RESUMO

Phytopathogenic Fusarium graminearum poses significant threats to crop health and soil quality. Although our laboratory-cultivated Pseudomonas sp. P13 exhibited potential biocontrol capacities, its effectiveness against F. graminearum and underlying antifungal mechanisms are still unclear. In light of this, our study investigated a significant inhibitory effect of P13 on F. graminearum T1, both in vitro and in a soil environment. Conducting genomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic analyses of P13, we sought to identify evidence supporting its antagonistic effects on T1. The results revealed the potential of P13, a novel Pseudomonas species, to produce active antifungal components, including phenazine-1-carboxylate (PCA), hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and siderophores [pyoverdine (Pvd) and histicorrugatin (Hcs)], as well as the dynamic adaptive changes in the metabolic pathways of P13 related to these active ingredients. During the logarithmic growth stage, T1-exposed P13 strategically upregulated PCA and HCN biosynthesis, along with transient inhibition of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. However, with growth stabilization, upregulation of PCA and HCN synthesis ceased, whereas the TCA cycle was enhanced, increasing siderophores secretion (Pvd and Hcs), suggesting that this mechanism might have caused continuous inhibition of T1. These findings improved our comprehension of the biocontrol mechanisms of P13 and provided the foundation for potential application of Pseudomonas strains in the biocontrol of phytopathogenic F. graminearum. IMPORTANCE: Pseudomonas spp. produces various antifungal substances, making it an effective natural biocontrol agent against pathogenic fungi. However, the inhibitory effects and the associated antagonistic mechanisms of Pseudomonas spp. against Fusarium spp. are unclear. Multi-omics integration analyses of the in vitro antifungal effects of novel Pseudomonas species, P13, against F. graminearum T1 revealed the ability of P13 to produce antifungal components (PCA, HCN, Pvd, and Hcs), strategically upregulate PCA and HCN biosynthesis during logarithmic growth phase, and enhance the TCA cycle during stationary growth phase. These findings improved our understanding of the biocontrol mechanisms of P13 and its potential application against pathogenic fungi.

An artificial nociceptor, as a critical and special bionic receptor, plays a key role in a bioelectronic device that detects stimuli and provides warnings. However, fully exploiting bioelectronic applications remains a major challenge due to the lack of the methods of implementing basic nociceptor functions and nociceptive blockade in a single device. In this work, we developed a Pt/LiSiOx/TiN artificial nociceptor. It had excellent stability under the 104 endurance test with pulse stimuli and exhibited a significant threshold current of 1 mA with 1 V pulse stimuli. Other functions such as relaxation, inadaptation, and sensitization were all realized in a single device. Also, the pain blockade function was first achieved in this nociceptor with over a 25% blocking degree, suggesting a self-protection function. More importantly, an obvious depression was activated by a stimulus over 1.6 V due to the cooperative effects of both lithium ions and oxygen ions in LiSiOx and the dramatic accumulation of Joule heat. The conducting channel ruptured partially under sequential potentiation, thus achieving nociceptive blockade, besides basic functions in one single nociceptor, which was rarely reported. These results provided important guidelines for constructing high-performance memristor-based artificial nociceptors and opened up an alternative approach to the realization of bioelectronic systems for artificial intelligence.

Comparative nutritional analysis of Porphyra yezoensis strains "Jianghai No. 1" and "Sutong No.1" revealed significant differences in crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, crude ash, and total sugar. Both strains contained 16 amino acids, with alanine as the highest and histidine the lowest content. Methionine was determined to be the first limiting amino acid for both strains in both amino acid score and chemical score assessment. They also featured 24 fatty acids, differing notably in four saturated fatty acids and five unsaturated fatty acids. All 12 mineral elements were present, notably differing in sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, and zinc. The "Jianghai No. 1" strain stands out with its nutrient-rich profile, featuring high protein content, low fat, and abundant minerals, which could potentially command higher market prices and generate greater economic benefits due to its superior nutritional, and set a strong foundation for its future large-scale promotion and cultivation.

Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have gained significant attention in recent years due to their crucial roles in various biological processes. However, our understanding of the expression and functions of ncRNAs in Cyclina sinensis, an economically important marine bivalve, remains limited. This study aimed to address this knowledge gap by systematically identifying ncRNAs in the mantles of C. sinensis with purple and white shells. Through our analysis, we identified a differential expression of 1244 mRNAs, 196 lncRNAs, 49 circRNAs, and 23 miRNAs between purple- and white-shell clams. Functional enrichment analysis revealed the involvement of these differentially expressed ncRNAs in biomineralization and pigmentation processes. To gain further insights into the regulatory mechanisms underlying shell color formation, we established competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. These networks allowed us to identify targeted differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMis) and genes associated with shell color formation. Based on the ceRNA networks, we obtained an up-down-up lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network consisting of 13 upregulated lncRNAs and a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network comprising three upregulated circRNAs (novel_circ_0004787, novel_circ_0001165, novel_circ_0000245). Through these networks, we identified and selected an upregulated novel gene (evm.TU.Hic_asm_7.988) and a downregulated sponge miRNA (hru-miR-1985) as potential contributors to shell color regulation. In summary, the present investigation offers a comprehensive analysis of ncRNA catalogs expressed in the clam mantle of C. sinensis. The findings enhance our comprehension of the molecular mechanisms governing shell coloration and offer new perspectives for selective breeding of C. sinensis in the future.

This study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of Shumian Capsules in the treatment of insomnia. Randomized controlled trial(RCT) about Shumian Capsules for insomnia were retrieved from databases. RevMan 5.4 was used for statistical analysis. A total of 23 articles were included, involving 2 621 patients. Meta-analysis showed that Shumian Capsules had advantages in the treatment of insomnia(RR=1.07, 95%CI[1.03, 1.10], P=0.000 2) and insomnia with depression(RR=1.13, 95%CI[1.02, 1.25], P=0.02) in terms of total response rate. Shumian Capsules had advantages in the treatment of insomnia(MD=-0.75, 95%CI[-1.33,-0.17], P=0.01) and insomnia with depression(MD=-2.51, 95%CI[-2.96,-2.06], P<0.000 01) in terms of PSQI score. The incidence of adverse events in the Shumian Capsules(RR=0.33, 95%CI[0.24, 0.46], P<0.000 01) and Shumian Capsules + conventional western medicine(RR=0.71, 95%CI[0.54, 0.95], P=0.02) was lower than that in the conventional wes-tern medicine alone. In addition, Shumian Capsules had an advantage in treating insomnia complicated with depression in terms of HAMD score(P<0.000 1) and reducing the serum levels of 5-HT, TSH, T3, and T4 in insomnia patients(P<0.05). The quality of evidence was mostly medium or low. The studies demonstrate that Shumian Capsules is effective and safe for treating insomnia, which may be related to the mechanism of lowering the levels of 5-HT, TSH, T3, and T4 in the serum. In view of the quality of evidence, the application of Shumian Capsules should be considered after comprehensive evaluation in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Bicarbonate Ringer's (BR) solution is a direct liver and kidney metabolism-independent HCO3- buffering system. We hypothesized that BR solution would be more effective in improving acid-base equilibrium and more conducive to better liver function than Acetate Ringer's (AR) solution in conventional orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) patients. METHODS: Sixty-nine adult patients underwent OLT. Patients in the bicarbonate and acetate groups received BR solution or AR solution as infused crystalloids and graft washing solution, respectively. The primary outcome was the effect on pH and base excess (BE) levels. The secondary outcome measures were the incidence and volume of intraoperative 5% sodium bicarbonate infusion and laboratory indicates of liver and kidney function. RESULTS: The pH and absolute BE values changed significantly during the anhepatic phase and immediately after transplanted liver reperfusion in the bicarbonate group compared with the acetate group (all P < 0.05). The incidence and volume of 5% sodium bicarbonate infusion were lower in the bicarbonate group than in the acetate group (all P < 0.05). The aspartate transaminase (AST) level at 7 postoperative days and the creatine level at 30 postoperative days were significantly higher in the acetate group than in the bicarbonate group (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared with AR solution, BR solution was associated with improved intraoperative acid-base balance and potentially protected early postoperative liver graft function and reduced late-postoperative renal injury.

Antibiotics have been heavily used over the past decades, resulting in their frequent detections in rivers and increasing ecological risks. Recognizing characteristics of antibiotic ecological risks (AERs) and making effective strategies to mitigate the AERs are essential to ensure the safety of aquatic ecosystem and public health. In this study, an integrated technological framework has been proposed toward identifying management options for reducing AERs by jointly utilizing multimedia fugacity modelling and ecotoxicological risk assessment, and applied to characterize the AERs in a peri-urban river in Beijing. Specifically, a level III fugacity model has been successfully established to simulate the fate of antibiotics in the environment, and the manageable parameters have been screened out via sensitivity analysis of the model. Then the validated fugacity model has been used for scenario modellings to optimize mitigation strategies of AERs. Results show most of the antibiotics considered are frequently detected in the river, and pose medium or high risks to aquatic organisms. Relatively, the macrolides and fluoroquinolones present higher ecotoxicological risks than sulfonamides and tetracyclines. Furthermore, the mixture risk quotient and predictive equation of concentration addition suggest joint and synergistic/antagonistic effects of AERs for multiple or binary antibiotics in the environment. Largely, the concentrations of antibiotics in the river are determined by the source emissions into water and soil. Scenario modellings show the improvement of antibiotic removal rates would be considered preferentially to mitigate the AERs. Also, controlling human consumption is conducive to reducing the risks posed by tetracyclines, macrolides and trimethoprim, while controlling animal consumption would benefit the reduction for sulfonamides. Overall, the joint strategy presents the greatest reduction of AERs by reducing antibiotic consumption and together improving sewage treatment rate and antibiotic removal rate. The study provides us a useful guideline to make ecological risk-based mitigation strategy for reducing AERs in environment.

Sewage treatment plant (STP) effluents are important contributors of antibiotic resistance (AR) pollution in rivers. Effluent discharging into rivers causes resistome coalescence. However, their mechanisms and dynamic processes are poorly understood, especially for the effects of dilution, diffusion, and sunlight-induced attenuation on coalescence. In this study, we have constructed microcosmic experiments based on in-situ investigation to explore these issues. The first batch experiment revealed the effects of dilution and diffusion. The coverage of water coalesced resistomes ranged 66.26∼152.18 × /Gb and was positively correlated with effluent volume (Mann-Kendall test, p < 0.01). Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and source tracking analysis demonstrated that dilution and diffusion stepwise reduced AR pollution. The second batch experiment explored the temporal dynamics and sunlight attenuation on coalesced resistomes. Under natural light, the coverage and diversity of water resistomes posed decreasing trends, primarily attributed to drastic erasure of effluent traces. The proportion of effluent-specific ARGs in coalesced resistomes significantly declined over time (Spearman's r = -0.83 and -0.94 in coverage and richness). While under dark condition, the coverage and diversity increased. Sunlight radiation intensified the interactions between water and sediment resistomes, as evidenced by more shared ARGs and less dissimilarities across niches. Network analysis, metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) analysis and variation partitioning analysis (VPA) showed that microbiome controlled resistome coalescence, explaining 56.5% and 58.4% of resistomes in water and sediment, respectively. Biotic and abiotic factors synergistically explained 40% of water resistomes. This study offers a comprehensive understanding of AR transmission and provides theoretical bases for grasping AR pollution and developing effective suppression strategies.

In this paper, an anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) thin film sensor which can be used for magnetic scale has been prepared, and its output voltage is about 4.7-4.9 mV V-1. On the basis of the Stoner-Wohlfarth model and with considering the non-uniformity of the demagnetizing field along the width direction of the strips, both the static and dynamic responses of the AMR sensors have been calculated. The results have shown that the calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data. The magnetization rotation in the magnetic sensor strongly depends on the nonuniform demagnetizing field along the width direction. The magnetization at the center is easily rotated into the field direction, and the magnetization at the edge is difficult to be rotated. The smaller the width of the magnetoresistive strip is, the larger both the demagnetizing field at the edge and the saturation field of the magnetic sensor are. The results are helpful for understanding the magnetization rotation of magnetic sensors and developing the magnetic sensors with high performance.

Irrigation and fertilization are the routinely agricultural practices but also cause resistome coalescence, by which the entire microbiomes from irrigation materials invade soil microbial community, to transfer antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the coalesced soils. Although studies have reported the effect of irrigation or fertilization on the prevalence and spread of ARGs in soils, risk characteristics of resistome coalescence in irrigation system remain to be demonstrated and few has shown whether natural storage of irrigation materials will reduce resistance risks. To fill the gaps, two microscopic experiments were conducted for deeply exploring resistance risks in the soils irrigated with wastewater and manure fertilizer from a perspective of community coalescence by metagenomic analysis, and to reveal the effect of natural storage of irrigation materials on the reduction of resistance risks in the coalesced soils. Results showed irrigation and coalescence significantly increased the abundance and diversity of ARGs in the soils, and introduced some emerging resistance genes into the coalesced community, including mcr-type, tetX, qacB, and an array of genes conferring resistance to carbapenem. Procrustes analysis demonstrated microbial community was significantly correlated with the ARGs in coalesced soils, and variance partitioning analysis quantified its dominant role on shaping resistome profile in the environment. Besides ARGs, abundant and diverse mobile genetic elements (MGEs) were also identified in the coalesced soils and co-existed on the ARG-carrying contigs, implying potential transfer risk of ARGs in the irrigation system. Further, the analysis of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) confirmed the risk by recovering 358 ARGs-carrying MAGs and identifying the resistant bacteria that co-carried multiple ARGs and MGEs. As expected, the natural storage of irrigation water and manure fertilizer reduced about 27%-54% of ARGs, MGEs and virulence factors in the coalesced soils, thus caused the soils to move towards lower resistance risks to a certain extent.

Memristor-based neuromorphic computing is expected to overcome the bottleneck of von Neumann architecture. An artificial synaptic device with continuous conductance variation is essential for implementing bioinspired neuromorphic systems. In this work, a memristor based on Pt/LiSiOx/TiN structure is developed to emulate an artificial synapse, which shows non-volatile multilevel resistance state memory behavior. Moreover, the high nonlinearity caused by abrupt changes in the set process is optimized by adjusting the initial resistance. 100 levels of continuously modulated conductance states are achieved and the nonlinearity factors are reduced to 1.31. The significant improvement is attributed to the decrease in the Schottky barrier height and the evolution of the conductive filaments. Finally, due to the improved linearity of the long-term potentiation/long-term depression behaviors in LiSiOxmemristor, a robust recognition rate (∼94.58%) is achieved for pattern recognition with the modified National Institute of Standards and Technology handwriting database. The Pt/LiSiOx/TiN memristor shows significant potential in high-performance multilevel data storage and neuromorphic computing systems.

BACKGROUND: The age of onset of hypertension (HTN) is decreasing, and obesity is a significant risk factor. The prevalence and racial disparities in pediatric HTN and the association between body composition and blood pressure are insufficiently studied. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of HTN in Chinese and American children and adolescents and to assess the relationship between various body composition indices and HTN. METHODS: Seven thousand, five hundred and seventy-three Chinese and 6239 American children and adolescents aged 8-18 years from the 2013-2015 China Child and Adolescent Cardiovascular Health study and the 2011-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were analyzed. Blood pressure and body composition (fat and muscle) were measured by trained staff. The crude prevalence and age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) of primary HTN and its subtypes [isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) and isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH)] were calculated based on 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. Multivariable-adjusted linear regression coefficients and odds ratios (ORs) were calculated to assess the associations of body composition indicators with HTN, ISH and IDH. RESULTS: The ASPR of HTN was 18.5% in China (CN) and 4.6% in the United States (US), whereas the obesity prevalence was 7.4% and 18.6%, and the population attributable risk of HTN caused by overweight and obesity was higher in the US than in CN. Increased fat mass, muscle mass and body fat percentage mass were associated with a higher risk of HTN in both countries. The percent of muscle body mass had a protective effect on HTN and ISH in both countries [HTN (CN: OR = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.78-0.88; US: OR = 0.72, 95% CI = 0.64-0.81); ISH (CN: OR = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.80-0.94; US: OR = 0.71, 95% CI = 0.62-0.81)], and the protective effect was more common among children and adolescents with high levels of physical activity. CONCLUSIONS: The burden of HTN in Chinese children and adolescents was substantial and much greater than that in the US, and the contribution of obesity to HTN was higher in the US than in CN. Augmenting the proportion of muscle mass in body composition has a protective effect against HTN in both populations. Optimizing body composition positively influences blood pressure in children and adolescents, particularly those with high-level physical activity. Video abstract (MP4 149982 KB).

Healthcare systems worldwide have been stressed to provide sufficient resources to serve the increasing and aging population in our society. The situation became more challenging at the time of pandemic. Technology advancement, especially the adoption of wearable health monitoring devices, has provided an important supplement to current clinical equipment. Most health monitoring devices are rigid, however, human tissues are soft. Such a difference has prohibited intimate contact between the two and jeopardized wearing comfortableness, which hurdles measurement accuracy especially during longtime usage. Here, we report a soft and stretchable photodiode that can conformally adhere onto the human body without any pressure and measure cardiovascular variables for an extended period with higher reliability than commercial devices. The photodiode used a composite light absorber consisting of an organic bulk heterojunction embedded into an elastic polymer matrix. It is discovered that the elastic polymer matrix not only improves the morphology of the bulk heterojunction for obtaining the desired mechanical properties but also alters its electronic band structure and improves the electrical properties that lead to a reduced dark current and enhanced photovoltage in the stretchable photodiode. The work has demonstrated high fidelity measurements and longtime monitoring of heat rate variability and oxygen saturation, potentially enabling next-generation wearable photoplethysmography devices for point-of-care diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in a more accessible and affordable way.

Negative capacitance field effect transistors made of Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO) are one of the most promising candidates for low-power-density devices because of the extremely steep subthreshold swing and high open-state currents resulting from the addition of ferroelectric materials in the gate dielectric layer. In this paper, HZO thin films were prepared by magnetron sputtering combined with rapid thermal annealing. Their ferroelectric properties were adjusted by changing the annealing temperature and the thickness of HZO. Two-dimensional MoS2 back-gate negative capacitance field-effect transistors (NCFETs) based on HZO were prepared as well. Different annealing temperatures, thicknesses of HZO thin films, and Al2O3 thicknesses were studied to achieve optimal capacitance matching, aiming to reduce both the subthreshold swing of the transistor and the hysteresis of the NCFET. The NCFET exhibits a minimum subthreshold swing as low as 27.9 mV/decade, negligible hysteresis (∼20 mV), and the ION/IOFF of up to 1.58 × 107. Moreover, a negative drain-induced barrier lowering effect and a negative differential resistance effect have been observed. This steep-slope transistor is compatible with standard CMOS manufacturing processes and attractive for 2D logic and sensor applications as well as future energy-efficient nanoelectronic devices with scaled power supplies.

Heavy metals (HMs) pose ecological and resistome risks to aquatic systems. To efficiently develop targeted risk mitigation strategies, apportioning HM sources and assessing their source-oriented risks are essential. Although many studies have reported risk assessment and source apportionment of HMs, yet few have explored source-specific ecological and resistome risks associated with geochemical enrichment of HMs in aquatic environments. Therefore, this study proposes an integrated technological framework to characterize source-oriented ecological and resistome risks in the sediments of a plain river in China. Several geochemical tools quantitatively showed Cd and Hg had the highest pollution levels in the environment, with 19.7 and 7.5 times higher than their background values, respectively. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) and Unmix were comparatively used to apportion sources of HMs. Essentially, the two models were complementary and identified similar sources including industrial discharges, agricultural activities, atmospheric deposition and natural background, with contributions of 32.3-37.0%, 8.0-9.0%, 12.1-15.9% and 42.8-43.0%, respectively. To analyze source-specific ecological risks, the apportionment results were integratively incorporated into a modified ecological risk index. The results showed anthropogenic sources were the most significant contributors to the ecological risks. Particularly, industrial discharges majorly contributed high- (44%) and extremely high (52%) ecological risk for Cd, while agricultural activities posed a greater percentage of considerable-(36%) and high- (46%) ecological risk for Hg. Furthermore, the high-throughput sequencing metagenomic analysis identified abundant and diverse antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), including some carbapenem-resistance genes and emerging genes such as mcr-type in the river sediments. Network and statistical analyses displayed significant correlations between ARGs and geochemical enrichment of HMs (ρ > 0.8; P-value <0.01), indicating their important impacts on resistome risks in the environment. This study provides useful insights into risk prevention and pollution control of HMs, and the framework can be made applicable to other rivers facing environmental challenges worldwide.

Redclaw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) was introduced to China many years ago. In recent years, a breeding boom for C. quadricarinatus has been set off in China due to a breakthrough in key technology of seedling breeding. The size and growth rate of C. quadricarinatus vary greatly between female and male individuals, usually the size and growth rate of male individuals are bigger than that of female individuals. There is usually a certain linkage relationship between the sex traits of crustaceans and their own nutrition. In order to explore the linkage relationship between the sex traits of C. quadricarinatus and its nutritional components, this study measured and analyzed the muscle nutritional components of female and male individuals. The results showed that the meat yield rate of male individuals was significantly higher than that of females (p < 0.05), and the crude fat content was significantly lower than that for females (p < 0.05). The ratios of essential amino acids to total amino acids for females and males were 39.61% and 38.49%, respectively. The ratios of essential amino acids to non-essential amino acids were 79.69% and 75.66%, respectively, which far exceed FAO/WHO standards and both belong to high-quality protein. The total amount of flavor amino acids of male individuals was significantly higher than that of female individuals (p < 0.05). The total amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids and the polyunsaturated fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid of males are both significantly higher than that of females (p < 0.05). Studies have shown that there are certain differences in nutrition between male and female individuals. Compared with female individuals, the meat yield rate, crude protein content, and edible value of the muscles of male individuals is higher.

Expansion of the hexanucleotide repeat GGGGCC in the C9orf72 gene is the most common genetic factor in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Poly-Gly-Ala (poly-GA), one form of dipeptide repeat proteins (DPRs) produced from GGGGCC repeats, tends to form neurotoxic protein aggregates. The C9orf72 GGGGCC repeats and microglial receptor TREM2 are both associated with risk for ALS/FTD. The role and regulation of TREM2 in C9orf72-ALS/FTD remain unclear. Here, we found that poly-GA proteins activate the microglial NLRP3 inflammasome to produce interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), which promotes ADAM10-mediated TREM2 cleavage and inhibits phagocytosis of poly-GA. The inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome, MCC950, reduces the TREM2 cleavage and poly-GA aggregates, resulting in the alleviation of motor deficits in poly-GA mice. Our study identifies a crosstalk between NLRP3 and TREM2 signaling, suggesting that targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome to sustain TREM2 is an approach to treat C9orf72-ALS/FTD.

The application of reclaimed water has been recognized as the key approach for alleviating water scarcity, while its low quality, such as high nitrogen content, still makes people worry about the corresponding ecological risk. Herein, we investigated the feasibility of removing residual nitrate from reclaimed water by applying Spirulina platensis. It is found that 15 mg/L total nitrogen could be decreased to 1.8 mg/L in 5 days, equaling 88.1 % removal efficiency under the optimized conditions. The deficient phosphorus at 0.5-1.0 mg/L was rapidly eliminated but was already sufficient to support nitrate removal by S. platensis. The produced ammonia is generally below 0.2 mg/L, which is much lower than the standard limit of 5 mg/L. In such a nutrient deficiency condition, S. platensis could maintain biomass growth well via photosynthesis. The variation of pigments, including chlorophyll a and carotenoids, suggested a certain degree of influences of illumination intensity and phosphorus starvation on microalgae. The background cations Cu2+ and Zn2+ exhibited significant inhibition on biomass growth and nitrate removal; thus, more attention needs to be paid to the further application of microalgae in reclaimed water. Our results demonstrated that cultivation of S. platensis should be a very promising solution to improve the quality of reclaimed water by efficiently removing nitrate and producing biomass.

High-density storage and neuromorphic devices based on 2D materials are hindered by large-scale growth. Moreover, the lack of a mature mechanism makes it difficult to obtain high-quality single crystals in large-scale 2D materials. In this work, we prepared a centimeter-scale single crystal α-MoO3via an oxygen assisted substrate-free self-standing growth method and mechanism and constructed high-performance synaptic devices based on the centimeter-scale α-MoO3. The oxygen assisted growth mechanism of α-MoO3 was developed from the periodic bond chain theory. The large-scale α-MoO3 is up to 2 cm and exhibits high homogeneity and single crystalline characteristic. Furthermore, with an optimized oxygen partial pressure (18%), the centimeter-scale α-MoO3 makes the as-prepared memristor achieve continuous conductance modulation. Moreover, the trap-controlled electron conducting mechanism of the memristor was demonstrated through I-V curve fitting analysis at various temperatures, in which the high resistance state section demonstrates space-charge-limited conduction (SCLC) mode. Moreover, the as-prepared α-MoO3 memristors exhibit low-energy consumption and well emulate the essential synaptic behaviors including excitatory/inhibitory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation and long-term plasticity.
