The method of individual prognosis of spontaneous abortion in clinically indefinite conditions is considered. The diagnostic algorithm is based on the use of the optimal dendrite method to identify classes at the first stage and to classify a female as a healthy subject or a patient further (at the second stage). The algorithm is realized as a programme module operating in the FORTRAN language on a dialogue for a personal computer.

Results of epidemiological evaluation of different risk factors underlying spontaneous abortion are discussed. Based on the mathematical analysis of examination findings in women in the course of pregnancy and at its termination (at term and preterm), major risk factors and abnormality patterns were established in all followed-up pregnancies as well as in the nonparous group. The informative value and the degree of risk of factors and conditions affecting preterm pregnancy termination are delineated.

The results of a population survey of the causes of spontaneous abortion are reported. A total of 328 female residents of the Cheremushki district in Moscow were investigated, using a retrospective epidemiologic method and 2 kinds of specifically-elaborated questionnaires. Mathematical analysis of the data has identified meaningful risk factors of spontaneous abortion.
