RESUMO

Antimony has a high theoretical capacity and suitable alloying/dealloying potentials to make it a future anode for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs); however, substantial volumetric changes, severe pulverization, and active mass delamination from the Cu foil during potassiation/depotassiation need to be overcome. Herein, we present the use of electrophoretic deposition (EPD) to fabricate binder-free electrodes consisting of Sb nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in interconnected multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The anode architecture allows volume changes to be accommodated and prevents Sb delamination within the binder-free electrodes. The Sb mass ratio of the Sb/CNT nanocomposites was varied, with the optimized Sb/CNT nanocomposite delivering a high reversible capacity of 341.30 mA h g-1 (∼90% of the initial charge capacity) after 300 cycles at C/5 and 185.69 mA h g-1 after 300 cycles at 1C. Postcycling investigations reveal that the stable performance is due to the unique Sb/CNT nanocomposite structure, which can be retained over extended cycling, protecting Sb NPs from volume changes and retaining the integrity of the electrode. Our findings not only suggest a facile fabrication method for high-performance alloy-based anodes in PIBs but also encourage the development of alloying-based anodes for next-generation PIBs.

RESUMO

Deformable image registration is an essential component of medical image analysis and plays an irreplaceable role in clinical practice. In recent years, deep learning-based registration methods have demonstrated significant improvements in convenience, robustness and execution time compared to traditional algorithms. However, registering images with large displacements, such as those of the liver organ, remains underexplored and challenging. In this study, we present a novel convolutional neural network (CNN)-based unsupervised learning registration method, Cascaded Multi-scale Spatial-Channel Attention-guided Network (CMAN), which addresses the challenge of large deformation fields using a double coarse-to-fine registration approach. The main contributions of CMAN include: (i) local coarse-to-fine registration in the base network, which generates the displacement field for each resolution and progressively propagates these local deformations as auxiliary information for the final deformation field; (ii) global coarse-to-fine registration, which stacks multiple base networks for sequential warping, thereby incorporating richer multi-layer contextual details into the final deformation field; (iii) integration of the spatial-channel attention module in the decoder stage, which better highlights important features and improves the quality of feature maps. The proposed network was trained using two public datasets and evaluated on another public dataset as well as a private dataset across several experimental scenarios. We compared CMAN with four state-of-the-art CNN-based registration methods and two well-known traditional algorithms. The results show that the proposed double coarse-to-fine registration strategy outperforms other methods in most registration evaluation metrics. In conclusion, CMAN can effectively handle the large-deformation registration problem and show potential for application in clinical practice. The source code is made publicly available at https://github.com/LocPham263/CMAN.git.

RESUMO

The extent to which electrophores covalently bridged by a saturated linker are electrochemically independent was investigated considering the charge/spin duality of the electron and functionality of the electrophore as a spin carrier upon reduction. By combining computational modeling with electrochemical experiments, we investigated the mechanism by which tethered electrophores react together within 4,4'-oligo[n]methylene-bipyridinium assemblies (with n=2 to 5). We show that native dicationic electrophores (redox state Z=+2) are folded prior to electron injection into the system, allowing the emergence of supra-molecular orbitals (supra-MOs) likely to support the process of the reductive σ bond formation giving cyclomers. Indeed, for Z=+2, London Dispersion (LD) forces contribute to flatten the potential energy surface such that all-trans and folded conformers are approximately isoenergetic. Then, upon one-electron injection, for radical cations (Z=+1), LD forces significantly stabilize the folded conformers, except for the ethylene derivative deprived of supra-MOs. For radical cations equipped with supra-MOs, the unpaired electron is delocalized over both heterocycles through space. Cyclomer completion (Z=0) upon the second electron transfer occurs according to the inversion of redox potentials. This mechanism explains why intramolecular reactivity is favored and why pyridinium electrophores are not independent.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Placenta accreta spectrum disorders (PASDs) increase the mortality rate for mothers and newborns over a decade. Thus, the purpose of the study is to evaluate the neonatal outcomes in emergency cesarean section (CS) and planned surgery as well as in Cesarean hysterectomy and the modified one-step conservative uterine surgery (MOSCUS). The secondary aim is to reveal the factors relating to poor neonatal outcomes. METHODS: This was a single-center retrospective study conducted between 2019 and 2020 at Tu Du Hospital, in the southern region of Vietnam. A total of 497 pregnant women involved in PASDs beyond 28 weeks of gestation were enrolled. The clinical outcomes concerning gestational age, birth weight, APGAR score, neonatal intervention, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission, and NICU length of stay (LOS) were compared between emergency and planned surgery, between the Cesarean hysterectomy and the MOSCUS. The univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to assess the adverse neonatal outcomes. RESULTS: Among 468 intraoperatively diagnosed PASD cases who underwent CS under general anesthesia, neonatal outcomes in the emergency CS (n = 65) were significantly poorer than in planned delivery (n = 403). Emergency CS increased the odds ratio (OR) for earlier gestational age, lower birthweight, lower APGAR score at 5 min, higher rate of neonatal intervention, NICU admission, and longer NICU LOS ≥ 7 days with OR, 95% confidence interval (CI) were 10.743 (5.675-20.338), 3.823 (2.197-6.651), 5.215 (2.277-11.942), 2.256 (1.318-3.861), 2.177 (1.262-3.756), 3.613 (2.052-6.363), and 2.298 (1.140-4.630), respectively, p < 0.05. Conversely, there was no statistically significant difference between the neonatal outcomes in Cesarean hysterectomy (n = 79) and the MOSCUS method (n = 217). Using the multivariable logistic regression, factors independently associated with the 5-min-APGAR score of less than 7 points were time duration from the skin incision to fetal delivery (min) and gestational age (week). One minute-decreased time duration from skin incision to fetal delivery contributed to reduce the risk of adverse neonatal outcome by 2.2% with adjusted OR, 95% CI: 0.978 (0.962-0.993), p = 0.006. Meanwhile, one week-decreased gestational age increased approximately two fold odds of the adverse neonatal outcome with adjusted OR, 95% CI: 1.983 (1.600-2.456), p < 0.0001. CONCLUSIONS: Among pregnancies with PASDs, the neonatal outcomes are worse in the emergency group compared to planned group of cesarean section. Additionally, the neonatal comorbidities in the conservative surgery using the MOSCUS method are similar to Cesarean hysterectomy. Time duration from the skin incision to fetal delivery and gestational age may be considered in PASD surgery. Further data is required to strengthen these findings.

RESUMO

In Vietnam and the Philippines, viral hepatitis is the leading cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer. This study aims to understand the barriers and enablers of people receiving care for hepatitis B and C to support both countries' efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. Retrospective, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive, quota-based sample of 63 people living with hepatitis B or C in one province of Vietnam and one region of the Philippines. A rapid deductive approach to thematic analysis produced key findings among the three phases of care: (1) pre-awareness and testing, (2) linkage and treatment initiation and (3) ongoing treatment and recovery. The research found that participants followed five typical journeys, from a variety of entry points. Barriers during the pre-awareness and testing phase included limited awareness about hepatitis and its management, stigma and psychological impacts. Enablers included being familiar with the health system and/or patients benefiting from social connections within the health systems. During the linkage and treatment initiation phase, barriers included difficult physical access, complex navigation and inadequate counselling. In this phase, family support emerged as a critical enabler. During the ongoing treatment and recovery phase, the cost of care and socially and culturally informed perceptions of the disease and medication use were both barriers and enablers. Exploring peoples' journeys with hepatitis B and C in Vietnam and the Philippines revealed many similarities despite the different cultural and health system contexts. Insights from this study may help generate a contextualized, people-centred evidence base to inform the design and improvement of primary care services for hepatitis in both research sites.

RESUMO

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) resulting from traumatic brain injury is a serious issue, often leading to death or long-term disability if not promptly diagnosed. Currently, doctors primarily use Computerized Tomography (CT) scans to detect and precisely locate a hemorrhage, typically interpreted by radiologists. However, this diagnostic process heavily relies on the expertise of medical professionals. To address potential errors, computer-aided diagnosis systems have been developed. In this study, we propose a new method that enhances the localization and segmentation of ICH lesions in CT scans by using multiple images created through different data augmentation techniques. We integrate residual connections into a U-Net-based segmentation network to improve the training efficiency. Our experiments, based on 82 CT scans from traumatic brain injury patients, validate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving an IOU score of 0.807 ± 0.03 for ICH segmentation using 10-fold cross-validation.

RESUMO

Germanium (Ge) has a high theoretical specific capacity (1384 mA h g-1) and fast lithium-ion diffusivity, which makes it an attractive anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, large volume changes during lithiation can lead to poor capacity retention and rate capability. Here, electrophoretic deposition (EPD) is used as a facile strategy to prepare Ge nanoparticle carbon-nanotube (Ge/CNT) electrodes. The Ge and CNT mass ratio in the Ge/CNT nanocomposites can be controlled by varying the deposition time, voltage, and concentration of the Ge NP dispersion in the EPD process. The optimized Ge/CNT nanocomposite exhibited long-term cyclic stability, with a capacity of 819 mA h g-1 after 1000 cycles at C/5 and a reversible capacity of 686 mA h g-1 after 350 cycles (with a minuscule capacity loss of 0.07% per cycle) at 1C. The Ge/CNT nanocomposite electrodes delivered dramatically improved cycling stability compared to control Ge nanoparticles. This can be attributed to the synergistic effects of implanting Ge into a 3D interconnected CNT network which acts as a buffer layer to accommodate the volume expansion of Ge NPs during lithiation/delithiation, limiting cracking and/or crumbling, to retain the integrity of the Ge/CNT nanocomposite electrodes.

RESUMO

Gold nanoshells have been actively applied in industries beyond the research stage because of their unique optical properties. Although numerous methods have been reported for gold nanoshell synthesis, the labor-intensive and time-consuming production process is an issue that must be overcome to meet industrial demands. To resolve this, we report a high-throughput synthesis method for nanogap-rich gold nanoshells based on a core silica support (denoted as SiO2@Au NS), affording a 50-fold increase in scale by combining it with a dual-channel infusion pump system. By continuously dropping the reactant solution through the pump, nanoshells with closely packed Au nanoparticles were prepared without interparticle aggregation. The thickness of the gold nanoshells was precisely controlled at 2.3-17.2 nm by regulating the volume of the reactant solution added dropwise. Depending on the shell thickness, the plasmonic characteristics of SiO2@Au NS prepared by the proposed method could be tuned. Moreover, SiO2@Au NS exhibited surface-enhanced Raman scattering activity comparable to that of gold nanoshells prepared by a previously reported low-throughput method at the same reactant ratio. The results indicate that the proposed high-throughput synthesis method involving the use of a dual-channel infusion system will contribute to improving the productivity of SiO2@Au NS with tunable plasmonic characteristics.

RESUMO

Inverted colloidal-nanocrystal-based LEDs (NC-LEDs) are highly interesting and invaluable for large-scale display technology and flexible electronics. Semiconductor nanorods (NRs), in addition to the tunable wavelengths of the emitted light (achieved, for example, by the variation of the NR diameter or the diameter of core in a core-shell configuration), also exhibit linearly polarized emission, a larger Stokes shift, faster radiative decay, and slower bleaching kinetics than quantum dots (QDs). Despite these advantages, it is difficult to achieve void-free active NR layers using simple spin-coating techniques. Herein, we employ electrophoretic deposition (EPD) to make closely packed, vertically aligned CdSe/CdS core/shell nanorods (NRs) as the emissive layer. Following an inverted architecture, the device fabricated yields an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 6.3% and a maximum luminance of 4320 cd/m2 at 11 V. This good performance can be attributed to the vertically aligned NR layer, enhancing the charge transport by reducing the resistance of carrier passage, which is supported by our finite element simulations. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time vertically aligned NR layers made by EPD have been reported for the fabrication of NC-LEDs and the device performance is one of the best for inverted red NR-LEDs. The findings presented in this work bring forth a simple and effective technique for making vertically aligned NRs, and the mechanism behind the NR-LED device with enhanced performance using these NRs is illustrated. This technique may prove useful to the development of a vast class of nanocrystal-based optoelectronics, including solar cells and laser devices.

RESUMO

Chronic viral hepatitis is a significant public health concern in the Western Pacific, including in Vietnam and the Philippines. To accelerate progress toward meeting the 2030 elimination goals, the World Health Organization (WHO) encourages countries to adopt an integrated, people-centered health sector response to hepatitis, grounded in Primary Health Care (PHC). A review of the academic and grey literature, along with policy documents, was conducted to describe the national health system and PHC response to hepatitis B and C in Vietnam and the Philippines. Information was analyzed against the four strategic levers of the WHO Operational Framework for PHC to identify challenges and opportunities. The findings suggest that both countries have relatively robust policy frameworks, with some room for improvement. Vietnam may have stronger political commitment and funding than the Philippines, while the Philippines appears to be stronger in community engagement. Both countries share challenges and opportunities for learning to actualize viral hepatitis elimination utilizing a PHC approach.

RESUMO

Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in millions of deaths and widespread socio-economic damage worldwide. Therefore, numerous studies have been conducted to identify effective measures to control the spreading of the virus. Among various potential targets, the 3 chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro), also known as Mpro, stands out as the key protease of SARS-CoV-2, playing an essential role in virus replication and assembly, is the most prospective. In this study, we modified the commercial vector, pETM33-Nsp5-Mpro (plasmid # 156475, Addgene, USA), by inserting an autocleavage site (AVLQ) of 3CLpro and 6 × His-tag encoding sequences before and after the Nsp5-Mpro sequence, respectively. This modification enabled the expression of 3CLpro as an authentic N terminal protease (au3CLpro), which was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity by a single-step chromatography using two tandem Glutathione- and Ni-Sepharose columns. The enzyme au3CLpro demonstrated significantly higher activity (3169 RFU/min/µg protein) and catalytic efficiency (Kcat/Km of 0.007 µM-1.s-1) than that of the 3CLpro (com3CLpro) expressed from the commercial vector (pETM33-Nsp5-Mpro) with specific activity 889 RFU/min/µg and Kcat/Km of 0.0015 µM-1.s-1, respectively. Optimal conditions for au3CLpro activity included a 50 mM Tris-HCl buffer at pH 7, containing 150 mM NaCl and 0.1 mg/ml BSA at 37 °C.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To compare maternal outcome measures in surgical management of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS)-the modified one-step conservative uterine surgery (MOSCUS), a new approach at Tu Du Hospital in Vietnam, versus cesarean hysterectomy, and to identify factors that appear to contribute to the successful outcome of the MOSCUS. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted at Tu Du Hospital in southern Vietnam between January 2019 and December 2020. The study enrolled all pregnant women at more than 28 weeks of pregnancy with a diagnosis of PAS who underwent either a cesarean hysterectomy or a uterus-preserving approach using the MOSCUS method. RESULTS: The prevalence of PAS at our single tertiary referral hospital was 0.4% (619 PAS cases/132 518 births) in 2 years. Among 296 patients, the surgical time duration, estimated blood loss, and red blood cell transfusion in the MOSCUS group (n = 217) were all significantly less than in the cesarean hysterectomy group (n = 79) (152.72 ± 42.23 vs 185.13 ± 58.22 min, 1000 vs 1500 mL, and 500 vs 710 mL, respectively). Intraoperatively, the rate of visceral injuries in the hysterectomy group was higher than that in the MOSCUS group (P < 0.001). However, the rate of postoperative infection was higher in the MOSCUS group than in the cesarean hysterectomy group (P = 0.012). Of a total of 217 cases managed using the MOSCUS management, 24 required a secondary hysterectomy; the success rate was 88.9% (95% confidence interval [CI] 84.3%-93.1%). Some of the primary factors associated with the success of MOSCUS included maternal age less than 35 years, planned surgery, severity of PAS, and estimated blood loss during surgery (odds ratio [OR] 5.16, 95% CI 1.96-13.59; OR 3.05, 95% CI 1.08-8.62; OR 3.62, 95% CI 1.19-10.98; and OR 49.66, 95% CI 11.16-221.02, respectively; P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: MOSCUS is an acceptable alternative to cesarean hysterectomy in many patients diagnosed with PAS. This new surgical management of PAS resulted in the preservation of the uterus, and a favorable outcome in nearly 9 out of 10 pregnant women. We believe that MOSCUS can be safely offered for the management of PAS in referral hospital settings.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The study aimed to protect patients' skin against ionizing irradiation during radiotherapy by using astaxanthin-encapsulated nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC-ATX). MATERIALS AND METHODS: NLC-ATX was prepared by a combined method of hot homogenization and sonication. Cytotoxicity of NLC-ATX was evaluated by MTT colorimetric assay. The in vitro radioprotection of NLC-ATX for human fibroblast (HF) cells was investigated based on the level of ROS (reactive oxygen species), DNA damage, and cell death caused by X-irradiation. In addition, the in vivo radioprotection was evaluated based on the appearance and histological structure of the irradiated skin. RESULTS: NLC-ATX was successfully prepared, with a mean particle size, zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency of 114.4 nm, -34.1 mV, and 85.67%, respectively. Compared to the control, NLC-ATX, at an optimum ATX concentration under in vitro condition, reduced the amount of generated ROS and DNA damage of 81.6% and 41.6%, respectively, after X-radiation, resulting in a significant decrease in cell death by 62.69%. Under in vivo condition, after the 9th day of X-irradiation (equivalent to an accumulated dose of 14 Gy), the dorsal skin of five out of six NLC-ATX-untreated mice exhibited grade-1 skin damage, according to CTCAE v5.0, while treatment with NLC-ATX protected 6/6 mice from acute skin damage. Moreover, on the 28th day after the first X-irradiation, the histological images illustrated that NLC-ATX at an ATX concentration of 0.25 µg/mL exhibited good recovery of the skin, with barely any difference noted in the collagen fibers and sebaceous glands compared to normal skin. CONCLUSIONS: NLC-ATX shows potential for application in skin protection against adverse effects of ionizing rays during radiotherapy.

RESUMO

In recent year, Asia has rapid economic growth and policy makers care about the renewable energy consumption. The motivation about the choice of variables with theory and empirical backing on the subject in the manuscript is the theory of Cobb- Douglas function and determinants of renewable energy consumption in the Asian countries. This paper investigates the nexus of electricity consumption, fossil fuel consumption, foreign direct investment inflows, economic growth, and renewable energy consumption in Asian countries. Utilizing panel data analysis, the study finds significant interrelationships among these factors and highlights their implications for energy policy and sustainable development in the region. This article aims to use the Cobb- Douglas Model to analyze the factors affecting renewable energy consumption at Asian developed countries for sustainable development goals. This study collected data from World Bank in the period 2000-2020 of 06 developed countries such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Israel and China. The empirical research results show that the electricity consumption, fossil fuel consumption, foreign direct investment inflows, economic growth affect the environmental pollution in 06 Asian developed countries. The electricity consumption, foreign direct investment inflows, economic growth positively affect to the renewable energy consumption. If the electricity consumption increases 1 % then the renewable energy consumption up 0.6 %; if the foreign direct investment inflows up 1 % then the renewable energy consumption up 0.82 %; If the economic growth up 1 % then renewable energy up 2.73 %. In addition, fossil fuel consumption negatively affects the renewable energy consumption. If the fossil fuel consumption increases 1 % then the renewable energy consumption down 0.26 %. The paper offers conclusions and recommendations for Asian countries to address these interconnected issues and transition towards a more sustainable energy future.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Subclavian artery stenosis and occlusion are common arterial diseases in the upper extremities, with atherosclerosis being the main cause. Endovascular treatment has emerged as a promising alternative to open surgical repair, but data are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of endovascular procedures in the treatment of subclavian artery lesions at a tertiary vascular center in Vietnam. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent endovascular treatment for symptomatic subclavian artery stenosis or occlusion between October 2013 and April 2022. Clinical characteristics, procedural details, short- and long-term outcomes, and patency rates were assessed. RESULTS: Twenty-five patients were included in the study, with a mean age of 56.8 years. The majority of patients had risk factors for atherosclerosis, and all presented with symptoms related to subclavian artery disease. The endovascular procedures were successful in 96% of cases, with a low complication rate of 8%. During a median follow-up of 43 months, the overall patency rate was 92% at three years. CONCLUSION: Endovascular treatment of subclavian artery stenosis and occlusion is a safe and effective option, with excellent long-term patency rates. These findings support the use of percutaneous revascularization as the first-line therapy, particularly in experienced centers. Further studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are needed to confirm these results.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prompt and precise identification of black flies (Simuliidae) is crucial, given their biting behaviour and significant impact on human and animal health. To address the challenges presented by morphology and chromosomes in black fly taxonomy, along with the limited availability of molecular data pertaining to the black fly fauna in Vietnam, this study employed DNA-based approaches. Specifically, we used mitochondrial and nuclear-encoded genes to distinguish nominal species of black flies in Vietnam. METHODS: In this study, 135 mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences were established for 45 species in the genus Simulium in Vietnam, encompassing three subgenera (Gomphostilbia, Nevermannia, and Simulium), with 64 paratypes of 27 species and 16 topotypes of six species. Of these COI sequences, 71, representing 27 species, are reported for the first time. RESULTS: Combined with GenBank sequences of specimens from Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, a total of 234 DNA barcodes of 53 nominal species resulted in a 71% success rate for species identification. Species from the non-monophyletic Simulium asakoae, S. feuerborni, S. multistriatum, S. striatum, S. tuberosum, and S. variegatum species groups were associated with ambiguous or incorrect identifications. Pairwise distances, phylogenetics, and species delimitation analyses revealed a high level of cryptic diversity, with discovery of 15 cryptic taxa. The current study also revealed the limited utility of a fast-evolving nuclear gene, big zinc finger (BZF), in discriminating closely related, morphologically similar nominal species of the S. asakoae species group. CONCLUSION: This study represents the first comprehensive molecular genetic analysis of the black fly fauna in Vietnam to our knowledge, providing a foundation for future research. DNA barcoding exhibits varying levels of differentiating efficiency across species groups but is valuable in the discovery of cryptic diversity.

RESUMO

Rapid, accurate, and convenient diagnosis is essential for effective disease management. Various detection methods, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, have been extensively used, with lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) recently emerging as a major diagnostic tool. Nanoparticles (NPs) with characteristic optical properties are used as probes for LFIA, and researchers have presented various types of optical NPs with modified optical properties. Herein, we review the literature on LFIA with optical NPs for the detection of specific targets in the context of diagnostics.

RESUMO

Aerogels are becoming a promising platform to fabricate photothermal materials for use in solar steam generation (SSG), which have remarkable application potential in solar desalination, due to their excellent thermal management, salt resistance, and considerable water evaporation rate. In this work, a novel photothermal material is fabricated by forming a suspension between sugarcane bagasse fibers (SBF) and poly(vinyl alcohol), tannic acid (TA), and Fe3+ solutions via hydrogen bonds of hydroxyl groups. After freeze drying, the fabricated SBF aerogel-based photothermal (SBFAP) material possesses a 3D interconnected porous microstructure, which could enhance water transportation ability, reduce thermal conductivity, and quickly dissolve salt crystals on the SBFAP surface. Thanks to the formation of micro/nanosized complexes between TA and Fe3+ ions on the SBFAP material, the SBFAP exhibits high light capture and water evaporation rate (2.28 kg m-2 h-1). In particular, due to strong hydrogen bonding and the SBF, the SBFAP material is reinforced, thereby exhibiting excellent structural stability in seawater. Moreover, the high salt tolerance of SBFAP favors its high desalination performance for at least 76 days of continuous evaporation under actual conditions. This research paves the way for the fabrication of natural cellulose fiber-based photothermal materials for application in solar desalination.

RESUMO

We characterized the genetic structure of 609 strains of Pyricularia oryzae, the fungal pathogen causing rice blast disease, in three main regions in Vietnam using microsatellites (SSR) markers. From the 447 distinct multilocus genotypes identified, six genetic clusters were defined, all of them showing elevated genetic and genotypic diversities. Four of these clusters were related to rice-attacking lineages already described at the worldwide scale, whereas the two remaining clusters were endemic to Vietnam. Strains were unevenly distributed into the six clusters depending on their groups of rice variety (indica / japonica) or type of varieties (traditional / modern) of origin, but none of the clusters was specifically related to these two factors. The highest diversity of blast population was found in Northern mountainous area, and the lowest in Red River Delta in both terms of genetic diversity and gene diversity. Hierarchical AMOVAs confirmed that all three factors considered (rice variety group, type of variety origin and geography) significantly contributed to the population structure of P. oryzae in Vietnam, with highest contribution from rice variety group. Mating types were unevenly distributed among clusters. Combined with results of female fertility and linkage disequilibirum, we hypothesized that clonal reproduction probably occurred in all clusters, but that sexual reproduction likely took place at least in some restricted areas in the Northern mountainous area for strains belonging to the cluster related to the previously described recombinant lineage (worldwide lineage 1). Our study pictures the genetic diversity, population structure and reproductive mode of the blast fungus in central and north Vietnam, and shows that the observed population structure is explained by several factors, the most important one being the variability of rice variety. All these new information might help for elaborating appropriate strategies to controlling the blast disease.
