RESUMO

We report the synergistic combination of Pd(OAc)2 and Ag2O for the oxidative C-H arylation of (poly)fluoroarenes with aryl pinacol boronates (Ar-Bpin) in DMF as the solvent. This procedure can be conducted easily in air, and without using additional ligands, to afford the fluorinated unsymmetrical biaryl products in up to 98 % yield. Experimental studies suggest that the formation of [PdL2(C6F5)2] in DMF as coordinating solvent does not take place under the reaction conditions as it is stable to reductive elimination and thus would deactivate the catalyst. Thus, the intermediate [Pd(DMF)2(ArF)(Ar)] must be formed selectively to give desired arylation products. DFT calculations predict a low barrier (5.87 kcal/mol) for the concerted metalation deprotonation (CMD) process between C6F5H and the Pd(II) species formed after transmetalation between the Pd(II)X2 complex and aryl-Bpin which forms a Pd-Arrich species. Thus a Pd(Arrich)(Arpoor) complex is generated selectively which undergoes reductive elimination to generate the unsymmetrical biaryl product.

RESUMO

Tengkawang butter is an indigenous and traditional butter from Borneo that can be a lipid source for pharmaceutical and food applications. Studies found that Tengkawang butter is a cheaper cocoa butter substitution without compromising its quality. However, the current storage method is still very traditional, resulting in faster deterioration of Tengkawang butter. This study aims to calculate and evaluate the storage kinetics model with the Arrhenius model and the tengkawang butter oxidation stability index analysis. Storage conditions were carried out at temperatures of -5, 5, 24, and 60 °C to predict the tengkawang butter storage kinetics model. The addition of antioxidants such as ascorbic acid, tocopherol, and lignin to tengkawang butter help increase the oxidation stability index. The kinetics of the tengkawang butter acidity and peroxide models followed a zero-order reaction with activation energy values of 11.139 kJ mol-1 and 12.320 kJ mol-1, respectively. The prediction model for acidity is Acidity = 4.417-7.903t exp (-11,139/RT), and the model for peroxide is peroxide = 2.155-10.998t exp (-12,320/RT). The oxidation stability index values at 22 °C and the rate of oxidation when the temperature rises by ten degrees (Q10) of tengkawang butter, tengkawang butter with ascorbic acid, tengkawang butter with tocopherol, and tengkawang butter with lignin were 66,896 and 2.815; 224,680 and 1.993; 106,120 and 2.725; 81,658 and 2.961, respectively. The kinetic and oxidation stability index model data can be used as a reference for storage and preserving products made from tengkawang butter.

RESUMO

Background: This study compared the effectiveness of five deep learning models in constructing non-transit dosimetry with an a-Si electronic portal imaging device (EPID) on Varian Halcyon. Deep learning model is increasingly used to support prediction and decision-making in several fields including oncology and radiotherapy. Materials and methods: Forty-seven unique plans of data obtained from breast cancer patients were calculated using Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS) and extracted from DICOM format as the ground truth. Varian Halcyon was then used to irradiate the a-Si 1200 EPID detector without an attenuator. The EPID and TPS images were augmented and divided randomly into two groups of equal sizes to distinguish the validation and training-test data. Five different deep learning models were then created and validated using a gamma index of 3%/3 mm. Results: Four models successfully improved the similarity of the EPID images and the TPS-generated planned dose images. Meanwhile, the mismatch of the constituent components and number of parameters could cause the models to produce wrong results. The average gamma pass rates were 90.07 ± 4.96% for A-model, 77.42 ± 7.18% for B-model, 79.60 ± 6.56% for C-model, 80.21 ± 5.88% for D-model, and 80.47 ± 5.98% for E-model. Conclusion: The deep learning model is proven to run fast and can increase the similarity of EPID images with TPS images to build non-transit dosimetry. However, more cases are needed to validate this model before being used in clinical activities.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of avidin treatment on cell viability, proliferation and cyclin D1 expression in colorectal cancer cells HT-29. METHODS: Colorectal cancer cell line HT-29 incubated with 50, 100, 150, and 200 µg/mL of avidin concentration during 24, 48, and 72 hours, then the cell viability and proliferation   were analyzed. Each avidin concentration was conducted together with HT-29 cell line without avidin treatment as a control group. The cell viability was measured by MTS assay and the proliferation was measured by BrdU (5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine) cell proliferation assay. According to cell viability and proliferation result, we determined the 100 µg/mL avidin concentration for analyzing mRNA and protein of cyclin D1. RESULTS: We demonstrated that the viability and proliferation of HT-29 cells were significantly decreased in all concentration of avidin treatment compared to control.   The cell proliferation showed larger reduction in avidin treatment rather than cell viability. This proves avidin could inhibit proliferation of colorectal cancer cell HT-29 quite well. The expression of cyclin D1, both mRNA and protein, was also significantly decreased after the avidin treatment group compared to control group, it supports the suppression of proliferation result. CONCLUSION: We concluded that avidin treatment could decrease cell viability and proliferation, accompanied by suppression of cyclin D1 expression in colorectal cells HT-29.

RESUMO

Wound prevalence is still high, both nationally and globally, having a negative impact on patients' physical, psychological and financial wellbeing. The wound healing process involves hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and remodeling, with angiogenesis being one aspect of the proliferation phase. Curcuma longa has long been used for the therapeutic effects of one of its components, curcumin, which has been shown to have a positive effect on the wound healing process. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Curcuma longa extract gel (Curcuma longa) administration on angiogenesis in wound healing. This study used a laboratory experimental mouse model. Twenty-five Balb/C male mice aged 8 to 10 weeks were divided into five different intervention groups (positive control, negative control, 1%, 3%, 10% Curcuma longa extract gel administration). An incision wound was made on the back of the mice and the mice were treated for 7 days. The total blood vessels in each mouse were then observed in three random visual fields under the light microscope. There was a significant mean difference (p=0.017) in the total blood vessels observed between the five groups, with significantly more blood vessels in the mice treated with 1% Curcuma longa extract gel than in the negative control group. The topical administration of 1% Curcuma longa extract gel has a positive effect on angiogenesis in a mouse model of wound healing.

RESUMO

Understanding CO2 addition and H2 activation by geminal P/Z (Z = B, Al) frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) is crucial for the development of transition metal-free catalysts for hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds and CO2 conversion. The distortion-interaction energy decomposition and natural bond orbital were used to gain insights into the reactivity of CO2 addition and H2 activation. Remarkably, the orbital interactions in the reactions of CO2 and H2 with geminal P/B FLPs are stronger than those in the reactions with more reactive geminal P/Al FLPs, which contain a stronger Lewis acid. The fact that geminal P/B FLPs react with a higher energy barrier than geminal P/Al FLPs is actually due to the unfavorable core repulsion contribution to the interaction energy and the higher distortion energy found for the geminal P/B FLPs. In addition, we revealed that although the interaction energy is higher for H2 activation, the distortion energy is significantly lower for CO2 addition. Thus, geminal P/Z FLPs are more reactive toward CO2 than toward H2. Overall, the reactivity and thermodynamic stability for the reactions of geminal P/Z FLPs with CO2 and H2 are not affected by the type of bridging carbon (sp3-C or sp2-C) but mainly influenced by the substituents on P and Z (B or Al). An insight into the thermodynamic stability of the H2 activation product is gained by quantifying the hydride affinity, the proton affinity, and the stability of the zwitterionic product relative to the prototypical Lewis acid-base pair, PtBu3/B(C6F5)3.

RESUMO

Tengkawang fat (Shorea stenoptera), from an indigenous plant of the Kalimantan forest, has excellent potential as an alternative source of vegetable fat because it has a high level of fatty acids composition. Activated natural bentonite can be used as a bleaching agent to improve the quality of tengkawang fat. This research aims to reduce the acidity, peroxide number values and identify the physicochemical properties (fatty acid composition, nutrients, and thermal) of tengkawang butter. Initially, tengkawang samples from Nanga Yen and Sintang were pre-treated using the degumming process with 1% phosphoric acid and the neutralization process with a 1 M NaOH 10% w/w solution. The results show that the acidity (mg NaOH/g) of the tengkawang fat samples was reduced from 11.00 to 3.36 when using bentonite activated at 200 °C. The bentonite activated with 0.5 M HCl reduced the acidity to 3.61. The peroxide number (meq O2/kg) of the tengkawang fat samples was reduced from 9.45 to 4.84 and 3.47 by bleaching with thermal-activated and acid-activated bentonites, respectively. Peroxide value correlates with ß-carotene content. The smaller of the ß-carotene content, the smaller the peroxide value. The acidity, peroxide number, and iodine number values from tengkawang fat after treatment adhere to the SNI 2903: 2016 standard. The main content of fatty acids in tengkawang fat is palmitic acid, stearic acid, and oleic acid. These results show that both products are suitable for the food industry in terms of the acid and peroxide numbers. The application of this research results will assist local people in increasing the economic value of the product from tengkawang plant, which is an indigenous plant from Kalimantan.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore salient trends in incidence and mortality from breast cancer among Kuwaiti females and to quantify the number of years that could be saved if breast cancer deaths were eliminated. Methods: Appling life table technique, the paper constructs a bridged, multiple decrement and cancer-elimination life tables for Kuwaiti females. Data sources include Kuwait Cancer Control Center Registry along with vital statistics on mortality by age groups, nationality, and causes of death according to ICD-10 revision. Result: The study finds that, without interventions, nearly 2.5% of Kuwaiti female live births are expected to die from breast cancer. By contrast, if this disease were to be completely eradicated, Kuwaiti females are expected to gain half a year of life expectancy at birth. Likewise, a 10% reduction in deaths attributed to breast cancer would produce a gain of 11 days of life at age 30. The gain would augment to 51 days when death is reduced by 50%. Kuwaiti females aged 50 would add almost 5 months when breast cancer is eradicated, while a 20 percent reduction in breast cancer mortality would raise their life expectancy by 26 days. Conclusion: The results strongly support policy interventions of Kuwait's government by instituting a well-documented public health policy for chronic diseases and mitigating the increase of cancer prevalence.
