RESUMO

Histamine receptors are classified into 4 types: H1, H2, H3, and H4, each mediating distinct physiological effects and possessing its corresponding antagonistshat that can be used for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Among them, H1 antihistamines are the fundamental medications in dermatology and are widely used in many diseases such as urticaria and atopic dermatitis. In recent years, with the emergence of novel antihistamines and the discovery of new potential indications for traditional H1 antihistamines, the clinical application of antihistamines is facing new challenges. Further investigation of the novel mechanism for H1 antihistamines, the use of multiple doses of common drugs and potential indications will furnish vital insights for practical clinical application.

Piloerection (e.g., goosebumps) is an essential thermoregulatory and social signaling mechanism in non-human animals. Although humans also experience piloerection-often being perceived as an indicator of profound emotional experiences-its comparatively less effective role in thermoregulation and communication might influence our capacity to monitor its occurrence. We present three studies (total N = 617) demonstrating participants' general inability to detect their own piloerection events and their lack of awareness that piloerection occurs with a similar frequency on multiple anatomical locations. Self-reported goosebumps were more frequent than observed piloerection. However, only 31.8% of self-reports coincided with observable piloerection, a bias unrelated to piloerection intensity, anatomical location, heart-rate variability, or interoceptive awareness. We also discovered a self-report bias for the forearm, contradicting the observation that piloerection occurs with equal frequency on multiple anatomical locations. Finally, there was low correspondence between self-reports of being "emotionally moved" and observed piloerection. These counterintuitive findings not only highlight a disconnect between an obvious physiological response and our capacity for self-monitoring, but they underscore a fascinating divergence between human and non-human species. Although piloerection is vital in non-human organisms, the connection between piloerection and psychological experience in humans may be less significant than previously assumed, possibly due to its diminished evolutionary relevance.

The popularity of wearable physiological recording devices has opened up new possibilities for the assessment of personality traits in everyday life. Compared with traditional questionnaires or laboratory assessments, wearable device-based measurements can collect rich data about individual physiological activities in real-life situations without interfering with normal life, enabling a more comprehensive description of individual differences. The present study aimed to explore the assessment of individuals' Big-Five personality traits by physiological signals in daily life situations. A commercial bracelet was used to track the heart rate (HR) data from eighty college students (all male) enrolled in a special training program with a strictly-controlled daily schedule for ten consecutive working days. Their HR activities were divided into five daily situations (morning exercise, morning classes, afternoon classes, free time in the evening, and self-study situations) according to their daily schedule. Regression analyses with HR-based features in these five situations averaged across the ten days revealed significant cross-validated quantitative prediction correlations of 0.32 and 0.26 for the dimensions of Openness and Extraversion, with the prediction correlation trending significance for Conscientiousness and Neuroticism. Moreover, the multi-situation HR-based results were in general superior to those based on single-situation HR-based features, as well as those based on the multi-situation self-reported emotion ratings. Togetherour findings demonstrate the link between personality and daily HR measures using state-of-the-art commercial devices and could shed light on the development of Big-Five personality assessment based on daily multi-situation physiological measures.

Microglia are macrophages that reside in the central nervous system (CNS) and belong to the innate immune system. Moreover, they are crucially involved in CNS development, maturation, and aging; further, they are closely associated with neurons. In normal conditions, microglia remain in a static state. Upon trauma or lesion occurrence, microglia can be activated and subsequently polarized into the pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory phenotype. The phenotypic transition is regulated by numerous modulators. This review focus on the literature regarding the modulators and signaling pathways involved in regulating the microglial phenotypic transition, which are rarely mentioned in other reviews. Hence, this review provides molecular insights into the microglial phenotypic transition, which could be a potential therapeutic target for neuroinflammation.

To better understand the psychological and physiological basis of human emotion, increasing interest has been drawn towards ambulatory recordings of emotion-related data beyond the laboratories. By employing smartphones-based ambulatory assessment and wrist-worn physiological recording devices, the Daily Ambulatory Psychological and Physiological recording for Emotion Research (DAPPER) dataset provides momentary self-reports and physiological data of people's emotional experiences in their daily life. The dataset consists of ambulatory psychological recordings from 142 participants and physiological recordings from 88 of them over five days. Both the experience sampling method (ESM) and the day reconstruction method (DRM) were employed to have a comprehensive description of the participants' daily emotional experiences. Heart rate, galvanic skin response, and three-axis acceleration were recorded during the day time. By including multiple types of physiological and self-report data at a scale of five days with 100+ participants, the present dataset is expected to promote emotion researches in real-life, daily settings.
