RESUMO

Chemical graph theory has revolutionary impacts in the field of mathematical chemistry when complex structures are investigated through various chemical invariants (topological indices). We have performed evaluations by considering alternatives as crystal structures, namely Face-Centered Cubic (FCC), hexagonal close-packed (HCP), Hexagonal (HEX), and Body Centered Cubic (BCC) Lattice structures, through the study of two-dimensional degree-based chemical invariants, which we considered criteria. QSPR modeling has been implemented for the targeted crystal structures to investigate the ability of targeted chemical invariants to predict targeted physical properties. Furthermore, the Fuzzy-TOPSIS technique provides the optimal structure HCP ranking as first among all structures when investigated under more than one criterion, which justifies further that the structure attaining dominant countable invariant values ranks high when investigated through physical properties and fuzzy TOPSIS.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. RESUMO

Summary: A 77-year-old female patient with a history of treated breast cancer and a recently diagnosed laryngeal cancer presented with severe hypercalcaemia associated with suppressed parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Her initial investigations included 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels, short synacthen test, bone scan, myeloma screen and thyroid function tests which were within normality. A computerised tomography (CT) scan showed some right lung apical fibrotic changes. Her PTH-related peptide (PTHrP) was normal and sarcoidosis was also excluded. Her previous and current malignancies were thought to be unlikely behind her hypercalcaemia. Her 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D (calcitriol) levels were found to be elevated. Her hypercalcaemia was initially managed with intravenous fluids and intermittent bisphosphonates infusions which would transiently reduce her calcium levels. Steroid treatment was initiated which improved her hypercalcaemia; however, the calcium levels rebounded on tapering the steroids down, a pre-requisite prior to a positron emission computerised tomography (PET-CT) scan to determine the source of the excess calcitriol production. This was cancelled following an emergency admission with marked hypercalcaemia and acute renal and liver injury. A contemporary CT scan showed a right apical lung mass with hepatic lesions suggestive of a disseminated lung primary. The histology obtained from a liver biopsy was compatible with metastatic small-cell lung carcinoma. Unfortunately, her clinical condition deteriorated further and she did not survive. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature describing calcitriol-mediated hypercalcaemia due to a small-cell lung cancer. Learning points: Paraneoplastic hypercalcaemia may manifest even without overt detection of the primary cancer. The workup for paraneoplastic hypercalcaemia should be meticulous. Both bisphosphonates and steroids are useful in the initial management of calcitriol-mediated hypercalcaemia, but the definitive management is the treatment of the cause.

RESUMO

Chemical graph theory significantly predicts multifarious physio-chemical properties of complex and multidimensional compounds when investigated through topological descriptors and QSPR modeling. The targeted compounds are widely studied nanotubes attaining exquisite nanostructures due to their distinguishable properties attaining numeric values. The studied nanotubes are carbon, naphthalene, boron nitride, V-phenylene, and titania nanotubes. In this research work, these nanotubes are characterized through their significance level by implementing highly applicable MCDM techniques. TOPSIS, COPRAS, and VIKOR are used to perform a comparative analysis between them through each optimal ranking. The criteria originated from multiple linear regression modeling established between degree-based topological descriptors and the physio-chemical properties of each nanotube.

RESUMO

The disease cancer is expanding on high spans in virtually all over the world, and undoubtedly, the research through all the aspects of sciences for each of its perspective is a great cause in reducing its severeness and symptoms. Chemotherapy is itself a cure to cancer as it helps in controlling the formation of cancerous cells but leaving multiple side effects on a human body. In this research work, we targeted 21 anticancer drugs that are in taken by the patients in combinations during chemotherapies. We introduce another branch of mathematics named as OR (Operations Research) linking to the chemical graph theory. Chemical graph theory allows us to generate highly resistant research on any structure via quantitative structure property relationship (QSPR) modeling to explore and develop new compounds for drugs. In this research study, we visualized what else the QSPR could provide when it comes to ranking drugs. We visualized the results obtained for boiling points and enthalpy of vaporizations through QSPR as the values of correlation coefficients and the errors generated under unique QSPR modeling. The implementation of VIKOR provides the best ranking for each of anticancer drugs when keeping in concern the specified properties, and the conclusions from this research work show another path to biologist scientists to create best combinations keeping in concern the study generated from QSPR. RESUMO

Chemical graph theory is a multidisciplinary field where the structure of the molecule is analyzed as a graphical structure. Chemical descriptors are one of the most important ideas employed in chemical graph theory; this is to associate a numerical value with a graph structure that often has correlation with corresponding chemical properties. In this paper, we investigate another very important closed-packed usual crystal structure defined as HCP (Hexagonal Close-Packed) crystal structure and its lattice formed by arranging its unit cells in a dimension for topological descriptors based on a neighborhood degree, reverse degree, and degree. Furthermore, we classify which descriptor is more dominating.

RESUMO

Background: Assessment of the effectiveness of tuberculosis control strategies requires the periodic measurement of M. tuberculosis transmission in populations, which is notoriously difficult. One well-established method is to measure the prevalence of infectious pulmonary tuberculosis in the population which is then repeated at a second time point after a period of 'intervention', such as scale up of the Search-Treat-Prevent strategy of the Zero TB Cities initiative, allowing for a 'before and after' comparison.  Protocol: The concurrent adult pulmonary tuberculosis prevalence survey (using digital radiography and Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra) and child M. tuberculosis infection survey (using QuantiFERON-TB® Gold Plus) will primarily provide a baseline measure of the burden of adult infectious tuberculosis in Karachi and assess whether a large-scale interferon gamma release assay survey in children aged 2 to 4 years is feasible. The target population for the prevalence survey is comprised of a stratified random sample of all adults aged 15 years and above and all children aged 2 to 4 years resident in four districts in Karachi. The survey procedures and analyses to estimate pulmonary tuberculosis prevalence are based on the World Health Organization methodology for tuberculosis prevalence surveys. Ethics and dissemination: The study protocol has been approved by the Interactive Research Development / The Indus Hospital Research Centre Research Ethics Committee in Karachi, Pakistan and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Research Ethics Committee. Due to non-representative sampling in this setting, where a large proportion of the population are illiterate and are reluctant to provide fingerprints due to concerns about personal security, verbal informed consent will be obtained from each eligible participant or guardian. Results will be submitted to international peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences and shared with participating communities and with the Provincial and National TB programme.
