RESUMO

Currently, in accordance with the regulations of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the main indicator for assessing nutritional status is the body mass index, which does not take into account the component composition of the body. At the same time, it is necessary to assess in more detail the composition of the body of military personnel, that is, the ratio of its muscle and fat components. The purpose of the study is the scientific and methodological substantiation of the need to introduce an additional criterion for assessing the nutritional status of military personnel, that characterize body composition - the body fat percentage. Material and methods. The study involved 1.373 male military personnel aged 18 to 53 who underwent a medical examination. The following methods were used: anthropometry, bioimpedancemetry, caliperometry. Results. Various methods for determining the fat component of the body have been studied. The analysis of the data obtained showed that all methods for determining the body fat percentage have highly significant correlations among themselves and with bioimpedancemetry data. All coefficients had high reliability p<0.001 at r>0.7. When the values of the body mass index deviate from the normative ones, it is proposed to use the indicator of the body fat percentage to clarify the assessment of the nutritional status of male military personnel. Based on the data obtained, modern algorithms for assessing the nutritional status of military personnel have been developed for use in the practice of military health care at various levels of medical support for military personnel. Conclusion. As a result of a prospective study, the need to introduce an additional criterion for assessing the nutritional status of male military personnel was substantiated and proved, and calculation methods for assessing the fat component of the body, comparable with bioimpedancemetry data, were determined. Algorithms for determining the nutritional status of servicemen for different levels of medical support have been developed. In conditions where special devices for determining the fat component of the body are not included in the supply standards of the medical service, it is recommended to calculate the body fat percentage by girth methods using a centimeter tape.

RESUMO

In everyday practice, for a personalized approach to assessing nutritional status it is necessary to determine the ideal body weight of a person, but bio-impedance analysis of body composition widespread in stationary conditions in an outpatient setting is not always available. Therefore, it is necessary to use other methods for determining the ideal body weight, the results of which would be most comparable with bio-impedance analysis results. The aim of the work is a comparative analysis of various calculation methods for determining the ideal body weight and the results of bio-impedance testing. Material and methods. 830 men aged 18 to 44 years were examined. The ideal body weight was calculated by 16 common methods. The obtained results were compared with bio-impedance analysis of body composition. Results and discussion. To compare the accuracy of the coincidence of the results obtained by means of the used methods, the method of standard error of the model was used, as well as the correlation analysis was carried out, and regression models were constructed. A comparative analysis revealed the most informative methods for determining the ideal body weight, which are recommended for use in practice. Conclusion. As a result of comparing several methods for determining the ideal body weight, we can conclude that the methods closest to the determination of ideal body weight obtained by bio-impedancemetry are the methods of Borgardt, Monnerot-Dumayn and the Insurance Company "Metropolitan Life".

RESUMO

Free radical oxidation processes are a cause of ageing, cancer, cataract, etc. Antioxidants are agents that are able to suppress these processes. They create a system that determines the antioxidant capacity (AOC) of living tissue. The effect of various drugs on this system is of importance. A PDK-1 diagnostic coulonometer, an AOC-measuring device, has been developed by the Polyclinic Research Department, KRC, Russian Academy of Sciences. Medical abortion with mifepriston and misoprostol does not change the blood level of AOC significantly. The maximum baseline value of AOC is observed in repeat pregnancy nulliparas.

RESUMO

The parameters of the cultivation process and the content of protein and polysaccharide in M.morganii cells grown under the conditions of submerged cultivation in 2 nutrient media having different composition were studied. The study revealed that the highest values of specific growth rate and the maximum yield of biomass were observed during cultivation under the conditions of medium values of oxygen concentration in the medium (pO2 = 20-30%). The content of protein in bacterial cells was practically independent on the growth phase of the culture, with the exception of cultivation processes in carbohydrate-free media with the use of "old" seed material (48-hours agar culture) when protein content in the cells was higher in the exponential phase. The content of polysaccharide in bacterial cells, its maximum level observed at the exponential phase, considerably dropped at the growth deceleration and stationary phases.

RESUMO

Dried bacterial growth stimulators in the form of water extracts of wild marjoram were developed; they produced a stimulating effect on Escherichia coli and Streptococcus pyogenes Dick 1 and had no influence on the growth of Corynebacterium xerosis 1911. The study aimed at finding out the active principle of the stimulator prepared from marjoram extract revealed that under experimental conditions marjoram extract could be divided into 3 fractions of these: fraction 1 contained terpenic hydrocarbons, fraction 2 contained vitamins and vitamin-like substances, fraction 3 contained phenols, flavonoids, phenolcarbonic and fatty acids. Fraction 3 at a concentration of 0.0001% produced the best effect. The stimulating effect of extracts obtained from lime and aspen leaves, haw berries was demonstrated.

RESUMO

The study of the qualitative and quantitative composition of peptides and free amino acids in commercial casein hydrolysates, produced in Russia, has provided grounds for the choice of the nutrient base in the medium for the cultivation of E. coli recombinant strains. In the newly developed medium specific endoglucanase activity is 1.5- to 1.7-fold greater than in Luria-Bertani broth ("Difco" Laboratories, USA).

RESUMO

A culture medium for the cultivation of hemophilic bacteria, containing acidic casein hydrolysate, aminopeptide and fodder yeast extract, has been proposed. The growth-stimulating properties of this medium have been studied on 5 strains producing restrictases differing in their specificity. In growing these producer strains in a model ANKUM-2 fermenter with the supply of carbohydrate substrates (glucose, sucrose, glycerin) the yield of biomass, considered to be high for hemophilic bacteria (10-14 g of humid substance from 1 liter of the medium), has been achieved. As shown on H. influenzae Rc B-2297 used as an example, an increase in the yield of microbial biomass leads to a decrease in restrictase specific activity.

RESUMO

Ten adolescents aged 10-18 years with physical and/or sexual development retardation associated with nephropathy were examined. Eight patients were treated with immunodepressants before and/or at the moment of examination. The difference between the age indicated in the patient's passport and bone age ranged within 0 to 3 years. On spermogram examination 3 of 4 patients manifested pathospermia. The serum prolactin level and the level of gonadotropins appeared normal but the testosterone content and plasma zinc level were lowered. As a result of the treatment with parlodel and/or zinc acetate for 1.5 to 23 months, 9 of 10 patients demonstrated the rise of the height and body weight and developed secondary sexual signs. In 3 of 4 patients examined for that parameter, the spermograms improved. In the whole group, the concentration of blood prolactin decreased, that of testosterone and zinc rose, whereas the content of gonadotropins remained unchanged.

RESUMO

The parameters of the growth of three microbial strains cultivated in growth media prepared with the use of different nutrient bases, both locally produced and imported, have been studied. The characteristics of the processes of bacterial cultivation have been found to correlate with the peptide composition of hydrolysates used in the experiment. Nutrient bases containing a wide spectrum of peptides with different molecular weight have ensured the most favorable conditions for the growth of microorganisms belonging to the taxonomic groups under study.

RESUMO

The enzymatic hydrolysates under study, obtained from different raw materials, have been shown to contain a great variety of peptides with different molecular weight. The highest content of fractions with a molecular weight of 2000 D has been observed in enzymatic meat and casein hydrolysates manufactures in the GDR. Low-molecular fractions (100-200 D) prevail in amino peptide. A great variety of peptides with different molecular weight is observed in Hottinger's meat hydrolysate and in blood clot hydrolysate obtained from the blood of laboratory animals. All peptide fractions have been shown to contain a wide spectrum of free amino acids. These data on the peptide and amino acid composition of different protein bases facilitate their rational use of microbiological culture media.

RESUMO

The authors offer a method for cultivating trepanobiopsies in the agar drop-liquid medium system to measure the intramedullary colony-stimulating activity (CSA) in patients with different pathological conditions of the blood system. In patients with chronic idiopathic neutropenia and aplastic anemia, the CSA of the whole bone marrow tissue ranges within normal. In patients with recurrent acute myelo- and leukoblastic leukemias, the CSA of trepanobiopsies is lowered. During a remission, in these patients and in those with hemopoietic dysplasia the CSA of the whole bone marrow tissue ranges within normal. There is a positive correlation between the CSA of trepanobiopsies and the number of mature granulocytes in the peripheral blood of patients with acute myeloleukemia and lymphoblastic leukemias and a negative correlation between the CSA and the number of blast cells in the blood and bone marrow of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It has been thus shown that intramedullary level of the CSA plays a great part in regulation of granulomonocytopoiesis in health and different pathological conditions. It is assumed that stromal elements of the bone marrow may release a factor that is triggered by the colony-stimulating factor or by this factor-synthesizing cells.
