RESUMO

Treatment for early-stage breast cancer is complex, requiring multidisciplinary care with a multitude of treatment options available for each patient. Coupled with the rising importance of shared decision-making, patient-physician conversations are progressively more complicated. These conversations require frank disclosure of risks and benefits of the different treatment modalities in a way that is individualized for each patient and simple to understand. In most patients, breast conserving therapy with radiation should be presented as the gold-standard local treatment given similar long-term and improved quality of life outcomes. De-escalation is currently at the forefront of research in loco-regional treatments, and further investigations are required to best determine the optimal patient populations for reduced sentinel lymph node sampling, omission of sentinel lymph node biopsy altogether and omission of radiation treatment. For future trials, better endpoints need to be established considering patient-centered outcomes as well as recurrence.

PURPOSE: BMI affects breast cancer risk and prognosis. In contrast to cytotoxic chemotherapy, CDK4/6 inhibitors are given at a fixed dose, irrespective of BMI or weight. This preplanned analysis of the global randomized PALLAS trial investigates the impact of BMI on the side-effect profile, treatment adherence, and efficacy of palbociclib. METHODS: Patients were categorized at baseline according to WHO BMI categories. Neutropenia rates were assessed with univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Time to early discontinuation of palbociclib was analyzed with Fine and Gray competing risk models. Unstratified Cox models were used to investigate the association between BMI category and time to invasive disease-free survival (iDFS). 95% CIs were derived. RESULTS: Of 5,698 patients included in this analysis, 68 (1.2%) were underweight, 2,082 (36.5%) normal weight, 1,818 (31.9%) overweight, and 1,730 (30.4%) obese at baseline. In the palbociclib arm, higher BMI was associated with a significant decrease in neutropenia (unadjusted odds ratio for 1-unit change, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.91 to 0.94; adjusted for age, race ethnicity, region, chemotherapy use, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group at baseline, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.92 to 0.95). This translated into a significant decrease in treatment discontinuation rate with higher BMI (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] for 10-unit change, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.67 to 0.83). There was no significant improvement in iDFS with the addition of palbociclib to ET in any weight category (normal weight HR, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.63 to 1.12; overweight HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.82 to 1.49; and obese HR, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.69 to 1.30) in this analysis early in follow-up (31 months). CONCLUSION: This preplanned analysis of the PALLAS trial demonstrates a significant impact of BMI on side effects, dose reductions, early treatment discontinuation, and relative dose intensity. Additional long-term follow-up will further evaluate whether BMI ultimately affects outcome.

The heterogeneous group of B3 lesions in the breast harbors lesions with different malignant potential and progression risk. As several studies about B3 lesions have been published since the last Consensus in 2018, the 3rd International Consensus Conference discussed the six most relevant B3 lesions (atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH), flat epithelial atypia (FEA), classical lobular neoplasia (LN), radial scar (RS), papillary lesions (PL) without atypia, and phyllodes tumors (PT)) and made recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Following a presentation of current data of each B3 lesion, the international and interdisciplinary panel of 33 specialists and key opinion leaders voted on the recommendations for further management after core-needle biopsy (CNB) and vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB). In case of B3 lesion diagnosis on CNB, OE was recommended in ADH and PT, whereas in the other B3 lesions, vacuum-assisted excision was considered an equivalent alternative to OE. In ADH, most panelists (76%) recommended an open excision (OE) after diagnosis on VAB, whereas observation after a complete VAB-removal on imaging was accepted by 34%. In LN, the majority of the panel (90%) preferred observation following complete VAB-removal. Results were similar in RS (82%), PL (100%), and FEA (100%). In benign PT, a slim majority (55%) also recommended an observation after a complete VAB-removal. VAB with subsequent active surveillance can replace an open surgical intervention for most B3 lesions (RS, FEA, PL, PT, and LN). Compared to previous recommendations, there is an increasing trend to a de-escalating strategy in classical LN. Due to the higher risk of upgrade into malignancy, OE remains the preferred approach after the diagnosis of ADH.

BACKGROUND: Currently, treatment recommendations for papillary thyroid carcinoma are not based on the genetic background causing tumourigenesis. The aim of the present study was to correlate the mutational profile of papillary thyroid carcinoma with clinical parameters of tumour aggressiveness, to establish recommendations for risk-stratified surgical treatment. METHOD: Papillary thyroid carcinoma tumour tissue of patients undergoing thyroid surgery at the University Medical Centre Mainz underwent analysis of BRAF, TERT promoter and RAS mutational status as well as potential RET and NTRK rearrangements. Mutation status was correlated with clinical course of disease. RESULTS: One hundred and seventy-one patients operated for papillary thyroid carcinoma were included. The median age was 48 years (range 8-85) and 69 per cent (118/171) of patients were females. One hundred and nine papillary thyroid carcinomas were BRAF-V600E mutant, 16 TERT promotor mutant and 12 RAS mutant; 12 papillary thyroid carcinomas harboured RET rearrangements and two papillary thyroid carcinomas showed NTRK rearrangements. TERT promoter mutant papillary thyroid carcinomas had a higher risk of distant metastasis (OR 51.3, 7.0 to 1048.2, P < 0.001) and radioiodine-refractory disease (OR 37.8, 9.9 to 169.5, P < 0.001). Concomitant BRAF and TERT promoter mutations increased the risk of radioiodine-refractory disease in papillary thyroid carcinoma (OR 21.7, 5.6 to 88.9, P < 0.001). RET rearrangements were associated with a higher count of tumour-affected lymph nodes (OR 7950.9, 233.7 to 270495.7, P < 0.001) but did not influence distant metastasis or radioiodine-refractory disease. CONCLUSIONS: Papillary thyroid carcinoma with concomitant BRAF-V600E and TERT promoter mutations demonstrated an aggressive course of disease, suggesting the need for a more extensive surgical strategy. RET rearrangement-positive papillary thyroid carcinoma did not affect the clinical outcome, potentially obviating the need for prophylactic lymphadenectomy.

BACKGROUND: The widespread adoption of adjuvant bisphosphonate therapy for postmenopausal early breast cancer (EBC) patients was based on results of the Early Breast Cancer Trialist Group (EBCTCG) meta-analysis. Despite multiple regimens evaluated, there was no signal of varying efficacy with type, dose/dose intensity of bisphosphonate administration. We evaluated the effect of early treatment cessation using long-term outcome data from the ABCSG-12 trial. PATIENTS AND METHODS: ABCSG-12 randomized 1803 hormone-receptor positive EBC patients on ovarian suppression between 1999 and 2006 to receive 4 mg zoledronic acid 6-monthly or not (and tamoxifen or anastrozole, 2:2 factorial design). In the current study, we evaluated whether the number of zoledronate infusions had an impact on breast cancer-specific outcomes. We hypothesized that amongst patients who received at least one zoledronate infusion, the number of infusions had no effect on outcomes. Time-to-event endpoints were analysed with Cox models and Kaplan Meier curves starting from a 3-year landmark. BMD analysis was restricted to patients who participated in the BMD sub-study. RESULTS: 725 patients who received at least one zoledronate infusion were included in the time-to-event analysis. There was no statistically significant difference in disease-free or overall survival in the patients who received ≤6 zoledronate infusions (n = 170) compared to those who received ≥7 zoledronate infusions (n = 555). CONCLUSIONS: Comparable to efforts to de-escalate treatment duration in metastatic bone disease, there was no evidence to indicate that a reduced number of zoledronate infusions is associated with reduced adjuvant efficacy. Further studies to define optimal regimens of adjuvant bone-targeted therapies are required.

Introduction: Mediastinal tumors, particularly non-neuroendocrine thymic epithelial tumors (TET) are relatively uncommon, posing challenges for extensive epidemiological studies. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of these tumors in the United States (US) and Germany (GER) from 1999 to 2019. Methods: Patients aged 0-19 (n=478) and ≥20 years (n=17,459) diagnosed with malignant tumors of the anterior mediastinum were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry (SEER) and the Zentrum für Krebsregisterdaten (ZfKD) databases. Results: Among patients aged ≥20 years, TETs accounted for the most prevalent anterior mediastinal tumors (US/GER: 63%/64%), followed by lymphomas (14%/8%). For patients <20 years, predominant tumors included germ cell tumors (42%/14%), lymphomas (38%/53%), and TETs (10%/27%). The overall annual incidence of thymoma was 2.2/2.64 (US/GER) per million inhabitants and for thymic carcinomas 0.48/0.42. The male-to-female ratio was 1:1.09/1.03, and the mean age 59.48 ± 14.89/61.33 ± 13.94. Individuals with thymomas, but not thymic carcinomas, exhibited a 21%/29% significantly heightened risk of developing secondary malignancies compared to controls with non-thymic primary tumors. Discussion: This study provides a comparative analysis of anterior mediastinal tumors, particularly TETs, in the US and GER over the past two decades. Furthermore, it highlights a significantly elevated incidence of secondary malignancies in thymoma patients.

The use of autopsies in medicine has been declining. The COVID-19 pandemic has documented and rejuvenated the importance of autopsies as a tool of modern medicine. In this review, we discuss the various autopsy techniques, the applicability of modern analytical methods to understand the pathophysiology of COVID-19, the major pathological organ findings, limitations or current studies, and open questions. This article summarizes published literature and the consented experience of the nationwide network of clinical, neuro-, and forensic pathologists from 27 German autopsy centers with more than 1200 COVID-19 autopsies. The autopsy tissues revealed that SARS-CoV-2 can be found in virtually all human organs and tissues, and the majority of cells. Autopsies have revealed the organ and tissue tropism of SARS-CoV-2, and the morphological features of COVID-19. This is characterized by diffuse alveolar damage, combined with angiocentric disease, which in turn is characterized by endothelial dysfunction, vascular inflammation, (micro-) thrombosis, vasoconstriction, and intussusceptive angiogenesis. These findings explained the increased pulmonary resistance in COVID-19 and supported the recommendations for antithrombotic treatment in COVID-19. In contrast, in extra-respiratory organs, pathological changes are often nonspecific and unclear to which extent these changes are due to direct infection vs. indirect/secondary mechanisms of organ injury, or a combination thereof. Ongoing research using autopsies aims at answering questions on disease mechanisms, e.g., focusing on variants of concern, and future challenges, such as post-COVID conditions. Autopsies are an invaluable tool in medicine and national and international interdisciplinary collaborative autopsy-based research initiatives are essential.

Outcomes of Adjuvant Denosumab in Breast CancerIn this long-term report of a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial of adjuvant aromatase inhibitor in postmenopausal patients with early hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, adjuvant denosumab therapy improved disease-free survival by 3.5 percentage points, bone metastasis-free survival by 2.5 percentage points, and overall survival by 1.0 percentage point at 9 years of follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is common and associated with substantial mortality. TNM stage and histopathological grading have been the sole determinants of a patient's prognosis for decades and there are few prognostic biomarkers used in clinical routine. Management of ccRCC involves multiple disciplines such as urology, radiology, oncology, and pathology and each of these specialties generates highly complex medical data. Here, artificial intelligence (AI) could prove extremely powerful to extract meaningful information to benefit patients. OBJECTIVE: In the study, we developed and evaluated a multimodal deep learning model (MMDLM) for prognosis prediction in ccRCC. DESIGN SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Two mixed cohorts of non-metastatic and metastatic ccRCC patients were used: (1) The Cancer Genome Atlas cohort including 230 patients and (2) the Mainz cohort including 18 patients with ccRCC. For each of these patients, we trained the MMDLM on multiscale histopathological images, CT/MRI scans, and genomic data from whole exome sequencing. OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Outcome measurements included Harrell's concordance index (C-index) and also various performance parameters for predicting the 5-year survival status (5YSS). Different visualization techniques were used to make our model more transparent. RESULTS: The MMDLM showed great performance in predicting the prognosis of ccRCC patients with a mean C-index of 0.7791 and a mean accuracy of 83.43%. Training on a combination of data from different sources yielded significantly better results compared to when only one source was used. Furthermore, the MMDLM's prediction was an independent prognostic factor outperforming other clinical parameters. INTERPRETATION: Multimodal deep learning can contribute to prognosis prediction in ccRCC and potentially help to improve the clinical management of this disease. PATIENT SUMMARY: An AI-based computer program can analyze various medical data (microscopic images, CT/MRI scans, and genomic data) simultaneously and thereby predict the survival time of patients with renal cancer.

Do global health institutions keep up with globalization forces? We contend that they seriously lag behind. While medical knowledge becomes more and more refined in showing how diseases spread globally, the political order meant to address this problem is barely global. It is global in terms of the promises it makes in declarations and even legally binding instruments (institutional foreground). But many entrenched political practices of interaction do not keep these promises (institutional background). We explain this with the dominance of a traditional diplomatic 'feel of the game' in which often narrowly defined national interests, positioning battles among states, and a subordination of global health under considerations of international security and economics prevail. Based on this diagnosis, we discuss three scenarios for the further evolution of the global health order: (1) the persistence of current institutions, (2) revisions of the institutional foreground and persistence of the background, and (3) a qualitative break that makes amendments to both. While the COVID-19 crisis provides openings for the third and, even more so, the second one, the current upheavals in the liberal constellation of orders makes the first scenario the most likely one.

BACKGROUND: For postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer, the most effective duration for adjuvant therapy with an aromatase inhibitor remains unclear. METHODS: In this prospective, phase 3 trial, we randomly assigned postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer who had received 5 years of adjuvant endocrine therapy to receive the aromatase inhibitor anastrozole for an additional 2 years (2-year group, receiving a total of 7 years) or an additional 5 years (5-year group, receiving a total of 10 years). The primary end point was disease-free survival. The primary analysis included all the patients who were still participating in the trial and who had no recurrence 2 years after randomization (i.e., when treatment in the 2-year group had ended). Secondary end points were overall survival, contralateral breast cancer, second primary cancer, and clinical bone fracture. RESULTS: Among the 3484 women who were enrolled in the trial, 3208 remained in the trial without disease progression after the first 2 years of extended anastrozole treatment following randomization. Among these women, disease progression or death occurred in 335 women in each treatment group in the primary-analysis set at 8 years (hazard ratio, 0.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.85 to 1.15; P = 0.90). No between-group differences occurred in most secondary end points, and subgroup analyses did not indicate differences in any particular subgroup. The risk of clinical bone fracture was higher in the 5-year group than in the 2-year group (hazard ratio, 1.35; 95% CI, 1.00 to 1.84). CONCLUSIONS: In postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer who had received 5 years of adjuvant endocrine therapy, extending hormone therapy by 5 years provided no benefit over a 2-year extension but was associated with a greater risk of bone fracture. BACKGROUND: Pandemics lead to new challenges for healthcare systems and a subsequent shift of the scientific focus, which can partially be seen in alterations in scientific publication activity. OBJECTIVES: Follow-up on the global publication activity within the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in a comparison of national contexts with regards to local infection rates and the involvement of the discipline of pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Comparative analysis of the number of publications in the PubMed® database concerning COVID-19 with respect to publication type, date and place of publication, affiliation to an institute of pathology, and correlation with the number of SARS-CoV­2 infections over the same timeframe. RESULTS: After an initial peak with regards to the number of publications in the months of May and June 2020, a slight decrease was observed, followed by another increase starting in August/September 2020. Further, the time between data collection and publication contracted to approximately 3-4 months. Countries faced with early SARS-CoV­2 infections published promptly, even though there was no overall association between the number of publications and COVID-19 case numbers. On average, 4% of authors were affiliated to an institute of pathology, with a steady increase of this percentage within the course of the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 altered global publication activity by providing for an unprecedented number of publications combined with an acceleration of publication times irrespective of the geographical location and overall case numbers.

BACKGROUND: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a significant diagnostic procedure for detecting malignancy in patients with nodular thyroid disease. A high proportion of patients with cytological diagnosed follicular neoplasia (Bethesda IV and V) ultimately have thyroid cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of preoperatively undiagnosed central lymph node metastasis in patients with multinodular goiter (MNG). METHODS: Patients who underwent FNA and were classified as Bethesda IV/V were included. Applying a radical approach, all patients underwent (hemi)thyroidectomy and prophylactic unilateral central neck dissection. RESULTS: During our study period 2009-2013, 60 patients (19.7%) were classified as Bethesda IV and 21 (6.9%) Bethesda V. Final histopathological results revealed malignancy in 35 (43.2%) of 81 Bethesda IV/V nodules. Of the nodules classified as Bethesda IV, 20 (33.3%) showed malignancy in the final histology. Ten patients (16.7%) had papillary micro-carcinoma (mPTC, <10 mm), 4 (6.6%) PTC and 6 (10%) follicular thyroid cancer. Fifteen of 21 (71.4%) Bethesda V nodules were revealed as PTC of whom seven (33.3%) patients also had lymph-node metastases. CONCLUSIONS: While 33.3% of the patients with PTC, preoperatively classified as Bethesda V, had previously undetected positive lymph-nodes, only one patient with Bethesda IV had lymph-node metastasis.

BACKGROUND: The pain associated with pricking the fingertip for blood glucose self-testing is considered to be a major burden in diabetes treatment. This study was performed to evaluate the system accuracy of the invasive TensorTip Combo Glucometer (CoG) device component in accordance with ISO15197:2015 requirements and to explore the accuracy of the noninvasive tissue glucose prediction component. METHODS: One hundred samples were obtained from people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and healthy volunteers (43 females, 57 males; age: 53 ± 16 years), with glucose distribution as requested by the ISO standard. Three strip lots were tested twice by healthcare professionals in comparison to YSI 2300 Stat Plus reference method followed by a noninvasive tissue glucose reading (NI-CoG). Mean Absolute (Relative) Difference (MARD) was calculated and a consensus error grid (CEG) analysis was performed. RESULTS: The ISO system accuracy criteria were met with the invasive strip technology by 586/600 of the data points (97.1%) and for each strip lot separately. All invasive results (100%) were within CEG-zone A and total MARD was calculated to be 7.1%. With the noninvasive reading, 99% of raw data points were in A + B (91.1% and 7.8%), and the total MARD was calculated to be 18.1%. DISCUSSION: The invasive component of the CoG device was shown to be in full compliance with the current ISO15197 criteria. Good results were also obtained with the NI-CoG tissue glucose prediction. This noninvasive technology would potentially be suitable for frequent pain-free glucose monitoring in many people with diabetes.

BACKGROUND: In recent randomized clinical trials, an unusual reporting pattern of glycemic data and hypoglycemic events potentially related to an internet enabled blood glucose meter (MyGlucoHealth, BGM) was observed. Therefore, this clinical study was conducted to evaluate the system accuracy of the BGM in accordance with the ISO15197:2015 guidelines with additional data collection. METHODS: To investigate system accuracy, 10 of 3088 devices and 6 of 23 strip lots, used in the trials, were selected by a randomization procedure and a standard repeatability assessment. YSI 2300 STAT Plus was used as the standard reference method. The samples were distributed as per the ISO15197:2015 recommendations with 20 additional samples in the hypoglycemic range. Each sample was tested with 6 devices and 6 strip lots with double determinations. RESULTS: Overall, 121 subjects with blood glucose values 26-423 mg/dL were analyzed, resulting in 1452 data points. In all, 186/1452 readings (12.8%) did not meet the ISO acceptance criteria. Data evaluated according to the FDA guidelines showed that 336/1452 (23.1%) readings did not meet the acceptance criteria. A clear bias toward elevated values was observed for BG <100 mg/dL (MARD: 11.0%). CONCLUSIONS: The results show that the BGM, although approved according to standard regulatory guidelines, did not meet the level of analytical accuracy required for clinical treatment decisions according to ISO 15197:2015 and FDA requirements. In general, caution should be exercised before selection of BGMs for patients and in clinical trials.

We assessed whether standardized application of an absorbable polysaccharide hemostatic powder (HaemoCer™) has an effect on lymphocele rate after kidney transplantation. For this nonrandomized prospective trial, we first aimed to know our center-specific lymphocele rate diagnosed by ultrasound imaging. We retrospectively assessed all patient records of the elapsed year resulting in a center-specific rate of 20%, this was consistent with literature. The power analysis showed that 108 patients were required to detect a 50% reduction in lymphocele rate. During the prospective study period, 155 patients undergoing kidney transplantation were recruited to receive HaemoCer™ intraoperatively. In two patients, the product accidentally was not used. Six patients were excluded from analysis because of failure to complete follow-up (one early death and five early graft failures). Of the remaining 147 patients, 15 developed lymphoceles, which represents a rate of 10.2%; (95% CI: 6.3-16.2%). Compared to the expected occurrence, this was significantly lower (P = 0.003). Lymphoceles appeared to be associated with preoperative donor-specific antibody, retransplantation and immunoadsorption in HLA or ABO incompatible donors. At our institution, the frequency of lymphoceles after kidney transplantation appeared to be significantly reduced when HaemoCer™ was applied routinely. The magnitude of the effect warrants randomized evaluation.

The B16F10 murine melanoma cell line displays a low expression of MHC class I molecules favoring immune evasion and metastases in immunocompetent C57 BL/6 wild-type mice. Here, we generated metastases to the liver, an organ that is skewed towards immune tolerance, by intrasplenic injection of B16F10 cells in syngeneic C57 BL/6 compared to allogeneic Balb/c mice. Surprisingly, Balb/c mice, which usually display a pronounced M2 macrophage and Th2 T cell polarization, were ∼3 times more susceptible to metastasis than C57 BL/6 mice, despite a much higher M1 and Th1 T cell immune response. The anti-metastatic advantage of C57 BL/6 mice could be attributed to a more potent NK-cell mediated cytotoxicity against B16F10 cells. Our findings highlight the role of NK cells in innate anti-tumor immunity in the context of the liver - particularly against highly aggressive MHC I-deficient cancer cells. Moreover, the B16F10 model of melanoma liver metastasis is suited for developing novel therapies targeting innate NK cell related immunity in liver metastases and liver cancer.

OPINION STATEMENT: Bone health and breast cancer are two connected subjects, because breast cancer patients have a higher prevalence of osteopenia/osteoporosis and reduced bone health parameters than healthy woman of the same age. Therefore, the positive effect of adjuvant bisphosphonate therapy plays an important role in breast cancer treatment. Several randomized trials have studied bisphosphonates in the adjuvant setting in postmenopausal woman and demonstrated their potential to prevent treatment-induced bone loss. The prevention of fractures and the subsequent preservation of patients' quality of life are important arguments for the use of adjuvant bisphosphonates in postmenopausal breast cancer patients. In addition, trials of adjuvant bone-targeted agents showed a reduction of recurrences in and outside bone and an improved outcome in patients treated with bisphosphonates.

BACKGROUND: Frequent blood glucose readings are the most cumbersome aspect of diabetes treatment for many patients. The noninvasive TensorTip Combo Glucometer (CoG) component employs dedicated mathematical algorithms to analyze the collected signal and to predict tissue glucose at the fingertip. This study presents the performance of the CoG (the invasive and the noninvasive components) during a standardized meal experiment. METHODS: Each of the 36 participants (18 females and males each, age: 49 ± 18 years, 14 healthy subjects, 6 type 1 and 16 type 2 patients) received a device for conducting calibration at home. Thereafter, they ingested a standardized meal. Blood glucose was assessed from capillary blood samples by means of the (non)invasive device, YSI Stat 2300 plus, Contour Next at time points -30, 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes. Statistical analysis was performed by consensus error grid (CEG) and calculation of mean absolute relative difference (MARD) in comparison to YSI. RESULTS: For the noninvasive (NI) CoG technology, 100% of the data pairs were found in CEG zones A (96.6%) and B (3.4%); 100% were seen in zone A for the invasive component and Contour Next. MARD was calculated to be 4.2% for Contour Next, 9.2% for the invasive component, and 14.4% for the NI component. CONCLUSIONS: After appropriate individual calibration of the NI technology, both the NI and the invasive CoG components reliably tracked tissue and blood glucose values, respectively. This may enable patients with diabetes to monitor their glucose levels frequently, reliably, and most of all pain-free.
