The study was undertaken to improve transport and selective culture media and a testing scheme for dysbacteriosis. Great emphasis is laid on methods for isolating and identifying the nonclostridial anaerobes which are the major component of the normal human intestinal microflora. The following media were proposed: a) a sterility-checking-up medium, hemin, vitamin K1, cysteine, and twin 80 was for transportation of samples to a laboratory; b) anaerobic blood-containing agar with selective additives (kanamycin and bile) for isolation of bacteroids; c) a propionic acid-containing medium for isolation of bifidobacteria; d) a acetic acid-containing medium for isolation of lactobacteria. The use of the above culture media, microanaerostats, and three-component gas mixture substantially enhanced the efficiency of microbiological diagnosis for intestinal dysbacteriosis.

The control at water supply on criteria of quantitative and qualitative adequacy--one the major sections of sanitary-and-epidemiologic supervision. To radical improvement of water supply of the population of the country, army and fleet are called to serve entered in action since July 1, 1997 Sanitary rules and norms 2.1.4.559-96 "Drinking water. The hygienic requirement to quality of water of centralized systems of drinking water supply. Quality surveillance". In the interest of increase of epidemiologic safety of drinking water in comparison with GOST 2874-82 specifications of microbiological parameters are severed and a parasitologic parameter is entered. The new document changes accepted early classification of chemical structure of water.

The serological study of persons contacting dengue-like fever in 1987 in Afghanistan (in Rukha, Parwan Province) revealed that in 74% of cases an increase in the titers of antibodies to Sicilian and Neapolitan sandfly [correction of mosquito-borne] fever viruses was registered. Considering that such diseases appeared here for a number of years and were linked in time with the activity of sandflies [correction of mosquitoes] of the species Phlebotomus papatasii, the suggestion was made on the existence of a stable natural focus of sandfly [correction of mosquito-borne] fevers in the region of Rukha.
