RESUMO

In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer film (MIP) was prepared on the surface of a disposable carbon screen-printed electrode (C-SPE) using (3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride (AMPTMA) as a functional monomer and the cancer biomarker carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) as a template. The MIP was synthesized by in situ electropolymerization (ELP) of the AMPTMA monomer in the presence of the CA 15-3 protein on the C-SPE surface. The target was subsequently removed from the polymer matrix by the action of proteinase K, resulting in imprinted cavities with a high affinity for CA 15-3. Electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to characterize the different phases of the sensor assembly. Chemical and morphological analysis was performed using RAMAN and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). CA 15-3 was successfully detected in a wide working range from 0.001 U mL-1 to 100 U mL-1 with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.994 in 20 min. The MIP sensor showed minimal interference with other cancer proteins (CEA and CA 125). Overall, the developed device provides a rapid, sensitive, and cost-effective response in the detection of CA 15-3. Importantly, this comprehensive approach appears suitable for point-of-care (PoC) use, particularly in a clinical context.

RESUMO

The effects on the structure and magnetic properties of Eu1-xYxMnO3 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) thin films due to lattice strain were investigated and compared with those obtained in equivalent composition ceramics. The films were deposited by spin-coating chemical solution onto Pt\TiO2\SiO2\Si (100) standard substrates. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements revealed that all films crystallize in orthorhombic structure with space group Pnma, observing an added contraction of the unit cell with increasing Y-substitution ou Eu, corresponding to a broadening of the Mn-O1-Mn angle and a gradual decrease in magnetic order response.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance and urgent need for rapid and accurate diagnostic tests for detecting and screening this infection. Our proposal was to develop a biosensor based on an ELISA immunoassay for monitoring antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in human serum samples. The nucleocapsid protein (N protein) from SARS-CoV-2 was employed as a specific receptor for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid immunoglobulin G. N protein was immobilized on the surface of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified with carboxylated graphene (CG). The percentage of IgG-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid present was quantified using a secondary antibody labeled with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) (anti-IgG-HRP) catalyzed using 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) mediator by chronoamperometry. A linear response was obtained in the range of 1:1000-1:200 v/v in phosphate buffer solution (PBS), and the detection limit calculated was 1:4947 v/v. The chronoamperometric method showed electrical signals directly proportional to antibody concentrations due to antigen-antibody (Ag-Ab) specific and stable binding reaction.

RESUMO

This paper described an impedimetric immunosensor for detecting Plasmodium falciparum histidine-rich protein 2 (PfHRP2). Antibodies from egg yolk (Ab-PfHRP2, IgY type) were linked covalently to the screen-printed gold electrodes (SPGE) surface modified with a thin film of Poly-pyrrole-pyrrole 3 carboxylic acid (P(Py-Py3COOH) to develop the sensing platform. The fabrication steps were followed by microscopic (scanning electron microscopy), spectroscopic (RAMAN spectroscopy and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy), and electrochemical (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry) techniques. The determination of Ag-PfHRP2 was performed by EIS, and the BSA(bovine serum albumin)/Ab-PfHRP2(IgY)/P(Py-Py3COOH)/SPGE immunosensor recorded a linear response at 100-1000 ng mL-1 concentration range, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 27.47 ng mL-1. Its performance was confirmed by Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay. The fabricated device uses a simple strategy of IgY immobilization, showing high sensitivity and good selectivity, and can be considered an alternative for carrying out malaria tests.

RESUMO

TiO2 time-dependent electrodeposited thin films were synthesized using an electrophoretic apparatus. The XRD analysis revealed that the films could exhibit a crystalline structure composed of ~81% anatase and ~6% rutile after 10 s of deposition, with crystallite size of 15 nm. AFM 3D maps showed that the surfaces obtained between 2 and 10 s of deposition exhibit strong topographical irregularities with long-range and short-range correlations being observed in different surface regions, a trend also observed by the Minkowski functionals. The height-based ISO, as well as specific surface microtexture parameters, showed an overall decrease from 2 to 10 s of deposition, showing a subtle decrease in the vertical growth of the films. The surfaces were also mapped to have low spatial dominant frequencies, which is associated with the similar roughness profile of the films, despite the overall difference in vertical growth observed. The electrical conductivity measurements showed that despite the decrease in topographical roughness, the films acquired a thickness capable of making them increasingly insulating from 2 to 10 s of deposition. Thus, our results prove that the deposition time used during the electrophoretic experiment consistently affects the films' structure, morphology, and electrical conductivity.

RESUMO

Molecularly imprinted polymers provide an excellent platform for the modification of selective electrodes for sensing applications. Herein, we present a novel modified carbon paste electrode (CPE) with a selective molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for recognition of sesquiterpene ß-caryophyllene, constituted of important plants oil-resins and extracts. The non-covalent MIP was synthesized using AA, EGDMA, and AIBN as a functional monomer, cross-linker and initiator agent, respectively. Structural and chemical characterization of the synthesized MIP was conducted through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was possible to verify the functional features of the synthesized MIP related to the extraction process of the template molecule. The CPE modified with MIP for sesquiterpene ß-caryophyllene recognition was characterized by electrochemical techniques as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). The highest selective recognition electrode enables to detect concentrations in the range between 1.5 × 10-7 and 7.5 × 10-7 M, showing great potential for applications in monitoring content of sesquiterpene ß-caryophyllene in technological processes and for predicting the quality of extracts, oils, and resins of plants.

RESUMO

Composite materials consisting of two dissimilar ferroic phases are an excellent alternative to single-phase multiferroics for a wide range of magnetoelectric technologies. In composites with strain-mediated magnetoelectric coupling the response is strongly dependent on the characteristics of the interface between the two mechanically coupled phases. Among the different material approaches considered, cofired ceramic composites offer improved reliability in applications and are more adequate for free-forming and miniaturization. However, their magnetoelectric response often suffers from poor reproducibility, which has been reiteratively associated with the quality of the interfaces with little experimental support. Here, we report an in-depth study of the local material properties across the interfaces of 0.36BiScO3-0.64PbTiO3/NiFe2O4 multilayer ceramic composites, processed by spark plasma sintering of nanocrystalline powders. Tailored microstructures and low residual stress levels were obtained by adjusting the sintering mismatch between the two ferroic phases, which also resulted in fully functional interfaces and enhanced magnetoelectric responses.

RESUMO

A highly topical set of perovskite oxides are high-sensitivity piezoelectric ones, among which Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 at the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) between ferroelectric rhombohedral and tetragonal polymorphic phases is reckoned a case study. Piezoelectric ceramics are used in a wide range of mature, electromechanical transduction technologies like piezoelectric sensors, actuators and ultrasound generation, to name only a few examples, and more recently for demonstrating novel applications like magnetoelectric composites. In this case, piezoelectric perovskites are combined with magnetostrictive materials to provide magnetoelectricity as a product property of the piezoelectricity and piezomagnetism of the component phases. Interfaces play a key issue, for they control the mechanical coupling between the piezoresponsive phases. We present here main results of our investigation on the suitability of the high sensitivity MPB piezoelectric perovskite BiScO3-PbTiO3 in combination with ferrimagnetic spinel oxides for magnetoelectric composites. Emphasis has been put on the processing at low temperature to control reactions and interdiffusion between the two oxides. The role of the grain size effects is extensively addressed.
