SCOPE: The current evidence between dietary flavonoids consumption and multiple health outcomes is inadequate and inconclusive. To summarize and evaluate the evidence for dietary flavonoids consumption and multiple health outcomes, an umbrella review of meta-analyses and systematic reviews is conducted. METHODS AND RESULTS: PubMed, Ovid-EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews are searched up to January 2024. The study includes a total of 32 articles containing 24 unique health outcomes in this umbrella review. Meta-analyses are recalculated by using a random effects model. Separate analyses are performed based on the kind of different flavonoid subclasses. The study finds some unique associations such as flavonol and gastric cancer, isoflavone and uterine fibroids and endometrial cancer, total flavonoids consumption and lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer. Overall, the study confirms the negative associations between dietary flavonoids consumption and type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and mortality, while positive associations are observed for prostate cancer and uterine fibroids. CONCLUSION: Although dietary flavonoids are significantly associated with many outcomes, firm generalizable conclusions about their beneficial or harmful effects cannot be drawn because of the low certainty of evidence for most of outcomes. More well-designed primary studies are needed.

AIM: To assess the sex- and time-specific causal effects of obesity-related anthropometric traits on glycaemic traits. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used univariate and multivariate Mendelian randomization to assess the causal associations of anthropometric traits (gestational variables, birth weight, childhood body mass index [BMI], BMI, waist-to-hip ratio [WHR], BMI-adjusted WHR [WHRadj BMI]) with fasting glucose and insulin in Europeans from the Early Growth Genetics Consortium (n ≤ 298 142), the UK Biobank, the Genetic Investigation of Anthropometric Traits Consortium (n ≤ 697 734; females: n ≤ 434 794; males: n ≤ 374 754) and the Meta-Analyses of Glucose and Insulin-related traits Consortium (n ≤ 151 188; females: n ≤ 73 089; males: n ≤ 67 506), adjusting for maternal genetic effects, smoking, alcohol consumption, and age at menarche. RESULTS: We observed a null association for gestational variables, a negative association for birth weight, and positive associations for childhood BMI and adult traits (BMI, WHR, and WHRadj BMI). In female participants, increased birth weight causally decreased fasting insulin (betaIVW , -0.07, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.11 to -0.03; p = 1.92 × 10-3 ), but not glucose levels, which was annulled by adjusting for age at menarche. In male participants, increased birth weight causally decreased fasting glucose (betainverse-variance-weighted (IVW) , -0.07, 95% CI -0.11 to -0.03; p = 3.22 × 10-4 ), but not insulin levels. In time-specific analyses, independent effects of birth weight were absent in female participants, and were more pronounced in male participants. Independent effects of childhood BMI were attenuated in both sexes; independent effects of adult traits differed by sex. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provide evidence for causal and independent effects of sex- and time-specific anthropometric traits on glycaemic variables, and highlight the importance of considering multiple obesity exposures at different time points in the life course.

BACKGROUND: It is unclear whether the effects of abnormal gestational weight gain (GWG) on birth outcomes are differently in women with different maternal ages. This study aimed to investigate maternal age-specific association between GWG and adverse birth weights in Chinese women older than 30. METHODS: 19,854 mother-child dyads were selected from a prospective cohort study in Southwest China between 2019 and 2022. Logistic regression model was used to assess the association between GWG, which defined by the 2009 Institute of Medicine guidelines, and adverse birth weights including large- and small-for-gestational-age (LGA and SGA), stratified by maternal age (31-34 years and ≥ 35 years). RESULTS: In both maternal age groups, excessive and insufficient GWG were associated with increased odds of LGA and SGA, respectively. After women were categorized by pre-pregnancy body mass index, the associations remained significant in women aged 31-34 years, whereas for women aged ≥ 35 years, the association between excessive GWG and the risk of LGA was only significant in normal weight and overweight/obese women, and the significant effect of insufficient GWG on the risk of SGA was only observed in underweight and overweight/obese women. Moreover, among overweight/obese women, the magnitude of the association between insufficient GWG and the risk of SGA was greater in those aged ≥ 35 years (31-34 years: OR 2.08, 95% CI 1.19-3.55; ≥35 years: OR 2.65, 95% CI 1.47-4.74), while the impact of excessive GWG on the risk of LGA was more pronounced in those aged 31-34 years (31-34 years: OR 2.18, 95% CI 1.68-2.88; ≥35 years: OR 1.71, 95% CI 1.30-2.25). CONCLUSIONS: The stronger associations between abnormal GWG and adverse birth weights were mainly observed in women aged 31-34 years, and more attention should be paid to this age group.

BACKGROUND: Comorbidity exists between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease (PD), but the role of genetic factors is unclear. OBJECTIVE: We aim to investigate genetic correlation, causal relationship, and comorbid genes between ALS and PD. METHODS: Leveraging the largest genome-wide association study data (ALS: 27,205 cases, 110,881 controls; PDG: 33,674 cases, 449,056 controls), we used linkage disequilibrium score regression and Mendelian randomization analysis for genetic correlation and causal inference. We performed genome-wide cross-trait analysis via Multi-Trait Analysis of Genome-Wide Association Studies and Cross-Phenotype Association to identify specific single-nucleotide polymorphisms, followed by functional mapping and annotation. Integrating expression quantitative trait loci data from 13 brain regions, we conducted a transcriptome-wide association study via functional summary-based imputation and joint-tissue imputation to explore comorbid genes, followed by pathway enrichment analysis. RESULTS: We found that PD positively correlates with ALS (rg = 0.144, P = 0.026) and confers a causal effect (odds ratio = 1.09, 95% confidence interval: 1.03-1.15, P = 3.00 × 10-3 ). We identified nine single-nucleotide polymorphisms (eight new), associating with three risk loci (chromosomes 4, 10, and 17) and seven genes (TMEM175, MAPT, NSF, LRRC37A2, ARHGAP27, GAK, and FGFRL1). In transcriptome-wide association study analysis, we showed six previously unreported pleiotropic genes (KANSL1, ARL17B, EFNA1, WNT3, ERCC8, and ADAM15), and we found these candidate genes are mainly enriched in negative regulation of neuron projection development (GO:0010977). CONCLUSIONS: Our work demonstrates shared genetic architecture between ALS and PD, reports new pleiotropic genes, and sheds light on the comorbid mechanism. © 2023 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies suggest a correlation between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and gastrointestinal tract (GIT) disorders. However, the genetic overlap, causal relationships, and underlining mechanisms between PTSD and GIT disorders were absent. METHODS: We obtained genome-wide association study statistics for PTSD (23 212 cases, 151 447 controls), peptic ulcer disease (PUD; 16 666 cases, 439 661 controls), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD; 54 854 cases, 401 473 controls), PUD and/or GORD and/or medications (PGM; 90 175 cases, 366 152 controls), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS; 28 518 cases, 426 803 controls), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; 7045 cases, 449 282 controls). We quantified genetic correlations, identified pleiotropic loci, and performed multi-marker analysis of genomic annotation, fast gene-based association analysis, transcriptome-wide association study analysis, and bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis. RESULTS: PTSD globally correlates with PUD (rg = 0.526, p = 9.355 × 10-7), GORD (rg = 0.398, p = 5.223 × 10-9), PGM (rg = 0.524, p = 1.251 × 10-15), and IBS (rg = 0.419, p = 8.825 × 10-6). Cross-trait meta-analyses identify seven genome-wide significant loci between PTSD and PGM (rs13107325, rs1632855, rs1800628, rs2188100, rs3129953, rs6973700, and rs73154693); three between PTSD and GORD (rs13107325, rs1632855, and rs3132450); one between PTSD and IBS/IBD (rs4937872 and rs114969413, respectively). Proximal pleiotropic genes are mainly enriched in immune response regulatory pathways, and in brain, digestive, and immune systems. Gene-level analyses identify five candidates: ABT1, BTN3A2, HIST1H3J, ZKSCAN4, and ZKSCAN8. We found significant causal effects of GORD, PGM, IBS, and IBD on PTSD. We observed no reverse causality of PTSD with GIT disorders, except for GORD. CONCLUSIONS: PTSD and GIT disorders share common genetic architectures. Our work offers insights into the biological mechanisms, and provides genetic basis for translational research studies.

High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the major risks of cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in China. This study aimed to assess the relationship between dietary patterns and blood pressure among Chinese adults. Using factor analysis of 66-item food frequency questionnaire to identify dietary patterns. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were measured according to standardized guidelines. Multivariate linear regressions were performed in 6849 Chinese adults (46.5% female) aged 21-70 years considering sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle behaviors, and anthropometry data. The vegetable-rich pattern, animal-food pattern, and prudent dietary pattern were identified. After adjustment for potential confounders including age, gender, alcohol consumption, smoking status, energy intake, and physical activity, only prudent dietary pattern was negatively related to SBP (ß = -2.30, p for trend =0.0003) and DBP (ß = -1.44, p for trend =0.0006). Body mass index, waist circumstance and body fat percentage explained, respectively, 42.5%/47.8, 14.8%/17.6 and 26.0%/29.1% of the association between prudent pattern and SBP/DBP in mediation analysis. There were no association were observed between other dietary patterns and blood pressure. In conclusion, Prudent dietary pattern was associated with lower SBP and DBP among Southwest Chinese and this association was partially explained by body composition.

CONTEXT: Puberty timing, which is vital for adult well-being, has recently been suggested to be linked to specific gut taxa. However, the impact of comprehensive gut microbiome structure assessed by enterotype on puberty timing remains unknown. OBJECTIVE: Investigate the prospective association of gut microbial enterotype with puberty timing and the potential interaction of age and body composition. METHODS: This study included 1826 children from the Chinese Adolescent Cohort Study, a cohort that has collected information on sociodemographics, dietary intake, physical activity, anthropometry, and pubertal development of children aged 6-8 years since 2013 and follows them up annually until the age of 15 years. Fecal samples have been collected annually since 2019 and analyzed for 16S rRNA sequencing and targeted fecal metabolomics. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to investigate the prospective association of enterotype with puberty timing and the impact of age and body mass index (BMI) sex- and age-independent standard deviation score (SDS). RESULTS: 592 (32.4%) and 1234 (67.6%) children belonged to the Prevotella-rich enterotype and the Bacteroides-rich enterotype, respectively. Children with the Bacteroides-rich enterotype experienced their menarche/voice break later than those with the Prevotella enterotype (hazard ratio 0.53, 95% CI 0.28-0.98), P = .02). Moreover, this association was more pronounced among younger children with higher BMI SDS (P for interaction = .006). CONCLUSION: Our findings supported a role for gut microbial communities in pubertal development, in which younger children with higher body mass seems more sensitive.

BACKGROUND: Previous transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) has documented 21 genes associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk, but the predictive biomarkers remain unexplored. METHODS: TWAS leveraging the unified test for molecular signatures (UTMOST) was performed in 75,000 cases and 420,000 controls with 10 brain tissue gene expression references. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was conducted in GSE5281 and GSE48350 data sets containing 167 AD samples and 247 controls. Random forest (RF) analysis was applied to screen the potential predictive biomarkers based on overlapping genes identified by TWAS and WGCNA, followed by comprehensive bioinformatic analyses with differential gene expression, functional enrichment, and correlation with immune cells. A nomogram was established to verify the predictive power of the identified biomarkers. RESULTS: TWAS revealed 78 candidate genes (p < 2.89 × 10-6). In WGCNA turquoise module, 3 718 AD-related genes were screened. RF identified 5 predictive biomarkers (FAM71E1, DDB2, AP4M1, GPR4, DOC2A), which are enriched in the global genome nucleotide excision repair pathway and associated with immune cell designations "Natural.killer.T.cell," "Memory.B.cell," "T.follicular.helper.cell," "Neutrophil," and "MDSC." The nomogram based on the 5 markers showed a high predictive power. CONCLUSION: Five potential predictive biomarkers for AD were identified, providing new insights into the pathogenesis and etiology of AD.

BACKGROUND: Diet quality in early childhood has a long-term impact on health outcomes. However, there are scarce dietary indexes for Chinese preschool children, and the existing indexes had limited validity and reliability. This study thus aimed to develop a dietary index for preschool children based on the Chinese Dietary Guideline and Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes and to assess their overall diet quality using the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). METHODS: The Chinese Preschooler Dietary Index (CPDI) included 11 components, covering 9 food group components and two nutrient components. The total scores of CPDI ranged from 0 to 90, with a higher score indicating greater diet quality. This study assessed the diet quality of 1742 preschoolers aged two to five years old from CHNS using the CPDI. Dietary intake data were obtained using three-day 24-h diet recalls, and sociodemographic information was also collected. Cochran-Mantel-Haensel (CMH) test was used to explore the association between demographic and CPDI total scores. The principal component analysis, correlation analysis and Cronbach's alpha were used to evaluate the relative reliability and validity of the CPDI. Finally, a stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to explore potential influencing factors of CPDI. RESULTS: Among the 1742 CHNS preschool children, more than 70% resided in rural areas and 41.2% of the sample were raised in a low-income family. The mean CPDI score of the preschoolers was 38.8 ± 12.9. Higher diet scores were correlated with higher energy and nutrient intake. Children with higher age (ß = 0.93, SE = 0.26, P = 0.0003), raised in a home with higher household income (ß = 3.11, SE = 0.27, P < 0.0001) or living in urban areas (ß = -4.44, SE = 0.66, P < 0.0001) were associated with higher CPDI scores. CONCLUSIONS: The CPDI is useful in evaluating the diet quality of preschool children. Based on the CPDI, the diet quality of Chinese preschoolers needs to be improved, especially in rural areas.

The fermentation medium of a newly identified Cordyceps cicadae S1 was optimized by response surface methodology, with the optimal medium containing sucrose (80 g/L), yeast powder (60 g/L), KH2PO4 (5 g/L), MgSO4·7H2O (1 g/L) and Na2SeO3 (0. 1 g/L). Under these conditions, the extracellular polysaccharide yield was 8.09 g/L. A novel selenium-enriched polysaccharide (PACI-1) was isolated from Cordyceps cicadae, purified and identified as a homofructose polysaccharide with a low average molecular weight of 9.95 × 103 Da. The fine structure of PACI-1 was analyzed using NMR, CD, and AFM. Additionally, the in vitro antioxidant results showed that the PACI-1 had stronger antioxidant capacity than natural polysaccharides. These results provided a candidate strain for producing selenium polysaccharide and a new polysaccharide from C. cicadae, which showed good antioxidant activity.

Recent studies demonstrated that the progression and metastasis of lung cancer were associated with human antigen R (HuR), a post-transcriptional RNA-binding protein that stabilize and regulate the expression of many tumor-related genes. Although HuR was shown to affect the expressions of epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin), a tumor migration suppressor, in airway epithelial cells, esophageal squamous and colon cancer cells, direct evaluation for the effect and mechanism of HuR on the migration and invasion of lung cancer cells is not documented. In this study, HuR was knocked down via RNA interference and overexpressed using recombinant plasmid in adenocarcinomic human alveolar basal epithelial A549 cells. No apparent inhibition of cell viability was observed. HuR knocked down significantly suppressed A549 migration and invasion in scratch wound healing and transwell assays, with an increase in E-cadherin expression, while the overexpression of HuR notably facilitated A549 migration and invasion, with a decrease in E-cadherin level. In addition, immunoprecipitation study showed that HuR directly interacted with Snail, a repressor of E-cadherin, and upregulated the expression of Snail in A549 cells. These combined results suggested that the effect of HuR on A549 migration and invasion was realized by stabilizing and increasing the expression of Snail, which in-turn interfered with the expression of E-cadherin. The finding of this study revealed direct evidence that HuR affected the migration and invasion of lung cancer cells via regulating E-cadherin and Snail, providing an additional reference and mechanistic clue for further researches and therapeutic strategies in treating lung cancer.

SCOPE: Puberty timing, critical for adulthood wellbeing, is influenced by the environment, life-style, and diets. However, differential puberty-interfering effects of soy and soy isoflavone are observed in both epidemiological and toxicological studies. Additionally, their impact on neuroendocrine function at various pre-pubertal developmental windows is unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study investigates the effect of genistein, a typical soy isoflavone, at neonatal, lactational, and post-weaning stages on the time of vaginal opening and determines the levels of neuroendocrine factors in female rats using immunofluorescence, immunochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. A physiologically relevant dosage (10 mg kg-1 ) is used to resemble human exposure. The results show that genistein exposure at lactational stage significantly accelerates vaginal opening time, marginally increases hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion, significantly enhances kisspeptin receptor expression, and markedly elevates blood levels of GnRH, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone, while neonatal and post-weaning exposures do not induce significant alternations. CONCLUSION: Lactational stage may be an important window for genistein to impact reproductive development and neuroendocrine regulations.

BACKGROUND: Dietary phytoestrogens have been suggested to influence puberty timing, a critical stage for well-being in adulthood. We hypothesized that childhood soy intake might prospectively influence puberty timing and that dietary fibre and the key isoflavone metabolite equol might play roles. METHODS: Cox proportional hazard regression models were performed in 4781 children (2152 girls and 2629 boys) aged 6-8 years old from the Chinese Adolescent Cohort Study for whom a food frequency questionnaire at baseline and information about potential confounders were available. Anthropometry and pubertal status including age at Tanner stage 2 for breast development (B2) or age at the initiation of gonadal growth (G2), and age at menarche (M) or voice break (VB) were assessed annually. Equol excretion was determined by urine samples from 1311 participants. RESULTS: Among girls and boys, higher soy intake was associated with later puberty timing (hazard ratio (HR)-B2: 0.88 (95% CI, 0.80-0.96), p=0.02; HR-M, 0.87 (0.77-0.94), p=0.01; HR-G2, 0.91 (0.82-0.98), p=0.013; HR-VB, 0.90 (0.82-0.9), p=0.02), independent of prepubertal body fatness and fibre intake. These associations were more pronounced among children with a high urinary equol level (pfor-interaction ≤ 0.04) or with a high cereal fibre intake (pfor-interaction ≤ 0.06). Intake of dietary fibre or its subtype was not prospectively associated with puberty onset after adjusting for dietary soy intake (p≥0.06). CONCLUSION: Higher childhood soy intake is prospectively associated with later puberty timing in both Chinese girls and boys, independent of prepubertal body fatness, and the association is particularly pronounced among individuals with a higher urinary equol level.

Dietary fat and fat quality have been inconsistently associated with puberty timing. The aim of this study was to investigate the prospective associations of dietary fat, saturated fatty acid (SFA), polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) with puberty timing. Using longitudinal data from China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) and Southwest China Childhood Nutrition and Growth (SCCNG) Study, we analyzed dietary data, anthropometric measurements, and potential confounders. Dietary intakes were assessed by 3-day 24-h recalls. Age at Tanner stage 2 for breast/genital development (B2/G2) and age at menarche/voice break (M/VB) were used as puberty development markers. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to estimate the relevance of dietary intake of total fat, SFA, PUFA, and MUFA on puberty timing. Among 3425 girls and 2495 boys, children with higher intakes of total fat and PUFA were more likely to reach their B2/G2 or M/VB at an earlier age. Associations were not attenuated on additional adjustment for childhood dietary protein intake. However, higher intakes of SFA or MUFA were not independently associated with puberty development. A higher intake of dietary fat and PUFA in prepuberty was associated with earlier puberty timing, which was independent of dietary protein intake.

The importance of diet quality on children's growth is being increasingly recognized. The Chinese Adolescent Cohort (CAC) is a longitudinal cohort study to comprehensively investigate the health impacts of nutritional factors on child growth. From 2013 to 2018, 6,967 children aged 6-8 years have been recruited from 23 primary schools in Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing, which have been planned to be followed up annually until their age of 15 years. Regular assessments included the measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, and skinfold thicknesses; pubertal development was examined by trained investigators according to Tanner stages; dietary intake was obtained by three 24-h recalls and food frequency questionnaire; validated questionnaires were used to estimate socio-demographic characteristics, physical activity, and sedentary behaviors. Findings from the CAC baseline and the first follow-up data suggested that higher protein intake among girls and unhealthy eating habits among children might increase the risk for childhood obesity. Also, higher intakes of grain and meat and lower overall diet quality and intakes of dietary fiber and tuber might be associated with advanced pubertal development. Those results indicated that the CAC study could contribute to the development of strategies for optimizing Chinese children's health.

The role of diet in depression is becoming increasingly acknowledged. This umbrella review aimed to summarize comprehensively the current evidence reporting the effects of dietary factors on the prevention and treatment of depression. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched up to June 2021 to identify relevant meta-analyses of prospective studies. Twenty-eight meta-analyses, with 40 summary estimates on dietary patterns (n = 8), food and beverages (n = 19), and nutrients (n = 13) were eligible. The methodological quality of most meta-analyses was low (50.0%) or very low (25.0%). Quality of evidence was moderate for inverse associations for depression incidence with healthy diet [risk ratio (RR): 0.74, 95% confidential interval (CI), 0.48-0.99, I2 = 89.8%], fish (RR: 0.88, 95% CI, 0.79-0.97, I2 = 0.0%), coffee (RR: 0.89, 95% CI, 0.84-0.94, I2 = 32.9%), dietary zinc (RR: 0.66, 95% CI 0.50-0.82, I2 = 13.9%), light to moderate alcohol (<40 g/day, RR: 0.77, 95% CI, 0.74-0.83, I2 = 20.5%), as well as for positive association with sugar-sweetened beverages (RR: 1.05, 95% CI, 1.01-1.09, I2 = 0.0%). For depression treatment, moderate-quality evidence was identified for the effects of probiotic [standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.31, 95% CI, -0.56 to -0.07, I2 = 48.2%], omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (SMD: -0.28, 95% CI, -0.47 to -0.09, I2 = 75.0%) and acetyl-L-carnitine (SMD: -1.10, 95% CI, -1.65 to -0.56, I2 = 86.0%) supplementations. Overall, the associations between dietary factors and depression had been extensively evaluated, but none of them were rated as high quality of evidence, suggesting further studies are likely to change the summary estimates. Thus, more well-designed research investigating more detailed dietary factors in association with depression is warranted.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: To date, the prevalence of Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in China was 17.5%. Given the substantial relevance of GDM for medium- and long-term health of both mother and offspring and the paucity of existing data on the link between maternal diet and glucose homeostasis during pregnancy in Asian population, additional studies are needed. To examine the relevance of dietary glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL) and fiber intake before and during pregnancy for the development of GDM and glucose homeostasis over the course of pregnancy. METHODS: Cox proportional hazards analysis and linear mixed effects regressions were performed on data from 9317 women for whom three food frequency questionnaires (pre-pregnancy, 1st and 2nd trimesters) and biochemical measures during pregnancy were available. Investigated outcome variables included GDM risk, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters. RESULTS: Women in the highest tertile of dietary GI (or GL) before pregnancy, in the 1st, or the 2nd trimester respectively had a 12% (15%), 25% (23%) or 29% (25%) higher risk of developing GDM than those in the lowest tertile (all p for trend ≤ 0.02). Women with the highest dietary fiber intake before pregnancy, in the 1st or 2nd trimester had a 11%, 17% or 18% lower GDM risk (all p for trend ≤ 0.03). Moreover, increases in GI or GL and decreases in fiber intake over the course of pregnancy (1st to 3rd trimesters) were independently associated with adverse concurrent developments in FPG, HbA1C and HOMA-IR (p ≤ 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicates that dietary GI, GL and fiber intake before and during pregnancy affects glucose homeostasis of pregnant Chinese women.
