RESUMO

Globally, corn is the most economically important crop, surpassing other cereals of economic importance. However, the tillage methods, monoculture and the abuse of synthetic agrochemicals used in Mexico have led to the loss of fertility and soil yield. In this sense, the application of alternative fertilization methods based on chemical fertilizer, organic matter and biofertilizer, applied alone or in combination, can stimulate the defense systems of corn plants and increase their yield. Therefore, in this research, some fertilization schemes were tested on purple corn plants of the Kculli race through the evaluation of some growth and yield variables, as well as the subsequent evaluation of the chemical characteristics of the corn grain produced in each fertilization scheme. The results indicate highly significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) between treatments, for the different growth and yield variables studied. Of all the fertilization schemes evaluated, treatment T7 obtained the best grain yield of 6.19 ± 0.07 t ha-1, with respect to treatment T1 of 1.02 ± 0.01 t ha-1, as well as the highest protein content and starch quality. Being clear the positive effect of the adequate contribution of the macro and micronutrients used exerts on the corn crop in each of the fertilization schemes studied. On the other hand, the analysis carried out on the grains was found within the values reported by other authors.

RESUMO

Purpose: We determined whether quantifying neuroblastoma-associated mRNAs (NB-mRNAs) in bone marrow and blood improves assessment of disease and prediction of disease progression in patients with relapsed/refractory neuroblastoma.Experimental Design: mRNA for CHGA, DCX, DDC, PHOX2B, and TH was quantified in bone marrow and blood from 101 patients concurrently with clinical disease evaluations. Correlation between NB-mRNA (delta cycle threshold, ΔCt, for the geometric mean of genes from the TaqMan Low Density Array NB5 assay) and morphologically defined tumor cell percentage in bone marrow, 123I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) Curie score, and CT/MRI-defined tumor longest diameter was determined. Time-dependent covariate Cox regression was used to analyze the relationship between ΔCt and progression-free survival (PFS).Results: NB-mRNA was detectable in 83% of bone marrow (185/223) and 63% (89/142) of blood specimens, and their ΔCt values were correlated (Spearman r = 0.67, P < 0.0001), although bone marrow Ct was 7.9 ± 0.5 Ct stronger than blood Ct When bone marrow morphology, MIBG, or CT/MRI were positive, NB-mRNA was detected in 99% (99/100), 88% (100/113), and 81% (82/101) of bone marrow samples. When all three were negative, NB-mRNA was detected in 55% (11/20) of bone marrow samples. Bone marrow NB-mRNA correlated with bone marrow morphology or MIBG positivity (P < 0.0001 and P = 0.007). Bone marrow and blood ΔCt values correlated with PFS (P < 0.001; P = 0.001) even when bone marrow was morphologically negative (P = 0.001; P = 0.014). Multivariate analysis showed that bone marrow and blood ΔCt values were associated with PFS independently of clinical disease and MYCN gene status (P < 0.001; P = 0.055).Conclusions: This five-gene NB5 assay for NB-mRNA improves definition of disease status and correlates independently with PFS in relapsed/refractory neuroblastoma.

Context: different clinical trials have shown that the effect of revascularization and angioplasty procedures in the prognosis of the patient has only a short-term effect, while secondary prevention (lifestyle change and intensive treatment) improves long-term prognosis. Objective: to assess compliance with the recommendations for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary revascularization at the University Hospital Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, between 2008 and 2010. Materials and Methods: a descriptive ambispective study, whose population was conformed by 332 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention seen between January 2008 and December 2010 in the service of hemodynamics of the University Hospital Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá. The data collection was conducted by reviewing the medical records of the patients and by telephone. Control targets were based on the recommendations of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Results: 332 patients underwent percutaneous coronary revascularization. 4 were excluded from the study due to lack of data. The most common clinical presentation was unstable angina (32.93%). Only 172 patients (52.43%) were contacted. From these, 77.4% were male and 22.6% female. Only 6 (3.5%) met 100% of the recommendations for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease and 17% met less than 50% of these recommendations. Conclusions: the experience in the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá shows a poor compliance with the goals of secondary prevention of coronary disease.
