RESUMO

Tubular hematite with high-concentration, uniform doping is regarded as a promising material for photoelectrochemical water oxidation. However, the high-temperature annealing commonly used for activating doped hematite inevitably causes deformation of the tubular structure and an increase in the trap states. In the present work, Sn-doped tubular hematite on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) is successfully obtained at 750 °C from a Sn-coated FeOOH tube precursor. Sn/P codoping, which is rarely considered for hematite, is also achieved via a gas phase reaction in phosphide atmosphere. The tubular morphology allows the dopant to diffuse from both the inner and outer surfaces, thus decreasing the doping profile in the radial direction. The even distribution of Sn and P synergetically increases the carrier density of hematite by one order of magnitude, which shortens the width of the depletion layer to ca. 2.3 nm (compared with 19.3 nm for the pristine sample) and leads to prolonged carrier lifetime and efficient charge separation. In addition, this codoping protocol does not introduce additional surface trap states, as evidenced by the increased charge injection efficiency and surface kinetic analysis using intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS). As a result, the morphology- and doping-engineered hematite exhibits photocurrents of 0.9 mA cm-2 at 1.23 V and 3.8 mA cm-2 at 2.0 V vs. RHE under AM 1.5 G illumination (100 mW cm-2) in 1.0 M NaOH, representing 4.5-fold and 4.8-fold enhancements, respectively, compared with the photocurrents of undoped hematite. The present method is shown to be effective for preparing multi-element-doped hematite nanotubes and may find broad application in the development of other nanotubular photoelectrodes with or without doping for efficient and robust water oxidation.

Developing high surface area nanostructured electrodes with fast charge separation is one of the main challenges for exploring cupric oxide (CuO)-based photocathodes in solar-driven hydrogen production applications. Herein, brand new 1D branched CuO nanowire arrays have been achieved on fluorine-doped tin oxide-coated glass (FTO) through a two-step wet chemical redox reaction. X-ray diffraction patterns, Raman spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirm the pure phase characteristic of the resulting branched CuO. In addition to the enlarged surface area of this advanced functional structure as compared with that of the 1D wire trunk, the charge injection and separation have been improved by rationally controlling the density of defects and size of branches. As a result, the optimized branched CuO exhibits photocurrent as high as 3.6 mA·cm-2 under AM 1.5G (100 mW·cm-2) illumination and 3.0 mA·cm-2 under visible light (λ > 420 nm) at 0.2 V vs. RHE in 0.5 M Na2SO4, which are 2.8- and 3.0-fold greater than those of 1D wire samples, respectively. In addition, the solution-processed approach established herein seems quite favourable for large-scale and low-cost manufacturing.

This study investigated differences in cardiac displacement during adenosine stress versus regadenoson stress in 13N-ammonia (13NH3) MP PET/CT scans. Methods: In total, 61 myocardial perfusion PET/CT scans were acquired using either adenosine (n = 30) or regadenoson (n = 31) as a stressor. For both groups, cardiac displacement during rest and stress was measured 3-dimensionally, relative to either a fixed reference frame or the previous frame, in each 1-min frame of a list-mode PET acquisition of 25 min. All stress scans were additionally evaluated for the presence of motion artifacts. Also, the tolerability of the agents and the occurrence of side effects were compared between groups. Results: Significantly larger cardiac displacement during stress was detected in the adenosine group than in the regadenoson group, reflected by both maximal cardiac displacement (P = 0.022) and mean cardiac displacement (P = 0.001). The duration of the movement was typically shorter in the regadenoson group. Frames with cardiac displacement of at least 5 mm were observed nearly twice as frequently when adenosine was used instead of regadenoson. Conclusion: The displacement during regadenoson stress is of lower amplitude and shorter duration than that during adenosine stress and may therefore contribute to a lower incidence of motion artifacts on PET/CT scans.

OBJECTIVES: Recent technological improvements to PET imaging equipment combined with the availability of software optimized to calculate regional myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) create a paradigm shifting opportunity to provide new clinically relevant quantitative information to cardiologists. However, clinical interpretation of the MBF and MFR is entirely dependent upon knowledge of MBF and MFR values in normal populations and subpopulations. This work reports Rb-82-based MBF and MFR measurements for a series of 49 verified cardiovascularly normal subjects as a preliminary baseline for future clinical studies. METHODS: Forty-nine subjects (24F/25M, ages 41-69) with low probability for coronary artery disease and with normal exercise stress test were included. These subjects underwent rest/dipyridamole stress Rb-82 myocardial perfusion imaging using standard clinical techniques (40 mCi injection, 6-minute acquisition) using a Siemens Biograph 40 PET/CT scanner with high count rate detector option. List mode data was rehistogrammed into 26 dynamic frames (12 × 5 seconds, 6 × 10 seconds, 4 × 20 seconds, 4 × 40 seconds). Cardiac images were processed, and MBF and MFR calculated using Siemens syngo MBF, PMOD, and FlowQuant software using a single compartment Rb-82 model. RESULTS: Global myocardial blood flow under pharmacological stress for the 24 females as measured by PMOD, syngo MBF, and FlowQuant were 3.10 ± 0.72, 2.80 ± 0.66, and 2.60 ± 0.63 mL·minute(-1)·g(-1), and for the 25 males was 2.60 ± 0.84, 2.33 ± 0.75, 2.15 ± 0.62 mL·minute(-1)·g(-1), respectively. Rest flows for PMOD, syngo MBF, and FlowQuant averaged 1.32 ± 0.42, 1.20 ± 0.33, and 1.06 ± 0.38 mL·minute(-1)·g(-1) for the female subjects, and 1.12 ± 0.29, 0.90 ± 0.26, and 0.85 ± 0.24 mL·minute(-1)·g(-1) for the males. Myocardial flow reserves for PMOD, syngo MBF, and FlowQuant for the female normals were calculated to be 2.50 ± 0.80, 2.53 ± 0.67, 2.71 ± 0.90, and 2.50 ± 1.19, 2.85 ± 1.19, 2.94 ± 1.31 mL·minute(-1)·g(-1) for males. CONCLUSION: Quantitative normal MBF and MFR values averaged for age and sex have been compiled for three commercial pharmacokinetic software packages. The current collection of data consisting of 49 subjects resulted in several statistically significant conclusions that support the need for a software specific, age, and sex-matched database to aid in interpretation of quantitative clinical myocardial perfusion studies.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to compare myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) estimates from rubidium-82 positron emission tomography ((82)Rb PET) data using 10 software packages (SPs) based on 8 tracer kinetic models. BACKGROUND: It is unknown how MBF and MFR values from existing SPs agree for (82)Rb PET. METHODS: Rest and stress (82)Rb PET scans of 48 patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease were analyzed in 10 centers. Each center used 1 of 10 SPs to analyze global and regional MBF using the different kinetic models implemented. Values were considered to agree if they simultaneously had an intraclass correlation coefficient >0.75 and a difference <20% of the median across all programs. RESULTS: The most common model evaluated was the Ottawa Heart Institute 1-tissue compartment model (OHI-1-TCM). MBF values from 7 of 8 SPs implementing this model agreed best. Values from 2 other models (alternative 1-TCM and Axially distributed) also agreed well, with occasional differences. The MBF results from other models (e.g., 2-TCM and retention) were less in agreement with values from OHI-1-TCM. CONCLUSIONS: SPs using the most common kinetic model-OHI-1-TCM-provided consistent results in measuring global and regional MBF values, suggesting that they may be used interchangeably to process data acquired with a common imaging protocol.

UNLABELLED: Routine quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF) requires robust and reproducible processing of dynamic image series. The goal of this study was to evaluate the reproducibility of 3 highly automated software programs commonly used for absolute MBF and flow reserve (stress/rest MBF) assessment with (82)Rb PET imaging. METHODS: Dynamic rest and stress (82)Rb PET scans were selected in 30 sequential patient studies performed at 3 separate institutions using 3 different 3-dimensional PET/CT scanners. All 90 scans were processed with 3 different MBF quantification programs, using the same 1-tissue-compartment model. Global (left ventricle) and regional (left anterior descending, left circumflex, and right coronary arteries) MBF and flow reserve were compared among programs using correlation and Bland-Altman analyses. RESULTS: All scans were processed successfully by the 3 programs, with minimal operator interactions. Global and regional correlations of MBF and flow reserve all had an R(2) of at least 0.92. There was no significant difference in flow values at rest (P = 0.68), stress (P = 0.14), or reserve (P = 0.35) among the 3 programs. Bland-Altman coefficients of reproducibility (1.96 × SD) averaged 0.26 for MBF and 0.29 for flow reserve differences among programs. Average pairwise differences were all less than 10%, indicating good reproducibility for MBF quantification. Global and regional SD from the line of perfect agreement averaged 0.15 and 0.17 mL/min/g, respectively, for MBF, compared with 0.22 and 0.26, respectively, for flow reserve. CONCLUSION: The 1-tissue-compartment model of (82)Rb tracer kinetics is a reproducible method for quantification of MBF and flow reserve with 3-dimensional PET/CT imaging.

In the title compound, [Tb(CH(3)CN)(C(23)H(26)O(8))(H(2)O)(3)](ClO(4))(3), the Tb(3+) atom is eight-coordinated by one N atom of an acetonitrile molecule, three water O atoms and four ligand O atoms. The Tb(3+) atom is located on one side of the macrocycle and the carbonyl oxygen coordinated to the terbium [Tb1-O1= 2.210 (3) Å] is bent out of the xanthone plane by 0.514 (3) Å. The geometry around terbium is a distorted two-capped trigonal prism.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the fracture resistance and failure modes of endodontically treated human upper premolars restored with different post-core systems. METHODS: 32 extracted human upper premolars were endodontically treated and crowns were sectioned at 2 mm above the labial cement enamel junction (CEJ). The teeth were randomly and equally divided into 4 groups: Group A, teeth restored with cast metal post and metal crown; group B, Tenax Fiber White fiber post and metal crown; group C, EverStick fiber post 1.5 mm in diameter and metal crown; group D, EverStick fiber post 1.5 mm in diameter and add another 1.2 mm diameter EverStick fiber post and metal crown. All the teeth were embedded in acrylic resin blocks, and were subjected to a compressive load at 1 mm/min crosshead speed which delivered at a 45 degrees to the long axis until the first sign of failure was noted. The fracture load and the mode of fracture were recorded. RESULTS: Fracture resistances of the four groups of restored teeth were not significantly different (P>0.05). However, fracture modes in fiber post groups were nearer to CEJ than cast metal post group. CONCLUSION: Fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth restored with EverStick fiber post is enhanced that it can meet the clinical need, although the flexural resistance of EverStick fiber post itself is the weakest. Fracture modes of all fiber post groups are more favorable than cast metal post group.

UNLABELLED: PET studies using l-3,4-dihydroxy-6-(18)F-fluorophenylalanine have been applied to assess the diminished functionality of the striatum in patients with suspected Parkinson's disease. Two techniques for analyzing such studies are ratio methods and graphically computed influx constants. We propose a method for improving the consistency with which scans obtained by either of these techniques are analyzed. The method is based on a fully 3-dimensional analysis of the images. METHODS: Fifty-one dynamically acquired datasets were corrected for motion before analysis. Regions of interest (ROIs) for the analysis were determined by manual affine registration to a standard template, using a separate transformation for each ROI. Indicator values for each ROI were computed by averaging the values of voxels having the highest activity within a specified proportion of the voxels in the ROI, to increase the robustness to perturbations in the ROI position. Sensitivity was analyzed by examining the variation in results obtained when the ROIs were translated by up to 6 mm. RESULTS: We observed significant percentage differences in the computed influx constant before and after motion correction (mean variation +/- SD, -0.75% +/- 9.5% averaged over all regions of all patients). Our method was robust to placement of the cerebellum ROI, whereas a 2- dimensional analysis based on hand-drawn ROIs was associated with a 2- to 3-fold greater percentage variation in uptake for translations of 2 mm or more in ROI position. When we compared the 2 quantification techniques, our influx constants and ratios correlated at r(2) = 0.91, P < 0.0001. CONCLUSION: Motion correction is an important step for computing reliable results in dynamic studies. The robustness of the results can be increased further by using standard normalized volumetric ROIs and by using the average value of a specified proportion of the voxels with the highest activity in the ROI as an indicator for that ROI. Influx constant values computed using our analysis technique closely correlated to values computed with ratio methods using this general approach.
