RESUMO

Because of the half-filled t_{2g}-electron configuration, the BO_{6} octahedral distortion in a 3d^{3} perovskite system is usually very limited. In this Letter, a perovskitelike oxide Hg_{0.75}Pb_{0.25}MnO_{3} (HPMO) with a 3d^{3} Mn^{4+} state was synthesized by using high pressure and high temperature methods. This compound exhibits an unusually large octahedral distortion enhanced by approximately 2 orders of magnitude compared with that observed in other 3d^{3} perovskite systems like RCr^{3+}O_{3} (R=rare earth). Essentially different from centrosymmetric HgMnO_{3} and PbMnO_{3}, the A-site doped HPMO presents a polar crystal structure with the space group Ama2 and a substantial spontaneous electric polarization (26.5 µC/cm^{2} in theory) arising from the off-center displacements of A- and B-site ions. More interestingly, a prominent net photocurrent and switchable photovoltaic effect with a sustainable photoresponse were observed in the current polycrystalline HPMO. This Letter provides an exceptional d^{3} material system which shows unusually large octahedral distortion and displacement-type ferroelectricity violating the "d^{0}-ness" rule.

RESUMO

Using femtosecond time-resolved x-ray diffraction, we investigated optically excited coherent acoustic phonons in the Weyl semimetal TaAs. The low symmetry of the (112) surface probed in our experiment enables the simultaneous excitation of longitudinal and shear acoustic modes, whose dispersion closely matches our simulations. We observed an asymmetry in the spectral line shape of the longitudinal mode that is notably absent from the shear mode, suggesting a time-dependent frequency chirp that is likely driven by photoinduced carrier diffusion. We argue on the basis of symmetry that these acoustic deformations can transiently alter the electronic structure near the Weyl points and support this with model calculations. Our study underscores the benefit of using off-axis crystal orientations when optically exciting acoustic deformations in topological semimetals, allowing one to transiently change their crystal and electronic structures.

RESUMO

Symmetry plays a central role in conventional and topological phases of matter, making the ability to optically drive symmetry changes a critical step in developing future technologies that rely on such control. Topological materials, like topological semimetals, are particularly sensitive to a breaking or restoring of time-reversal and crystalline symmetries, which affect both bulk and surface electronic states. While previous studies have focused on controlling symmetry via coupling to the crystal lattice, we demonstrate here an all-electronic mechanism based on photocurrent generation. Using second harmonic generation spectroscopy as a sensitive probe of symmetry changes, we observe an ultrafast breaking of time-reversal and spatial symmetries following femtosecond optical excitation in the prototypical type-I Weyl semimetal TaAs. Our results show that optically driven photocurrents can be tailored to explicitly break electronic symmetry in a generic fashion, opening up the possibility of driving phase transitions between symmetry-protected states on ultrafast timescales.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the clinical effects of autologous skin paste in repairing medium-thickness skin donor site wounds. Methods: The prospective randomized controlled research method was applied. From October 2018 to December 2019, 18 patients with flame burn or hydrothermal scald, conforming to the inclusion criteria were admitted to Jinhua Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, including 15 males and 3 females, aged (45±6) years. The wounds were repaired with medium-thickness skin grafts from thigh, and the wound area was (121±33) cm2 after medium-thickness skin grafting. The medium-thickness skin donor site wound in each patient was divided into 2 wounds in equal area and allocated into autologous skin paste group and conventional treatment group by flipping a coin, with 18 wounds in each group. The wounds in autologous skin paste group were repaired with skin paste prepared with remaining skin fragments after autologous medium-thickness skin grafting, and the wounds in conventional treatment group were covered with petroleum jelly gauze and fixed with sterile gauze. On 3, 7, 14, and 21 d after operation, the wound healing in 2 groups was observed, and the wound healing rate was calculated. The wound healing time in 2 groups was recorded. Occurrences of wound subcutaneous effusion and infection on 3, 7, 14, and 21 d after operation and wound ulceration in 3 months after operation were observed. In 6 months after operation, the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) was used to evaluate the scar formation of wounds in 2 groups. Data were statistically analyzed with analysis of variance for repeated measurement, chi-square test, and group t test. Results: The wounds in 2 groups did not heal on 3 and 7 d after operation. The wound healing rate in autologous skin paste group was (29.8±2.5)% and (95.6±4.7)% on 14 and 21 d after operation, which were significantly higher than (25.8±2.9)% and (82.6±8.9)% in conventional treatment group (t=4.3, 5.6, P<0.01). The wound healing time in autologous skin paste group was (21.8±1.6) d, which was significantly shorter than (25.6±2.0) d in conventional treatment group (t=6.24, P<0.01). On 3, 7, 14, and 21 d after operation, there were no complications such as subcutaneous effusion or infection in wounds of 2 groups. In 3 months after operation, ulceration occurred in wounds of 2 patients in autologous skin paste group, which was significantly less than 12 patients in conventional treatment group (χ2=11.688, P<0.01). The ulcerated wounds healed after dressing changes. In 6 months after operation, the VSS score of wounds in autologous skin paste group was (9.1±1.1) points, which was significantly lower than (11.3±1.2) points in conventional treatment group (t=-5.75, P<0.01). Conclusions: The remaining skin fragments after autologous medium-thickness skin grafting prepared into skin paste to repair medium-thickness skin donor site wounds can shorten wound healing time, improve wound healing quality, and reduce degree of scar hyperplasia, with a good clinical effect.

RESUMO

The ternary AMnBi_{2} (A is alkaline as well as rare-earth atom) materials provide an arena for investigating the interplay between low-dimensional magnetism of the antiferromagnetic MnBi layers and the electronic states in the intercalated Bi layers, which harbor relativistic fermions. Here, we report on a comprehensive study of the optical properties and magnetic torque response of Ca_{1-x}Na_{x}MnBi_{2}. Our findings give evidence for a spin canting occurring at T_{s}∼50-100 K. With the support of first-principles calculations we establish a direct link between the spin canting and the reconstruction of the electronic band structure, having immediate implications for the spectral weight reshuffling in the optical response, signaling a partial gapping of the Fermi surface, and the dc transport properties below T_{s}.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: Aconitum is one of the most widely used Chinese herbal medicines, and aconitine is the major toxic component in it. Aconitine can induce a variety of arrhythmias, resulting in death. Acute ethanol consumption causes arrhythmia as well. Poisoning cases caused by aconitum medicinal liquor are frequently encountered in the practice of forensic medicine. The molecular mechanisms of myocardial toxicity of these two drugs have much in common, and both of them affect the sodium channel, calcium channel and potassium channel of myocardial cell membrane and so on. This paper analyzes and discusses the possible co-effects of ethanol-aconitine on cardiomyocyte channel proteins, by reviewing researches on the mechanism of cardiotoxicity of ethanol and aconitine in recent years, in order to provide ideas and references for the research on the molecular mechanism of arrhythmia caused by combined poisoning.

RESUMO

By means of infrared spectroscopy, we determine the temperature-doping phase diagram of the Fano effect for the in-plane Fe-As stretching mode in Ba_{1-x}K_{x}Fe_{2}As_{2}. The Fano parameter 1/q^{2}, which is a measure of the phonon coupling to the electronic particle-hole continuum, shows a remarkable sensitivity to the magnetic and structural orderings at low temperatures. Most strikingly, at elevated temperatures in the paramagnetic tetragonal state we observe a linear correlation between 1/q^{2} and the superconducting critical temperature T_{c}. Based on theoretical calculations and symmetry considerations, we identify the relevant interband transitions that are coupled to the Fe-As mode. In particular, we show that a sizable xy orbital component at the Fermi level is fundamental for the Fano effect and, thus, possibly also for the superconducting pairing.

RESUMO

We investigate polarization-dependent ultrafast photocurrents in the Weyl semimetal TaAs using terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy. Our results reveal that highly directional, transient photocurrents are generated along the noncentrosymmetric c axis regardless of incident light polarization, while helicity-dependent photocurrents are excited within the ab plane. This is consistent with earlier static photocurrent experiments, and demonstrates on the basis of both the physical constraints imposed by symmetry and the temporal dynamics intrinsic to current generation and decay that optically induced photocurrents in TaAs are inherent to the underlying crystal symmetry of the transition metal monopnictide family of Weyl semimetals.

RESUMO

We present an infrared spectroscopy study of ZrTe_{5}, which confirms a recent theoretical proposal that this material exhibits a temperature-driven topological quantum phase transition from a weak to a strong topological insulating state with an intermediate Dirac semimetal state around T_{p}≃138 K. Our study details the temperature evolution of the energy gap in the bulk electronic structure. We found that the energy gap closes around T_{p}, where the optical response exhibits characteristic signatures of a Dirac semimetal state, i.e., a linear frequency-dependent optical conductivity extrapolating to the origin (after subtracting a weak Drude response). This finding allows us to reconcile previous diverging reports about the topological nature of ZrTe_{5} in terms of a variation of T_{p} that depends on the crystal growth condition.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To test the changes of the potassium (K⁺) and magnesium (Mg²âºï¼‰ concentrations in vitreous humor of rabbits along with postmortem interval (PMI) under different temperatures, and explore the feasibility of PMI estimation using mixed-effect model. METHODS: After sacrifice, rabbit carcasses were preserved at 5 ℃, 15 ℃, 25 ℃ and 35 ℃, and 80-100 µL of vitreous humor was collected by the double-eye alternating micro-sampling method at every 12 h. The concentrations of K⁺ and Mg²âº in vitreous humor were measured by a biochemical-immune analyser. The mixed-effect model was used to perform analysis and fitting, and established the equations for PMI estimation. The data detected from the samples that were stoned at 10 ℃, 20 ℃ and 30 ℃ with 20, 40 and 65 h were used to validate the equations of PMI estimation. RESULTS: The concentrations of K⁺ and Mg²âº [f(x,y)] in vitreous humor of rabbits under different temperature increased along with PMI (x). The relative equations of K⁺ and Mg²âº concentration with PMI and temperature under 5 ℃~35 ℃ were fK⁺(x,y)=3.413 0+0.309 2 x+0.337 6 y+0.010 83 xy-0.002 47 x² (P<0.000 1), and fMg²âºï¼ˆx,y)=0.745 6+0.006 432 x+0.033 8 y (P<0.000 1), respectively. It was proved that the time of deviation for PMI estimation by K⁺ and Mg²âº was in 10 h when PMI was between 0 to 40 h, and the time of deviation was in 21 h when PMI was between 40 to 65 h. CONCLUSIONS: the ambient temperature range of 5 ℃-35 ℃, the mixed-effect model based on temperature and vitreous humor substance concentrations can provide a new method for the practical application of vitreous humor chemicals for PMI estimation.

RESUMO

Parity anomaly refers to the violation of coordinate reflection symmetry induced by the quantum fluctuations. It is proposed to exist in a graphene-like system with a finite bare mass for Dirac fermions, and manifests itself as a parity-violating quantum correction to the current of each species of fermions. Coulomb interaction greatly increases the fermion mass, and produces various types of excitons. Of particular interest is the ρ-exciton, which is directly connected to parity anomaly and can be generated by absorbing a specific photon. The exciton is a particle-hole bound state, and can be regarded as condensed-matter analogue of meson composed of quark-anti-quark pair. By virtue of this correspondence, we analyze the optical conductivity and calculate the mass of ρ-exciton by employing the Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov sum rule method that is widely used in the studies of hadron phenomenology. We show that ρ-exciton leads to a sharp peak in the optical conductivity, which is observable in optical experiments. Moreover, we study the impact of scalar-like excitons on two-photon processes by computing the decay amplitude, and also find peaks in the Raman spectra.

RESUMO

Strong coupling between discrete phonon and continuous electron-hole pair excitations can induce a pronounced asymmetry in the phonon line shape, known as the Fano resonance. This effect has been observed in various systems. Here we reveal explicit evidence for strong coupling between an infrared-active phonon and electronic transitions near the Weyl points through the observation of a Fano resonance in the Weyl semimetal TaAs. The resulting asymmetry in the phonon line shape, conspicuous at low temperatures, diminishes continuously with increasing temperature. This behaviour originates from the suppression of electronic transitions near the Weyl points due to the decreasing occupation of electronic states below the Fermi level (EF) with increasing temperature, as well as Pauli blocking caused by thermally excited electrons above EF. Our findings not only elucidate the mechanism governing the tunable Fano resonance but also open a route for exploring exotic physical phenomena through phonon properties in Weyl semimetals.

RESUMO

Slow spin dynamics has been observed in superconducting under-doped Ca0.9Ce0.1Fe2As2 single crystal. Below 100 K, the system exhibits hysteresis in the cooling and warming protocols of temperature dependent resistivity due to first order tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition with simultaneous magnetic transition from paramagnetic to spin density wave antiferromagnetic state of the iron (Fe) ions. Zero field cooled/field cooled (ZFC/FC) magnetization curves showed splitting at 32 K followed by a sharp increase of the FC curve and then FC plateau at low temperatures. Slow spin relaxation in both the ZFC and FC protocols was observed which is typical for spin-glass system. The system also showed features analogue to spin-glass behavior such as ZFC peak, FC plateau, ZFC slow spin relaxation, magnetic hysteresis, and ZFC ac memory effect. The spin-glass like behavior was rather weak and vanished at higher fields. The origin of the slow spin dynamics could be the inhomogeneous distribution of the cerium (Ce) spins ordered along the c-axis OR interactions between Fe and Ce spins which lead to magnetic frustration of Ce spins. All these findings support the coexistence of slow spin dynamics of Ce spins and superconductivity in Ca0.9Ce0.1Fe2As2 single crystal.

RESUMO

The optical properties of Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 have been determined in the normal state for a number of temperatures over a wide frequency range. Two Drude terms, representing two groups of carriers with different scattering rates (1/τ), well describe the real part of the optical conductivity σ1(ω). A "broad" Drude component results in an incoherent background with a T-independent 1/τb, while a "narrow" Drude component reveals a T-linear 1/τn resulting in a resistivity ρn≡1/σ1n(ω→0) also linear in temperature. An arctan(T) low-frequency spectral weight is also strong evidence for a T-linear 1/τ. A comparison to other materials with similar behavior suggests that the T-linear 1/τn and ρn in Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 originate from scattering from spin fluctuations and hence that an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point is likely to exist in the superconducting dome.

RESUMO

We present results of transport measurements on superconducting Nb films with diluted triangular arrays (honeycomb and kagomé) of holes. The patterned films have large disk-shaped interstitial regions even when the edge-to-edge separations between nearest neighboring holes are comparable to the coherence length. Changes in the field interval of two consecutive minima in the field dependent resistance R(H) curves are observed. In the low field region, fine structures in the R(H) and T(c)(H) curves are identified in both arrays. Comparison of experimental data with calculation results reveals that these structures observed in honeycomb and kagomé hole arrays resemble those in wire networks with triangular and T(3) symmetries, respectively. The findings suggest that even in these specified periodic hole arrays with very large interstitial regions, the low field fine structures are determined by the connectivity of the nanostructures.

RESUMO

As silicon is the basis of conventional electronics, so strontium titanate (SrTiO(3)) is the foundation of the emerging field of oxide electronics. SrTiO(3) is the preferred template for the creation of exotic, two-dimensional (2D) phases of electron matter at oxide interfaces that have metal-insulator transitions, superconductivity or large negative magnetoresistance. However, the physical nature of the electronic structure underlying these 2D electron gases (2DEGs), which is crucial to understanding their remarkable properties, remains elusive. Here we show, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, that there is a highly metallic universal 2DEG at the vacuum-cleaved surface of SrTiO(3) (including the non-doped insulating material) independently of bulk carrier densities over more than seven decades. This 2DEG is confined within a region of about five unit cells and has a sheet carrier density of ∼0.33 electrons per square lattice parameter. The electronic structure consists of multiple subbands of heavy and light electrons. The similarity of this 2DEG to those reported in SrTiO(3)-based heterostructures and field-effect transistors suggests that different forms of electron confinement at the surface of SrTiO(3) lead to essentially the same 2DEG. Our discovery provides a model system for the study of the electronic structure of 2DEGs in SrTiO(3)-based devices and a novel means of generating 2DEGs at the surfaces of transition-metal oxides.

RESUMO

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to detect filaria-specific urinary IgG4 was tested in samples from 203 children less than five years old and their parents (165 mothers and 127 fathers) in Sri Lanka. There were four IgG4-positive children within 58 days after birth, suggesting the transfer of the antibody from mothers. No positive children were found between days 65 and 417. After day 1,000, the number of the positive individuals and the level of IgG4 increased quickly. The children of urinary IgG4-positive parents showed a higher IgG4 positive rate than those of negative parents. The children of positive mothers had a higher prevalence than those of negative mothers, whereas, the positivity of the fathers was not associated with that of their children. Collecting urine samples was easy to perform and well accepted because of its non-invasiveness. The ELISA will be useful for monitoring filarial infections in very young children, who are a sentinel population for evaluating the intensity of filariasis transmission and effectiveness of control measures.

RESUMO

The ICT card test to detect circulating filarial antigen and an ELISA that detects filaria-specific urinary IgG(4) were each used to screen 473 subjects from a community in Sri Lanka where Wuchereria bancrofti is endemic. When the ICT test was used as the gold standard, the ELISA was found to have a sensitivity of 91.2%. However, far more of the subjects were found ELISA-positive than ICT-positive (76.5% v. 31.1%). The youngest children studied (aged 1-10 years) were similar to the adult subjects in terms of the prevalence of antigenaemia (33.8%) and the prevalence (72.1%) and concentration of filaria-specific IgG(4) in their urine. Therefore, especially as urine samples are easier, less painful and safer to collect than blood samples, the ELISA may be particularly useful to screen very young and school-age children, to estimate current levels of transmission in a particular area.

RESUMO

In Sri Lanka 2741 people from Matara, an endemic area for Wuchereria bancrofti, were examined in 1996/97 for microfilariae by 60-microL blood smear and for circulating filarial antigens by Og4C3 ELISA using filter paper-absorbed whole blood. The overall prevalence of microfilaraemia was 3.4%, and that of antigenaemia 14.4%. The prevalence of antigen-positive and microfilaria-negative people was 11.3%. Analysed by age-group, antigenaemia prevalence was similar in all groups, and the average number of antigen units was already very high in the age-group < 10 years, indicating that the infection started in early childhood. Among those who were antigen positive, the microfilaria prevalence was lower in females than in males. Diethylcarbamazine treatment eliminated microfilariae in 78% of the positives. However, 17 months after the treatment, antigenaemia was still positive in 76% of those who were parasitologically cured.

RESUMO

We report what is believed to be the first observation of lasing of an optically pumped thin CdS film formed by laser ablation on glass. Laser action is observed at room temperature, and the emission peak is at 501 nm. X-ray diffraction shows that the polycrystalline films are of wurtzite structure and have (002) preferred orientation. Fabry-Perot laser modes are spaced 16 nm apart, indicating a cavity length of 2.9mum . The cavity is formed by consistently self-formed microcavities within the hexagonal lattice.
