RESUMO

Over the last twenty-two years I have developed a new concept of psychotherapy and self-help (Positive Psychotherapy), which has been worked out from a transcultural point of view. I am interested in this transcultural aspect as a result of my own transcultural situation (Germany and Iran). Equally important is my interest in oriental stories as resources and communication aids, as instruments in my field of specialization, psychotherapy. An additional factor has been the connection between the wisdom and intuitive thoughts of the Orient and the new psychotherapeutic methods of the West. In my work I have tried to explain the universal significance of the transcultural aspect, to systematize the contents of the transcultural problems, and to show its significance for the development of conflicts. With this aspect in mind, I also had another aim, namely to develop a concept for conflict-centered therapy. Different psychotherapeutic methods can be integrated into this short-term therapy according to the indications.

RESUMO

The transcultural view is evident throughout all of Positive Family-Therapy. It helps us to understand the individual conflicts and can also be important in dealing with such social issues as the treatment of illegal aliens and refugees, foreign aid for the Third World countries, problems in dealing with members of other cultural systems, interracial and transcultural marriages, prejudices, alternative life-styles societies and political problems. 4 ways of dealing with conflict and the 5-stage Positive Family-Therapy are therapeutic strategies in which therapy and self-help are intertwined.

RESUMO

In the case of a 58-year-old female patient suffering from Parkinson's disease an accompanying psychotherapeutic treatment was applied because renewed decline of her condition had set in despite an initial success with an L-Dopa therapy. The positive approach disclosed new starting points to the patients which influenced her emotions and led to an improvement of her discomforts. With Positive Psychotherapy the patient got to know an instrument with which she could reappraise existing microtraumas and could better deal with conflicts in her psychologic and social surroundings.

RESUMO

The development of society may be described in terms of the following structural changes: (a) increased population, which requires other rules of contact for adequate forms of social relationships; (b) urbanization, with people living together in clusters, which, on the one hand, intensifies social relationships, but, on the other, reduces possibilities for real friendship; (c) differentiation, which rests on increasing technological development and requires specialization in partial functions; (d) transcultural problems. With people in the industrialized countries, this somatic-psychosocial relationship finds expression in the famous deadly sins of civilization, the risk factors. The following five factors are responsible for the origin and development of psychosocial and psychosomatic diseases, especially the so-called diseases of civilization: alcohol; intoxicants and drugs; smoking, overweight, sedentary life; and emotional stress (anxiety and inner tension).
