RESUMO

Hydrogels with strong adhesion to wet tissues are considered promising for wound dressings. However, the clinical application of adhesive hydrogel dressing remains a challenge due to the issues of secondary damage during dressing changes. Herein, we fabricated an adhesion-switchable hydrogel formed with poly(acrylamide)-co-poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide), quaternary ammonium chitosan and tannic acid. This hydrogel forms instant and robust adhesion to the skin at body temperature. However, as the temperature rises above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), the hydrogel loses its adhesion towards the wound area due to the temperature-dependent volume phase transition of the copolymer, occurring around 45 °C. Consequently, the designed hydrogel can be easily detached from adhered tissues upon demand, providing a facile and effective method for painless dressing changes without secondary damage. This hydrogel holds great promise for long-term application in wound dressings.

RESUMO

Cannabis-drug interactions have caused significant concerns, mainly due to their role in the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme-mediated metabolic pathway of numerous medications. A systematic review was conducted to gain an overview of the potential interactions of cannabis with different drug classes by extracting pertinent information from published study data. From the inception of the study to October 1, 2023, we performed a systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, clinicaltrials.gov, and Web of Science. We included 54 out of 464 articles, and a total of 20 drug classes were identified to have interactions with medicinal cannabis. The cannabis-drug interactions were assessed and classified according to their probability and severity. The analysis revealed that antiepileptics had the most evidence of interaction with cannabis, followed by clobazam (CLB), warfarin, and tacrolimus. Generally, cannabis-drug interactions result in pharmacokinetic (PK) or pharmacodynamic (PD) changes. Therefore, careful monitoring should be performed to detect any unusual elevations in plasma levels. In addition, dose titrations or treatment withdrawal could help mitigate the adverse effects attributed to cannabis-drug interactions. Nevertheless, novel drugs are constantly emerging, and more research is needed to further identify potential interactions with cannabis.

RESUMO

At present, there is a lack of sufficiently specific laboratory diagnostic indicators for schizophrenia. Serum homocysteine (Hcy) levels have been found to be related to schizophrenia. Cysteine (Cys) is a demethylation product in the metabolism of Hcy, and they always coexist with highly similar structures in vivo. There are few reports on the use of Cys as a diagnostic biomarker for schizophrenia in collaboration with Hcy, mainly because the rapid, economical, accurate, and high-throughput simultaneous detection of Cys and Hcy in serum is highly challenging. Herein, a click reaction-based surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensor was developed for simultaneous and selective detection of Cys and Hcy. Through the efficient and specific CBT-Cys click reaction between the probe containing cyan benzothiazole and Cys/Hcy, the tiny methylene difference between the molecular structures of Cys and Hcy was converted into the difference between the ring skeletons of the corresponding products that could be identified by plasmonic silver nanoparticle enhanced molecular fingerprint spectroscopy to realize discriminative detection. Furthermore, the SERS sensor was successfully applied to the detection in related patient serum samples, and it was found that the combined analysis of Cys and Hcy can improve the diagnostic accuracy of schizophrenia compared to a single indicator.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has certain limitations in distinguishing between malignant and benign urinary bladder (UB) lesions. Amide proton transfer (APT) imaging may provide more diagnostic information than diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to distinguish between malignant and benign UB. PURPOSE: To investigate the potential of APT imaging in the diagnosis of malignant and benign UB lesions and to compare its diagnostic efficacy with that of conventional DWI. STUDY TYPE: Prospective. SUBJECTS: Eighty patients with UB lesions. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: A 3.0 T/turbo spin echo (TSE) T1-weighted and T2-weighted imaging, single-shot echo planar DWI, and three-dimensional TSE APT imaging. ASSESSMENT: Patients underwent radical cystectomy or transurethral resection of the bladder lesions within 2 weeks after CT urography and MRI examination. APT signal intensity in UB lesions was quantified by the asymmetric magnetization transfer ratio (MTRasym ). MTRasym and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were measured and compared between malignant and benign UB lesions. STATISTICAL TESTS: Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Student's t test or Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman rank correlation coefficient, area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC), Delong test, and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The significance threshold was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS: Thirty-two patients had pathologically confirmed benign UB lesions, including 2 bladder leiomyomas, 1 submucosal amyloidosis, 1 inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, and 28 inflammatory lesions, and 48 patients had pathologically confirmed urothelial carcinoma. Urothelial carcinomas showed significantly higher MTRasym values (1.53% [0.74%] vs. 0.85% [0.23%]) and significantly lower ADC values (1.24 ± 0.34 × 10-3 mm2 /s vs. 1.43 ± 0.22 × 10-3 mm2 /s) than benign UB lesions. The MTRasym value (AUC = 0.928) was significantly better in differentiating urothelial carcinoma from benign UB lesions than the ADC value (AUC = 0.722). DATA CONCLUSION: APT imaging may have value in discriminating malignant from benign UB lesions and has better diagnostic performance than DWI. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Renal fibrosis (RF), being the most important pathological change in the progression of CKD, is currently assessed by the evaluation of a biopsy. This present study aimed to apply a novel functional MRI (fMRI) protocol named amide proton transfer (APT) weighting to evaluate RF noninvasively. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were initially subjected to bilateral kidney ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), unilateral ureteral obstruction, and sham operation, respectively. All rats underwent APT mapping on the 7th and 14th days after operation. Besides, 26 patients underwent renal biopsy at the Nephrology Department of Shanghai Tongji Hospital between July 2022 and May 2023. Patients underwent APT and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mappings within 1 week before biopsy. MRI results of both patients and rats were calculated by comparing with gold standard histology for fibrosis assessment. RESULTS: In animal models, the cortical APT (cAPT) and medullary APT (mAPT) values were positively correlated with the degree of RF. Compared to the sham group, IRI group showed significantly increased cAPT and mAPT values on the 7th and 14th days after surgery, but no group differences were found in ADC values. Similar results were found in human patients. Cortical/medullary APT values were significantly increased in patients with moderate-to-severe fibrosis than in patients with mild fibrosis. ROC curve analysis indicated that APT value displayed a better diagnostic value for RF. Furthermore, combination of cADC and cAPT improved fibrosis detection by imaging variables alone (p < 0.1). CONCLUSION: APT values had better diagnostic capability at early stage of RF compared to ADC values, and the addition of APT imaging to conventional ADC will significantly improve the diagnostic performance for predicting kidney fibrosis.

RESUMO

Owing to its excellent multiplexing ability, high stability, and molecular fingerprint characteristics, Raman encoding has been widely used in security labels for medical safety, jewelry identification and food supervision. Various growing demands have promoted the anti-counterfeiting mode of security labels based on Raman encoding from the classic one that relies on specific patterns to the more secure one that depends on random patterns. As impressive progress has been made in Raman encoding for security labels in recent years, this review attempts to comprehensively cover security labels based on Raman encoding, from label preparation to image verification. For the labels with different anti-counterfeiting modes, the different basic elements they need are summarized, and the role of Raman encoding in different modes is introduced. In addition, security labels based on Raman encoding still have some drawbacks. Therefore, suggestions on how to improve its anti-counterfeiting performance are also discussed, as well as future challenges and prospects.

RESUMO

While the global COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, microbial aerosol detection has become of high concern. Timely, accurate, and highly sensitive monitoring of microbial aerosols in indoor air is the basis for effective prevention and control of infectious diseases. At present, no commercial equipment or reliable technology can simultaneously control the detection time and limit at 6 h and 102 CFU/mL, respectively. Based on the "safety size range" of particulate matter in the air, we propose a new method of microbial dilation detection, which enables the pathogen to grow rapidly and dramatically into a polymeric microsphere, larger in size than the coexisting aerosol particles. "Like a crane standing among chickens", the microorganism can be easily visualized and counted. Different from routine chemical and biological sensing technologies, this method can achieve absolute counting of microbial particles, and the simple principles can be developed into devices for different life scenarios.

RESUMO

Studies concerning the toxicity of pollutant-loaded nanoplastics (NPs) toward humans are still in their infancy. Here, we evaluated the adsorption of microcystins (MCs) by pristine and aged polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs), prepared MCs-loaded aged PSNPS (1, 5, 10, 15, and 19 µg/mg), and systematically mapped the key molecular changes induced by aged and MCs-loaded PSNPs to human hepatoblastoma (HepG2) cells. According to the results, MC-LR adsorption is increased 2.64-fold by aging, and PSNP accumulation is detected in HepG2 cells. The cytotoxicity of the MC-LR-loaded aged PSNPs showed a positive relationship with the MC-LR amount, as the cell viability in the 19 µg/mg loading treatment (aPS-MC19) was 10.84% lower than aged PSNPs; meanwhile, more severe oxidative damage was observed. Primary approaches involved stressing the endoplasmic reticulum and reducing protein synthesis that the aged PSNPs posed for HepG2 cells, while the aggravated cytotoxicity in aPS-MC19 treatment was a combined result of the metabolic energy disorder, oxidative damage, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and downregulation of the MC-LR target protein. Our results confirm that the aged PSNPs could bring more MC-LR into the HepG2 cells, significantly interfere with biological processes, and provide new insight into deciphering the risk of NPs to humans.

RESUMO

Hydrogel dressings that can fit irregular wounds, promote wound healing, and detach from wounds without damage represent the development trend of modern medical dressings. Herein, a novel composite hydrogel with excellent wound shape matching and painless removability via a gel-sol phase transition is constructed through dynamic borate ester bonds between phenylboronic acid-grafted F127 (PF127) and polydopamine-coated reduced graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles (rGO@PDA/Ag NPs). After contact with the skin tissues, the administered liquid-like sols gradually transform into solid-like gels, robustly adhering to the wound. The hydrogel dressings containing near-infrared (NIR)-responsive rGO@PDA and in situ formed Ag NPs can generate localized heat and gradually release Ag+ to realize safe, effective, and durable photothermal-chemical combined sterilization. In addition, catechol-rich PDA endows the hydrogel dressings with good antioxidant activity and adhesiveness. In vivo study results indicate that the hydrogel dressings can significantly accelerate full-thickness skin infected wound healing by eliminating bacteria, promoting collagen deposition and angiogenesis, as well as reducing inflammation. Collectively, the thermoreversible rGO@PDA/Ag-PF127 hydrogel dressings with an improved self-adapting ability, superior antimicrobial activity, and tunable adhesion appear to be a promising candidate for the treatment of infected wounds.

RESUMO

Background: Cancer survival is an important indicator for evaluating cancer prognosis and cancer care outcomes. The incidence dates used in calculating survival differ between population-based registries and hospital-based registries. Studies examining the effects of the left truncation of incidence dates and delayed reporting on survival estimates are scarce in real-world applications. Methods: Cancer cases hospitalized at Nantong Tumor Hospital during the years 2002-2017 were traced with their records registered in the Qidong Cancer Registry. Survival was calculated using the life table method for cancer patients with the first visit dates recorded in the hospital-based cancer registry (HBR) as the diagnosis date (OSH), those with the registered dates of population-based cancer (PBR) registered as the incidence date (OSP), and those with corrected dates when the delayed report dates were calibrated (OSC). Results: Among 2,636 cases, 1,307 had incidence dates registered in PBR prior to the diagnosis dates of the first hospitalization registered in HBR, while 667 cases with incidence dates registered in PBR were later than the diagnosis dates registered in HBR. The 5-year OSH, OSP, and OSC were 36.1%, 37.4%, and 39.0%, respectively. The "lost" proportion of 5-year survival due to the left truncation for HBR data was estimated to be between 3.5% and 7.4%, and the "delayed-report" proportion of 5-year survival for PBR data was found to be 4.1%. Conclusion: Left truncation of survival in HBR cases was demonstrated. The pseudo-left truncation in PBR should be reduced by controlling delayed reporting and maximizing completeness. Our study provides practical references and suggestions for evaluating the survival of cancer patients with HBR and PBR.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility and tolerability of metoprolol standard dosing pathway (MSDP) in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS: In this multicenter, prospective, open label, single-arm and interventional study that was conducted from February 2018 to April 2019 in fifteen Chinese hospitals. A total of 998 hospitalized patients aged ≥ 18 years and diagnosed with ACS were included. The MSDP was applied to all eligible ACS patients based on the standard treatment recommended by international guidelines. The primary endpoint was the percentage of patients achieving the target dose at discharge (V2). The secondary endpoints included the heart rate and blood pressure at V2 and four weeks after discharge (V4), and percentage of patients experiencing bradycardia (heart rate < 50 beats/min), hypotension (blood pressure < 90/60 mmHg) and transient cardiac dysfunction at V2 and V4. RESULTS: Of the 998 patients, 29.46% of patients achieved the target dose (≥ 95 mg/d) at V2. The total population was divided into two groups: target group (patients achieving the target dose at V2) and non-target group (patients not achieving the target dose at V2). There was significant difference in the reduction of heart rate from baseline to discharge in the two groups (-4.97 ± 11.90 beats/min vs. -2.70 ± 9.47 beats/min, P = 0.034). There was no significant difference in the proportion of bradycardia that occurred in the two groups at V2 (0 vs. 0, P = 1.000) and V4 (0.81% vs. 0.33%, P = 0.715). There was no significant difference in the proportion of hypotension between the two groups at V2 (0.004% vs. 0.004%, P = 1.000) and V4 (0 vs. 0.005%, P = 0.560). No transient cardiac dysfunction occurred in two groups during the study. A total of five adverse events (1.70%) and one serious adverse event (0.34%) were related to the pathway in target group. CONCLUSIONS: In Chinese ACS patients, the feasibility and tolerability of the MSDP have been proved to be acceptable.

RESUMO

Poorly healing and nonhealing diabetic wounds are challenging to treat as the rapid growth of bacteria due to the high local glucose content can lead to persistent inflammation and poor angiogenesis. Herein, a smart hydrogel dressing composed of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine/ferrous ion/Pluronic F-127/glucose oxidase (TMB/Fe2+/PF127/GOx) is designed and demonstrated to consume blood glucose while accelerating wound healing by generating antibacterial agents in situ. The loaded GOx degrades blood glucose to provide hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and gluconic acid to support the Fe2+-based Fenton reaction, and the generated hydroxyl radical (·OH) facilitates the oxidation of TMB. The color change from colorless to green caused by the oxidation of TMB in the blood glucose range between 1 and 10 mM can be monitored visually. Simultaneously, this process induced chemodynamic therapy (CDT) by the specific generation of hydroxyl radical (·OH) for killing bacteria. Moreover, the oxidized TMB shows strong absorption in the near infrared (NIR) region so that NIR light can be converted into heat efficiently for photothermal therapy (PTT). As a result, nearly 100% of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli are killed by synergistic PTT/CDT, and the infected skin wounds undergo complete repair along with downregulation of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and upregulation of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metallopeptidase-2 (MMP-2). Different from traditional wound dressings that can give rise to secondary injury, the excellent thermosensitive properties arising from the sol/gel phase transition render the hydrogel dressing materials injectable, self-reparable, and removable on demand. The multifunctional hydrogel with hypoglycemic, chemodynamic, photothermal, antibacterial, and on-demand thermosensitive properties has immense potential in the treatment of diabetic wounds.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is one of the major pathological processes associated with various liver surgeries. However, there is still a lack of strategies to protect against hepatic I/R injury because of the unknown underlying mechanism. The present study aimed to identify a potential strategy and provide a fundamental experimental basis for treating hepatic I/R injury. METHOD: A classic 70% ischemia/reperfusion injury was established. Immunoprecipitation was used to identify direct interactions between proteins. The expression of proteins from different subcellular localizations was detected by Western blotting. Cell translocation was directly observed by immunofluorescence. HE, TUNEL and ELISA were performed for function tests. RESULT: We report that tripartite motif containing 37 (TRIM37) aggravates hepatic I/R injury through the reinforcement of IKK-induced inflammation following dual patterns. Mechanistically, TRIM37 directly interacts with tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6), inducing K63 ubiquitination and eventually leading to the phosphorylation of IKKß. TRIM37 enhances the translocation of IKKγ, a regulatory subunit of the IKK complex, from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, thereby stabilizing the cytoplasmic IKK complex and prolonging the duration of inflammation. Inhibition of IKK rescued the function of TRIM37 in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSION: Collectively, the present study discloses some potential function of TRIM37 in hepatic I/R injury. Targeting TRIM37 might be potential for treatment against hepatic I/R injury.Targeting TRIM37 might be a potential treatment strategy against hepatic I/R injury.

RESUMO

The ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) was used to conduct the qualitative analysis of the monoterpene chemical components from Paeoniae Radix Rubra. Gradient elution was performed on C_(18) HD(2.1 mm×100 mm, 2.5 µm) column with a mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid(A) and acetonitrile(B). The flow rate was 0.4 mL·min~(-1) and the column temperature was 30 ℃. MS analysis was conducted in both positive and negative ionization modes using electrospray ionization(ESI) source. Qualitative Analysis 10.0 was used for data processing. The identification of chemical components was realized by the combination of standard compounds, fragmentation patterns, and mass spectra data reported in the literature. Forty-one monoterpenoids in Paeoniae Radix Rubra extract were identified. Among them, 8 compounds were reported in Paeoniae Radix Rubra for the first time and 1 was presumed to be the new compound 5″-O-methyl-galloylpaeoniflorin or its positional isomer. The method in this study realizes the rapid identification of monoterpenoids from Paeoniae Radix Rubra and provides a material and scientific basis for quality control and further study on the pharmaceutical effect of Paeoniae Radix Rubra.

RESUMO

Ciwujia injection is commonly used to treat cerebrovascular and central nervous system diseases in clinical practice. It can significantly improve blood lipid levels and endothelial cell function in patients with acute cerebral infarction and promote the proliferation of neural stem cells in cerebral ischemic brain tissues. The injection has also been reported to have good curative effects on cerebrovascular diseases, such as hypertension and cerebral infarction. At present, the material basis of Ciwujia injection remains incompletely understood, and only two studies have reported dozens of components, which were determined using high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-Q-TOF MS). Unfortunately, the lack of research on this injection restricts the in-depth study of its therapeutic mechanism. In the present study, a qualitative method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-electrostatic field orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS) was developed to analyze the chemical components of Ciwujia injection. Separation was performed on a BEH Shield RP18 column (100 mm×2.1 mm, 1.7 µm) using 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution (A) and acetonitrile (B) as the mobile phases, and gradient elution was performed as follows: 0-2 min, 0%B; 2-4 min, 0%B-5%B; 4-15 min, 5%B-20%B; 15-15.1 min, 20%B-90%B; 15.1-17 min, 90%B. The flow rate and column temperature were set to 0.4 mL/min and 30 ℃ respectively. MS1 and MS2 data were acquired in both positive- and negative-ion modes using a mass spectrometer equipped with an HESI source. For data post-processing, a self-built library including component names, molecular formulas, and chemical structures was established by collecting information on the isolated chemical compounds of Acanthopanax senticosus. The chemical components of the injection were identified by comparison with standard compounds or MS2 data in commercial databases or literature based on precise relative molecular mass and fragment ion information. The fragmentation patterns were also considered. For example, the MS2 data of 3-caffeoylquinic acid (chlorogenic acid), 4-caffeoylquinic acid (cryptochlorogenic acid), and 5-caffeoylquinic acid (neochlorogenic acid) were first analyzed. The results indicated that these compounds possessed similar fragmentation behaviors, yielding product ions at m/z 173 and m/z 179 simultaneously. However, the abundance of the product ion at m/z 173 was much higher in 4-caffeoylquinic acid than in 5-caffeoylquinic acid or 3-caffeoylquinic acid, and the fragment signal at m/z 179 was much stronger for 5-caffeoylquinic acid than for 3-caffeoylquinic acid. Four caffeoylquinic acids were identified using a combination of abundance information and retention times. MS2 data in commercial database and literature were also used to identify unknown constituents. For example, compound 88 was successfully identified as possessing a relative molecular mass and neutral losses similar to those of sinapaldehyde using the database, and compound 80 was identified as salvadoraside because its molecular and fragmentation behaviors were consistent with those reported in the literature. A total of 102 constituents, including 62 phenylpropanoids, 23 organic acids, 7 nucleosides, 1 iridoid, and 9 other compounds, were identified. The phenylpropanoids can be further classified as phenylpropionic acids, phenylpropanols, benzenepropanals, coumarins, and lignans. Among the detected compounds, 16 compounds were confirmed using reference compounds and 65 compounds were identified in Ciwujia injection for the first time. This study is the first to report the feasibility of using the UHPLC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS method to quickly and comprehensively analyze the chemical components of Ciwujia injection. The 27 newly discovered phenylpropanoids provide further material basis for the clinical treatment of neurological diseases and new research targets for the in-depth elucidation of the pharmacodynamic mechanism of Ciwujia injection and its related preparations.

RESUMO

The development of a convenient, sensitive, rapid and self-sterilizing biosensor for microbial detection is important for the prevention and control of foodborne diseases. Herein, we designed a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing nanoplatform based on a capture-enrichment-enhancement strategy to detect bacteria. The gold-Azo@silver-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (Au-Azo@Ag-CTAB) SERS nanotags were obtained by optimizing the synthesis process conditions. The results showed that the modification of CTAB enabled the nanotags to bind to different bacteria electrostatically. This SERS sensing nanoplatform was demonstrated to be fast (15 min), accurate and sensitive (limit of detection (LOD): 300 and 400 CFU/mL for E. coli and S. aureus, respectively). Of note, the excellent endogenous antibacterial activity of CTAB allowed the complete inactivation of bacteria after the assay process, thus effectively avoiding secondary contamination.

RESUMO

Biofilms are known to be a great challenge for their anti-bacterial activity as they obstruct drug action for deeper and more thorough bacteria-killing effects. Therefore, developing highly effective antibacterial agents to destroy biofilms and eradicate bacteria is of great significance. Herein, a new type of nanocomposites (denoted as poly(4-cyanostyrene)@silver@polylysine) is proposed, in which polylysine (PLL) could rapidly capture the biofilms and exhibit excellent antibacterial efficacy together with decorated silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) through the charge effect and Ag+ release. Notably, nearly 100% antibacterial rates against Gram-positive bacterium (Staphylococcus aureus, S. aureus) and Gram-negative bacterium (Escherichia coli, E. coli) were achieved. More importantly, poly(4-cyanostyrene) with biological silent Raman imaging capacity is able to illustrate the relationship between antibacterial efficiency and biofilm breakage. In short, such novel nanocomposites can improve the bioavailability of each component and display tremendous potential in antibacterial applications.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess the ability of amide proton transfer (APT) imaging, in comparison with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), to differentiate low-grade from high-grade bladder tumors and predict the aggressiveness of bladder cancer (BCa). METHODS: Forty-eight patients diagnosed with BCa confirmed by histopathological findings who underwent magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, including APT imaging and DWI (b = 0, 1000 sec/mm2), were enrolled in this study. The asymmetric magnetization transfer ratio (MTRasym) was defined as the magnetization transfer asymmetry at 3.5 ppm. MTRasym and apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) were compared between the low- and high-grade groups and between non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) in terms of the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs). RESULTS: The MTRasym values were significantly higher in patients with high-grade bladder tumors than in those with low-grade tumors (1.61 % [0.76 %], 1.12 ± 0.3 %; P = 0.000) and in MIBC than in NMIBC (2.53 ± 0.67 %, 1.38 % [0.35 %]; P = 0.000). The AUCs of MTRasym were significantly larger than those of ADC for differentiating MIBC from NMIBC (0.973, 0.771; P = 0.016). Adding APT imaging to DWI significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy for differentiating MIBC from NMIBC versus DWI alone (0.985, 0.876; P = 0.013). CONCLUSIONS: APT imaging can predict tumor grade and aggressiveness in BCa. The diagnostic performance of APT imaging in predicting tumor aggressiveness was better than that of DWI, and adding APT imaging to DWI significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of predicting tumor aggressiveness versus DWI alone.
