RESUMO

Cowpea is known for its high protein content (18-25%) and also chiefly raised for green fodder. The infesting pests, pod borer and aphids are the most destructive ones. To control these pests, chlorantraniliprole emerges as a promising molecule. Thus, its needs to assess the dissipation nature of the chlorantraniliprole. Hence, a trial was conducted at IIVR, Varanasi, India. The residue analysis was done through solid phase extraction method followed by gas chromatoghraphy analysis. The analytical method was standardized and validated according to international standard. The half-life of chlorantraniliprole in cowpea pods was estimated in the range of 2.79- 2.33 days in the year-I and 2.51-2.32 days in the year-II for single dose (SD) and double dose (DD) respectively. Similarly, half-life of the chlorantraniliprole in leaves 2.43-2.27 days whereas, 1.94-1.70 days in case of soil. The exposure of the residues in pods were less than maximum permissible intake (MPI). The RQ values revealed that there could be negligible risk to earthworms and arthropods. Washing with boiling water was found the most effective decontamination treatment to remove residue from cowpea pods. Thus, it could be concluded that chlorantraniliprole does not pose any significant threat when uses in cowpea in a particular dose.

RESUMO

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the presence of abnormal protein bundles in the brain tissue, but experts are not yet sure what is causing the condition. To find a cure or aversion, researchers need to know more than just that there are protein differences from the usual; they also need to know how these brain nerves form so that a remedy may be discovered. Machine learning is the study of computational approaches for enhancing performance on a specific task through the process of learning. This article presents an Alzheimer's disease detection framework consisting of image denoising of an MRI input data set using an adaptive mean filter, preprocessing using histogram equalization, and feature extraction by Haar wavelet transform. Classification is performed using LS-SVM-RBF, SVM, KNN, and random forest classifier. An adaptive mean filter removes noise from the existing MRI images. Image quality is enhanced by histogram equalization. Experimental results are compared using parameters such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, and recall.

RESUMO

Intra-amniotic exposure to proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-1) correlates with a decreased incidence of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in infants following premature birth. At birth, inadequate absorption of fluid from the fetal lung contributes to the onset RDS. Lung fluid clearance is coupled to Na+ transport via epithelial sodium channels (ENaC). In this study, we assessed the effects of IL-1 on the expression of ENaC, particularly the α-subunit which is critical for fetal lung fluid clearance at birth. Cultured mouse lung epithelial (MLE-12) cells were treated with either IL-1α or IL-1ß to determine their effects on α-ENaC expression. Changes in IL-1-induced α-ENaC levels in the presence of IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra), cycloheximide, NF-κB inhibitor, and MAP kinase inhibitors were investigated. IL-1α and IL-1ß independently induced a significant increase of α-ENaC mRNA and protein after 24 h compared to untreated cells. IL-1-dependent increases in α-ENaC protein were mitigated by IL-1ra and cycloheximide. IL-1 exposure induced NF-κB binding activity. Attenuation of IL-1-induced NF-κB activation by its inhibitor SN50 decreased α-ENaC protein abundance. Inhibition of ERK 1,2 MAPK significantly decreased both IL-1α and ß-induced α-ENaC protein expression whereas inhibition of p38 MAPK only blocked IL-1ß-induced α-ENaC protein levels. In contrast, IL-1-induced α-ENaC protein levels were unaffected by a c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) inhibitor. Our results suggest that in MLE-12 cells, IL-1-induced elevation of α-ENaC is mediated via NF-κB activation and in part involves stimulation of the ERK 1,2 and p38 MAPK signaling pathways.

RESUMO

Several susceptibility genes have been associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) across different populations worldwide. However, data on association between genetic polymorphisms and SLE from Indian population is scarce. We aimed to replicate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ITGAM, TNFSF4, TNFAIP3 and STAT4 genes with susceptibility to SLE in a North Indian population. Three hundred and ninety-four SLE patients and 583 unrelated healthy controls of the same ethnic background were enrolled. All samples were genotyped for SNPs in ITGAM (rs1143679), TNFSF4 (rs2205960), TNFAIP3 (rs5029939) and STAT4 (rs7574865) using TaqMan genotyping assay. At allele level, significant association with susceptibility to SLE was detected with polymorphisms in ITGAM (A vs. G, odds ratio (OR) = 1.73, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.30-2.30, p < 0.001), TNFSF4 (T vs. G, OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.08-1.64, p < 0.01), TNFAIP3 (G vs. C, OR = 1.91, 95% CI = 1.27-2.85, p < 0.01) and STAT4 (T vs. G, OR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.13-1.69, p < 0.01). All four SNPs were associated with SLE under a dominant model with an OR of 1.47 (95% CI = 1.07-2.04, p < 0.05) for ITGAM, 1.30 (95% CI = 1.01-1.69, p < 0.05) for TNFSF4, 1.90 (95% CI = 1.25-2.90, p < 0.01) for TNFAIP3 and 1.38 (95% CI = 1.06-1.78, p < 0.05) for STAT4. Under a recessive model, significant association was found with ITGAM (OR = 4.87, 95% CI = 2.17-10.91, p < 0.001), TNFSF4 (OR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.13-3.00, p < 0.05) and STAT4 (OR = 1.82, 95% CI = 1.19-2.77, p < 0.01). In conclusion, single nucleotide polymorphisms in ITGAM, TNFSF4, TNFAIP3 and STAT4 genes are associated with susceptibility to SLE in a North Indian population.

RESUMO

Fractional order system is playing an increasingly important role in terms of both theory and applications. In this paper we investigate the global existence of Filippov solutions and the robust generalized Mittag-Leffler synchronization of fractional order neural networks with discontinuous activation and impulses. By means of growth conditions, differential inclusions and generalized Gronwall inequality, a sufficient condition for the existence of Filippov solution is obtained. Then, sufficient criteria are given for the robust generalized Mittag-Leffler synchronization between discontinuous activation function of impulsive fractional order neural network systems with (or without) parameter uncertainties, via a delayed feedback controller and M-Matrix theory. Finally, four numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of our main results.

RESUMO

Vegetable edible oils and fats are mainly used for frying purposes in households and the food industry. The oil undergoes degradation during frying and hence has to be replaced from time to time. Rhamnolipids are produced by microbial cultivation using refined vegetable oils as a carbon source and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 10145). The raw material cost accounts for 10-30% of the overall cost of biosurfactant production and can be reduced by using low-cost substrates. In this research, attention was focused on the preparation of rhamnolipids, which are biosurfactants, using potential frying edible oils as a carbon source via a microbial fermentation technique. The use of low-cost substrates as a carbon source was emphasized to tilt the cost of production for rhamnolipids. The yield was 2.8 g/L and 7.5 g/L from waste frying oil before and after activated earth treatment, respectively. The crude product contained mainly dirhamnolipids, confirmed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), and (1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Hence, the treatment can be used to convert waste frying oil as a low-cost substrate into a cost-effective carbon source.

RESUMO

Biosurfactants are microbially synthesized surfactants that are environmental friendly due to low toxicity. Sophorolipid is one of the simplest biosurfactants with well-defined structure produced by Starmerella bombicola(ATCC 22214) on glucose and vegetable oil as the carbon source. The raw material cost accounts for 10-30% of the overall cost. Glycerol is readily available from a commercial fat-splitting process as sweetwater at a very low cost. Sophorolipids was synthesized using glycerol and sweetwater as a cost-effective carbon source. The glycerol was further replaced with sweetwater as a source of glycerol. Optimum glycerol concentration was 15% w/v with 10% w/v sunflower oil, giving 6.6 g/L of sophorolipids. The crude sophorolipid contains two major components; both of them were lactonic sophorolipids as analyzed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), and nuclear magnetic resonance ((1)H-NMR).

RESUMO

To assess the clinical safety of equine rabies immunoglobulin (ERIG) and purified vero cell rabies vaccine (PVRV) administered intradermally in children for post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies, a study was carried out among 1494 children < 15 years of age having category III exposure to animal bite at the antirabies clinic of community medicine department of MKCG Medical College Hospital, Berhampur, Orissa from 1st May 2007 to 31st March 2008. The patients received 0.1 ml of PVRV intradermally at two sites on days 0, 3, 7 and 28. The PVRV (Abhayrab) supplied by Government of Orissa had an antigen content of > or = 2.5 IU per 0.5 ml vial. ERIG (Equirab) was also given on day 0 as per WHO guideline. As much of the immunoglobulin as possible was infiltrated around the wounds after skin test. Side effects were monitored during the follow up visits on days 3, 7 and 28. One hundred & eight children (7.2%) showed positive reaction to the skin test dose of ERIG. These patients could not afford HRIG and were administered ERIG after premedication with oral antihistamine (Levocetrizine). There were no serious systemic side-effects but local side-effects like induration, erythema, pruritus are due to the intradermal rabies vaccination (IDRV) and pain, induration due to ERIG. Low grade fever and malaise were the only systemic side effects observed. None of the children had anaphylaxis or regional lymphadenopathy. Only 3% of children had mild serum sickness like symptoms by days 5 & 7 which subsided with oral analgesics and antihistamines. Our study showed that administration of ERIG & PVRV by intradermal route in children with WHO category-III rabies exposure is safe.

RESUMO

Tracheal agenesis is a rare but uniformly fatal congenital condition that obstetricians, neonatologists or anaesthesiologists may encounter as an unexpected emergency. Ventilation with bag and mask or through an endotracheal tube placed in the oesophagus may be the only options left for immediate survival and evaluation. Ventilation and maintenance of adequate oxygenation can be difficult during surgical interventions. We report a case of neonate in which ventilation and anaesthesia were maintained through an endotracheal tube in the oesophagus and frequent episodes of drop in oxygen saturation were observed during surgery. Anaesthetic management, airway and other issues are discussed.

RESUMO

Gunshot wounds to the head are usually mortal injuries. We present a unique case of intracranial ricocheting of bullet without neurological deficits. Patient was treated conservatively with antibiotics for one week and prophylactic anticonvulsants for six weeks. Patient is doing well at six months follow up. Repeat X-ray skull showed that bullet was lying in the occipital region. It is recommended that deep seated bullets should be left behind as any attempt to remove that bullet may increase the morbidity and mortality. However close follow up of these patients is very important as these patients may come back with brain abscess.

RESUMO

Provided the measuring time is short enough, the full counting statistics (FCS) of the charge pumped across a barrier as a result of a series of voltage pulses are shown to be equivalent to the geometry of two planes. This formulation leads to the FCS without the need for the usual nonequilibrium (Keldysh) transport theory or the direct computation of the determinant of an infinite-dimensional matrix. In the particular case of the application of N Lorentzian pulses, we show the computation of the FCS reduces to the diagonalization of an N x N matrix. We also use the formulation to compute the core-hole response in the x-ray edge problem and the FCS for a square wave pulse-train for the case of low transmission.

RESUMO

We report the first case in the English literature of an isolated occurrence of accessory limb with multiple dermal appendages in a ten-month-old boy. This condition presented at birth as a limb bud below the left eyelid, multiple dermal appendages in the adjacent part of the face below the left orbit and on the upper part of the face. No anomalies of the ocular structures or central nervous system were identified. Accessory limb with multiple dermal appendages, in the absence of a congenital cystic eye, is an extremely rare condition representing a benign aberration in the developing musculoskeletal system. We present the first of such a case and endeavour to explain the embryological basis behind it.

RESUMO

Congenital unilateral lower lip palsy is a rare but well-known limited variation of congenital unilateral facial palsy. We report a three-month-old boy with diaphragmatic eventration and isolated lower lip palsy, a combination that to our knowledge, has not been described before. Probable causes of this combination of multiple congenital malformations, in this case, could be due to nonrandom and heterogeneous mutations. The diaphragmatic eventration was treated successfully.

RESUMO

We report a pair of twins with variable expressions of Fryns syndrome, both of whom died in the neonatal period. The syndrome is characterised by craniofacial dysmorphism, diaphragmatic hernia and distal limb hypoplasia. With this report, there are a total of 83 cases reported in the literature and this further serves to illustrate the clinical variability of this disorder.

RESUMO

Apert syndrome is characterised by craniosynostosis, associated with maxillary hypoplasia, symmetrical syndactyly of the hands and feet, and other systemic malformations including mental retardation. Apert syndrome and septo-optic dysplasia is rarely described. We describe the classical clinical and radiological findings of this syndrome in a 20-year-old woman. Though early surgical intervention is imperative for optimal outcome, in developing countries, it may not be possible to intervene at the right time due to financial constraints.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Single photon emission tomography scan (SPECT) is used to measure cerebral blood flow (CBF) and also cerebral vascular reserve (CVR) after intravenous acetazolamide (ACZ) challenge. This prospective study was designed to test the utility of CVR in congenital hydrocephalus (CHC). METHODS: Patients (n = 21, mean age 6.2 m) with CHC underwent a baseline ultrasonography (US), retinal fundus examination (RF), neurological score (NS), and SPECT to evaluate CVR after intravenous ACZ. Monthly US, RF, NS, CBF, and CVR were evaluated. RESULTS: Ten patients showed good CVR and also had stable NS and RF despite mild to moderate ventriculomegaly and were followed up on conservative treatment. None of these patients in a mean follow-up period of 9.8 months showed deterioration. Eleven patients, who had poor CVR initially, were also treated conservatively. Over a period of 4 months, 8 patients showed a fall in CVR to < 30 % of baseline and a fall in NS despite RF and US remaining the same and hence were operated. Five of these operated cases showed an improvement in CVR and NS over a mean follow-up period of 4 months and the remaining 3 patients failed to show improvement in CVR and NS. CONCLUSIONS: In CHC, CVR measured by ACZ challenge test is a sensitive parameter as alterations in CVR occur prior to changes in other conventional parameters such as ventriculomegaly and RF. Patients with normal CVR at presentation are unlikely to deteriorate and can safely be managed conservatively. Patients who show a deterioration in CVR should be considered for prompt surgery.

RESUMO

The saliva of habitual chewers of tobacco and of non- chewers was examined using high-performance liquid chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography-thermal energy analysis. N-Nitrosodimethylamine, N-nitrosodiethylamine, N-nitrosopyrrolidine, N-nitrosonornicotine and N- nitrosohydroxyproline were detected in the saliva from the tobacco chewers . These N-nitroso compounds are probably leached from the tobacco itself and/or are formed in situ by the nitrosation of tobacco alkaloids as well as that of secondary amines. No N-nitroso compounds were detected in the saliva of non- chewers .
