800017969).

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the variation types of the axis in patients with basilar invagination (BI), then propose a classification scheme of the axis deformity. METHODS: From December 2013 to September 2020, 92 patients (male 42, female 50) who were diagnosed with BI were studied retrospectively. Based on the imaging data of CT, the width and height of the axis pedicle and the sagittal diameter of the lateral mass were measured in each patient. According to the development of axis pedicle and lateral mass, the types of axis variation were summarized, and then the classification scheme of axis deformity was put forward. RESULTS: All cases were analyzed and axis deformities were divided into four types. Type I: the axis is basically normal (53 cases, 57.6%). Type II: axis lateral mass is dysplasia (eight cases, 8.7%), which includes two subtypes: type IIA, the axis unilateral lateral mass is dysplasia (three cases); type IIB, the axis bilateral lateral masses are all dysplasia (five cases). Type III: axis pedicle is dysplasia (11 cases, 12%), which is subdivided into two subtypes: type IIIA, the axis unilateral pedicle is dysplasia (six cases); type IIIB, the axis bilateral pedicles are all dysplasia (five cases). Type IV: axis pedicle and lateral mass are all dysplasia (20 cases, 21.7%), this type contains the following four subtypes: type IVA, the unilateral axis pedicle and unilateral lateral mass (contralateral or ipsilateral) are all hypoplasia (four cases); type IVB, the unilateral axis pedicle and bilateral lateral masses are all hypoplasia (five cases); type IVC, the bilateral axis pedicles and unilateral lateral mass are all dysplasia (seven cases); type IVD, the bilateral axis pedicles and bilateral lateral masses are all dysplasia (four cases). The left and right abnormal lateral mass sagittal diameter (Type II) was (7.23 ± 1.39) mm and (5.96 ± 1.37) mm, respectively, the left and right abnormal pedicle width (Type III) was (2.61 ± 1.01) mm and (3.23 ± 0.66) mm, respectively, left and right abnormal pedicle height (Type III) was (5.43 ± 2.19) mm and (4.92 ± 1.76) mm, respectively. Moreover, the classification scheme has good repeatability and credibility. CONCLUSIONS: The classification about axis deformity could provide personalized guidance for axis screw placement in the BI and other upper cervical surgery, and axis screw placement errors would be effectively avoided.

Biofilms are sessile microbial communities growing on surfaces, which are encased in some self-produced extracellular material. Beneficial biofilm could be widely used in agriculture, food, medicine, environment and other fields. As an ideal biocontrol agent, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens B4 can form a strong biofilm under static conditions. In this study, we screened out metal compounds that enhanced or inhibited the biofilm formation ability of B4, established the relationship between the biofilm of B4 strain and its postharvest biocontrol effect, and explored the regulation of metal compounds on the biofilm formation. The results showed 0.5 mmol L-1 ferric chloride could enhance the biofilm formation and strengthen the antifungal effect of B4, indicating that there was a positive relationship between the growth of biofilm and its biocontrol effect. The enhanced biofilm had a certain biocontrol effect on different fruit, including peach, loquat, Kyoho grape and cherry tomato. Furthermore, the expression of degU and tasA was affected by metal ion treatment, which meant the genes might be essential for the biofilm formation of B4. Our findings suggested that biofilm of B. amyloliquefaciens played an essential role in the process of biocontrol and it might be a novel strategy for managing postharvest fruit decay.

BACKGROUND: Foot drop is a syndrome resulting from weakness or paralysis of the tibialis anterior muscle. Some patients with thoracic disc herniation seek medical help complain of foot drop as the initial symptom. The study investigated the clinical characteristics of these patients and clarified the clinical efficacy after treatment. METHODS: A total of 13 patients with foot drop as the initial symptom arising from thoracic disc herniation were collected from January 2015 to December 2020. The average follow-up period was 20.5 months. We recorded neurological functions, the tibialis anterior muscle strength, Japanese Orthopedic Association score (JOA), location of the lesion, and occupation rate of herniation in the spinal canal preoperatively and at the final follow-up. RESULTS: None pathological reflex was found in the patients. Surgical treatment was performed in 12 of the 13 patients, and tibialis anterior functional recovery was observed in 83.4% (10/12) of the cases, with an average recovery rate of 52.8 ± 18.5%. The mean JOA score increased from 6.8 ± 1.9 points preoperatively to 8.9 ± 1.3 points postoperatively (p < 0.05), achieving a mean recovery rate of 52.3 ± 13.1%. The MRI showed the conus medullaris was obviously compressed at the level of T11-L1, and the occupation rate of herniation was more than 40% in all patients, with an average of 65.4 ± 16.3%. CT indicated that 84.6% of the cases had calcification in intervertebral discs. CONCLUSION: Foot drop can be the initial symptom caused by thoracic disc herniation at the T11-L1 level, especially for the calcified disc herniation. A satisfactory recovery rate can be achieved by surgical decompression with fixation.

The sudden outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 has caused the shortage of medical resources around the world, especially in developing countries and underdeveloped regions. With the continuous increase in the duration of this disease, the control of migration of humans between regions or countries has to be relaxed. Based on this, we propose a two-patches mathematical model to simulate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 among two-patches, asymptomatic infected humans and symptomatic infected humans, where a half-saturated detection rate function is also introduced to describe the effect of medical resources. By applying the methods of linearization and constructing a suitable Lyapunov function, the local and global stability of the disease-free equilibrium of this model without migration is obtained. Further, the existence of forward/backward bifurcation is analyzed, which is caused by the limited medical resources. This means that the elimination or prevalence of the disease no longer depends on the basic reproduction number but is closely related to the initial state of asymptomatic and symptomatic infected humans and the supply of medical resources. Finally, the global dynamics of the full model are discussed, and some numerical simulations are carried to explain the main results and the effects of migration and supply of medical resources on the transmission of disease.

Background: Carcinoma of the head of pancreas has a high malignant degree and the 5-year survival rate at 5%. For unresectable pancreatic cancer, the 5-year survival rate is even lower. The clinical diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is difficult, and surgical indications are difficult to grasp. Moreover, perioperative and postoperative management is complex, and patients with different conditions need more attention to implement a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment strategy. In the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer and even other cancers, multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment can provide reasonable, personalized and more effective plans for patients so that cancer patients can receive better treatment and improve their quality of life. The multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment model can respond to the complex needs to individual patients. Case Description: This model is designed according to each patient's comprehensive situation, including their clinical symptoms, biochemical indicators, body mass index, and psychological status, and the tumor position, pathological tissue typing, and invasion scope. Complications of tumors can be reduced if treatment is controlled and if radical treatments are used within a broader comprehensive care model, thereby improving the quality of life of patients to prolong their survival. In our case report, the overall survival is much longer than un-resectable pancreatic cancer (median overall survival 6-9 months. The female patient was 53 years old. Her chief complaints were yellow skin, yellow urine, and absorption emaciation for 1 month. The preliminary diagnosis was postoperative pancreatic cancer. CT reexamination suggested portal vein liver metastasis. Repeated gastrointestinal bleeding occurs over the course of the disease. Postoperative review suggested recurrence, and she was admitted to First Affiliated Hospital, Army Medical University. During the treatment, the disease progressed to gastrointestinal bleeding, ascites, and jaundice. Conclusions: After multidisciplinary treatment (MDT) discussion, targeted treatment strategies were developed to improve the symptoms and improve the quality of life of the patients.

BACKGROUND: To analyze the imaging features of coronary artery-to-pulmonary artery fistula (CPAF) on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 3,975 patients who underwent 320 row detector CCTA examinations in our hospital from May 2015 to July 2020. A total of 22 patients who diagnosed with CPAF were reviewed for CCTA imaging characteristics, including the origin, number, blood volume, opening size, and course of fistula vessels, and the drainage site, size, and imaging features of the fistula. All cases were analyzed for the presence of coronary atherosclerotic plaque and that of deficient left ventricular myocardial perfusion. RESULTS: A total of 22 CPAF cases detected by CCTA were collected (men, 11; women, 11; median age, 59.6±10.1 years). There were 7, 10, and 5 cases detected with 1, 2, and 3 fistula vessels, respectively, among which 4 originated from the left coronary artery, 4 from the right coronary artery, and 14 had bilateral origins. There were 10 cases in which the fistula vessels presented as a worm-like tortuous dilation with (n=5) or without (n=5) aneurysm, while 12 cases showed malformed vascular networks with (n=8) or without (n=4) aneurysm, respectively. The calculated incidence of aneurysm formation was 59.09%, and fistula vessels with an aneurysm had larger blood volume than those without. All fistula showed a single drainage site, with an average diameter of 2.81±1.48 mm where the diameter of fistula with aneurysm was larger than that without. The fistula vessels drained into the left anterolateral and anterior walls of main pulmonary artery and the proximal left inferior PA, respectively. Typical jet sign, smoke sign, and isodensity sign were presented in 22, 14 and 1 case, respectively. For the coexistent abnormalities analyzed in 22 cases, 17 participants with CPAF demonstrated hypoperfusion of the fistula vessels, and 11 demonstrated calcified plaque accompanied with luminal stenosis to different degrees. CONCLUSIONS: The 320-row detector CCTA can comprehensively characterize the morphological features of CPAF, which is an optimal choice for physicians to make an accurate assessment before formulating patient management strategies.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between the use of biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) and the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with systemic inflammatory conditions. METHODS: Eligible cohort studies or randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from inception to January 2021 were included. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for cardiovascular outcomes were calculated in the fixed- and random-effects model accordingly. Associated factors with risks of cardiovascular events were also studied in sensitivity analyses and metaregression analyses. RESULTS: Compared with non-bDMARD users, the risks of myocardial infarction (MI) (OR = 0.74, 95% CI, 0.63 to 0.87), heart failure (OR = 0.84, 95% CI, 0.74 to 0.95), cardiovascular (CV) death (OR = 0.62, 95% CI, 0.40 to 0.95), all-cause mortality (OR = 0.64, 95% CI, 0.58 to 0.70), and 3P-MACE (composite endpoint of MI, stroke, and CV death) (OR = 0.69, 95% CI, 0.53 to 0.89) were significantly reduced in bDMARD users, which were mainly driven by the risk reduction in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). TNF-α inhibitors exhibited consistent benefits in reducing the risks of MI, heart failure, CV death, all-cause mortality, and 3P-MACE. Moreover, the risks of heart failure, CV death, all-cause mortality, and 3P-MACE were significantly reduced in bDMARD users with follow-up over one year. CONCLUSIONS: The use of bDMARDs might be associated with the reduced risks of CV events, especially in patients with RA. The CV events might be less frequent in bDMARD users with TNF-α inhibitors or follow-up over one year. More investigations are needed to validate conclusions.

OBJECTIVE: We focus on providing the first comprehensive national dataset on the incidence, injury aetiology and mortality of TSCI in China. METHODS: A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method was used. We included TSCI cases from all hospitals in three regions, nine provinces and 27 cities in China via search of electronic medical records and retrospectively analysed the characteristics of TSCI in China from 2009 to 2018. We estimated the incidence of TSCI in the total population and subgroups. RESULTS: There were 5954 actual cases in 2009, corresponding to a total estimated TSCI incidence of 45.1 cases per million population (95% CI, 44.0-46.3). There were 10,074 actual cases in 2018, corresponding to a total estimated TSCI incidence of 66.5 cases per million population (95% CI, 65.2-67.8) (P < 0.001; annual average percentage change (AAPC), 4.4%). From 2009 to 2018, the incidence of almost all sex/age groups showed an increasing trend over time (P < 0.001; AAPC, 0.7-8.8%). The elderly population (aged 65-74) displayed the highest incidence of TSCI (with an average annual incidence of 127.1 cases per million [95% CI, 119.8-134.3]). CONCLUSIONS: The TSCI incidence increased significantly from 2009 to 2018. The incidence in the elderly populations was consistently high and continues to increase over time. The mortality of TSCI patients in hospitals is relatively low and continues to decrease each year, but elderly individuals remain at a high risk of hospital death.
